The angst was top-notch, too. I was practically eating popcorn, waiting for the drama. I especially loved the part of the heroine being abused by her psycho of a brother. But the ending? Meh. Felt like a wet noodle compared to the rest of the story. Also, the bad guy? Basically a ghost. Where'd they go?
Overall, a fun read. Just don’t expect a mind-blowing conclusion....more

The heroine in this story has been dealt with the worst set of cards; her parent passed away when she was a very young girl, her grandmother passed away when she was in college, resulting in her having to quit college in order to pay for her grandfather's care. Her grandfather had dementia. And on top of these, she was betrayed badly by the Hero. He continued to treat her like a doormat, behaving like a spoilt boy who couldn't get his ice cream. It's ridiculous rooting for such a man. I loathed him.
The heroine, on the other hand, doesn't deserve to be paired with such a low leech of a person. Just because he's rich and good looking, doesn't grant him the rights to treat people abhorrently, like the heroine is beneath him.
I don't comprehend how this installment has a higher rating than the rest of the Lasker boys. It's not worth it. The heroine should have left and met with a gentleman who treats her right. The Hero should be shot in the balls. ...more

It had one of the most gripping beginning I'd ever read. Loved how the Hero detested the heroine and only married her to make her grandfather happy. The heroine, on the other hand, was head over heels in love with her husband. Unbeknownst to her, she'd married someone as cold as ice. The truth was only revealed after the wedding ceremony.

Leonie was forced to wed the big, horrifying "Black Wolfe". She was literally beaten to a pulp - finally admitted her acceptance to the wedding. There were lots of antagonists in this book which kept it very entertaining. The presence of Ralfe's mistress - having the same privilege as lady of the keep as her, grated on her and hurt her immensely. Worse, Ralfe thought his wife did not know about it for he claimed Amelia - his mistress - was just his ward. Leonie, who had her own pride, did not wish to come across as the jealous wife therefore she never made a scene about the other woman. The constant misunderstandings between the married couple was both frustrating but entertaining to read. It kept me reading and wanting to find out what's next, what's next. I applaud Ms. Lindsey for having these entertaining schemes. Straight forward nose dive to happy endings were never my cup of tea. I love some angst, some misgivings, some misconceptions that had to be resolved. I love alpha Heroes like Ralfe but he was so dense and I dropped a star due to him condoning having a mistress and (view spoiler)[for sleeping with Leonie after he was married when he did not recognize her as his wife and thought she was just a servant girl. That's cheating! I hated him even more when he laughed it off - after finding out that he was in fact, sleeping with his wife. (hide spoiler)]

Little did she know it was all the works of her said auntie and uncle. They kidnapped her baby and delivered her to the baby's father. (hide spoiler)] Hero had been holding a grudge and wanted to extract revenge towards the heroine for he believed she abandoned her daughter on purpose.
As I said, I enjoyed the story very much. The characters were all very real and true. However, I'm not into bdsm therefore couldn't give a higher rating as this book contains a lot of those scenes. Furthermore, I felt grossed out reading about the many sexual acts Hero forced heroine into - I felt it should be degrading and that she should've stood up for herself instead of enjoying them, so ... no stars for these. In fact, I felt cringy reading these scenes. I thought the heroine should have give the Hero some harder times for treating her that way. ...more

I thought it would add a nice 'complication' to the whole story. I felt that such a detrimental bump of her life (two agonizing years) should be highlighted more. It appeared as if the whole debacle was swiped under the rug, just like that. The other thing that I never appreciate was when Heroes knowingly crossed the line by kissing the other woman for the sake of making the heroine jealous. It was hard to accept and admire such Heroes and this one did just that; knew fully the heroine was hiding in the library and could hear everything he and his former mistress said and did. Lastly, he needed to grovel more. Heroine was badly beaten and bruised and she almost got raped - for goodness sake - but all those nasty things seemed to also appear conveniently ignored. I mean, she's a female and having had to go through all those hell should be a big deal. The author made it seem as if she just took a fall whereas everyone - especially the Hero - should feel extreme remorse and guilt for what happened to the heroine. But did it happen? No, he ignorantly only apologized and voila, all's forgiven. Dang. If I were the heroine, I would make him crawl - sing and dance - and essentially, grovel more. So, even though I finished this book in a day - and I loved the plot - some things could be made better. ...more

I never go for goofy Heroes, ie: when he joked around with the heroine with the alliterarions and all that bullsh**, made me cringe. Literally. I go for gruff and alpha Heroes, not those that joke around like that. Secondly, I get that the heroine was on her last buck making ends meet but come on, nothing in her bank accounts??? That's just plain stupid. One should always have some back up cash - for emergency purposes. So fact that she was held in jail overnight because she couldn't pay for her meals at a fancy restaurant (only $200 for *uck sake) was a little bit stretching it for me. Aka stupid. (Sorry, had to be said). It's not honest, poor you - boo hoo. No, it's plain dumb. Period.

Plot - wise = loved it.
Characters = adored both Hero and heroine. Tall, dark, handsome with a whole lot of enigma. Beautiful, gorgeous with a tough exterior but a compassionate heart.
Supporting characters = all good.
Execution = Not so perfect.
Let me tell you why it was not so great: there was not much depth in the story. I felt that the couple's relationship centered solely around their physical attraction and lust (although way better than Grey and Livia's as well as Ash and Alyse's). I wanted more. I craved for more. The whole book did not satisfy me with the oomph I was looking for. The elements of this becoming a great book were all present, just not enough. Not enough angst. Not enough substance to make it an awesome book one couldn't afford to put down. The (view spoiler)[reveal about Addy's older sister being the ow of Luke's father (supposedly, or so he assumed) was a bit over the top, I think. The heroine - oh, I just adored gorgeous, beautiful and smart heroines with hearts of gold. This one definitely fit the bill. The story was engaging from the beginning until the very last page.
