Overall, I enjoyed An Inconvenient Beauty. I grew a bit weary of the focus on Isabella's beauty though.

Jacob is a successful author that grew up with a distant and mentally ill mother. The scars from his childhood are brought to the surface when his mother passes away. Watching him go through the healing process was rewarding. I loved the sprinkling of humor added through Jacob's dry sense of humor.
The final pages of the novel were so heartwarming.
On the plausibility scale...are literary agents really calling their star authors so frequently? Yikes, seemed invasive much of the time. Also, part of the travel section rang as unrealistic, but I moved past that and enjoyed the journey.
I eagerly await the release of the next in the series coming November 2018....more

It was a bit shocking for most of this Montana Rescue story to take place in the Gulf of Mexico. Shocking, but the reason for Ian and Sierra being out on a yacht in ocean waters made sense. Their story is filled with action and some tense moments. The ending was fabulous.
Now...can we PLEASE get an HEA for Jess and Pete?

I've read both Fiction and Non-Fiction books about North Korea which has provided me a pretty good background about what life is like there. What I didn't know until reading this memoir is nearly 80,000 Japanese moved to North Korea after WWII. They were told North Korea was a land of paradise. The author was born in Japan and moved to North Korea in 1960 when he was 13 years old. He lived there for 36 years. It is truly astounding that so many moved their families to North Korea. The details the author shared about his life in North Korea was heart breaking. I've read about the famine of the mid 90s, however the author shared details I had not previously heard.
This memoir was incredibly interesting and I highly recommend it for anyone wanting a better understanding of what life is like in North Korea. The memoir is available as a Kindle First offer to Amazon Prime members in December 2017. The book releases in January.
There is some foul language and disturbing details in the pages....more

While living in her home state of CaliWhat a sweet Christmas novella! I've read several Melody Carlson Christmas novellas and this may be my favorite.
While living in her home state of California, Amelia Richards finds that she and her young son are barely getting by. She takes a risk and uses her meager funds to travel by train to Montana to the hometown of her son's paternal grandparents.
I loved the pure love of a mother shown by Amelia as well as the time period references such as Lindbergh's stolen child and the introduction of penicillin.
Another well done Christmas story by author Melody Carlson.

She is independent, confident, warm, courageous and funny. Trudi made the book for me.
The two other main characters were The Mute and Annabel. The Mute was an admirable man. While I liked Annabel, some of the chapters in which the story is told from her point of view were a little flat. I would be remiss if I didn't give credit to the German Shepard. This four legged creature is a huge part of the novel.
The suspense scenes were well done and definitely kept my interest. The secret code in the newspaper was interesting and I wonder if the history shared was factual.
The author's note at the end of the novel about how Annabel Lee came to be reality was inspiring and a little bit comical.
I look forward to reading the next in the series....more

Tamera Alexander is a master storyteller and does a nice job of blending in historical detail in her novels.
In 1863 times are difficult for all in Franklin, Tennessee and even more so for a widow that loses her job. Aletta Prescott is concerned about her ability to keep her home and provide food for her son. She is a lovely example of not feeling defeated and trusting God to show a path to an answer to prayers.
Most of all this novella whet my appetite for her new series to begin in 2018. My favorite character was Tempy, the cook at Carnton, who was based on the actual cook at Carnton during the time period.

The story is told through the point of view of Ishma, a Fictional character. Through Ishma's eyes readers experience life in 732 BC Judah. I especially enjoyed the reference to birds throughout the novel to illustrate Ishma's feelings.
The story is told over the span of many years allowing readers to see the character growth of Hezekiah, Ishma and others. A favorite Fictional character in the novel was Yaira. She was Ishma's caregiver and had such a servant's heart.

This novel was nominated for a Carol Award a couple of years ago and I delight in finding new authors.
Last Family Standing is about a reality television show, but is quite a bit more. Main character Monica gave up her daughter for adoption and her 25 year old daughter has invited her to be a contestant with her on a show called Last Family Standing. It's about their growth, but also about the dynamics between all of the contestants.
It was a good contemporary novel and I'd read other books by the author....more

Moses returns to Goshen after spending 40 years away. He returns with a message from Yahweh and Miriam is more than a little jealous and angry about no longer having visions from God.
I loved that the author painted a picture easy to visualize of what life was like for Hebrews during this time period. As for characters, Miriam's nephew Eleazar was one of my favorites. I also adored Sattar, Moses' faithful dog that loved Miriam as well.
I did grow weary of Miriam's attitude and behavior. While it was perhaps portrayed realistically, I would have liked to have seen her adapt to her new place in God's will more quickly. And wouldn't we all like to adapt more quickly to God's will for us?
Overall, I enjoyed the novel and look forward to reading others by the author.

JSweetbriar Cottage provided a feeling similar to the movie Sweet Home Alabama, however, the main female character's past was much deeper and darker. Josephine lost her mother just prior to her teen years and was raised by her step father. She grew up not having much faith in men or women. Her story was a sad story and the impact in adulthood came across as plausible.
