5.0 out of 5 stars THE essential volume for naval buffs

Being a huge fan of "Jane's Fighting Ships" for over forty years, I had to admit that there are issues to be addressed with those volumes. The books went to press with the information currently available, which during wartime, or the period just prior, often included mistakes and disinformation. "Conway's" on the other hand, offers the actual data on the ships covered. There is a nice narrative history of each class of ship, Each class is represented by at least one photo or line drawing.

It is strongly recommended that you purchase the prior book to your period of interest, as well as the book covering your period, as ships launched earlier are not "repeated"if they saw service in later conflicts.. As an example, the French pre-dreadnaughts serving in World War One are in the "1860-1905" volume, as that was the time of commission.

Used alongside the three-views in "Jane's", these books are a great aid to model-makers and wargamers.

This, of course, is a wonderful book and well worth the 115 dollars. Even though I had to save for quite some time, it's great... Conway and Jane combined get you a well rounded reference series.

Conways 1906-1922 volume does an excellent, comprehensive, yet well detailed look at the most intense period of warship development and construction ever seen. All classes of warships, major and minor,of all countries are well addressed, with an excellent text as well as photos and sketches. It will serve a prominent place in my early warship library, along with their 1860-1905 volume.I was pleased at the high quality paper used, not often found today.Well worth the price to any enthusiast, casual or devoted!
