The Step Bet is a steamy bi-awakening low angst stepbrother romance. This is the first book I’ve read from either author, so I was looking forward to The Step Bet is a steamy bi-awakening low angst stepbrother romance. This is the first book I’ve read from either author, so I was looking forward to this story.
Both Atlas and Troy carry a lot of hurt and grief, but I liked how as they got to know one another, they became super close, and they came to really trust one another, especially Atlas, who kept an important side of himself really close to his heart.
We can’t change the past, but talking about it makes it more bearable. And when we’re in the same room together, I feel stronger. Like I can handle those things that at one time I believed might crush me under their weight.
I also liked how the story was lower in angst, and the rivalry between them was never extreme, so the story did not give me an enemies-to-lovers vibe - which I liked. There was always an undercurrent of attraction between the two boys, and Atlas was open to exploring that attraction - even if it took a bet to make him finally act on it.
Overall, I enjoyed it and look forward to the next book in the series....more

Devon gets dumped right before his best friend's wedding with the ex who broke his heart also attending. He was hoping his boyfriend would act as a buffer and also a way to show him that he's moved on. Jesse, Devon's older brother, knows the heartbreak his brother went through and what kind of man his ex is, so he offers to go with him as his fake boyfriend.
This was a sweet and fast pace stepbrothers/best friends to lovers story. These two have been really close forever, and their time Maui pretending to be boyfriends brings up some not-so-brotherly feelings between them. I loved how Jesse just knew his brother so well, those little things and how made sure he had a great time despite his shitty ex trying to harass him. Jesse is really the perfect boyfriend, and Devon got to see how a partner should treat him.
Their feelings develop quickly, but it's no surprise with them being so close. There's a little bit of hesitation on both sides but they realize that they're meant to be together. While this book has the stepbrother trope, it does not feel taboo in any sense. Their main concern is their cover being blown and later on how their parents will take the new status of their relationship.
Overall this was a cute and silly read. This is my first Honey London read, and look forward to checking out their other works....more

We have Jessie, who is caught in the middle of his parent's divorce. Jessie has been carrying guilt and the emotional burden of ensuring that his mother was emotionally okay after the divorce, to the point of moving across the world with her leaving everything behind. Now at 20, he is back in the States to live with his father and new family. However, he's closed off, angry and pushing everyone away. The ultimate grumpy boy.
Luke (19) is just a darling. Sunshine, bright, puppies, a himbo, and so honest. Luke has been attracted to Jessie since their encounter at his mother's wedding and excitedly awaits his return. The ultimate sunshine boy.
I loved how protective Jessie got over Luke it was so sweet and funny to see. Luke, despite being a himbo, had so much depth to him. He's thoughtful and so introspective. He knows what he wants and sees things about Jessie that Jessie himself isn't ready to acknowledge. However, his straightforwardness and openness are exactly what Jessie needs.
I loved the chemistry between them. Luke has waited for Jessie, and their first time was just wonderfully steamy and sweet! I enjoyed seeing their more filthy side come out as they got comfortable with one another. Jesse H Reign, as always, writes great steamy and spicy sex scenes.
Despite the family drama, the story is low angst and definitely on the fluffy, sweet, and funny side and what I needed after reading some darker stories.
Overall I had a great time reading this book. I am a huge fan of Jesse so no surprise I enjoyed The Step Bro Situation. If you enjoy Jesse H Reign's writing and like low angst, stepbrothers, opposites attract, and grumpy/sunshine stories, I recommend it....more
“This love is a forever kind of thing, angel,” I quoted back to him. “And I love you so much my heart hurts with it.”
The Good Liar is the first boo “This love is a forever kind of thing, angel,” I quoted back to him. “And I love you so much my heart hurts with it.”
The Good Liar is the first book in C.P. Harris's new series Infidelity. Jasper and Cole were raised as brothers when Jasper's mother and Cole's father married. These two formed a bond deeper than brothers and deeper than lovers as they grew up together.
I loved the possessiveness between these two. They were so unhinged with their love for one another. Driving away anything and anyone that came near the other. It did not matter who. The jealousy was insane. I loved that they weren't enemies, that once as children they became close, their love as brothers evolved to something more. I am all for enemies to lovers, but when it comes to step brothers I really love it when they're already close.
"I’d always needed to be the source of Cole’s happiness. The sole object of his affection and desire. Even when we were apart. Even when I wouldn’t admit it to myself. And he’d always needed to feel like he was corrupting up an angel, dirtying me up and stealing my innocence from me."
Jasper is filled with guilt, self-loathing and is emotionally volatile despite being successful and married. His past still haunts him; despite appearing as a well adjusted adult on the outside, he is not whole. He balances different jobs and charities and teaches at at his alma mater. However, everything starts to become distorted when his brother, whom he left and disappeared on, reappears in his life. Cole is the successful heir to a mega-tech corporation that is branching out to different markets and fields. He moves the headquarters to New York City, bringing Jasper's husband's law firm in as he slowly re-enters his brother's life.
These two dance around one another. They want to be together, and you can see it in their eyes, the touching, that need to be within one another's grasp, even if it means having an affair. Their love for one another has not waned in their separation. It's still as strong but now weaved in are guilt, anger, and resentment.
The sex was animalistic and raw. The primal passion that ignites between these two is just…no words. Their lovemaking is rough, violent, kinky and all-consuming. Nothing holds these two back once they are in each other's arms. That first scene when they finally give into one another *chef kiss*. I also loved the variety of kinks, especially the scene with somnophilia! I discovered this kink last year, and I do not often come across it outside of specific erotic works, so it was a delight reading it! I can go on and on about C.P. Harris ability to write some of the best sex scenes I have read in a long time.
"I had been the body he improved his art on. I’d gotten to see and feel the changes as we both grew into our sexuality. There was power that came with that. A possessiveness, too. His abilities belonged to me. I drank to keep from launching myself at him."
"I needed to lose control, to have it stolen from me. I needed to be robbed of free will. I was a ball of repression, of pent up aggression, and he was pleasant, a tranquil sea, when what I needed was a fucking tornado to come through and rip everything down to its foundation, including me. I needed him to be Cole."
I also loved how caring and so sweet Cole was. Seriously Jasper had major issues but goodness Cole, as messed up as he was, he was always waiting and ready to take Jasper back. I wanted to shake him a few times to be honest.
“I’ll forgive every imaginable sin against me that your martyr's heart will conjure up. I’m telling you this now because I know how your mind works, Jasper. And when our time comes, I don’t want a moment of it wasted on you beating yourself up. There isn’t anything I couldn’t forgive you for. There is nothing to forgive.”
Loved seeing the growth these two go through. They have dealt with trauma and loss, but both realize at their own pace, they need to get help and seek therapy to deal with the suffocating guilt that keeps them prisoner. I really like how that was addressed in this story. These boys, especially Jasper, needed to let go of that guilt before they could truly be together again.
The writing! I've stated this before but C.P. Harris has a gift. Their writing is amazing and keeps you riveted, making it hard to put their book down. One more chapter ends up being ten more in my case.
Also I'm curious to know what is happening with Leland and Franklin!? What is their history? What is their story!? I love the best friend's father trope so I absolutely can't wait for their book.
Finally, don't let the cheating stop you from picking up this amazing story. I normally do not read romance with cheating but I learned over time that if it's not between the MCs and their love story is compelling enough I can. These two were meant to be together no matter what, and despite Jasper being married, you will soon learn things aren't what they seem. So I would say give it a chance if cheating is not what you normally read.
"Lies may have brought us back together, but love would keep us bound."
Overall this was another wonderful story from C.P. Harris. If you enjoy possessive/jealous MCs, step brothers to lovers, second chances, light kink, and high steam, I can't recommend The Good Liar enough!...more
“No matter where life takes us, or where we move to, we will always be our homes. Nothing will matter as long as we’re together.”
A Home in You was a “No matter where life takes us, or where we move to, we will always be our homes. Nothing will matter as long as we’re together.”
A Home in You was a sweet and emotional ride. We have Cade and Dillon, two boys who become brothers when their families blend. Cade grew up with a single father who was on the road a lot and a grandmother who would neglect him. He has attachment issues and insecurities. Dillion is introverted and quiet. He's not shy but enjoys his time alone, helping his mother on their farm while working on his art.
These two boys meet as young teens, and seeing their relationship evolve from brothers to best friends to soulmates was amazing! This is a story of young love, but it is not all happiness, as they have to deal with not only homophobia but the stigma of being stepbrothers. Their love is taboo, and they know if they are caught, others won't accept it, and they'll be separated.
I loved how Dillon was so caring and understanding of Cade's insecurities, always ready to reassure him and slowly build his confidence. Cade also pulled Dillon from his head, allowing him to open up more. These two boys were honestly made for one another. I enjoyed how they wanted to be with one another, their closeness, and the constant need to be in one another's orbit.
"Dillon saved me from loneliness and fears of abandonment. He never wavered in his feelings for me and always kept his promises. For once in my life, I felt confident in myself because I trusted him more than I’d trusted anyone else."
"He leaned in and pressed his lips to mine, and all my anxiety spilled out of me. I sighed into his mouth, feeling like myself again. This kiss proved that Cade was my home. I’d always be broken, lost, and empty without him."
There was lots of angst and moments when my heart broke for these sweet boys. They had a rough path to their happy ever after. The way I wanted to smack Cade's father. He was just a horrid man. However, I adored Dillon's mother! She was always there for her son and Cade. She never judged, just accepted and loved them for they were. The other side characters were also wonderful! Adored Darran, Christian, and Raven! I would especially love to see Darran and Christian's story!
This story has consensual teen sex. Teenagers have sex; that is a reality. Courtney W. Dixon did an amazing job writing those scenes. We see how much these two boys care for and love one another as they explore their sexuality. I also liked seeing demisexuality represented in the story! I think the author did a great job at handling that topic.
Overall this was a wonderful and sweet read. If you enjoy stories about coming of age, young love, small town romance, mutual pining, demisexuality, hurt/comfort, codependency, step brothers, and angst, I recommend this book!...more

Be M “I love you…. Fuck, I love you so goddamn much Bailey. If you ever left me I’d have to hunt you down and rip you to pieces with my bare hands.”
Be Mine, Bloody Valentine was an intense, over the top, violent and wild read.
Bailey finds Alec, his stepbrother, after being left behind, living a seemingly perfect life working as a professor. However, he knows that it is all facade, that he leads a double life and wants to ruin him for leaving him behind with their monster of a father.
Alec has attempted to leave behind his past, but as he brings men who resemble his brother down to his basement and takes their lives, he knows that he hasn’t fully moved on. Especially when said brother appears before him. As much as he wants to eliminate him so he can continue to live his life free of his past, he can not bring himself to.
Bailey, as much as he wants to get back at his brother for leaving him behind, truly wants his attention to be cared for and is acting out of hurt.
"If I had my wish, we would sit around kissing all day and night until our lips were swollen. Once we couldn’t do it anymore, Alec would fuck me until I cried, and I would cling to him the whole time, never wanting to let him go."
"My heart felt so full. For the first time in ages, I wasn’t a half-empty shell walking around with no purpose. I had a reason to be alive. First, to kill Adam. Second, to love Alec. That was all the purpose I needed."
These two are depraved, unhinged, and so violent. Yes, due to their past trauma and their father being a psychotic serial killer played a role in how they turned it out, BUT what they do to innocent people…well, no excuses for that.
I enjoyed how crazy obsessed Bailey was towards Alec. He feels betrayed by him as he left him with their father but he comes to understand his actions, and Alec ends up feeling guilty. They love one another, and honestly, they are perfect together.
"A shudder wracked through my body. Did that mean he would get pleasure from killing me? Or would he end my life and continue to enjoy every inch of me? For some reason, both ideas sent tingles of ecstasy coursing through me."
“You’re mine....All mine now. I’ll keep you safe.” My heart hammered in my chest. “Say it again,” I begged. Alec ripped my pants down my thighs. “I’ll keep you safe,” he said. “Because you belong to me.”
Is this over the top, unrealistic, and requires the need to suspend belief? Yes. But did I eat it up? Also yes.
When I first learned about this multi-author series I lost my mind. I was super excited and Be Mine, Bloody Valentine was everything and more than I expected. Overall this was a great dark valentine read. If you enjoy twisted, dark, violent bloody obsessive stories I recommend it.
Please heed the TWs as this story is very dark and violent....more

Dirty Love was an insane ride from the first chapter. It was intense, amazing, and just so crazy. I loved it.
Kade and Nicky were raised as brothers from the age of three. However, while their blended family appeared picture-perfect on the outside, they were enduring years of abuse and torment from their father, a well-respected police officer in their small homophobic town.
Kade watches over and protects Nicky, especially knowing what could happen to him if people found out he was gay.
This story was wild; honestly, I could not put it down. It was violent and over the top, but the love and obsession between the brothers was just perfect. I’m not going to lie, I liked the fact they still referred to each other as brothers despite their relationship becoming sexual and romantic.
I enjoy stories with fierce, possessive and protective lovers, and this was *chef kiss*. Like, “Touch him, and you die” - but literally, for real, you will die.
The sex! Was there a lot? Yes, but I loved it. I’m an erotica/smut reader, so I enjoyed all the moments, and it was honestly never too much. I would be happy with 30 more pages of it. I love how dirty, sexy, sensual, and hot it was. The way Nicky craved to submit and please Kade while being bratty was cute. I love their dynamic.
Kade and Nicky’s relationship was unhealthy, intense and addictive. I loved that they finally got their hard-earned HEA and that just desserts were handed out.
Overall I loved it. I’m so happy that I read Dirty Love because it had many elements I love in MM. This is my first book by Bethany Winters and definitely not my last!...more

My review is going to be kinda all over the place but I absolutely LOVED and enjoyed For the Fans! Safe to say it's my favourite book by Nyla K to date!
We have two boys who could not be any different—coming from different backgrounds, socioeconomically, religious upbringing, and ethnically. They are total opposites, with one being into Arts and the other the all-American star quarterback! However, their lives soon become intertwined as their families blend, and they become stepbrothers. Soon though, due to financial hardship, the two boys realize they need to work together to ensure they can pay their tuition and not burden their families. All for the Fans, right?
Kyran and Avi were at each other throats from day one! While Avi tried to make peace and accept his stepbrother, Kyran felt as if he had been replaced, left behind by his mother and sister to a father who does not truly see him…ugh, my heart. He is all needles and hate because of all the hurt he carries. Thus they genuinely become enemies! Constant conflict with one another for years. Nyla did a great job at writing a true enemies-to-lovers story!
I love how, no matter how much he pushed and hurled insults at Avi, Avi is always there when he comes back because he knew deep down that Kyran was using anger to cope. Yes, he blows hot and cold to the extreme, but he is battling his own demons and trauma. Sadly lashing out at Avi is a defence mechanism. He envies him yet desires him, which is a lot for Kyran to handle.
Now the steamy stuff because this book is hands down the best OF/Cam story I have read this year! I have read two other books, and I can confidently say Nyla nailed it! It was everything I wanted and more! Goodness. This book was so sexy and filthy. I loved how Kyran got sexually comfortable and open with Avi and just let go with him. The vulnerability was there, and I love how no matter how angry Avi got with him, he never pushed him or made him feel ashamed for wanting what he did.
I loved how it went from just sex to more between them. It became emotional, and at times as much as they wanted to think - or rather Kyan - that it was just for the fans, it wasn’t! I especially loved the moments between them without the filming! The banter between them, the moments when they can just be who they were with one another. I feel like they made major advancements in their relationship romantically in those moments. I don’t want to spoil too much regarding Kyran’s past but my heart breaks for him and I’m so happy that Avi is there to love and treasure him.
"Being with Avi… being close to him, seeing and feeling and breathing with him, all those things we did together… it’s what set me free. He was the shovel, slowly scooping away the debris to uncover the real Kyran from where he’d been buried alive."
The dirty talk!! I loved it so much! I also loved how Kyran NEEDED Avi to praise him and shower him with compliments. I know it comes from feelings of inadequacy and due to his past, but he came alive whenever Avi was there to feed his praise kink. Also the pet names~ I loved it!
This a story focused on caming/OF, so there is a lot of sex, but I felt that it did not feel boring or repetitive at all. Nyla really can write some of the steamiest and hottest sex scenes. I love stories with lots of sex, and this delivered for me. I loved how they slowly started seeing each other as people, friends and then lovers. They connect through sex but it leads to more.
"I want you with the real Kyran, baby. Because the real Kyran fell so hard in love with you, Avi Vega. You got me here. You're my angel…"
My only issues would be the (view spoiler)[ MFM scene. Not a fan of MMF/MFM at all. However, it was brief and it can be skipped if it makes you uncomfortable as well (hide spoiler)]
Overall this was a fantastic read! I can't recommend this book enough!! It's a long book but wish it was longer. I want more of these boys. If you have triggers please check the Nyla's site as she lists them for this book. If you have none go in blind.
If you love Nyla's stories, Step brothers, enemies to lovers, found family, Grumpy/Sunshine, Sexual awakening, opposites, high steam, and college settings you will enjoy For the Fans!...more

Head Above Water was a heartbreaking "It doesn't matter that he is a man or we were raised as family. The only thing that matters is that he's...him"
Head Above Water was a heartbreaking and angst-filled ride.
The story follows two step brothers who face grief and heartbreak. They reunite after seven years due to a tragic accident, and unresolved feelings, hurt, and resentment boil over as they deal with the aftermath. I loved how emotional and raw the story was. Despite Cannon's resentment and hostility, Easton has always looked up to and adored his brother. That adoration soon morphed into attraction as they grew older.
"I might still be drowning, but not only in grief anymore. I'm drowning in him. His taste, his touch, his scent"
I enjoyed seeing how they changed and grew over time. Cannon is strong and so caring. I loved how he was there for Easton, knowing he had to be strong for both of them.
Grief brought them together; despite the circumstances, they needed one another to stay afloat. The chemistry between them was phenomenal, and goodness, can CE write sex scenes!
I never used to read stories with cheating but I learned this year if it's not between the MCs and their romance is compelling enough I do not mind it, which was the case for this story!
Overall I loved it so much. This was an angsty and heavy read, but CE Ricci managed to keep me captivated until the end. I love their writing style. I also loved the bi-awakening aspect and the obsessive codependence that is mixed in with their love for one another. I don't know why it took me so long to pick this story up finally, but I am happy I did. I can not wait to read more for this author....more

I liked how we get to seeStrictly Curious is a cute low-angst stepbrother to lovers story! It is a sweet story of sexual discovery between two teens. I liked how we get to see their lives from when they first met at 10 to the present at 19.
We have Garrett, who has had very non-brotherly love towards his new stepbrother Tyler for a long time. In order to not lose the closeness they have, he has kept not only his unbrotherly love but his sexuality from Tyler. However, things change when Tyler catches Garrett in a compromising situation.
This was a cute sexual discovery story between two teenagers (19) as they entered adulthood. I always enjoy a virgin MC, and I liked how Garrett took it slowly with Tyler. I enjoyed the intimate moments, the touching, sleeping together and cuddling! The sex was hot as well!
While the topic is taboo, the book did not feel like it was. While there were some issues of them getting together via their parents, friends and other conflicts, it was resolved relatively quickly without too much drama. There were no moments of "we should not be together; let's break up", which I am thankful for.
I would say most of the angst and issues come from being outed rather than the stepbrother aspect.
An issue I had was Garrett outing his own brother. He kept his sexuality a secret from him, which is fair enough. Yet, he had no problems outing his brother to people he never even knew. It doesn't matter if they're your friends or are also queer. Never out them before they are ready, and do not take away their agency to control who they want to come out to. The story addresses this, but I felt bad for Tyler.
Overall it was a cute easy read. If you like low-angst stepbrothers to lovers story you'll enjoy this story!

Barred Desire is the story of Luca and Branson, two step-brothers who both have traumatic pasts. Luca has dealt with childhood sexual assault and Branson abuse from a drug-addicted father. They have both also dealt with the loss of a parent.
They have a close relationship as brothers but get strained as feelings shift from brotherly to romantic. It was an overall emotional and well-written story. I loved the bi-awakening aspect for Lucas and how he did not have a 'freak out' with his step-brother. I loved their chemistry, and you can feel the love they have for each other is so deep. I adored how Branson was there to comfort Luca in his time of need and vice versa. The sexual chemistry between these two is wow. Ashely James did an amazing job with the sex scenes. They were romantic, tender, flirty and just plain sexy. (view spoiler)[ I love the whole spitting cum in each other mouth kink, so I really enjoyed it. (hide spoiler)]
There were a few things I did find issues with.
How Luca's traumatic childhood was or was not handled is an issue. I feel like Luca has a lot of unresolved trauma, but it is never really addressed once we learn about it. I also think that the fact Luca's father never finds out what happened to him is odd. The man who sexually abused him still runs in the same circle, and while he did moved away, his father still views Luca's abuser as a family friend. It would have been a powerful healing moment or a step towards healing by confiding in his father.
I love step-brother romances, and one of the aspects I love about it is the taboo nature of it. Their relationship did not feel like it was taboo. Mainly because of how accepting their family and friends were. There was no conflict or tension surrounding their relationship…. just acceptance. Also Luca's sexuality isn't really addressed either.
Also, I would say another aspect (and this might turn away readers) is the nickname Branson uses to refer to Luca's girlfriend and the reaction Luca has. The whole girlfriend issue was also very one dimensional. She was an easy villian.
Overall, I did enjoyed Barred Desire and am excited to read Knox and Aston's story! 3.5 round up to 4. I think this was a good debut work from Ashley James....more
