O, pray, but listen to mine small story, A book hath now arrived, kindl'ng my will To race, abandon my post, my duty And gaze upon words most tragic and sad.
Woe doth visit upon those who cannot... To read e'en now the tragedy most sad The Tragedy of the Revenge of Sith But, fear ye not, dear Youngling, thy time comes!
Thou canst, verily, read this book and prize! I do but shudder, soon poor Padme dies!
Now... O, woe, most terrible, such deep anguish! Mine book, thou art but fleeting, though friend strong A brief, but mighty company to me So wherefore must thou depart hence so brisk?
Be still, mine heart, for Force awakens swift Mayhap Sir Doescher -- curtains shallt 'gain lift?

Tonight we're answering some questions from readers about whether to embark on reading the histories known as The High Republic, a period a few hundred years before I was born. This was the Golden Age of the Jedi, at the height of their powers and at the height of their glory. We have a few works being published at the moment about this period, including some texts and some illustrated works. The first text released is Light Of The Jedi. Oh, hey Yoda. You were there during those days, right?"
"Hmm, yes, correct, this is! Though taking a sabbatical, I was, for some reason that now escapes me. So ask me not what happened; guarantee that I was, ahem, fully sober, I cannot. By the way, very good looking, I was, in my slightly younger days, yes…"
"Sure you were, and thanks for interjecting your grammatically poor observations there, Yoda! Talk to you later.
"Now, let's get onto the questions…"

Dear Luke, I only like the classic era in the galaxy. You know, that period that the first three historical recordings released were based on? There was some new hope, then an empire that struck back, and then you returned. That's the history I enjoy. Should I read The Light Of The Jedi? Cheers Classic Fan
Dear Classic Fan, You don't like anything other than classic era? Don't bother reading this then as it's certainly not "classic era". You may enjoy Heir To The Empire, which is now just a pretend history, debunked once Disney bought rights to releasing galactic history - Heir To The Empire is the first of three works, and reads very much like those three recordings you liked. Do it. It is your destiny. Enjoy! LS

Hey Master Skywalker! I'm an intense scholar and I spend my life on the holonet telling everyone the backstories of minor players in the Mandalorian histories. Should I read this? Here's hoping, Big Fan Of Anything SW
Hey Big Fan Of Anything SW! Why are you asking me, kid? Obviously you should read this. As we all know you'll enjoy it. Do what must be done. Do not hesitate! You mightn't find the subtlety and cleverness of Thrawn, but you'll find plenty to enjoy (particularly the baddies and the way the Force is described - that's neat). Enjoy! LS

Howdy Luke, I don't even like any of these Star Wars histories, except I've enjoyed watching the Mandalorian documentary. Should I go for this? Bye I Don't Like SW
Howdy I Don't Like SW, NOOO! -Luke PS you rebel scum.

Luke, I'd like to dip my feet into reading something SW. Would you suggest this? Thanks Never Read SW
Never Read SW, If you've never read Star Wars, you could do much worse than start here, but it's possible you could also do better. I'm not a full blown SW scholar myself, so perhaps ask more qualified SW scholars, but I think it's a decent introduction to the Star Wars universe, despite being in a different time from everything else so far. However, what about alternatives? I very much enjoyed historian Timothy Zahn's Thrawn books (particularly the third, Thrawn: Treason - we're talking official Disney history now). And actually, reading Revenge Of The Sith is pure joy. If you liked that movie even a little I would start there. However, if you enjoy those texts then: by all means, we would be honoured if you would join us in reading these books. Hope this helps, Luke

Hey Luke, I'm a casual reader of SW. I've enjoyed some. Should I start this…? Cheers, Casual Reader
Hey Casual Reader, If you enjoy some of the others, I would say it was one of the better ones. And this is just the beginning! I have a good feeling about this era of the galaxy... Cheers Luke

After responding to his readers from his hermit getaway planet of islands, Luke had a fight with Rey - he hadn't even MENTIONED her era in history so she'd gone and sulked with Kylo, Luke's enemy. After the fight, Rey stormed off-planet, while Luke had a bit of a huff, and swore he'd destroy all his sacred Jedi texts collection - High Republic stuff included. Maybe it wasn't very Jedi of him but so what? All this Jedi adulation had to end! That Light Of The Jedi text only made the adulation more intense anyway - all those high and mighty Jedi of old. So it had to go.
But he couldn't bring himself to do it, so Yoda brought down a lightning bolt on it all himself - you couldn't leave a job half done! Silly Skywalker, always trying and never doing, in direct contravention of Yoda's SPECIFIC instructions. Guh, Jedi these days, amiright?!
"BUT THE SACRED JEDI TEXTS?!!" Luke complained, while Yoda chuckled.
"Have no fear, young Skywalker, obviously we didn't keep just one copy of sacred texts, that would've been foolish! I'm not sure some of that was sacred anyway... But a certainty, it is, that Darth Walt will release these many, many volumes for YEARS to come …"...more
