TJR is just an incredible writer, these songs she wrote, this story she wrote, everything about this book is just beyond anything I could put in a review for all the feels I have. I was surprised at the lack of romance, or the very small amount of it. I don't care. I loved Harper, I loved Rhen. I loved Grey.
I didn't love how it was a bit of a cliffhanger ending... a very soft cliffhanger though. I was happy to see there will be a sequel coming out... in a YEAR. I pretty much read this in one day and I am so sad its over and feeling the book hangover right now. It's been awhile since I've gotten so completely wrapped up in a book. ...more

Man o man. Lemme just say that I started this book Saturday morning and did not go to bed until I finished it... yes all 699 pages!
This wrapped up the trilogy perfectly, I obviously couldn't put it down. The layers of the plot that the author pulled together was again inspiring- she is a master.
I think the only thing that I was missing was my favorite character interactions. This was such an action driven story and there were so many elements in play that I just missed my court of dreams just being them and doin their thing.
CANNOT wait for the 3 spin-off novels. I don't know who's story I am most excited for... maybe Nesta and Cassian? <-- and that BETTER be one of the novels that will be coming.
I enjoyed being sucked into this world for the last week, but thank God I can have my life back now!...more

I finished this at about 5am while suffering from an intense bout of insomnia (thank you night shift). I was laying in bed while my husband was snoring and the last half of this book had almost constant tears coming out of my eyes. I will need to change my pillowcase before I go to bed again.
The story was beautiful. Every emotion was evoked. There were moments that it felt a little slow, but I LOVED it.
More important than the actual content of the story was the writing. Holy shit. I forgot. I forgot what it was like to actually read something where the words were beautiful. I cannot rave enough about how I was swept away by this. It is a fucking masterpiece.

This book was my teenage years. In fact I freaked out a bit a few times, it was like this author got into my brain and pulled specific memories out and wrote them for the whole world to read. I wonder if other women have read this and thought the same thing?
It reminded my so much of my high school bff. The first person pov is told by Catherine. I am Catherine. Just a small town Michigan girl who was trying to find her place to belong, pulled into the whirlwind of a friend who seemed larger than life at points of time.
I don't want to share too much more, because I hope to use this book in my book club sometime soon. Also I don't want to share more because it would be like breaking open my heart and letting all the growing pains become alive again.

I found the names Cather and Wren adorable... mom couldn't come up with a second name when she found out she was having twins so she broke up Catherine? Love it.
Speaking of mom, I am so happy there wasn't some sort of phony redemption that happened with Laura (mom) and the girls. This whole story just felt so real to me. So glad I finally got around to it....more

I also really enjoyed that Shortcake was so clueless. Usually we have our lead females whining and moaning about being in love and chasing the guy. This attraction snuck right up on her, and how Josh finally admitted his love for her had me damn near swooning.
Great depth of character, both having flaws. I'm sure this will remain on my re-read stack for a long long time....more

Wow. I get the hype around this. I really was drawn into the story from the first chapter. The only reason I'm knocking a half star off is that it dragged a little bit in the end, and I felt like the conclusion with Donel was a little rushed.
I won't be commenting on the underage relationship since so many wonderful reviewers have already done this. I didn't feel like it was portrayed as creepy and perverted. As a child who grew up in not the most ideal situations myself, I know that at my own age 14 I already had the mindset that I still have now at age 32. It is unfortunate that many kids get their childhood robbed from them. Its not fair that all that hate/violence/abuse happens to them that matures them way too quickly. Its also not fair for those children who have learned tough life lessons at such a young age don't have a say in what direction their life should take. Each situation is different, and I just speak from my own history.
I loved what Wavy said to the Judge.
" I'm real. I'm as real as you are. My Family is real like your family"
Just because a family and a love doesn't look the same as yours, doesn't make it any less meaningful or powerful.
