When she was a wee girl, Asumi had a memorable encounter with her friend Mai that she ended with some regrettable words. Now that she’s in college (and blessedly legal for a change), she’s got the lead on where Mai may have gone (gone). And if that means she’s got to sleep her way through an entire escort service, then, by God, she’ll do it.
I like yuri. I admit this freely. I also sample just about everything, minus that twincest anthology (yikes) and some books that didn’t quite work (don’t wear hair, kids), in the genre. When it comes to titles like this one and, say, Breasts Are My Favorite Thing in the World, I am especially grateful for e-readers because reading this in a public space might be a slight bridge too far for me.
And if that cover raises your eyebrows, be advised that the content might blow your head clean off. This book is a full on sex romp of the kind I haven’t seen in a long time, with a couple important differences.
The most important is Asumi herself. Yes, her ingenious plan to sleep with all these lesbian escorts until she finds Mai, who is rumoured to work the scene, is exactly as insane as it sounds (only equalled by the notion that Mai might be anywhere near her orbit, which she naturally is, of course).
What’s not the norm is that this is a full-on sexual awakening. Normally these stories would trade on embarrassing the lead to death in any manner of ways. That happens here, to an extent, but it’s on the way to Asumi figuring out her sexual identity.
There’s a real growth to her character, even if it’s wrapped up in a particularly thirsty wrapper, but it blessedly treats sex work as work and the act of sex as, you know, something that adults can enjoy and come to get better at over time.
Seeing Asumi go from having zero confidence and a wild imagination (some of the fantasies in this one are something else) and a very, very “helpful” senpai to starting to figure out her kinks - this story is very BDSM friendly I should add - and what she likes during sex is kind of a great touch (or two [sorry, not sorry]).
Is this story explicit? Oh dear lord yes. There isn’t a full depiction of the vaginal area, but everything else is referenced and displayed and poked, prodded, kissed, nibbled, bit, licked, stroked… you get the idea. And there’s lots of downstairs business afoot, it’s just marginally abstracted.
The story format is Asumi getting herself a date to go out with one of these girls, they bond, they really bond, cue the aftercare. The women are all different enough and teach her a little something different. It’s practically wholesome minus 95% of the book.
Is it hilarious? No. Is it fun? Yeah, it is. This is like a highly tuned up version of 2.5 Dimensional Seduction, another very racy book that has a little kernel of sweetness buried in there somewhere. I mean, it’s a quest for love, it sounds good on paper. If anything, by the time these two meet it’ll have set the stage for one heck of a climax to the series (ahem cough ahem ahem cough nudge wink).
This is not the usual sort of complex characterization I like in my yuri, but as a confection that knows what it wants to be and has no trouble being that thing all the way, it’s enjoyable. And, yes, fine, if you want to see two ladies getting intimate, this has plenty to fill your eyeballs with and it’s very good at being rather intense.
3.5 stars - this isn’t exactly the sort of book I’d round up on a whim, but it’s so dang positive it’s hard not to. Still, this is so definitely not for everybody and I’d hesitate to recommend it to all concerned. However, if this sounds like you might enjoy it, and you realize what you’re in for, I think you probably will based on the strength of the art and writing.

First book I've read by this author. And one of the few that is: set in Japan, is by a Japanese author, and involves lesbians. So, Japanese women who love women set in Japan. Granted, I knew yuri was a thing, I just haven't spent a much time examining the idea. Think I actually read a manga that was a yaoi (m-m) before I read a yuri (w-w). Right.
Right, so, this is an odd series. Several points of view, though mostly Asumi - from the title of the book and title of the series. Concept of the series is that Asumi, when she was a youngster, had a friend she liked to follow around and stuff. One day that friend, Mai, kissed her. Asumi's blunt comment afterwards was something like "it was okay". Shortly thereafter Mai's family moved away (not because of the kiss or reaction). Asumi still remembers that kiss and Mai. Carries around a picture of Mai.
One day a friend of Asumi's spots the photograph of young Mai and notes that she might look like someone she bumped into relatively recently. Not 100% certain same woman, but looked similar. Shows Asumi a website that contains photographs. Photos that do not contain the head portion. And Asumi knew Mai as a kid, not an adult. So, matching those women up . . . hard.
Oh, and this is a website for a lesbian brothel. The friend, mostly without the other's consent, signs Asumi up for a "meeting". Idea being that Asumi might find Mai through the brothel. Not by asking, of course (confidentiality and stuff) but by literally meeting her through the "meetings".
Series continues from there, expands upon it in certain ways.
Quite interesting in its way.

My only complaint about this is the age gap between Asumi and the girl she’s seeking out, which is not as icky as it could be but not great. Otherwise I liked it a lot! Good scenes while keeping things light and showing vastly different kinds of female SWs.

I was so damn shocked by how cute, fluffy, and spicy this was. I will be continuing and I cannot wait to read more! I am curious to see when Asumi and Mai will meet. The cliffhanger ending may have me staying up late to reading volume 2.

Admit it, the Title is Interesting, Right?
When Asumi was young, she shared one kiss with her childhood crush, Mai.

The only catch is, none of the women on the brothel's websites use their real names or full photos...! So the only way forward to self-discovery and sexual exploration is to start requesting...!!!
So, I'm pretty new to yuri manga; I read a volume of Kashimashi when I was a teenager, and that was kind of it. So being a bisexual adult woman who has no sexual experience with women and reading about Asumi exploring her sexuality, with all the awkward but sweet growth that comes with it, is incredibly refreshing.
Asumi-chan is Interested in Lesbian Brothels! is funny and cute. I don't know if I'd personally call this a "sexy" manga, although it is explicit enough that there's no question about what is being depicted, even if full genitalia isn't openly shown. And it's good.
The topic of sex work is also treated well, and as something people can learn and get better at. The workers are their own people, but also professionally providing a service. Everyone is respected it's so refreshing.
I will say however that it's addictive as Fuck. I finished this volume and I already want to read more! Each chapter has a new girl, reminding me a little of The World God Only Knows, and I'm a sucker for being spoiled with a cast of cute girls.

With a title like this, you'd be forgiven for expecting nothing but smut. But while this certainly has plenty of fun, sexy times, it's the growth Asumi shows in her confidence and self-discovery that really endears me to this. I'm not sold on the main love interest yet, but it'll be interesting to see what happens when they reunite.

This was actually so good. It was equal parts horny shit and so wholesome and sweet. To see a main character that has next to no experience with sex discovering what she likes and gaining new experiences with the women who are so gentle and patient with her was beautiful. This is very pro sex not in a porn way but in a look at this thing that with open communication can be a fun and fulfilling part of life. I adore the main best friend she was unhinged and such a shameless vibe of a person. The main premise of our protagonist wanting to find her first love is also just so compelling and cute considering each of these women she’s hiring have this unknown connection to her love and us getting to see that she is also pining after the one that got away is so sweet.
Officially trash for this series.

This was a cute and it’s Interesting new spin on reconnecting with first love and I like how the main character begins to become more accepting of her body and allows herself to relax some more and be more comfortable and intimate situation is.

I kept looking at this and after showing it to a friend who really loved it, they talked me into reading it too. And I kind of loved it. While it did have lesbian/sapphic sexy scenes, the main plot of it was about a girl looking for the senpai who kissed her when they were kids… and all she has to go on is that she works in a lesbian brothel.
Asumi-chan is trying to find Mai-sama, but she isn’t able to see the person’s face when she’s choosing a match. She sees photos of the women’s torso’s and their age. So she’s slowly making her way through all the women who fit the same profile as her childhood friend/crush.
This is really sweet and I loved the coming-of-age vibes. I’ll definitely be continuing the volumes.

Paljon graafista seksiä, mikä on kokemukseni mukaan aika harvinaista naisten välisiä suhteita kuvaavassa mediassa. Parhaita kaltaisiaan, edelleen hämmentää. Minun on vaikea kuvitella mangan skenaarion toimivassa oikeassa elämässä, mutta toisaalta kuvataanhan esimerkiksi Nagata Kabin esikoisessa oikean elämän lesboseksityötä, onnistuin laittamaan epäilykseni syrjään ja nauttimaan maailmasta, jossa on suhteellisen normalisoitua, että naisetkin voivat saada rahalla kehollista nautintoa (toisilta naisilta) ilman että se on superkiusallista.

cover and title are quite scandalous looking...this ended up being suuuuper sweet though!! and sexy. but very sweet and cute. I loved how sex-positive it is, and seeing asumi chan begin to blossom and gain some self-confidence was great. I can't wait for the next volume...hope asumi and mai get to reunite!!!
