I truly enjoyed them both due to the fact that one has really vivid pictures in mind while diving into this world full of secrets, mysteries, magic, betrayal and manipulation.
Regarding the characters, I definitely prefer Donatella to Scarlett (even though I thought this would not be possible because Tella deeply annoyed me in book 1, so I'm quite surprised). I think that was mainly the case because I didn't have to deal with Scarlett's incessant whining over her fiancé and her "oh so miserable fate" in a really dramatic way (like yes, her life wasn't rosy buttt she was just always kinda "over the top" when it came to that, next to constantly thinking that she's better than the rest of the people). Plus, I think the writing style has undergone some drastic improvements!
Additionally, I cannot not point out the "upgraded" and "pimped up" (in a good way) world building. Aside from the already known concept of the game (that, however, again, wasn't even similar to the one in "Caraval", which is a HUGE bonus), we receive a whole extra aspect. Namely, this second book called "Legendary" introduces a whole kind of mythological system. I was extremely intrigued because we suddenly got to know of some "even higher powers" or rather received a more wicked and picturesque storyline due to the introduction of so called "Fates" from certain magical cards called the "Deck of Destiny", who are oh so hideously powerful. Now those "Fates" are trying to break free from their imprisonment in the cards where they dwelled in for centuries and aspire to regain their lost power and glory. If you ask me, that sounds crazily captivating and terrifyingly mesmerising!

Well, kind of not really shocked / disappointed because it was an expected turn of events. It certainly seems like this was originally planned to be a trilogy. The story wraps up neatly at the end of the third book, and the fourth feels more like a stand-alone.
Nevertheless, I do believe that the TV series is worth watching!!!...more

NGL, the ending was kinda half-satisfying?! The closure wasn't really there and I believe this is just done on purpose for future volumes (or seasons NGL, the ending was kinda half-satisfying?! The closure wasn't really there and I believe this is just done on purpose for future volumes (or seasons even???) Not sure how big of a fan I am of that, especially since it's really unclear how it all will continue or if it will just stay an open-ish ending forever.
I mean Akihisa does write: "And hopefully Tsukune and Moka's story will continue on somewhere inside your heart...!" So now I am wondering if this is an actual "spoiler" or just a teaser. I guess the only way to find out is to wait, oh well.
Another thing I have to say is that I'm not sure which season I preferred... Season I or Season II, hm, the choice really isn't all that obvious for me. While I did enjoy the vulnerability, deeper connection and emotions of the characters, I kind of preferred the "good ol' days" when the characters were "just" high school students (view spoiler)[and Tsukune was still a human before all those crazy and confusing transformations (hide spoiler)]. I miss those "normal" shenanigans, tbh... Maybe I'm just also not a big fan of constant fighting for the last several volumes and "main bosses" being revealed continuously, ugh, I really don't know.
Also: (view spoiler)[Can we just talk about the fact that Alucard is LITERALLY Dracula spelled backwards. Not only is he spelled that way though... Because Alucard is the ACTUAL Dracula. My gosh, how could haven't noticed THAT? lmaooo *sobs* (hide spoiler)]...more
