When a nut pops out of the ground, all the animals vie for the tasty prize. Should the prickliest animal get it? Or the cuddliest? Badger decides there will be a race and the winner will get the nut. But the nut race doesn't go quite as planned.
The animals in the forest were busy arguing when a nut popped up between them. This prompted another argument between the animals as to who's nut it rightfully belonged to. The animals decide to have a race to determine the winner, but the hedgehog rolls into a ball and rolls past them - not quite running a race now is he? They decide to restart the race as the argument continues over the nut. With an unexpected turn of events, they all win in due to a new friend that they make. I just found it a little too disjointed and it didn't flow that well.
Genre: fantasy Copyright: 2004 This book was about some forest animals trying to decide who would get the nut. I didn't really like it because throughout the book they were fighting about the nut and there wasn't much problem solving or sharing. This book is appropriate for pre-school -1st grade. I would just have this book as a book students can choose go read but I would not read it out loud since there would need to be a really far stretch to teach students anything.
This is a fun little book that appeals to PreK-2nd grade. Like human kids, two squirrels are fussing over a snack (a delicious acorn) that they both want. They accidentally wake up Badger, and he decides that they should race for it. Other woodland animal friends quickly join in and up to the top of the hill they all go to begin! As the animals argue about the fairness of the race, and the acorn begins to magically disappear and reappear, the friends learn a fun lesson about sharing!
It is interesting book for little children. This book about how animals have competition and winner can have the possibility to have a nut. Finally, animals find that the nut was empty inside, but Mole gives them a lot of nuts and it was enough for everybody. Everyone was happy.
Very funny and interactive book! I thought this book was really funny and children would have so much fun during this read aloud! The race between the forest animals fighting over the nut was the best part!
What happens when you mix a squirrel named Pecan, a squirrel named Hickory, an array of other animals and a lone almond nut? The Nutty Nut Chase, of course. Hilarity and healthy competition ensue as all of the characters in this story have one goal in mind. To gain possession of the elusive, delicious almond nut that keeps sporadically popping up, disappearing back underground again, only to pop-up somewhere else. The silly personality of the animals, along with the adventurous hunt for the nut, will have the reader laughing with each turn of the page. Without giving away the surprise ending, it is safe to say, one will definitely enjoy “digging” their way through this nutty little treasure.
The Nutty Nut Chase teaches the importance of sharing and friendship, while sprinkling in a little healthy competition, too. These are all important lessons for children to learn about early on in life. The characters are adorable and quirky, thanks to Ms. White’s clever imagination and the creative illustrations doodled by Ms. Cabban, compliment the story.

The story was categorized under fantasy because of the talking animals.
