It was like the author didn’t know how old to make her characters. Granted, I could see them reliving their childhood/teenage memories of one another, but they jarred with their current lustful adult thoughts. However, the story eventually hit its stride....more

WhatYes, I know the fashion isn’t right for 1868, but these twins are just too adorable to not post! [image] ★★★★½ (This is a review of the audiobook.) What can I say about the wonderful, versatile Rosalyn Landor that I have not said before? Here she surprised me with her Kentucky accent of Lucas Ross, the hero. Granted, I’ve met people from this wonderful Southern “blue grass” state and they speak a lot slower than she delivered Lucas’ lines. LOL! Which is probably a good thing, as it would have taken me forever to get to the end. Nevertheless, she gives us a very good delivery of him, astounding me yet again. Of course, the rest of her reading is perfection. I've read this one before, but she kicks it up a notch.
I’m so happy they are re-releasing JG’s books on audio! While this one isn’t my favorite, it gets better as the story moves along. It seems a little disjointed at first, as it searches for a comfortable setting in which to get cozy - the old world or the new. I was able to get distracted by other pretty bookcovers.
Still, some parts are excellent... the scenes aboard ship, the cute twins, and Lucas’ possessiveness -- once he commits to Taylor. Some think the book’s title is a little misleading, as Lucas is NOT a knight and Taylor is so obviously a lady; he’s a ... well, I’ll let you discover that. Alas, you must remember, Lucas is Taylor’s idea of Prince Charming. He’s mine, too!...more

Nevert[image] ★★★★✩ (This is a review of the audiobook.) I haven’t been a big fan of Jim Frangione's narration in the past; I think it is his cadence. Nevertheless, I love this author, so I gave him another try. He does a nice enough job here; not a lot of differentiation, and with his deep voice, it is hard for him to do the women. I will probably go on with the series on audio, so he wasn't awful.
I have always called Lori Foster my “Iron Woman.” She doesn't receive many five stars from me; but then she rarely gets less than four stars. I like her Romantic Suspense; they don’t have me biting my nails, nor give me nightmares. Still, they get my heart beating faster and have me creeping toward the edge of my seat. The emphasis is more on the Romance. Her stories are great and make it easy for me to identify with the heroine.
I usually like her characters, and Detective Logan Riske and Pepper Yates (AKA Sue Meeks) didn’t disappoint. I don’t blame Pepper for wanting to reveal her real personality. Five years is a long time to play a role, especially one that is the opposite of your nature. I don’t blame her for falling for Logan, either. In order to find out who killed his partner, he is under the guise of a construction worker. I’ve always had a thing for a well-built man in a tool-belt. He is trying to seduce Pepper in order to find out her brother's whereabouts. But, Lord help this guy when Pepper finds out he has deceived her.

★★★½☆ I have mixed feelings about this one. I received it from a GRs friend who tossed it into the package with something else she was mailing me. I love stories of small town lovin’ and upon cracking the book, couldn’t put it down… until later. Then I could, as it became a bit repetitive. The main characters, which I liked at the beginning, kept harping on the same issues. This is what we all do with the people we love, but still. And Amy and Logan have certainly loved each other since the sand-box, if love in a different manifestation. If I thought the set-up was for the protagonists to get closer, they took two steps back; if I thought the set-up was for them to pull apart, they took a giant step forward. Sometimes this was not so much a surprise as a little strange.
Also, not to give any spoilers away for those of you who are reading this series, but a character that will be the focus of the next installment of Destiny, is a bit of a b!tch; I don’t care to get to know her any better.
Still, the author could certainly hold my attention, for the most part; the love scenes are sweet and sexy. I’m going to have to try the other books in this series....more

This was charmingly narrated by Jenna Lamia who convincingly sounds not only like an intelligent, forlorn little 12 year-old girl, but the many moods of CeeCee herself – worry, happiness, embarrassment, guilt, wonder, revenge, fear, grief, sadness, humor, forgiveness, and delight. Ms. Lamia performs the various accents, Northern and Southern, female and male, with distention and authenticity. There are some wonderful, touching scenes in this coming-of-age story and she delivers them nicely....more

★★★★✩ (This is a review of the audiobook.) I truly enjoyed Marguerite Gavin’s narration of this first in The Hollows series, giving the first-person narrative for witch Rachel Morgan - who is a bounty hunter come private detective - great inflection, tone, and pacing. Nice differentiation of other voices, too. I’m looking forward to listening to more of her readings as I continue the series. And I’m definitely continuing the series!
I just loved this book! I thought KH’s alternate history paranormal world set in a parallel Cincinnati, Ohio, was fun and I enjoyed the variety of her characters and story-line. So many neat characters made it hard to pick a favorite. Ivy, a “living” vampire? The pixie Jenks, or his wife Matalina? Too hard to choose. Great supporting characters, too.
Favorite Quote: “He bit you on the neck? Oh, then it’s got to be love. She won’t let me bite her on the neck.” I do like the rare glimpse we get of Ivy’s dry humor.
(view spoiler)[I do worry about Rachel, though. Her spur-of-the-moment decisions are always getting her into hot water. Plus, I think there is something we don’t quite know yet about Nick... and I worry about her attraction or “pull” towards Trent. Also, the demon Algaliarept - AKA “Al” - is just plain scary.
