Butler doesn’t give the best performance. Farrell does. And he will win. If not him, Fraser will.

I got the chance to see the full season, and I also played through the first and second game.
This is a good adaptation. Just to give a brief review – it expands on certain parts from the first game and recontextualizes the personalities of characters so no one is in the dark about the direction it takes between the two leads played by Pascal and…

If Butler wins it’ll be yet another unoriginal biopic win in the leading acting categories. They have too many of those. Original character work from the many other actors is way better.

Looking at this year’s contenders, I think we will have a repeat of the last two years where the nominees of the SAG lead actor category determined the Oscar lead actor category, so if an outside contender, say Jackman or Mescal upset Cruise at SAG, that’s their outside-chance nomination confirmed.
Look, Cruise is solid in Top Gun but it isn’t a…

I’m not so fond of PTA as a person or even DiCaprio, but to call either of them overrated is quite the exaggeration, particularly PTA. He’s perfectly rated, and he’s an all-time great. This is coming from someone who, as I said, finds PTA problematic.
The guy is potentially the most talented auteur in America at the moment, and he’s also a terri…

Pretty sure Banshees and Farrell will take a lot of main show awards this season… just seems like that type of year for McDonagh and Farrell. And they richly deserve it.
Kind of disappointed Aftersun and its lead, another Irish actor and a relative newcomer to film in Paul Mescal was not put into consideration in any of the main categories but o…

What’s the probability of PTA sneaking in for Best Director to everyone here? I know that PTA has a very strong reputation amongst the Academy, but he, and his films as well, do have a reputation for being rather auteur friendly, and that demographic isn’t very populated in the modern Academy. But the appeal of a film like Licorice Pizza in terms…

For the former part of the 21st century, Actress has been stronger. That’s started to reverse since the 2010s. Many uninspired and bland picks in Actress this past 12 years, even in terms of winners.
Best Actor has been where its at in terms of performance for at least the past 10 years now.

I’m sorry Kenneth Branagh’s direction on Belfast is absolutely… nothing special. He did not deserve to get nominated (in my opinion), and there are several I’d take in that category who didn’t get nommed over him.

Again, I didn’t say anything racist. Andra Day will not read that, nor would she give a damn if she did.

CitizenBlake replied to the topic Better Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis or Anthony Hopkins??? in the forum Movies 3 years, 5 months ago
Day-Lewis has a wider voice, accent and general character range, although Hopkins is far more naturalistic.
As someone above said, for most of Day-Lewis’ post 2000s work, you can feel the performer-y element in his work even though he is extremely method as an actor and wants to live and breathe his characters. Hopkins has a more classical feel…

You need help from someone close to you to see that not everyone you encounter is a racist. Especially when they don’t regard a Black actress’s work as superior to a White one.
And this is coming from someone who likes both Andra and Viola. The latter deserves a win, sure. But what I’m saying is that these two don’t deserve it more than Mulligan.

It’s a figure of speech. As in, her work isn’t as good as Mulligan’s and it would be bad if Day won.

If Hopkins wins, casual film fans and people who really aren’t that well acquainted with films in general (or who haven’t seen “The Father”) will be coming with pitchforks to the Dolby Theatre and/or Hopkins’ Malibu estate. Fuck that noise. Hopkins flat out deserves this wins. It would be up there with Joaquin Phoenix in “The Master” not winning…

It will be a crime if Andra Day wins lol
I think there is an equally compelling case for both Davis and Mulligan winning, but Mulligan (in my opinion of course) gives the better performance so that’s where I’m going with my prediction. Simple but justified right?
