Sebastian's constant declarations of not being good enough for Matty were teetering on the edge of being too much, but the story was good enough for me to ignore it.
The last quarter was more of a mixed bag. I enjoyed some parts, but other parts were way too sweet, considering how the rest of the story was written. My brain didn't like the contrast and it, along with the way Sebastian still doubled down on the idea of him not being good enough for Matty (I seriously wanted Leo to clobber him again when they were in Argentina ...more

This was one of my most anticipated reads this fall, and unfortunately, it just didn't hit the mark for me. I don't think there's anything wrong with it; it just isn't a good fit for me. I thought the pacing was way too slow and, at times, I found it hard to stay engaged. Casey's personality made the story feel much younger than it was intended to and and by the time he and Landon finally kissed, I felt absolutely nothing. No joy, no relief, no giddiness, or swooning... I just didn't care. If that isn't a glaring sign to go ahead and stop reading, I don't know what is.
You know what's annoying? The fact that I purchased both the ebook AND the audiobook (...more

Absolutely tore me apart, then decided I'd suffered enough so put me back together with so much love that I was left exhausted after finishing it.
The love that I have for Lidon and his three mates are what made this story the emotional powerhouse that it was. I was bawling my eyes out at one point and even had to take a break because I wanted to hold on to those emotions before I continued. I can't remember the last time I've cared about fictional characters this much. That subplot really hut me hard.
As for the main subjects of this book, Naran, Sivney, and Lev, I still don't know what to think of them. Their relationship dynamic is so strange to me and I don't necessarily dislike it but I can't say that I like it either. If Sivney were a real person he'd, very succinctly, inform me that whether I like it or not doesn't matter and I think too highly of myself to think that my opinion mattered or that I felt the need to share it, lol.
I've read the first seven books of this series, along with one novella, back to back and I'm a little burnt out so I'm going to take a break before I finish the last two. Aside from the two books that focused on Bray and his men I can honestly say that I don’t have anything truly negative to say about the series as a whole. It isn't perfect and I know that it won't be for everyone but for me it's turning out to be one of my favorite series.
John Solo does an absolutely phenomenal job narrating these books. The way he gives these characters such unique speaking styles and enhances their personality really made the story 10x more enjoyable. He read with so much heart and emotion that I honestly don't think I'd have enjoyed this nearly as much had I read it on my own. 5+ stars, for both the story and the narrator. ...more

It was nice seeing Hiro and Maddox working together as a fully established couple. Maddox is just as protective of Hiro as he was in book two and Hiro still trusts Maddox to always keep him safe and grounded.
The case they worked on in this story was a lot easier to follow than that crazy cult/possession thing going on in book two. I wasn't sure how it was going to end (and I still may be a little confused as to how Hiro got Peter to move on...even if he found his body) but I still enjoyed it. Peter was the epitome of an evil villan and I can't help but feel like he got off way too easy considering all the misery he inflicted on everyone around him. I hope his moving on allowed his victims to move on as well.
My only complaint is that we don't find out what happened to all of the prominent side characters, including the man who shot Maddox, Barry's sister, his mother, and all of Peter and Ambrose's victims. We weren't even really told what ended up happening to Ambrose. Did he end up in jail or a psychiatric ward?
This was first and foremost a mystery. Though Hiro and Maddox shared many heartfelt moments throughout the story there really wasn't much romace and the spice was pretty much nonexistent. If you're already familiar with the MCs and liked the two previous stories you should enjoy this one as well. 4 stars...more

So far, it is my favorite story from the series and trust me when I say never in a million years did I think I'd be actually empathizing with and rooting for Lucien. Seeing him through Jaime's eyes helped tremendously in changing my opinion of him. Even his anger issues, vindictiveness, and general disregard for anyone who wasn't Jamie stopped bothering me. In fact, by the end of the story, he was the vampire I'd most want to be mated with. My book 1 reading past self would be both shocked and disgusted. ...more

Kian is a newly single omegThis was a really sweet story and I enjoyed it up until the two MCs became a couple, after which it quickly went downhill.
Kian is a newly single omega who moves to Montana to live and work with his best friend on rebranding his family’s business. When he gets there he meets his oldest brother, Gabe, who appears to be disgruntled about him staying on their ranch, as well as the whole rebranding thing in general. He actively avoids Kian and makes him feel unwelcomed. What Kian doesn’t know is that Gabe recognized him as his mate the moment he laid eyes on him and he’s worried about him finding out that his family (as well as most of the people living in Asheville) are shifters. He doesn’t know how Kian will react… will he be scared? Will he tell other humans? Will it completely destroy their mate bond? That sort of thing.
From the beginning the MCs had great chemistry and I loved how supportive Gabe’s family was about the relationship. They didn’t mind that Kian was a human and just wanted Gabe to be happy. Kian didn't have any siblings and his papa had recently passed away so he was more than happy to become a part of Gabe’s large than life family. It was all very sweet/fluffy and even though it was kind of shallow I still would’ve given it a high rating for being what it was. However, once the MCs got together and found out that Kian was pregnant the story completely stagnated. The last 75 to 80 pages should’ve been condensed into maybe 20 or so pages. It was full of over the top declarations of love and was basically us following Kian’s pregnancy until the birth of his twins. I completely checked out and ended up skimming in order to finish the story.
Overall, I thought this was a pretty good start to the series and, assuming each story gets a little better each time, I look forward to continuing it. There were three-ish sex scenes (one was a fade to black type of thing, ergo the ish) and they were really well written, so if smut is your thing you won’t be disappointed. 2.5 stars...more

I liked Niko and Dixon as MCs but, if I'm being totally honest, it didnt feel like there was much depth to their characters and, even if I'm wrong about that, their connection to each other definitely felt off; lacking in some way. It's true that they were physically attracted to each other and had great sexual chemistry, but I didn't see any real emotional connection. It's like the entire relationship was built upon the fact that sex with each other felt different. They didn't have any meaningful conversations or spend a lot of time with each outside of their workplace.
Also, the story seemed to drag too much. Once I reached the 60% mark, I started skimming, focusing on dialogue. The spicy scenes weren't as spicy as I thought they'd be (though, given the "boyfriend" parameters they were given for their scenes that can be excused) and their eventual getting together in the final quarter of the story was anticlimactic as hell. I felt nothing. I just wanted to hurry up and finish the story. ...more

I randomly decided to start listening to it and…wow. It turned out to be one of the best paranormal criminal mystery romances that I’ve read/listened to in a long time. Greg Bourdreaux did such an impressive job that I’m certain I wouldn’t have enjoyed this as much if I had read it on my own. His tone and intonation for each of the characters was terrific, and I especially enjoyed the way he read for Hiro. He was a ridiculously lovable character and I couldn’t help being swept away by his snarkiness and sass. The fact that he embraced his gift instead of viewing it as a curse was refreshing. Even Maddox, the grumpiest detective on the police force, couldn't resist him. Their banter was hilarious and they, along with Reggie and Natalie, had me constantly laughing out loud. Who knew that horny ghosts could be so funny?
The murder mystery itself was surprisingly good and I had a lot of fun following Hiro and Maddox around as they tried to solve it. The culprit was very unexpected and the author did a great job throwing me off because every time I thought I knew who the killer was it turned out to be wrong. The paranormal aspects of the mystery were flawlessly incorporated and made it even better. Seeing how protective Maddox became over Hiro toward the end was the final piece of perfection that made this story great. 5 very unexpected stars

I'm glad I listened to the audiobook because there is no way I would have been able to finish this if I had to read it on my own. It's 450 pages of nothing but unnecessary drama between two high school seniors prompted by a misunderstanding that took place the summer before school started. I was bored throughout most of the story but continued listening because I wanted to know the reason behind Ryne's shitty attitude toward Dacen. When I finally found out what it was it made me dislike the story even more. This was a huge waste of time for me but I can understand why others liked it. Despite it being set in a small southern town there was no homophobia whatsoever. Ryne and Dacen’s friends and family were supportive and all of the teenagers were portrayed accurately in terms of speech, action, and experience. 1.5 stars, rounded up....more

Unfortunately, this wasn’t nearly as enjoyable. It isn’t a bad story, per se, and I really enjoyed the humor in the beginning. I just thought it was dull and kind of… shallow? The main characters were already attracted to each other and the only conflict was that Zeb thought he was too old for Jesse and Jesse thought Zeb wasn’t over his ex. The words that come to mind when describing this story are formulaic and predictable. Jesse and Zeb are watered down versions of Dylan and Gabe and by the 60% mark I already knew Patrick was going to do something slimy, it would cause a rift between Jesse and Zeb, and that rift would quickly be resolved once Zeb explained things to him, professing his love in the process. Nothing new, nothing exciting. The fact that I read two fabulous stories prior to this one also didn’t help. 2.5 stars ...more
