First we have Chloe, who is a very simple American girl who just happens to speak a zillion languages, and then we have Bastien, who is part of the Committee to take out illegal arms dealers. Very, very unfortunate when Chloe is targeted for termination. Even more unfortunate when cold, unfeeling Bastien with his heart covered in a slick coat of black ice (hence the title) finds that he just can't let Chloe go. Lots of action. Lots of suspense. Lots of high-charged emotion. Very good thriller and I would recommend to anyone that likes a good thriller in their reading!...more

You really do need to read the first book in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the second one; however, if it's been a while since you read the first one (like me) or you just like to read out of order, the author does a spectacular job in providing a recap of what happened with Jake and Ben and Gabe in the first book so you have a good idea of what's going on, even if it takes a bit to get there. The setting, as with all of Ms. Braemel's books, is spot-on. It's the tiny attention to detail that really makes you wonder if the author has actually lived in Texas, from the food that is eaten to way the houses are built to the descriptions of the scenery. It's a true Texan cowboy setting without being all "aw, shucks, ma'am" and corny cowboy romance.
Paige is by far my favorite part of this book. It has been a long time since I read a book with a strong female lead that I liked as much...where I felt like I would truly like her as a person if I met her. She actually reminds me of a friend of mine with her tipped hair, piercings and stylish clothing, but her ability to meet a challenge head-on and rise above it, no matter what, was amazing and I loved how she knew just the way to handle Jake without creating drama.
However, that being said, this is Jake's story. This book starts with Jake and ends with Jake. He goes through a lot during the story in finding out who he is both literally and figuratively and there is a lot that happens between him and the people in his lives. There is so much depth to him and so much love inside him to give to his family and to Paige. It's wonderful to read.
The story is full of twists and turns that weave together to create a truly awesome story which will have you tapping your e-reader faster and faster to find out what happens next. The developing relationship between Jake and Paige is really romantic, sweet and HOT. I marked this both erotica and vanilla romance because of the detail that goes into the sex scenes even though it is pretty vanilla sex, but when done right like this one was, there's nothing wrong with a classic vanilla!
The bottom line is that this is a great book and if you like Ms. Braemel's writing style and liked Slow Ride Home, you will greatly enjoy this one as well. If you live in Texas, you will love all the little details that are put in that will remind you of all the things that make our great state GREAT. The only thing that I felt was lacking was a little cleaner editing job as I spotted a lot of punctuation and syntax errors, but it's not glaring enough that it's distracting.

I also for the life of me could not remember the back story with Axel and Izzy, Izzy and Greg, Maddox and Emmy, or Dee and Beck...and the author didn't bother to give a recap to help out either. There were a significant number of editing errors, some flow problems and big chunks of time that were touched on but for the most part just skipped. It felt choppy. However, it was entertaining and I was able to read it in a few hours, but I think it could have been and should have been done better to garner a higher rating in my opinion. ...more

However, the one thing I have noticed with her books is that they are either hit or miss when it comes to the plot. This one...was a miss because it was just really pretty predictable when it came down to it and after you get past the weak plot, all that is left is the sex and the budding relationship between Serena and Kevin. Now, was that interesting? HELL. TO. THE. YES. The description of the Louisiana bayou was really great, the interspersing of the French as Kevin talked dirty to Serena was sexy as all get-out, and the descriptions of Kevin as a whole were just absolutely delicious. The balance of control that the two of them had as they merged together into a couple was very delicate and the author described that balance perfectly. I just would have liked a little more complexity to the plot involving her stalker, and honestly, there were parts of Serena's character that bugged me. Really, you carry on conversations with your stalker!? STUPID! I did get a rough copy so there was a paragraph (the one at the very end) that I think was out of place, but it just kind of left the ending a little unsettled for me. However, did I mention how great the sex scenes were? Very good, very creative, and very sizzling, although I did notice that every orgasm that both characters seemed to have was the most intensive, the most explosive and the hardest one that they ever had. A little repetitive. As a whole, this was a solid story, very enjoyable, very erotic, and very suspenseful. I enjoy this author very much. It's quite a roller coaster of emotions, and to watch Alayna's character experience it in the last installment of this trilogy is absolutely heart-wrenching. I admit it, I cried at several points in this book because the expression of her pain was just so real. Her character really resonated with me quite a bit. It's truly an amazing story of pain and loss and coping and deep love and testing the bonds as well as the depth of pain and betrayal that a couple will experience together. ...more

I will admit that I have a penchant for Hispanic characters, so the cover did catch my eye, but this book was just freaking HOT from beginning to end. And it had a great plot! I'm starting to get over my reaction to General Grange Lee's name (anyone else having a hard time getting the car from the Dukes of Hazzard out of their mind?) and starting to adjust to the whole set-up of the Wild Riders. We first meet Jessie in Riding Wild when Mac and Lily run into her at a rally, and she is quite charming then, but in this book when she gets her first assignment after approximately eight years of tutelage under General Lee's watchful protective eyes, it's really something to watch. It's no wonder that Diaz falls in love with her...she is confident, sexy, smart, brave, and not afraid to admit when she needs something or someone. It was just quite a story to watch Diaz and Jessie fall in love and to watch their relationship develop amidst the backdrop of the assignment that they are working on with Spence, which is spelled out very well and not confusing at all. And the heat factor is pretty amazing...loved loved loved when Jessie gave up her v-card to Diaz. Sigh. I can't wait to read the next story with Spence....more

This book is a really fun hot read that is great for the holidays but also if you just want a quick Scottish romance without a ton of history or paranormal fairy legends or time travel thrown in. If the author hadn't made it clear that Aileen and Niall had known each other for a long, long time, I probably would have had a very hard time going with the flow and accepting that they felt so intensely about each other, but the setup of their romance and relationship and incredible chemistry was perfect. There was a good amount of action in the book to be consistent with other Scottish Highlander romances. I would have loved to have seen a little more descriptions of the scenery since that is what I enjoy the most about books set in Scotland, but overall this was a fun sexy read that I enjoyed a lot....more

It has to be one of the most intense rape scenes I've ever read on paper...complete with what the female is feeling during it...so if that bothers you, just be warned. To me, it was incredible writing for a very tough subject matter. However, I really enjoyed this one a lot, there was no interference or set-ups, and Sandy and Troy make a fabulous couple. I agree that the way that Ash talks is annoying, considering his background, but hey, it's fiction, just go with it. It reminded me a bit of The Art of Domination with the erotic painting, but it really did seem to fit this eclectic group and the story being set in New York City. I love how all the girls band together into one group and have girls' night out. You rarely ever see that in these D/s books because the guys don't want to be separated from their ladies, but it was a nice refreshing touch for sure, even if they were babysat the entire time. Ha. I'm glad that the loose end introduced in the beginning was wrapped up in this book...and very glad that she DID address the weirdorama fact that Bethany and Charles share the same last name. I kept waiting for the shoe to drop on that one. But it was really good...very different...and I enjoyed reading it. Like the other two, it kept me up all night reading it....more
