Though, I didn't read much this year. But still. This one squeezed a fuck ton of tears from my eyes. And the fact that hits me right in the gut with the OCD representation. I've never felt so seen before.
And also the fact that this book hits that childhood friends to lovers trope right while I'm in the middle of my kdrama era again. I mean, is this destiny? I've been literally searching for a plot like this for weeks.
Gosh. I love this book and this is why I read dammit!...more

And this one delivered it. Kinda. It was more emotional and reminded me of The Vow more than it did the silly Sandler movie.
On the supposed-to-be the best night of their life, our girl here got wrecked by a drunk driver. It left her comatose for 3 months and when she woke up, she lost the memories from her last two years, the years when she fell in love with her annoying brother's best friend who was also her biggest crush. Ain't fate a bitch to these people.
It was pretty good, leans on the chick-lit vibe, was less smutty, and featured one of the most wholesome and sweet heroes I've ever read. My god, my ovaries are willing to unshrivel themselves up and get down with this man. Perfect boyfriend/husband material here, girls.
All in all, had a pretty good time reading this one. A nice relaxing read in fact, despite some amnesiac drama it has....more

5 Breathtaking Stars
This.
When I look back at our story, there is no single place where it began. Our tale is not like the horizon over the sea, a single line that might be traced, but a constellation, a scattering of silver points through which our history is woven. Still, when I think of how it all started, I think of two nights. The first is the night I poisoned Elias. The second is this.
This is everything I ever wanted from a book. This book looks like (from the cover) and sounds (from the blurb) just like any other fantasy romance featuring an outcast heroine and a higher-status-born hero. But the meat of the story... it's so beautiful.
I love the writing in the book and the way the narrative is set up. It's in first person past tense, with the added flare of 'if I knew then what I know now' vibe, which I love in a story. Plus, it's so easy to read, and since English is not my first language, I needed that extra help. It can be a little flowery at times but god how I love it. Because at Selene's age, I was that flowery too! Ah Selene, I love her so much. This book started when she was fourteen, the age when she poisoned the king. She stole my heart there and more as she grew up. This girl's selflessness, innocence, and desire to be cherished made my heart ache for her, scared for her. The author did a damn good job in making this character. God. I love this girl so much!
As for the love interest, the poisoned king did not recover from the assassination attempt unscathed. It left him paralyzed, weak, and deep in depression (check the triggers). He started as an almost unlikable character, rude, and bordering on cruel. Also, there's a 9 years age gap between them, so take that as you will but I promise you, nothing inappropriate happened (well at least until she's 18). He reminded me a little of the Beast. In pain, bearing a heavy burden, and a little misunderstood, but deep down, has a good heart.
All in all, it's a great freaking story. And the latest addition to my all-time favourite list.
Who would we be without our scars? Who would we become without our pasts?
So, let me start by saying, I would've loved this duet a lot more if the author had pulled through with the DD/lg plot.
As for the book itsel3.5 stars
So, let me start by saying, I would've loved this duet a lot more if the author had pulled through with the DD/lg plot.
As for the book itself, I think the was a little issue with the pacing, especially toward the end. There wasn't any conclusive climax to this duet. It kinda fizzled out and left me quite unsatisfied. Plus, it meandered a lot too. There were just too many filler chapters for me to care about and adding to the unsatisfying conclusion to this couple's story, I was just not wholly impressed by this duet altogether.
However, the strength of this series is definitely the huge cast of characters and the dynamic between them. I do enjoy reading about the unique dynamic of the main couple. The whole thing with the soft Dom and alpha-ish sub is something I rarely see in my romance books and I appreciated that. I love how well they balanced each other out and how perfectly complimented one another. As much as I tend to stay away from BDSM stuffs, this one is alright.
Anyway, it was still a pretty decent duet. Started off strong and it fizzled out in the end there but I would still recommend this to anyone who wants a pretty nice BDSM/mafia book with an oblivious heroine and a very devoted hero....more

Honestly, it was fiiinnneeeee. Did I mention it was a slow burn? Or my massive crush of Ríkr? I want a book about him, if it's possible.
The book itself, it's not dragging, that's not the issue here. I do, however, find it plot focussed and quite less characters bonding time (except when Atear appeared). I just wish we got a proper balance of that.
All in all, I still think it's a good series to read as it's quick and light. You could finish the whole series in two days....more

The one where they look back on all those fond memories, of them sharing the same apartment, hanging out together, drinking out in bars, getting high, and some having a secret relationship with each other in the tight-knit circle. And the realization that that part of their life is now over and has life brought them into separate directions.
It's so bittersweet. So of course, I did cry. All I want to say is that it's perfect for me....more

I did not expect the unusual dynamic we have between these two main characters. Our heroine here didn't care for the hero at all initially... actually for the most part of the book. Well, not until they realized they were sexy pen-pal buddies with each other for quite some time.
It's a little sad to see the unrequited love Hunter (the hero) has over Aurora (the heroine) and how she never even entertained his flirtings or kind gestures over the years they know each other. Which btw, I didn't read the whole interconnected other series in order, so I have no idea if they were even a big part of those books or the history behind their previous relationship with each other. So yeah. It was definitely different in comparison to other books I've read.
Aurora was something else. She's a tough woman, a workaholic, and driven. But underneath all that, she was hurting and for lack of better words, haunted by something. She always feels ashamed of her kink and feels unaccepted sexually. Added to the trauma of her past, who can blame her when she acted like a bitch sometimes.
And Hunter. Oh Hunter. He's such a good guy that was handed the wrong life and the responsibilities that went with it. Again, a different type of archetype of romance heroes that I usually find in my books.
All in all, it's different compared to my usual reads and I did enjoy reading it a lot....more
