Really fun book but also some great lessons about being logical (by not being logical) and understanding humor. This is the first I’ve read in this series, and I can understand why I’ve heard so many great things about it. The artwork is fun - “noodlehead” stories have been around for ages, but this is the first one I’ve read where the characters are actually noodles. The characters are likable and fun, and the artwork is bold and colorful!

Really fun book! I love that it’s from the dog’s perspective and he says things like “That’s my favorite food!” to basically every food. And when he counts it’s never in order (“One… four… two… eight…”). Fun mystery books with King and Kayla as the detectives!
Materials used: “The illustrations were drawn in pencil with color added digitally.”

This felt… extremely basic and super repetitive even for a basic beginning reader. The text became annoying and the illustrations were very minimalistic to the point of boredom. The ending was kind of amusing and I enjoyed seeing Otto the robot help Pip the mouse, but I just don’t understand this as a Geisel Honor Book.

I was wondering why this was such a tall and narrow book when I checked it out of the library and quickly got my answer as I started reading it. A boy loses control of his bot and it climbs higher and higher into the sky amongst the skyscrapers. Neighbors and a doorman attempt to help him in their own unique way. The ending gave me a chuckle. Really enjoyed this and can easily see how it won the Geisel award.

Playful book about a little boy pretending to be a dinosaur and trying to find clothes that fit after taking a bath. Silly and fun… But the rhythm of the rhymes didn’t always feel right and it begins and ends with the mom yelling at the boy to stop playing which didn’t feel great. I don’t really understand why this was chosen as a Geisel Honor Book - it’s decent but doesn’t feel special.

Honestly it took me a good ten seconds to realize the tiger on the cover has eyes. I thought they were part of the nose. And in many illustrations the tiger looks more like a baggy costume than an actual tiger. I just didn’t love the illustrations. The story is rather fun though! Tiger doesn’t like worms and worms don’t like tiger… Until the worms read a book about tigers and learn about them.
It’s a decent read but I expected a bit more from a Geisel Honor Book.

The illustrations and typography are lovely and lively and it’s just a super fun book all around. Some of the little details are rather entertaining like the goldfish’s expressions, the blocks of cheese everywhere and the fact that the book’s text is made entirely of the words in the title.

I found this to be rather humorous and charming. Owl basically rips apart his entire home looking for the source of a noise… a mouse which is on most the pages. A prime example of what not to do! The pastel colors work really well with a night time book.

I’m not sure why this is called “I See a Cat” instead of “I See a Squirrel” because the dog is clearly more interested in the squirrel and it gets mentioned four times versus the cat only once. But ok. Still a cute story from the dog’s perspective of everything he sees with repetitive text (“I see…”).
