I guess I should've checked the reviews before I started, because it's actually a spin-off of the Chronicles of Elantra and is like #18 or so in that series. All that being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and thought Raven was a fascinating character. But I know I missed a lot of the political background. I will go back to the earlier series and maybe return to this after I've read it....more

It's quiet and quirky, and I liked that about it. But it's also rambling, and introduces characters, delves deeply into them, and then drops them before any sort of resolution. And yes, that does happen in real life in AirBnB situations, but it shouldn't be happening in a novel. It's also tagged as a 'romance,' and although the tag isn't the fault of the author, it certainly doesn't apply here. The resolution was rushed, lame, and wishy-washy. Definitely not romantic!...more

I enjoyed this debut novel, but wished there had been a bit more editing to add focus. It's marketed as (and sometimes tries to be) a rom-com, but really wants to be women's fiction/family drama. I think it would've been stronger with some of the extraneous detail removed.

She seemed to just react to everything around her: her sister's death & running the business, her misunderstanding with Levi in HS, Griffin's wish for extreme travel, and so on. She really didn't have a personality of her own. It does get resolved a bit towards the end, but I was still left with feeling that she wasn't a solid character, especially as the MC....more
