Through lots of trial and error Roz learns how to live as a robot in the wild but struggles with making friends. She is a robot. Robots don't normally need to make friends. Through a series of unfortunate events, Roz becomes the adoptive mother of a baby goose. This accident, turns Roz's whole world around, learning how to make friends, become a mother, and build a community. The big question remains though; what will happen when Roz's makers come looking for her?
A fun, heartfelt chapter book about becoming your true self and creating your own community. I enjoyed the simplicity of this story along with the way that it was told. The intermittent illustrations were sweet and a fun way to add to the story. I love the idea that a robot can become such a "humanistic" character and fight for the family that it believes in.

The bear doesn't react to Arthur the way you'd expect a bear to react to an intruder, but the boy and the bear share a special connection. Because he can calm the bear so easily, Arthur is tasked with accompanying the bear from Norway to England as the bear is a gift from one king to another. The journey is perilous and Arthur's freedom rests in his ability to keep the bear alive until they reach the king. The story was filled with adventure and based on true(ish) events. Although I enjoyed the book, I couldn't help but feel sad about the bear in captivity. I guess the history of man's exploitation of exotic animals goes way back....more

It is brilliant to have this story told in the form of a legend, passed down from one generation to the next. Very well written and definitely worth the time to read, this story is a great allegory for our own past, and possibly, future. I found the first half to be pretty slow going and the second half to be pretty spectacular. Donna Barba Higuera weaves in the beliefs of the Hispanic populations with such beauty and originality that it is a pleasure to behold.
For those who find Spanish completely foreign, there are some bits that may be more difficult to understand, as they are in Spanish. You can infer meaning or use a quick translator to help you out. I personally love the mixed in Spanish. It fits with the characters and narrative so well.

I read this book in Spanish with Spanish being my second language. I use books to practice my Spanish and this was great for that! I was able to follow the story easily but really the illustrations are where this book shines. The concept is fun and my daughter looked through it and was able to enjoy it as well!

Coyote and her dad, Rodeo, are on a new adventure in their bus. A lot has been changing in their world. Coyote now goes to a public school and struggles to make friends, Rodeo has a new (girl?) friend, and now the world is changing around them due to the Corona Virus. With an old friend and some new ones, they take to the road on a mission to bury Coyote's mom's cremains. As you can guess, there are lots of twists, turns, and high emotions as the story unfolds.
This book hit me in the feels and had some tears rolling down my face. I could feel the love all around Coyote and I found that to be the most touching and unexpected surprise from this book. It isn't often that a book can inject those feelings directly into your heart, so you know it is special when it does. The audiobook narrator is the same as the first books and just does a really amazing job conveying everything in the book.
