At least 7 references to the wet-shirt scene in Pride and Prejudice. I was too young for Austenmania in 1995. Suffice it to say that this book is a lot of fangirling/fapping at Colin Firth, particularly in that scene. I have seen that miniseries, and I do think that Colin Firth is handsome, and his voice is really lovely and British and a touch condescending, but I wasn't a part of "austenmania", like I wasn't a part of "Beatlemania" so I can't really judge. This book was published in 2013. Alan Rickman was still alive then (see page 39. RIP). I felt that this book was really leaning towards the Janeites who grew up with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. I would have liked to see more coverage. Maybe about the fans of the 2005 movie? (There were a lot). Anyhow, cute little book, but it feels incomplete.
Edit: This book is really a fappening of Colin Firth and this scene.

Without spoiling you too much, Nora commits suicide and she wakes up in a place that is between life and death. A library where she can take out books that show her what her life could have been like. One of these books is The Book of Regrets.
I skimmed and skipped to the end, after reading about 30% of the book.
It's okay, it's just repetitive.
Reading this book, I felt like watching Russian Doll on Netflix again....more

It was such a satisfying feeling to finish a book.
Great story about trauma and interabled lovers and relationships. Fast read. I had it out for a long time from the library (covid no fines), but I finished this book overnight + the next morning....more

A friend really loved this book and that was why I gave it a shot.
I couldn't even skim for the last bit to get all the intertextual references (something I like to do for any book, regardless of whether I like it or not).
But yeah, this just wasn't the book for me. I'm so glad I tried it out though. Now I know I probably won't like Haruki Murakami....more
