I wanted to see him truly regret avoiding her and caring nothing for her for over a decade, but that doesn't happen. And worse, the author robs the h of her strength of character almost immediately after the best part; where she punches him when they finally meet again. Next thing you know, she's apologizing and having tbs over his handsome womanizing self, and he's being smarmy with his man-about-town charm. And even MORE worse, it borders on corny every time you hope for some honest emotions. And worse again, sigh, she keeps harping on the years he ignored her existence philandering away in London with no discretion. But instead of it creating some angst and grovel, he makes her feel like a nagging shrew!
He falls for her, but I don't know why other than he has the hots for her. Same from her end. I disliked every single character.
They spend a 3rd of the story apart and in the meantime one of his ex paramours and a villainous stepbrother show up being snide and lying. The trollop gets her comeuppance, but not from him. He just stands there like a doofus. There's no grovel or regret for being intimate with such a trollop. In fact he gets his panties in a twist over ... well I don't know what really. It was just stupid and so was the final confrontation with the villain. The ending was cornier than a can of creamed corn.
Meh
Safety was for sh*t. (view spoiler)[He's spent the last 4 years shagging opera singers and widows with no thought of the h. She has never even been kissed and she's 26 years old! (He's 32). They were betrothed when she was 13 and it's been 13 years. He gives a brief off the cuff apology for not coming to see her sooner, quickly followed by a bunch of mealy mouthed excuses as to why he didn't. He seems unable to understand her anger and puts it down to maidenly fears. Honestly, where's a skillet when you need one!? (hide spoiler)]...more
'Bitch' as Harmony's brother like's to call him, had a sad sack childhood. As the son of a famous rock star he learned that women all suck and are out'Bitch' as Harmony's brother like's to call him, had a sad sack childhood. As the son of a famous rock star he learned that women all suck and are out to get you. But this doesn't really make sense after how he stood up for Willow in the last book. I mean he must realize now that not all women are like his exes or Nurie the evil OW from the last book. So it made him seem a little stupid that he made such egregious leaps in logic about Harmony (who just happens to be one of Willow's closest friends!).
This series differs from the last in that Harmony and some of her family are Fae touched. So if she opens herself to a man she forms a bond (and other bonuses) that will forever link them together mentally.
He and Harmony have a series of one night stands over a couple months. Harmony is a virgin and that kinda soured the book a bit for me. It made him seem even stupider to think the worst of her after she gives him her virginity. I mean do you really think someone who saved her hymen till her mid twenties is gonna be a gold digging skank??? All Harmony was guilty of was showing up late to the last of their rendezvous dates at the bar. She had a flat tire dude! He thinks she's playing games by making him wait so he takes the mean girl/town bicycle and Harmony's arch nemesis into the bathroom for a quick shag. Because of the bond Harmony accidentally allowed to form between them, Harmony feels every bit of his thoughts as he's shagging the Teresa the skank. And she's a HUGE skank. Maybe even more of a cartoony villain than Nurie was.
He goes on to refute her baby being his, because he had a vasectomy. And then tells others that she is a crazy dangerous loon because she showed him her Fae powers. He disappears from Harmony's life for the entire pregnancy. He goes to help his famous rock star dad. When he sees a picture of Harmony's baby girl, he knows the baby is his. Then the story really gets rolling.
I thought he did some lovely groveling and I loved the introduction of his dad to the story. BUT... But, I didn't really think he understood the magnitude of what he did when he shagged Teresa in the bathroom. There's a big deal made of it being Teresa the evil chick who has bullied Harmony since they were little girls. But it didn't really matter to me that it was her. It could have been anyone and bothered me just as much. Because his response was SO hugely out of proportion to what he perceived to be Harmony 'playing games' with him, that I would worry about what he would do next time he panties in a bunch over something Harmony did. And his dad admits that he was the one who taught 'Bitch' that of a woman does you wrong you just go immediately to the next one and shag her.
It bothered me and I know the author tried really hard to fix that wrong. But I still felt like he hadn't learned his lesson.
But I still really enjoyed the story and couldn't put it down.
Safety is meh. (view spoiler)[Harmony is a virgin. She makes more sense as a virgin than Willow because she was always fearful of accidentally bonding with someone if they had sex. That and the fact that Teresa made a point of shagging any guy who took an interest in Harmony. One good thing was Teresa got rail roaded out of town and beat up a few times in an entertaining way. Hatch shags Teresa in the bar bathroom. But he never has sex with anyone else after that. The author kinda glosses over that saying he just isn't interested. You'd think a guy who is used to picking up women and discarding them like tissues would be worried when he goes for the majority of a year without sex?!? Not that I want him too but it just didn't make sense. And I would have appreciated it more if he had Harmony on his mind whenever he tried to date others. He was married to a gold digger and dated a gold digger in high school and his mother and step mother were gold diggers. So there is a lot of precedence set. (hide spoiler)]...more
