Older woman and younger man romance. (The hero is 28)
A heroine that is Not a ar⭐⭐⭐ 3 stars.
➕ What I liked :
“Older” heroine. (30)
Red-headed/ginger hero.
Older woman and younger man romance. (The hero is 28)
A heroine that is Not a aristocrat/noblewoman but a working woman. (Sheep farmer/thread maker)
Likable hero that is calm/rational and understanding.
Somewhat interesting beginning of the story.
➖ What I disliked:
Not a likable heroine. (She was too stubborn and overwrought…. But also rather self-absorbed)
Too much focus on the necklaces and everything about them, but also too much emphasis/rehashing on the heroines past.
Somewhat jumbled in some parts of the story.
The romantic build up and chemistry was somewhat stilted/unconvincing and lacked some depth.
The ending felt kind of abrupt and unresolved because the main characters did not really address how they would resolve the heroines farm in Wales. (She had a her own life and business in Wales… what happened with that?)
OTT believability/plausibility issues. (That heroine did Everything on her own…. On the farm and with the animals and making thread etc. Managing/running a sheep farm is tough and hard work especially during the time period/era this story is set (Late Regency) it is not a One man or One woman enterprise/undertaking.)
Repetitive.
Formulaic in the character description/visual appearance/character choices. (Especially the hero and heroes of this book and series… all are tall and muscular/big and very handsome… not many things sets them apart from each other when it comes to their visual appearance/description…..more or less just different eye colors and hair colors.)...more
Some of the parts in the beginning of the story. (Interesting idea.)
Main characters that are tiny bit “older” (FMC 25+, MMC 3⭐⭐ 2 stars.
➕ What I liked :
Some of the parts in the beginning of the story. (Interesting idea.)
Main characters that are tiny bit “older” (FMC 25+, MMC 30+.)
➖ What I disliked :
Annoying main characters. (Especially the MMC.)
How often and in very childish ways the MMC scared the FMC… it was very over the top/ridiculous and so much of it was not sexy but just immature. (They are in their late 20’s to early 30’s and act more or less like teenagers etc. especially the MMC.... even if some of it is part of the kink it is still annoying.)
Repetitive and cringey.
The chemistry was lacking.
Dragged in some parts.
Very thin plot and the part about the “murder mystery party” was underdeveloped.
Formulaic. (The main characters seem rather formulaic…. Stereotypical in both appearance/looks and also to a certain degree personalities etc. The main characters kind of all blend together because there is so little depth to them and what is told/shown is rather formulaic… Even for a erotic novella/erotica )
Underdeveloped.
The spicy scenes were both over the top and at the same time underwhelming,...more
Intriguing and interesting characters (especially the⭐⭐⭐ 3 stars.
➕ What I liked :
A little bit “older” heroine (31)
Good chemistry and romantic build up.
Intriguing and interesting characters (especially the hero.)
Neurodiverse character.
Interesting secondary characters.
The heroes devotion to his daughter.
Deals with infertility issues. (rather uncommon in historical romance.)
➖ What I disliked:
The underlying/unspoken bitterness and resentment between the sisters was dragged on too long and some parts of that issue did not feel very well thought out.
The children did not come across as they were 5-6 year olds (they were too precocious.)
The heroes awful mother that got no real comeuppance.
Somewhat parts were a little bit disjointed and the ending was abrupt/weird and left some things unanswered/unresolved.
The heroine deals with infertility issues…. Or does she ? (this is not really answered/resolved.)
Uncommon profession or hobby for the heroine. (for the time period.)
Kind of interesting characters but they lacked some dep ⭐⭐ 2 stars.
➕ What I liked :
Uncommon profession or hobby for the heroine. (for the time period.)
Kind of interesting characters but they lacked some depth and needed to be a little bit more developed and not so repetitive.
Interesting side characters. (The heroes group of friends.)
➖ What I disliked:
Repetitive.
Repetitive character descriptions. (especially about how handsome and tall/big the hero is.)
Some parts felt unfinished and disjointed/jumbled.
Anachronistic. (a bachelor auction for charity in 1850 London. Etc.)
Slow-paced/dragged.
Thin and boring plot.
Formulaic and predictable.
The main characters are kind of formulaic in how they are written/portrayed …. it would be much more interesting and add depth if the there was more variety in appearance/looks.
The heroines father and step-mother.
Lacking depth and development of the main characters. (backstory etc.)
The chemistry and romantic build up was lacking and unconvincing.
No pregnancy or kids/babies at the end of the book. (And the only discussion the couple had about kids was that they maybe would adopt in the future…. Because the heroine thinks she is “barren” because she had no children with her late husband. )
