Clearly, it didn't resonate with me or make me think very deeply. Looking back, I suppose the characters must have been rather shallow or they would have been more memorable.
And yes, I fully recognize the irony that I can't remember much about a book whose main character suffers from amnesia.
Such an interesting premise, but it fell short for me. Too bad. ...more

I'm not used to hearing so much swearing in a book, especially from characters who have such high vocabularies, although in this case I think it was emotionally warranted. This is one of the few cases where I think the movie actually does a really good job of depicting the book, and I might like the movie more -- but it's hard to say because I was able to read the thoughts of Hazel before seeing her on screen....more

However, reading this book did make me feel more compassionate to other jobs I had not considered. I was in an airplane when I read this, and I made sure to tip the shuttle driver who helped get us too and from our car, which I would not have even considered before. Her perspective was obviously very narrow, because she only tried each place for one month in each of three places, and even then only in the summer. It would certainly be interesting to read of someone who tried it for several months or a year, and without the car, but with familial support as most of her co-workers had....more
