Dana Mentink takes her readers back to the small town if Furnace Falls in Death Valley for another suspense story. A locale that is fascinating and a good plot with some twists and good characters make for a very good read.

My thanks to the publisher and author for a copy of this book.

Death Valley Double Cross is a "Hold onto your seat!" romantic suspense. The main characters, Austin and Pilar, are likable and relatable. I relished reading about their changes as their characters developed, possibly because I could see some of those same areas that I need to work on. The plot is filled with twists and turns. There's a huge one towards the end, but totally believable. The antics of Austin's dogs--Chunky, Waffles, Ethel, and Lucy provide some tender moments and some humorous ones as well.
Spoiler Alert for animal lovers--All of the animals are okay. End of Spoiler.
I recommend this book to clean romantic suspense readers, to Christian romantic suspense readers, and to dog lovers.
I received a complimentary copy and an sharing my opinion of this exciting and well written romantic suspense.

Whow! Dana this book is one of your best. Robbery, murder and run away bride and more. Pilar thought all her life her Dad was dead. But he is very much alive. His partner is after Pilar. Her Mother is held for ransom. But not by who thought to have her. Austin who she left at altar brings Chunk, a dog, to her door. Pilar pulls them inside to keep them safe. Pilar loves dogs. Austin did not expect to see Pilar. And thus begins a very suspenseful stream of events. I dare you to read it. You will be surprised about who has put Pilar and Austin in danger. It is available on Kindle now but won't be out in paperback til 22nd.

Death Valley Double Cross ( Desert justice #3 )
By: Dana Mentink
Death Valley Double Cross is book three in the series Desert Justice. It is a Love Inspired Suspense Inspirational Romance that is full of Suspense, mystery, courage, danger, faith and second chances. I was captured at the start and could not put it down. Mentink did not disappoint. The story is well written and the characters are well developed. Pillar learns shocking news of her father, she is trying to help her mother, and an ex-fiancee has come back into her life. How can she keep herself and everyone safe?
I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but a review is not required. All opinions are my own.

This book is absolutely awesome! Every book in this series has such interesting story lines and characters. They are different and engaging. That's why I can't get enough of them. This book is more of the same. My hat is off to the author for creating stories that keep you guessing and make you sure the main characters make it through ok! Pilar left Austin at the altar and broke his heart. He's tried to move on but imagine his shock when he delivers a rescue dog to an apartment and Pilar opens the door and drags him inside when she feels she's being watched. He can't believe it when he sees Pilar! That begins a wild adventure with a ton of action! Austin's whole family gets involved, somewhat reluctantly because of the whole Pilar-leaving-Austin-at-the-altar thing! Pilar has recently discovered that her dad is alive (she thought he was dead) and in jail but now his partner is stalking her for information. Her mom has disappeared, and she will do anything to find her. I loved the characters and the setting. Furnace Falls in the Death Valley is such an interesting setting. I enjoyed learning more about this interesting place in our nation! I loved the theme of second chances in this story too.

This story was packed with action and danger right from the very beginning! It is book three in the Desert Justice series, yet is easily readable as a stand alone novel.

I liked that this was a second chance at love story. Pilar and Austin had a painful history and it spoke to the man Austin had become that he was determined to help Pilar even after the heartache she had caused him.

Both Pilar and Austin had grown and matured emotionally during their time apart. I liked watching them reconnect as they worked to stay ahead of the villain.

Having read the first two books in the series, I enjoyed seeing some familiar faces and finding out what was going on in some of the other characters’ lives. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Death Valley Double Cross is great addition to the Desert Justice series by Dana Mentink. I was excited to hear that Austin was getting his own story after being left at the altar. I enjoyed this second chance romantic suspense between Austin and Pilar. It was good to see them work through their own issues and obviously their issues with one another after the heartbreaking wedding that did not happen the first time around. This story was complete with action, suspense, and the right amount of romance. I also liked updates on the other family members we have gotten to know in the other books and appreciated how the family stood by Austin when Pilar entered his world once again. Lastly, the dog lover in me always falls in love with the canine sidekicks that Dana Mentink writes so well!

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

This book was one of those "can't put it down' books. Dana Mentink is spot on with reaching out and snagging your interest at the start. This is the 3rd book in this series but can also be read stand alone. Pilar got some really shocking news and Austin stepped in to help her despite the past history they had together. Suspense, intrigue, of course God in the middle and dogs are part of this amazing read. I recommend the series. Looking forward to reading the 4th book soon.

Sometimes things aren't as simple, or as complicated as they appear. When Austin Duke goes to make a delivery of an elderly dog to a kind adopter for Sunshine Senior Dog Rescue his whole world turns upside down- again.
Pilar Jefferson is plunged into a nightmare existence that just keeps spiraling out of control. A ruthless man is after her and her former groom has been plunged into her life and the danger that surrounds her.
Dana Mentink gives her readers a new action-packed suspense in the Desert Justice series. Pilar is in danger, and she has one wild and on the edge story that has led her to run away from her own wedding to the man she loves.
This is an excellent read. But, I want more. Can we please have Jude's story too? Pretty please? I like this series and I really like the Duke family.

I could have lost everything, because of my pride.

Pilar Jefferson left her fiancé at the altar because she couldn’t see any other way out of the dilemma she found herself in. Was that the right choice? Only time would tell. Austin Duke, the spurned fiancé, had his own issues to deal with, particularly the ongoing pain and disability from an accident. Perhaps they were better apart.

A robbery from long ago, kidnapping, murder and more will keep you on the edge of your seat hoping and praying that those lost will be found and that the mystery will be solved. This is a story of second chances with more twists and turns than you can keep up with. The author takes us back to Furnace Falls in beautiful Death Valley. We have the opportunity to catch up with characters from the earlier Desert Justice books and meet new ones. Some of these are not ones you would want to meet in a dark alley, or anywhere for that matter.

This ARC was received through Love Inspired Suspense and Harlequin. The impressions and comments are my own and were in no way solicited.

Are forgiveness and second chances even possible?

I thought I knew what to expect in Dana Mentink's Desert Justice series but it seems she just keeps right on amping up the danger and suspense with each new release. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, Death Valley Double Cross was no exception to that.

There was no letup on the twists and turns of this Death Valley Double Cross, there was a time or two I thought there might be a double cross on a double cross, and Dana Mentink gives neither her characters nor readers a chance to catch their breath. You are just on for a wild ride of romantic suspense in one of the harshest environments in the world. Can Love Inspired Suspense get much better than this...cause this story was so good I don't think it could.

I really enjoyed trying to figure out all of the intricacies of the interconnected threads of mystery in Death Valley Double Cross, seriously, the title was the perfect choice for this particular story! Nothing and no one in Dana Mentink's third Desert Justice novel were really as they first appeared, well, except for maybe my favorite four-legged character friends.

If you are up for a good Love Inspired Suspense set in an equally thrilling and dangerous location may I suggest Dana Mentink's latest novel Death Valley Double Cross...just remember to grab a glass of lemonade and some sunscreen...

God is in the business of rescuing us and giving us second chances. Mentink does a good job of exploring that theme in this novel. The main ones who get second chances are Pilar and Austin. But the God given opportunity is plagued with danger and missteps. Both have to work through obstacles before romance can be rekindled.

There is a good dose of mystery, suspense and danger in the plot too. I did feel the plot progression a bit convoluted. The camping and flare gun episode was a little strange. That scene and some of Cyrus' actions were odd. I felt the villain was no surprise as many clues were offered. I really liked Austin's devotion to rescuing dogs. He's a good man who just had to work out some issues, which Mentink had him accomplish.

This is the third novel in a series. While it reads rather well on its own, characters from the earlier novels do play a part in this one. The earlier novels are good too so I suggest reading them before this one. Mentink's writing style is clear and the novel was generally an engaging read.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Reader whiplash warning! Just when you think things are going a certain way...well, they aren't! I kept shaking my head, going 'whaaattt?", recalibrating, and then off at break-neck speed in another direction. Loved it!!!! And the romance...oy, angsty reunion romance between two troubled souls who are still trying to figure things out. Luckily they don't have to do it alone because...

There are dogs, people, lots and lots of dogs! Especially one winsomely wise senior pug mix named Chunk! And Austin's posse of a family (two who have starred in their own breath-taking adventures!) So this was also a fun catch-up. With hopefully more books in our reading future.

No worries if you haven't read Framed in Death Valley or Missing in the Desert because Death Valley Double Cross reads wonderfully well as a standalone novel. Love this foreign (to me) setting too. The author's descriptions transform words into vivid images and made my read that much more captivating.

Another exciting instalment to Dana Mentink's Desert Justice Series.

Pilar is shocked to find the ex-fiance that she left at the alter on her doorstep.

A fast paced read, with an engaging plot, and a mystery to be unraveled. I liked how this book had Pilar and Austin working together to catch the killer, as well as bringing back a few familiar faces. There was a lot going on in this book, and I liked how the twisting plot kept me guessing.

Austin doesn't know what to think right away when he sees Pilar, but I like that he wants to stay and help keep her safe, even if it takes him some time to sort out out to feel about it all. I liked how he cares for his dogs, and has a passion for helping older dogs find homes.

Overall, an action-packed read with a great plot and characters that I could root for, as well as many familiar faces. An excellent addition to a fantastic series, but can definitely be read as a stand alone. A fast paced read that you won't want to put down!

I am always amazed by the quality of Dana Mentink's writing. I love these characters in Death Valley Double Cross. I love the unique setting and how the theme of forgiveness plays out. How can you forgive? Sometimes it seems impossible. This book takes forgiveness and gives it a solid foundation that allowed me to see each character's dilemma and want to see them all succeed in learning this valuable lesson through they'd been put through some serious pain to get where they are now. People change. Who you were five years ago and who you are today, you've changed. Hopefully for the better. That is what I saw these characters learn and struggle with as they faced their own shortcomings. It's a lot to pack into a short book, and Dana Mentink does it so well. Not to mention the constant threat and suspense that's always on the horizon. I received a copy of this book from the author through Celebrate Lit. I was not required to leave a positive review. Just like with all of her books, this one had me hooked. I could feel the tension between Austin and Pilar. I loved that Pilar was trying to do the right thing to protect the people she loved. I also liked the way Austin was trying to learn to not shut out others and to admit when he was not able to do what he could before an injury. You could see the two of the growing as they were trying to figure out where her mother was and how to escape a killer. This book had me on the edge of my seat and I would recommend it.

Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense always provides intriguing inspirational tales with plenty of romance and suspense, such as the Desert Justice series by Dana Mentink, of which “Death Valley Double Cross” is book three. Each of these stories can technically be standalones, but I would recommend reading them chronologically in order to follow the characters and avoid spoilers. The Duke clan never fails to be entertaining while simultaneously imparting life lessons discovered through their own experiences. To that end, Biblical principles gently undergird the narrative, demonstrating rather than merely telling.

“Death Valley Double Cross” certainly proves to be an apt title several times over as the storyline develops, which makes it all the more interesting. Surprises abound! The crux of the story, however, rests in the character interactions and true-to-life dysfunctional relationships that add tension while also opening the door for the potential of grace. Pilar Jefferson made an impossible decision six months ago, leaving her fiancée at the altar, and her personal life has imploded with revelations from the past, a past that now threatens her life. The jilted Austin Duke finds himself unwittingly drawn back into Pilar’s life, and they both slowly realize their own weaknesses. This is one of the book’s central messages: learning to recognize one’s own flaws and continually working with God to overcome them. As Austin acknowledges, “Humility was a hard lesson, but for some reason he knew he was a better man for trying to learn it.” Mentink reminds readers that pride includes trying to shoulder burdens on one’s own and not asking for help when it’s necessary. Of course, the first and best resource we have is the Lord!

That our God is a God of the unexpected becomes evident as the plot unfolds. Who would have guessed that redemption and new life could be found in Death Valley? It reminds me of the Easter story, of Jesus’ death and resurrection ushering in redemption and eternal life for those who truly commit their lives to Him. As Pilar realizes, “Commitment was more than love, it was trust and endurance and forbearance and humility and God’s grace.” It is not easy, but it is absolutely worth it!

For anyone who wonders how God can take something tragic and use it for our good and His glory, “Death Valley Double Cross” presents a beautiful fictional exploration of this topic. Also, dog enthusiasts will enjoy the four canines featured in the story, all of whom live to tell the tale (a must for dog lovers such as myself).

I hope you have read the first two books in this series because it has been an exciting adventure. The details about Death Valley are phenomenal due to the author’s visit to the place. I love how she makes readers feel like they are actually there at Death Valley with the characters. Now it’s time to find out what happens as we get acquainted with people who will make this story come to life.

It is a tangled web of deceit, mistrust, hurt and secrets in this action packed story. I couldn’t help but cheer for Austin. The poor guy was left at the altar with no explanation. It is easy to understand why he isn’t thrilled to run into his ex fiancée. I loved that he transported senior dogs to people who were going to adopt them. Everyone loves sweet little puppies, but the older dogs always tug on my heartstrings. Bringing Chunk to his forever home unlocks a mess of trouble for Austin. Can you guess whose place he is bringing the dog to?

Pilar is shocked when she discovers who is at her door. I can see the look on both of their eyes but they sure don’t have the same reaction. One is desperate for help while the other one is shocked and a little angry. Isn’t it funny how your past always catches up with you? I won’t give much away but I will hint at a few things. Pilar has a story to share with Austin, but really does he want to get involved with her crazy life again? Oh the heart does what the heart wants to do and Austin is right there to protect Pilar.

There are so many twists in the story that I had to pull out my journal to take notes. Well to be fair I always take notes when reading for a review. Now this book had me stumped a few times. I wasn’t sure that Pilar’s dad could be trusted and he went to the top of my list of suspects. But wait all you mystery fans. We now have to add a few more names to the list. Seems our clever author has given us a real whopper of a mystery to solve. Who is after Pilar? Can Austin get past his anger at Pilar to help her?

This story has all the ingredients that make an exceptionally great suspenseful book with action, secrets, a little romance, faith and a beautiful example of second chances.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Death Valley Double Cross is written by the one and only Dana Mentink. Dana is one of my most favorite authors, and it is always an honor to be on a tour that is featuring her book. This book is book 3 in the Desert Justice series. I have read books 1 and 2, however, it is not necessary to read them in order. The author will mention previous characters, but you will not feel like you are missing anything. This is part of the Love Inspired Suspense line.

One of my most favorite things about this author is the fact that she always starts her books off with action - and it does not let up throughout the whole story. She grabs you into the plot within the first chapter. I read this book in one day. Pilar Jefferson left ex fiancé Austin Duke at the alter six months ago. She never gave Austin reasons why - and suddenly their paths cross again when Austin brings a senior dog (Oh how I loved Chunk) to her door step. Austin is SHOCKED to see Pilar and is scared for her safety when someone tries to break into her apartment while he is there with her.

Pilar's father was part of a armored car robbery gone bad. He went to prison and Pilar always thought he was dead until her mother tells her the truth. Pilar realizes that her father's partner thinks that Pilar and her mother have the money hidden somewhere that was never recovered and will not stop until he gets his hands on it. If that means harming or worse Pilar and her mother - then so be it.

Austin gets caught up in the whole mess. He was deeply hurt when Pilar left with no explanation. However, his heart knows that he needs to keep her safe. He enlists the help of friends and family - but they are still stand off ish towards Pilar. Can he protect her? Will they figure out where the money is?

The author writes such great descriptions in her stories. You can picture yourself on scene watching the story unfold. Her characters are well written, the story line is unique and intriguing. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

“Sorry is what you say when you break somebody’s coffee cup or lose your temper. Doesn’t seem like enough for betraying someone and humiliating them in front of everyone they love.”

Austin Duke, delivering a senior rescue pet, is suddenly thrown together with his ex-fiancé Pilar Jefferson. Together, they race to protect Pilar and unravel the mystery surrounding her family.

Dana Mentink skillfully brings the dry, hot Death Valley to life with her evocative word pictures. In this third Death Valley novel, Death Valley Double Cross, one can almost see the delicate desert blooms, feel the heat, and be exhausted by jaunts into the rocky cliffs. Any dog lovers need to beware: these four critters of Austin’s will steal your heart, just as they do Pilar’s. And the emotional wringer Mentink will put one through as we see Pilar’s reasoning for her actions, then Austin’s reasoning. Plus, the emotions of running for one’s life. Those who have tight-knit families or wish for one will love the extended Duke clan and their protectiveness for one of their own. I loved the spiritual journey of discovery that we see in both Pilar and Austin as the novel progresses. And, like the great writer she is, Mentink throws in some twists and curves that keep you guessing and readjusting your theories as you go. Bravo!!

I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher through Celebrate Lit. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Notable Quotables:

“How much of my life is an out-and-out lie?”

Noise and fear were related.

“No one understood the cost of her decision to run away...especially not Austin.”

The notion was tantalizing, that forgiveness could be handed out so graciously, like letting go of a heavy weight by simply relaxing your grip.

“No point in considering the ‘could haves.’ That’s one thing I’ve learned through all this physical therapy after I got shot. Work with what you have at the moment instead of what might have been.”

Humility would bring him grace.

LOVE Inspired books are really a favorite of mine. They are short books, but packed with great stories. Dana Mentink is back with the 3rd book in the Desert Justice series, Death Valley Double Cross. I have read the first 2 books in this series and was excited for Book 3.

Pilar Jefferson has just learned some shocking news, learning her father whom she believed to be Dead, is actually serving time in Prison. She also knows that she is being watched and someone is looking to kill her. Pilar is forced to make a drastic decision and leave her Fiance, Austin Duke, at the Altar. She feels it is best for her to go into hiding to keep others around her safe. Austin was devasted by the sudden change in their relationship and has tried to move on. He was quite shocked when he knocked on a door of an apartment to drop off a Rescue Dog and Pilar opens the door. Pilar is trying to help her mom who is in a dangerous situation. Austin and his Family decide to help rescue her mom. Will they be able to Rescue her mom before it is too late? Will Pilar and Austin renew their relationship?

WOW, Dana Mentink sure does know how to write a Suspenseful story! The storyline captured me from the beginning and I finished the book within 2hrs. Pilar and Austin, the main characters, are enjoyable and I LOVE how their frienship and relationship grew, especially during the Second Chance Romance time. There twists and turns in the book really kept me glued to the storyline. I can honestly say I have never been sooo "on the edge of my seat" for any book ever, until this one! This book is one of Suspense, Romance, Second Chances, Faith and so much more. Although this book reads great as a Stand Alone book, I would recommend starting with Book 1 in the series! HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone who loves Suspense and Romance!

Death Valley Double Cross is the third book in Dana Mentink’s Desert Justice series but can certainly be read as a stand-alone. Just like the great preceding stories in the series, this one is definitely a winner, too.
Pilar Jefferson left her groom at the altar to protect him, but her action might have been in vain. Now that her father has been released from prison, his former partner is out to get what he thinks belongs to him and doesn’t care who has to hurt to get it. Believing Pilar is the key to finding the missing stolen money, he threatens her and everyone she cares about.
Austin Duke has been nursing a severe shoulder injury and a grudge. He has never gotten over the way Pilar ran out on him. When he is thrust back into her life, he must confront his demons while trying to protect her. Will he ever be able to forgive her and trust her? Can they work together to keep their loved ones safe and themselves from getting killed?
Death Valley Double Cross is not only a great romantic suspense, but it’s also a book about people who must face the past and rise above it; who must look inside themselves to admit their shortcomings and institute change; who must decide to forgive, let go of grudges, and trust again. The characters are so believable. They experience the gamut of emotions we all experience at different times in our lives. They live, they learn, they grow—something we all must do.
The plot is riveting and fast moving, and the descriptions put you in the thick of the action, but it is the character development that I found so moving. This book easily earns five plus stars. It is a story of people who learn to trust, forgive, and love while fighting for survival and justice. Kudos, Dana Mentink!

I love this series. I’ve read them all of course. In fact, I think I’ve read almost everything by this author. I really enjoy how she does suspense. It’s solid on Christian faith but also full of the good suspense that has you on the edge of your seat. Something else I appreciate about her writing is that it’s clean. I don’t have to worry about my teens reading her books. I know they will be clean and won’t have material I don’t want them to read.

Getting to know the Duke family has been fun. From a man being accused of a crime he didn’t commit to someone out to kill them you get loads of good suspense with this family. Now Austin enters the spotlight with his almost wife Pilar. Yes, almost wife. She left him at the altar literally. Needless to say he’s gunshy about seeing her again but he can’t leave her in an unsafe location.

As for Pilar her past is back to get her. Only, it’s not her past because she knew nothing about it until people were trying to kill her! Can they work together to find who is behind the threats? Will they be able to stay alive long enough to work out their feelings for each other?

I loved this book and highly recommend you read it. While it is part of a series you can read it as a stand alone though they will make more sense read in order.

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense Death Valley Double Cross. This is book three in the series Desert Justice. I'm a great fan of Dana's work and I'm always thrilled to get one of her books in the mail. This is an awesome one. It's well-written, action-packed, and full of suspense. I know you are going to love it.

Pilar Jefferson left her fiance at the altar when she found out that her supposedly deceased father had been in prison and his former partner was after her. Now her father or his partner sent a dog to her. Her ex-fiance delivers him to her. Her mother is abducted and held for ransom. Can anything else go wrong? Can Austin save her?

Austin Duke transports senior dogs to forever homes with the Sunshine Senior Dog Rescue. He is taking a dog, Chunk to a new home. The dog is sent to ex-fiancee, Pilar, the love of his life. Pilar is in trouble. Can he forgive her? Can he help her without losing his heart again? Can they survive an assassin?

A terrifying journey through the Death Valley; heat, assassins, and rough terrain. God has a plan for these two. A plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. A good plan for peace and not for destruction, even in this time of COVID, wars, and political chaos. Give Him your heart and watch Him turn things around for you.

My first introduction to the books of Dana Mentink was through her Love Unleashed contemporary romance series. I enjoyed her writing as well as her humor in those books and was a bit surprised when asked to review one of her Love Inspired Suspense novels. What a versatile author! She is an expert when it comes to suspense. I think I have managed to read a copy of every one of her LIS books since and have never been disappointed.

Death Valley Double Cross takes readers back to Furnace Falls for yet another exciting, nonstop. action-packed, suspense filled tale. An unexpected encounter with the man she left at the alter is just the beginning of a life threatening experience for Pilar Jefferson. One surprise after another and more twists than one can imagine follow Pilar and Austin as they attempt to stay one step ahead of the person who will do anything to find the hidden money from an old robbery. Working together is awkward but there is no other choice.

A story of second chances, forgiveness, and faith, Death Valley Double Cross offers a chance to catch up with old friends from the previous books of the series and make a few new ones. Easily a standalone, this book is even better after reading the others.

Pilar Jefferson ran off on her wedding day to Austin Duke. Sure, they had their problems, he could be stubborn and not nice, especially after his injury, but they had decided their love was worth working on and living out, or so Austin thought. Pilar left without a trace, and she had good reason. Danger was on her heals and she thought it best to run.

Then one day Austin comes to deliver an old dog to its adopter and low and behold he meets up with Pilar, who is much changed now, even if it has only been six months since he has last seen her. Austin gets down to business quick and demands answers. Pilar gives them somewhat reluctantly but gives them she does and even I as a reader am shocked at what she has had to live through. Austin realizes real quick Pilar didn't have cold feet at their wedding, danger had come for her.

With the usual top notch Mentink suspense, this was a fun thriller to dive into and escape the real world for a while. The dogs Austin worked with for had me choked up a bit, and I will say I was concerned for those precious animals!

I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series. This third installment has been my favorite thus far. Dana’s pacing is masterful, and one thing you can always count on is a high stakes, fast-paced action scene to kick the story into high gear right off the bat. I love it. You’re immediately pulled in and can’t stop turning pages.

This installment involves Austin, one of the brothers. He has become my favorite hero of all the heroes so far in the series because he’s broken and in need of fixing. But the beautiful thing about Austin is that he knows this already and he is in the process of working on himself. This isn’t something I see a lot and when it does show up in a character, they’re fixing themselves near the end of the book. But early on, we see Austin actively working on himself.

Of course, what would Christian romantic suspense be without a faith arc? I love how that was woven in subtly, but still present and still relevant to he characters and their lives.

This is a fantastic second chance romance, full of action, suspense, and danger. And as always, Dana’s descriptions of Death Valley are breathtaking. I highly recommend not only Death Valley Double Cross but the entire series. I am working my way through it as I write this.

Thank you to the author and Celebrate Lit publishing for providing me with a copy to review.

What i think you should know:
Death Valley Double Cross by Dana Mentink is the third book in the Desert Justice series. While this book could be read as a standalone I recommend reading the prior books in the series as this book does give spoilers and updates on the characters that were featured. This book features Austin Duke, who was jilted at the altar and his former fiancé.

What I think about this book:
I can’t get enough of Furnace Falls, while it may be a small town, it is anything but sleepy! I LOVE his family’s fierce protection of him when Pilar returns. If there weren’t enough things to love about Austin when you add in his ragtag group of dogs, he will quickly become a favorite. Pilar was such a sweet character, I can’t imagine finding out that I had been lied to most of my life and was now on the run for my life. Mentink did a great job of allowing both Austin and Pilar to move past pain of the past and grow as people and in their faith. This was a really interesting, fast paced story with lots of twists and turns! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own
