The Tomboy and The Captain is an enemy to lovers college story where our heroine is a volleyball player and her counterpart plays hockey.
Laney Price can't stand Cutter McCreary because he is insufferable and he is considerate the best gift to the womankind. When they are forced to share a bedroom and a bet is put in place she absolutely has to resist to his charm and well manners.
I've really enjoyed to follow Laney and Cutter's journey. I adored to know them better as the story progresses.
Laney growth is evident, at the beginning her prejudices about Cutter make her spiteful, but little by little she sees and appreciates his true self becoming nice and friendly. Cutter is a pretty cute and kind guy since the start, I loved how he helps Laney respecting her processing time.
They share a burning physical attraction, their banters are entertaining, but the slow development of their feelings for each other is what kept me glued to the book.
Ginger Scott delivered an apparently easygoing story, but the multi layered characters make it appealing and intriguing.
I recommend to give this new adult novel a go as soon as possible.

I am so over the moon for this book! Gah, everything about this book was *chef's kiss* and put the biggest smile on my face.
Ginger Scott is one of my favorite sports romance authors. Every single sports romance that I read from her is better than the last. I love her writing voice. It is so relatable and her writing style is one that I feel such a kinship with. The plot of this book is one that you just can't get enough of. You want to keep turning the pages because it is so compelling. This was a very character-driven story and it was executed brilliantly.
These characters were so magnetic and full of personality. I adored them to pieces. They were distinct and well-rounded with excellent character development. I really connected with both main characters and was rooting for them the entire time. The side characters were also very intriguing and added a lot of depth to the story. I loved the different family dynamics represented in the story.
This book has a fantastic execution of the forced proximity and one-bed tropes with some enemies-to-lovers thrown in. Underneath all the bravado and angst, Cutter and Laney were pretty perfect for each other. They had so many similarities and it really showed once they were forced to spend time together. I love how Laney softened to Cutter as time went by. She was pretty stubborn but our girl came around in the end. The two of them had scorching chemistry that burned up the page. And once they took things to the next level? Dynamite! In the end, I really loved how Cutter showed Laney that he was truly there for her and supported her. It was so beautiful.
Overall, this was a brilliant start to The Final Score series. These characters will win you over instantly and the plot will keep you wanting more. I am so excited for the remaining books in this series. This author is one that I will keep coming back for again and again because she just gets me. I love her storytelling and her characters and I can't recommend this book enough!

I rarely find sports romance where both the hero and heroine are in sports. The Tomboy and The Captain by Ginger Scott was a refreshing take. Laney and Cutter's slow burn, forced proximity, enemies to lovers story was full of swoon, heartache and chemistry! Cutter is an unexpectedly charming hockey hero and I love when he fell first. Laney is a bada&& and she had her walls high but Cutter brought them down.
Tiff University's volleyball star Laney Price got injured and now trying her best to get back to team. After breaking up with her casual boyfriend, she has to shift to the spare room at her best friend Ivy's house. But there is a miscommunication and her enemy aka the university hockey team's captain Cutter McCreary has moved in the same room. They wager a bet. Whoever falls for the other one..has to leave the room. But as Laney gets to know Cutter, it appears she has him all wrong before. Cutter isn't playing fair at all.
Sports play a main character here, not a side kick. Both Laney and Cutter are top of their games and the struggle of college athletes is an important bonding point. They have other issues too. Cutter's mother is sick but he has a very loving and supportive family. I love a mama's boy specially when the mama has taught her son well and he knows how to treat the girls right. Laney's issue is more complex. Her injury is making her anxious and frustrated. She is very competitive and ambitious and she has to fight against her mother's hope that she will choose something traditional and also her absent father who used to be a star player too. She channels part of her rage and disappointment to Cutter. Male athletes and teams obviously get more attention and that made her angry. But soon she realised Cutter isn't the enemy. He is actually very nice. Attentive. Funny. Sexy as hell. Warm. He insisted to be with her at some real dark times. Their chemistry was shimmering and sizzling and no matter how they tried, it was irresistible. Laney tried to keep her under lock and key but Cutter knows how to unlock it. It was heartwarming journey with so many sweet and aching moments. It was touch and go for some time because Laney was a mess with everything going on in and off field and she pushed Cutter back but she realised her mistake soon. It was slow build up of their emotional connection and I enjoyed the process so much. Reverse grumpy sunshine is such an underrated trope. A strong and vulnerable heroine who doesn't handle emotions well. A golden retriever hero who can be the right kind of spicy when needed. All the tension and swoon and heartache.

This talented storyteller is still fairly new to me. The first romance of hers I read was a direct hit to the heart. This one is lighter and ridiculously entertaining. But if you love your YA romance with depth of heart, not that worry. This one brings all the authentic emotion without any manufactured angst.
Laney Price has been focused on playing volleyball her entire life. After sitting out a lot of the last season due to an injury, her senior year is her time to shine and get set up for a professional career playing volleyball. She has her work cut out for her, convincing her coach that she’s back to 100%, so she doesn’t need any distractions.
Which brings us to Cutter McCreary. Hockey team captain, the senior who makes all the girls swoon, and Laney's new roommate. As in, they now share a room. And a bed. Yes, she was there first, but he’s paid his first month's rent, too, and both are too stubborn to give in and leave. So Cutter proposes a bet: whoever falls in love with the other first is the one who has to leave.
These two are not even remotely friends at the beginning of this arrangement, and watching them navigate being in each other's space is highly captivating. This gifted wordsmith did such a great job of building an emotional connection between Laney and Cutter, revealing layer after layer, and I fell for them as they were falling for each other. This is laugh-out-loud funny, steamy, and poignantly sweet, and I can’t wait to read the next romance in this series!

Cutter McCreary has been the bane of Laney Price's college life since freshman year when he drunkenly hit on her and she turned him down. Both are now seniors with personal burdens and big ambitions for the future. When a mix-up has them not only sharing a room, a bed and a bet, they finally give in to the ever-present spark that's always been between them, and begin to get to know one another on a deeper level.
"I was stuck on her the minute she shot me down. Her tough interior only made me want her more."
This was such a fun, amusing and sexy story. I loved the tension and chemistry between Laney and Cutter. The things going on in their respective personal lives added a deeper facet to their story and made these characters real and relatable. Laney was a tough cookie, driven, and walked around with a hard shell to protect her vulnerable core. Cutter was totally gorgeous. He was confident, caring and a rock. I loved the way he coaxed Laney along and understood her completely. And, I absolutely adored his declaration of love! Swooooooon!! It was a wonderful story and I'm looking to the next one in this new series.

I'm 100% in my sports romance era and loved this story! As a former volleyball player, reading a story with a volleyball-playing FMC was fun. I read every hockey romance possible, so I love the mixing of these two sports. This story is well-written, and I appreciate the author's attention to detail. I got choked up while reading a few of the volleyball scenes because I miss playing so much. Ginger Scott did a great job making me feel the characters' love for their sports.
Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and I loved how it unfolded in this love story. Laney has held a grudge against Cutter and would rather keep her distance from him. As luck would have it, they end up living together. Their living situation proves to be more than they imagined. Both Laney and Cutter have past trauma and end up being a part of each other's support system. Cutter and Laney were so cute together, and the banter between them was fun. I loved the development of their relationship and their individual growth. They had amazing chemistry, and I love how Cutter showed Laney he was there for her no matter what. The spice was good too!
The Tomboy and The Captain is a great read. This is my first book by Ginger Scott, and I was not disappointed. I'm glad this is the first book in the Final Score series, and I can't wait to read books two and three, which will be released later this year.

i love hockey romances so i went into this book expecting to absolutely love it, i mean i really hyped it up in my head. the writing style wasn’t my favorite, i found it really hard to get through and i didn’t connect to the characters. Beside that i do think many people would really like this book it just wasn’t for me.

This college romance is low angst and super low drama. Laney and Cutter are both dedicated athletes who plan on going Pro after their Senior Year. I love that the FMC is an athlete, too. They understand each other’s competitive spirit and their passionate drive. They both have family issues that are causing them pain, in very different ways, though.
The enemies combativeness and “the bet” aspects add good banter and hot chemistry. The enemies aspect doesn’t go on for very long, I’m not sure if I was a bit disappointed as it brought great tension to the relationship, or if I was glad they were mature and got past it quickly. I think I feel a bit of both really.
This is a flirty, fun and steamy romance with plenty of sport’s as a major factor, this author knows sports… all of them and I love it.
I think it might be one of the authors steamier books that I’ve read.
The characters are likable, good people, it’s not a case of b*lly romance at all. I unfortunately didn’t connect strongly with them until almost the end, though.
The lack of drama and angst made it a light and smooth read. I would have liked a bit more interactions with the secondary characters and more dialogue between Laney and Cutter.
The writing is clear, beautiful and relatable. This author has a unique voice, her style is straightforward, mature and smart.
This author is a favorite of mine, she does fantastic NA romance that is mature and usually very sports related as this story is.
This story didn’t tug at my heart as much or give me strong butterflies like her books usually do.
I will absolutely read this author again, she’s written some of my very favorite books. This one that just wasn’t a favorite for me personally. I think I needed just a bit more conversations and secondary character development.
Also, Cutter’s family is #familygoals I absolutely adore them and I would have loved a bit more of them. Their scenes are so funny and sweet. Still a great read for me.

This is a flirty, fun and steamy romance with plenty of sport’s as a major factor, this author knows sports… all of them and I love it.
I think it might be one of the authors steamier books that I’ve read.
The characters are likable, good people, it’s not a case of b*lly romance at all. I unfortunately didn’t connect strongly with them until almost the end, though.
The lack of drama and angst made it a light and smooth read. I would have liked a bit more interactions with the secondary characters and more dialogue between Laney and Cutter.
The writing is clear, beautiful and relatable. This author has a unique voice, her style is straightforward, mature and smart.
This author is a favorite of mine, she does fantastic NA romance that is mature and usually very sports related as this story is.
This story didn’t tug at my heart as much or give me strong butterflies like her books usually do.
I will absolutely read this author again, she’s written some of my very favorite books. This one that just wasn’t a favorite for me personally. I think I needed just a bit more conversations and secondary character development.
Also, Cutter’s family is #familygoals I absolutely adore them and I would have loved a bit more of them. Their scenes are so funny and sweet. Still a great read for me.

Laney and Cutter, who loved to hate each other, had to live in the same place. From that moment, all bets were off. The forced proximity led the two of them to learn more about each other but also about themselves, from enemies to so much more. But not without some fights in between.
The author delivered an easygoing story, nevertheless engaging and compelling at the same time. I really enjoyed reading Laney and Cutter’s story. Sports play a huge part in the story, showing the sacrifices and work they had to make in order to get at this competition level intricating with their personal lives.
Laney’s sass definitely matched Cutter’s boldness. Both could play a game and challenge the other. They had marvelous chemistry, a back and forth banter with tons of swoony moments.
They also had quite a bunch of loyal friends and I can’t wait to read their stories.

I thought I was so ahead of the game with this book, and then I realized that my review was due 4 days ago!! I apparently wrote the date down wrong, but all that means is that you can already download this book! And let me tell you, you're going to want to. It's so good.
I loved Laney and Cutter separately, but then put them together? OMG. The boy next door comes out of Cutter, but at the same time, he pushes Laney to open up. But he learns her and lets her do it at her own pace, rather than forcing her into anything. I loved it. And he's such a mama's boy, but in a good way.
And the bet. You know they're both desperate (especially Laney) if she agrees to share a room with her mortal enemy. I loved the whole bet part of this story. I mean, these are two college athletes who are amazing at what they do, so you know they are going to be competitive.
The smut is good too. But this book has so much more to it than the smut. And the volleyball! Ugh, this made me miss playing volleyball so much. Plus I loved that the woman was an athlete too, and maybe even a better athlete than the guy. Honestly, I could just keep raving about this book, so please go download it now!

OMG!!!!! Este libro dejó mi cara con una sonrisa tan grande que sentí que se me partiría por la mitad, amé las capas que tenían estos personajes, muchas veces abandono un libro con escenas spicy porque se centra demasiado en eso sin conocer la verdadera historia de sus personajes y siento que el libro no llegó completo a mis manos, pero todos los lados de estos personajes, sus historias, lo que los hizo ser como eran, cómo dirigían y cuestionaban su vida, me encantó y me llenó por completo, nunca pensé que un libro que comenzara con una apuesta me llevaría tan profundamente a su mundo y mentes, sólo tengo cosas buenas que decir de esta autora que me sorprendió muchísimo, su pluma es fascinante y adictiva, no quería soltar este libro, Ginger Scoot, me has convertido en una fanática de tu escritura.

Good book, quick read. Very low angst. I like that both the main characters were athletes and kept finding themselves in bets and were quite competitive in their own sport. It was just slightly boring for me. 😕 I’ve only read one other book by this author so I do enjoy her writing and look forward to the next book in this series.

Bro this was a solid book. I thought it was going to be cringy… which it was, but it was actually the good kind of cringy that had me giggling. I read left 70% of this book on a 1 1/2hr flight that included a 20 minutes nap. I devoured it.

This book was so dumb first of all the title was not accurate at all. Laney was absolutely not any kind of tomboy so the title was so crazy in accurate then the whole premise of her, moving in with her best friend and him moving in with the guy in charge of social media for the college team, who happens to be her best friend’s brother, complicated too complicated and why introduced her best friend and that character Matt when they were barely even in it it was the last on campus or something like that and they had two choices either shack up together or one of them has to move out that would’ve been much much better of this stupid bet what was the point of that bet the bet did absolutely nothing for the plot and for a book that was almost 300 pages a whole lot of nothing actually happened OK the whole story took place over the course of I thought it was a week, but I guess it was three weeks I mean, I guess yeah OK the author did a piss poor job of Really documenting the passage of time and you know these are two seniors and I guess I’m just not into college romances I mean, I have such a hard time believing that they’re really mature. I mean they’re really behaving more like people in their mid 20s I think about how I was as a senior in college and it wasn’t like that not every senior in college is going to be like at the same time, it felt just very impossible and then cutter is ladies man but then we never really get that and it’s just like 75 pages into the book. The author starts dropping these things that just feel like convenient little plot points that should’ve been much much earlier when she’s introducing the characters to us and we’re getting their background and everything instead of just like dives right in and we’re trying to get to know these characters so it’s like I’m trying to get to know them, but I’m also supposed to be rooting for them. It was just dumb, dumb dumb dumb, at least there wasn’t really a break up and they didn’t really break up. They weren’t really together. It was more like she was too afraid to try anything but it didn’t last long and that was good but it could’ve been so much better man it could’ve been so much better. The fact that they’re both athletes and really competitive that was a great plot line and of itself so I feel like that should’ve been more of the focus, but instead, we barely get to know any of his teammates or her teammates again for 300 page book there’s a lot going on and it all has to be surface level because his mom has cancer and he has 1 million siblings and her dad is a deadbeat and she also has issues with her mother. Her parents are divorced, and then they never actually go to class and they’re supposed to be enemies and yeah, the very end literally says she was never my enemy and made me realize I’m really tired enemies to lovers because it’s not really true like she really hated him like she said she did. She wouldn’t be noticing how hot he is, I guess it would be OK if she hated him and he didn’t really hate her and he was just amused by it that would be OK but it’s just so dumb don’t claim to be enemies to lovers if that’s not really the case I want to read something that is a true enemies to lovers they really seriously hate each other so I feel like if we had peeled backor stripped away so many of these other parts of the story that really could’ve been developed better if it was just the two of them sharing a dorm or something student housing we have the proximity they could really really hate each other but then soften towards each other overtime rather piss poor job. I stand behind my one star review.

4.5 stars! I devoured this one! Loved the enemies to lovers vibe, with a close proximity situation. Laney and Cutter have sizzling hot chemistry and their banter will make you laugh and swoon. Definitely worth the read!

I am hopelessly hooked on college sports romances and this first standalone installment in the Final Score series had it GOING ON! Set on the fictional Tiff’s University campus, it’s filled to the brim with some of my favorite tropes with a storyline featuring a feisty star athlete who’s fighting her way back to dominance on the women’s volleyball team after a shoulder injury, a swoony, hunkilicious captain of the hockey team with a sexy swagger and a heart of gold and—eep!—forced proximity when a mix-up has these two sworn adversaries sharing a spare room in a house together. So, what are Laney Price and Cutter McCreary to do? Split the room (AND BED) in half and wager a bet which stipulates that the first one of them to fall for the other has to move out of course! Each of them is determined to one up the other but fate has other plans in mind as these two headstrong housemates find themselves having to break every rule in the gamebook to safeguard their hearts!
Holy moly…all’s fair in love and war in this rollicking romance and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of Laney and Cutter’s poignant and passionate and fun-loving journey together. This winsome tale has so much depth and heart and entertained me from start to finish. Also, I found it utterly refreshing to read a romance between two athletes as opposed to just having the hero as the star player, and I think that this romance played out extremely well! It was chock full of spice, witty banter and sizzling hot sparks headlined by two beautifully nuanced characters you are guaranteed to cheer from the sidelines for. Unlike a lot of sports romances where the sport element takes a backseat, it was center stage to lend this story the kind of authenticity it deserved.
Laney sure is one tough cookie! She’s focused. Driven. FREAKING UNSTOPPABLE! And has a fiery intensity burning within her that cannot be denied. I love how she demands respect and her rightful shot on the court, and how she unapologetically champions for sports equality between the men’s and women’s athletic teams at Tiff U. That said, she took some warming up to in this reverse grumpy/sunshine romance because this highly competitive cutie sure had a big chip on her shoulder and a plethora of disdain for our beloved hero. At least at first. She’s definitely facing an uphill battle as she tries to reclaim her place as starter on the volleyball team during her senior year and fulfill her dreams of going pro. Which means she certainly doesn’t need any distractions to deviate her off course.
Especially in the form of a big muscled, overconfident, irritatingly kind, mouthwateringly gorgeous roommate!
Cutter has been a thorn in her side since freshman year and sharing a room with him is her worst nightmare. But does she truly “hate his guts” or secretly crave this “campus hot boy” with every fiber of her being?! As the story progressed, I found myself softening toward her because her hard outer shell and snark eventually gave way to an underlying inner fragility and aching vulnerability as Cutter chipped away at her defenses and helped her come to realize that her resentment towards him was woefully misplaced and she has been wrongly unleashing her anxiety, frustration and anger about her lack of family support as she fights to make it to the big leagues on the wrong target! Because, as star player himself, Cutter gets the pressure of being a college athlete like no other.
As for Cutter, oh BE STILL MY BEATING HEART! This hot hockey stud was lovable from the start and has so much charm and charisma it should land him in the penalty box! I just adored this big, brawny, adorably dimpled cinnamon roll so much I cannot even put it into words! He’s sweet. Funny. Caring. Protective. Fiercely family oriented. And a shameless flirt to boot. But this sinfully sexy Tiff U hockey captain is definitely not just your carbon cutout sports star. He’s selflessly shouldering some emotional baggage as well —due to his mom’s illness—but he doesn’t let what’s happening on the homefront taint his optimistic view of the world or turn him bitter, which I appreciated. Life has certainly thrown him some curveballs but due to being raised right by a loving, supportive family he handles it with grace and dignity, which made me worship him even more. And did I mention he's a MENACE on the ice?! This is a hero that dreams are made of and Laney has sure met her match with this guy as they go toe to toe and eventually LIP TO LIP as their pent-up passion implodes!
I enjoyed the slow burn to this “roomies with benefits” romance, the palpable push pull, the one-upmanship as they circle round one another, hiding their true feeling beneath their barbs. But these two can only fight the inevitable for so long. The emotional connection that the author painstakingly forges between Laney and Cutter as they try to navigate their way through this impossible arrangement is truly one to treasure. Watching this competitive, headstrong duo realize they are both on the verge of losing the bet as they find themselves falling for one another in tandem was such a beautiful thing to behold. I love how Cutter is Laney’s rock during tough times and she in turn is there for him too when he needs her which proves that these two are BOTH winners in my book!
Ultimately, THE TOMBOY & THE CAPTAIN scored a major goal! It made my heart ache and flutter, gave me giggles galore…and left me with a HUGE smile on my face. So, if you are looking for a captivating, irresistible read with a plethora of steam and sizzle and swoon then you are in for a DELICIOUS treat with this fetching tale. Cannot wait for book two!!

The Tomboy and The Captain is adorable. Ginger Scott once again shows her expertise in the sports world by giving us two very determined college athletes in Laney Price and Cutter McCreary and the forced roommates to more kind of romance they embark upon. Both are attracted to the other but as seniors both can't and won't get involved with anyone, especially each other even though they are tasked with sharing a room and bed after signals get crossed with their other two housemates. In fact, I loved that Cutter knew how to rattle Laney just right after years of giving each other the side-eye after he hit on the star volleyball player as freshmen.
But there's a sweetness between them as Laney and Cutter get to know each other in their cramped quarters and I could tell that even if they never became involved romantically, they'd become good friends. I enjoyed how they simply 'got each other' as very intense athletes, always wanting to do their best and be recognized as such. With Laney coming off of a season-ending injury, I was rooting hard for her to be back on the team after she had been cleared medically and loved how Cutter understood all of her frustration at possibly being pushed aside for the time being.
Cutter's plate is also full with a wonderful mother who has medical issues of her own together with wanting to get drafted to the hockey minors when his time with college was complete. And what a truly great guy he is to everyone no matter if they are simply an acquaintance, a fellow teammate or a girl he may have dated. He was raised well despite his father's shortcomings and if Laney didn't hold on tight to Cutter after all they experienced in the short month both start falling for the other, I would've claimed the fictional hero for myself!! He's that dreamy.

I really enjoyed the antics of siblings Ivy and Matt and wouldn't mind seeing them in future books since they provided a few crazy moments throughout. As she says in her author's notes, she really did enjoy writing this first book in The Final Score series and it shows.

Ginger Scott is a chameleon when it comes to writing. While her last book felt heavy and angsty, The Tomboy and the Captain felt lighter and fun. I flew through it, reading it in one sitting.
I adored the characters. Laney was a talented college volleyball player whose confidence had taken a little bit of hit with an injury. Cutter was the hockey team's Captain and most sought-after campus hottie. Cutter is not Laney's favorite person and when they accidentally end up renting the same room all bets are ON. They are both determined to end up the sole inhabitant of the room. First, they have to find a way to get along while they share the room, and that's where the fun comes.
These two don't hate each other the way Laney wants them to. I loved how they got to know each other better and the emotional connection they made. Most of the time things were fun and flirty, but there were also some harder things they had to deal with. They way they got through those things together made my heart happy. Their romance was so sweet.
The side characters were great. Ivy, Laney's best friend, was driven when it came to her school and work but also highly entertaining. Ivy's brother Matt was obnoxious but in a way that made me both laugh and shake my head. Cutter's mom and brothers made me smile a lot. Laney and Cutter had a good group of people surrounding and supporting them.
I had such a good time reading The Tomboy and the Captain. New adult sports romance is where Ginger Scott's writing shines the most for me and she knocked this one out of the park. If you enjoy college sports romances, you won't want to miss this one.

Ginger Scott makes a great start in her new The Final Score series with The Tomboy and Captain!
Laney Price was a college volleyball player getting ready for her comeback after a serious injury. Cutter McCreary was a popular college hockey player. Both Laney and Cutter had aspirations of going pro after college and the talent to get them there. From their Freshmen year these two butted heads and when unforeseen circumstances found them reluctantly sharing a room together sparks flew and the playful grudge banter began.
This story started off light-hearted with a pinch of grumpy only to gradually build up to a more serious mood as the characters got past their misconceptions and got to know each other. While this work was a slow burn the heat was there from the beginning keeping the anticipation going for this couple to rip off the band-aid and acknowledge their initial assessment of each other was off base and dive into their attraction. A lot of this story focused on Laney and Cutter finally realizing what everyone else already knew about them but that they were blinded to because of silly misunderstandings, they were good people. The meaningful exchanges in this work were well done and went from fun to poignant.
Ms. Scott is an author who is comfortable tackling personal issues that help define her characters. She does not shy away from hard circumstances and choices and grows her portrayals as they navigate their life experiences. Bad things happen in her books but so do good things and this author always keeps her stories real with her empathetic writing. It's Ok to be a mess in Ginger Scott's stories and vulnerability often shows strength. Ginger Scott's The Tomboy and the Captain takes a leap at love and wins the story!

I'm not really a sports fan, but I absolutely love a good sports romance. This one? It's so, so good.
Laney is a star volleyball player trying to make her comeback following an injury. Cutter is Captain of the hockey team and a thorn in Laney's side. When they're both promised the same room in a housing mix-up, they make a bet. They'll split the room for now, but whomever gets feelings for the other first has to move out.
This is a fun, flirty, romantic, and sometimes emotional story that drew me in from the very beginning. Being in my hockey era, I've obviously read a ton of hockey romances, but I do believe that this is the first book that I've read featuring a volleyball player (and seeing as how I was that girl who once took a volleyball to the face in high school, I can honestly say that I enjoyed reading about someone who is good at the sport!) Laney is independent, competitive and fierce, and I loved that about her character. Cutter is more than just the hot jock, and I adored seeing his softer side (especially when it comes to his relationship with his mom). Laney and Cutter together have a chemistry that is hot and fun, and I couldn't get enough of them together.
Although there were some emotional moments in this story, for the most part, this is a fun and steamy romance without a lot of angst. There are some parts that will definitely pull at your heartstrings and I may have teared up a bit, but this story definitely had me smiling and even laughing out loud a time or two. This is a great start to this new sports series, and I cannot wait for the next book.

This is such a fun read!
Laney is so prickly and Cutter is easy-going and laid back. They are complete opposite and yet their dynamic together is just perfect.
Cutter is the exact match for Laney, he totally gets her…her drive and dedication to her sport is something he admires and while he teases her and she bites every time, she secretly loves his attentions and understanding.
He very quickly gets a read on Laney and gives her just enough time and space to breathe but is always there for her.
I loved Cutter…can you tell!!
But I also admired Laney…all her struggles and challenges were real with no unnecessary dramas..I enjoyed getting to know her as the story progressed and I appreciated that her character was consistent. The glimpses of her vulnerability that were shared with Cutter were such lovely couple moments…intimacy that only trust and love can bring. The safety to be yourself, which is really hard to find when you are as stubborn and independent as Laney is!!
I totally get her reluctance to fall, when you feel like you’ve been the only one in your own corner for so many years, to suddenly have someone not only see you, but also show up for you it’s a hard thing to accept…. Cutter’s influence on Laney and her other relationships, the way he showed her just exactly what she did have, instead of worrying about what she didn’t….showing her that to care isn’t a weakness!!
Once again Ms Scott has brought characters you can’t help but admire and cheer for. Her writing is exact and precise as always…not over the top angsty…it’s just right and I can’t wait to meet the next two in this series.
