This is a low angst, low conflict story. There’s really no plot but it’s not all spice either. Within a week they’re in love and committing to each other.

This book did things a bit differently and I appreciated it. Instead of the relationship being a secret from Ross or anyone else, it was discovered and admitted to fairly quickly and accepted by all. It wasn’t the main conflict like these relationships usually are.
I am not a fan of quick conflict, easy resolution, wrap it up in a bow books which is a lot of what I’ve read from Hart. They have their place for me and are usually used as a rare pallet cleanser.
This was good though. I didn’t really have any expectations but I had fun ...more

The maturity of the characters is unmatched and I loved that it wasn’t just “we can’t do this” but a grand gesture happens and then they suddenly can.
They took their time arranging their lives without the other so when they did meet again, it was perfect.
The details in the first half were a little weird and not flushed out. There’s an agreement that’s made but not really clearly. Idk. It was odd.
I loved it for what it was and it delivered in my time of need. ...more

I really wanted t*Came back to knock it down to 2 stars after further consideration. This is wild and I cannot believe I read it. What even was that.
I really wanted to like this. The premise is so good and the characters were so different and not roles you generally assume them to be in. I love Beck and a few of their books are in my top reads.
But this just...didn't hit.
How many times can one man end a situationship before you just call it quits for good? Jesus (literally). There were times where I was sure that the characters were switched up. That there was no way that I was to believe a 45 year old man would behave like this? Or a 19 year old for that matter.
It just bothered me. If you like the "will they, wont they" of a story, boy is this the book for you.
(view spoiler)[Jarred would run and then come back with puppy dog eyes and a "but God said" and Noah would immediately cave. Because he's 19. It wasn't even back and forth. It was a 45 year old man bolting at every minor inconvenience and a 19 year old with the emotional maturity of a literal saint. Jarred had the emotional intelligence of a thumb and I just wasn't on board with that. (hide spoiler)]

It did a great job of setting up the series and the town as well as introducing who we’ll meet in the next books. Eli and Parker were perfect for kicking it off.
Eli is James’s younger brother and the one that moved away from Moonlight Falls as quick as humanly possible. Parker is James’s best friend since they were young. Parker has been around for most of Eli’s life but once he returns to conduct research he starts to see Parker in a different light.
I honestly wish we got more of them. Their story is so sweet and though I’m sure the issues in town will be a focal point for future books, I wish they were the ones seeing it through. We never really get a full view of how strong Parker is or why Eli doesn’t have magic.
I think this was written perfectly in order to set up this world. I’m definitely hooked on them and looking forward to book 2.

But….it was sweet? And kind of perfect?
Scotty should absolutely seek a real therapist because, whew. The way that man can stretch to find plausible reasoning is an Olympic sport.
Brody? Just gets sucked into the tornado that is Scotty. I’m not entirely sure he realizes it either. Just going along. They’re not only not on the same page, they’re in different books, in different libraries, on different continents for a long time. ...more

Ren deserves to be loved and Major just wants to love. He’s just a big bear that wants to wrap everyone up in the best hug and take their pain away.
I wish the ending/epilogue had more time and we got more background on Major, but overall it was a great way to wrap up the series.
I thought the grief and loving after loss was handled so beautifully ...more
