Undercover is about a woman who (surprise surprise) goes undercover to help keep a ghoul (essentially a zombie) alive for a gangster type woman known as the Widower. And everyone has secrets layered on more secrets.
The story has a sort of 1920s vibe, but with sapphic zombies. I realize how cool that sounds, but it just felt like it wasn't quite hitting the mark. I'm not sure what wasn't working for me though. The writing was good, although there is a lot of like old-timey jargon so I found myself reading slower than usual. The plot felt a little... pointless maybe? The characters weren't really fleshed out (pun not intended). I don't know. I just wasn't feeling this one. I probably should have just read The Six Deaths of the Saint again. ...more

I mean, I can barely wrap my head around this as a reader, I don't know Chuck comes up with this stuff. Lars is a truck driver who meets a confident handsome living diner that he immediately wants to bone, even though he's straight and has a girlfriend.
The diner, Turk, has Lars running up to the roof to get his dick sucked, then running down to the basement to get fucked, then running to the back patio to...well... you get the idea. All the while there are other people sitting in this diner, eating and having conversations, which is just hilarious to me.

Marina Vivancos is so good at balancing really hot sex scenes with good character work, conflict and tension. This was another winner. I don't read omegaverse much, and there are some elements I really like (marking, scenting, possessiveness, etc.) and then there are other elements that I guess I don't like as much (omega anatomy). Even still, I enjoyed this a lot.
Leo is not your typical alpha. He's a little reserved, very sweet, and a little submissive. He's had a tough childhood and decides to become a sex worker after he turns 18. He mainly helps Omegas through their heats, but eventually Leo starts taking on other clients as well, including other alphas. Then he gets a call from a mated pair- Josh (Omega) and Damen (Alpha). Josh and Damen need another Alpha to help with Josh's heats which are super frequent and intense due to a condition that Josh has. It's all going great, except that there's all these unexpected FEELINGS.
As much as I love the sex worker trope, it can be tricky once the characters catch feelings. Does Leo quit his job? Does he keep sleeping with other people? Maybe it's just because I'm a Marina Vivancos Stan, but I think she handled this conundrum perfectly.
I loved these boys and I had a ton of fun with this. ...more

This was hilarious. Look, I'm ngl, the writing is rushed with lots of errors, the plot is ridiculous, and trying to visualize this made my head hurt a little, but, it was really really fun. Just absurd, and laugh out loud funny.
Also, I gotta be honest, I am biased because I saw Chuck Tingle in person yesterday, and he's amazing, and now I'm a buckaroo for a life so... ...more

I wanted to try out Chuck Tingle, and I felt this was the least embarrassing title to have on my kindle (besides Camp Damascus, which is already on my kindle, but I was in the mood for erotica).
Unfortunately for me, the erotica was my least favorite part. The beginning part (the world building, I suppose), was really campy and funny and I was definitely cracking up. I love how the book does not take itself seriously AT ALL. I just wanted a little more from it, which maybe isn't fair.
The main character (Dorian) goes straight from completely homophobic to begging to be fucked in the next sentence. There was no tension, transitions, or physical description for the characters. And especially for the love interest-which was a sort of floating painting that comes to life (also named Dorian)- descriptions would have been helpful.
I feel like I'm being picky.... but I'm a little upset because this had a lot of unrealized potential. BUT... it is short and fun and funny, and I do think that was the intention. ...more

This is Byron Kae's story- what it was like for them growing up, how they got their name and their ship, their first love etc. It is told by Byron Kae to Dill (Picadilly) after the events of Prosperity. It's basically a monologue, with occasional interruptions from the audience (aka Dill).
I was really excited for this one because I was a big fan of Byron Kae in Prosperity, but this may be my least favorite of the collection so far. Not that it's bad, it was just, not as funny or engaging as the other ones. ...more
