Robb’s latest installment of the In Death series is the most thrilling one yet! All of Robb’s books in this series have a mysterious and dark tone to them, but this one felt even more so because of the focus.
RANDOM IN DEATH involves a teen named Jenna who meets her death as she hits up a New York club. Eve becomes even more worried when she learns that her body was injected with infectious agents. How did his young sixteen-year-old musician end up dead? Was it a targeted attack? Or was it a random event that could possibly endanger more people?
I really enjoyed this cast of characters. It felt very real and thrilling to me, especially when Robb explores the use of infectious agents. As I don’t think she has done this in the series yet, it felt new and exciting. I was really surprised that despite having 58 books already in this series, she is still able to come up with something that she’s never done before.
I would definitely recommend this book and series to any mystery or crime reader. The sci fi elements and cast of characters are truly unique and keep me coming back for more. I don’t think there will be another cop like Eve Dallas that I think I’ll ever love more. ...more
J.D. Robb returns with another much anticipated and exciting installment to the In Death series. For fans who are longtime lovers of the power couple J.D. Robb returns with another much anticipated and exciting installment to the In Death series. For fans who are longtime lovers of the power couple that is Eve and Roarke, there’s a lot to get excited about with this book!
Exploring their past has been interesting but with a vacation to Greece followed by a family visit in Ireland, we get to see Eve and Roarke in a different light once again. I love moments like these because we can see the romance shine through. And for as a Roarke lover, I love getting to see more of his family.
However, things quickly change pace when Eve learns that a retired officer is found dead. Although most suspect it’s a suicide, Eve feels like foul play may actually be involved. Robb expertly weaves an excellent mystery, carrying readers through this book with ease.
I found myself amused, intrigued and mystified many times during this book, so it certainly was a pleasant read. If you’re new to the In Death world, do yourself a favor and start at book one. Despite how daunting it may seem, I have no doubt that you’ll be hooked like me. Robb definitely doesn’t disappoint with PAYBACK IN DEATH. ...more

Even with fifth sixty books in the series, J.D. Robb shows no signs of stopping with the In Death series. In ENCORE IN DEATH, a well-known man dies of cyanide poisoning. I can’t recall the last time a victim died due to poisoning in this series so it was a welcome notion. As you can expect, Robb weaves an intricate storyline that kept me on my toes.
I enjoyed the way Robb was able to keep me in the dark for most of the novel before revealing the identity of the killer. Not only was this perfectly executed but the ideas in her stories as well as her characters remain fresh and unique.
Robb has always had a skill at creating unusual victims and suspects, so it’s always a blast to read about them. I especially enjoyed this cast as the theme was carried out well, adding flavor to the mysterious plot. As one of my favorite mystery series, I always have high hopes for J.D. Robb and so far, she never fails to entertain me. ENCORE IN DEATH definitely deserves a standing ovation!...more

In the latest installment of the In Death series, a dead teenager leads Eve Dallas and her friends into the sex trafficking world. Given Eve’s past, this case is especially traumatic.
Robb details the abuse that the girls experience from the very beginning, so when one of them turns up dead, I feel like readers can connect more with the victim. I think this may disturb some readers due to the subject matter, but the details are glossed over. But I did just want to give a warming just to be safe.
Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of this concept, so this book isn’t my favorite of the series. However, I do think that Robb did a good job of bringing Eve’s past and her experiences into it as well. Of course, the story is written well and in an interesting way where we know who the bad guys are, but we don’t know everything about them. As the story unfolds, more truths are revealed.
DESPERATION IN DEATH is definitely one of the darker books in the series. But if you like a thrilling mystery and lots of twists and turns, then you don’t want to miss out on this one!...more
J.D. Robb returns with another thrilling installment to the In Death series. In the 54th book, Robb takes a darker approach to her book.
A woman is found dead in a playground. At first glance, she looks clean. Her hair is done and even her makeup is perfectly applied. But she also shows newer tattoos and piercings. A message is found on her that simply says ‘Bad Mommy’ as if a child had written it. As Eve delves deeper, she realizes that other women have been vanishing and they might be dealing with childhood trauma that has gone out of control.
As I mentioned earlier, I definitely felt that this was one of the darker books that Robb has written in this series. Since it deals with childhood trauma, Eve is affected much more because of her own trauma as a kid. The descriptions and the way Robb was able to weave this story shows her excellent skill. I was darkly riveted to the pages, but because of everything that was going on with the case, I felt like we missed a bit of the interaction between Eve and Roarke. Oftentimes, these scenes are my favorites of the books. So I would have liked to see more romance between the two to balance the other aspects of the book.
Nevertheless, ABANDONED IN DEATH is definitely not a book that you’ll be able to put down easily. Gripping readers by the throat, it won’t let go until you flip the very last page....more

It’s always an exciting time with J.D. Robb released a new book and FORGOTTEN IN DEATH marks the fifty-third installment in this series. As always, Eve is ready for action when another murder happens. This time, two bodies are involved, however the timing and details are very different. Robb excels at creating mysteries that haven’t been done before and this one is a very good example of that. While some may argue that the killer is easy to figure out, my main joy in reading this series is learning the why. Of course, finding out who killed the victims is important. However, the reasoning behind it all is what makes this series stand out to me. I think it’s also the reason why Robb can write so many different books in this series and still keep it fresh. It’s not about only creating intriguing characters, but the motives and method all play a part in the uniqueness of this series.
That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Eve’s adventures have become quite comforting for me. I find myself always looking forward to these books and never being disappointed in them. They stay true to the original idea, but Robb always reinvents herself in so many fun and exciting ways. It’s always been a joy to revisit this series time and time again. If you haven’t read this series, then you are definitely missing out! FORGOTTEN IN DEATH is definitely be a memorable experience once you’ve read it!...more

J.D. Robb’s In Death series is one of those series that I love to read no matter what the season is. I’m always in the mood to read about Eve and Roarke and in this latest installment to the series, we see how a lover’s quarrel can result in a disastrous event.
The main couple of the book, Eve and Roarke, have always been my favorites. But in this particular one, there seems to be less of a focus on Roarke and his relationship with Eve. Instead, Robb spends more time on the mystery as well as some other the secondary cast whom I also adore. Having these developments with their characters truly makes this book feel more full. I think it also gives readers something enjoyable to read even as the gruesome details of the mystery and murders are played out. It creates a wonderful balance that makes this book a lot easier to read.
I would have loved to see more of Roarke in this book, but then again, I always wish for more Roarke. All in all, FAITHLESS IN DEATH is another solid installment in the series, fusing together love and death in a seamless way. Only J.D. Robb can write a story that’s as detailed and thrilling as this book is....more

J.D. Robb can literally do no wrong! In the latest installment in the In Death series, Ever and Roarke are once again presented with a nasty murder in Washington Square Park, they are forced to work together to catch a killer. What’s interesting about this case is that Roarke seems to have caught a glimpse of the killer and he’s a man that he doesn’t want to mess with.
Tasked with finding out of these two are linked somehow, Eve will have her hands full. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Not only did it delight me to see Eve and Roarke together, but having this strange shadow in the background added another sense of mystery to the plot. I can honestly say that this book blew me away. I have no idea how Robb is able to come up with unique stories with so many books already in the series, but I always look forward to a new In Death book and can’t recommend it enough to others. Robb hits an incredible milestone with the 50th book of the In Death series. As one of my all-time favorite beloved series, I still can’t believe that Robb has been able to pen so many interesting and engaging books in one series.
In GOLDEN IN DEATH, a mysterious package is delivered to a physician who then opens it and dies of the toxins that escapes from it. The golden egg really fit the concept of this book and like I said, I find that Robb is consistently able to bring interesting concepts to this series that have never been done before. It’s an incredibly feat, considering that there are rarely ever overlaps and all the ideas are original.
I really loved this book. The pacing, as always, is on point, never letting up until the very last page. I have enjoyed the journey that Eve has gone through and find that I can relate to her the most out of all the heroines I’ve read about. And of course, there is Roarke, who is simply one of my favorite heroes of all time. I just adore how understanding and supportive he is of Eve and her career. It’s so inspiring to see their love grow and see their cooperation as they work on various cases together.
The mystery and romance is balanced well and there’s enough suspense to keep readers on their toes. This series continues to get better and now, I can’t imagine my bookshelves without Eve and Roarke on them.

I’m in awe of J.D. Robb’s writing ability. With forty-five instalments in this series already, Robb is still able to come up with complex and unique ideas. This time a blooming actress is killed in a dark theatre. Stabbed by ice pick is the weapon of choice, which leaves a lot of suspects for Eve because it’s such a popular weapon. I like the way she’s able to set up the scene immediately and there’s no stalling when it comes to the murder. It’s swift and precise, and actually, so is the rest of this book. In fact, the opening chapter of this book is one of the best I’ve read in a while. It gives just a enough so that the reader is intrigued and will stick around to see what else is there.
Robb injects this book with a little twist that I thought was really smart. It’s not necessarily a new idea, but it fits this story very well with the theatre and actress victim. Plus, it opens up a lot of possible suspects, making this one a tricky one to solve. I love the way she’s so easily able to provide depth to each of the suspects. Everyone has incredible backstory and motive and for me, this is what makes Robb’s books stand out. Her characters, even the secondary ones, are really well-written.
Of course we see a little of Roarke and the rest of the crew. I love coming back to this series to catch up with these guys. It makes things fun and actually, despite the fact that this is a murder mystery book, I find a lot of comfort in reading this series.

Every now and then I need my Eve and Roarke fix, so I was pretty much dying by the time I got this book in my hands. Things take a dark turn when Larinda Mars, a professional gossip, is murdered in one of Roarke’s hotspots. As it turns out, she experienced an altercation right before her death and now Eve is on the hunt to find out how she was killed. But as the secrets start to come out, she learns that Larinda was actually a blackmailer. She had a lot of people in her hands, which means that any one of them could have ended her. It’s up to Eve to process and eliminate before someone does the same to her.
SECRETS IN DEATH doesn’t mess around. I consider Robb an expert at writing these police procedural books because each case is so very different from one another yet there’s also some familiarity with it as well. As Eve and Peabody go through the motions, you can’t help but learn from them. I love the pacing of this book. Each chapter is a great step forward in both characterization and plot. I find it fascinating that Robb can make us care about a woman who isn’t particularly well-liked because it shows just how good she is at characterization.
I continue to fall in love with the cases that Robb comes up with. They are all so unique and timeless. This book definitely makes me excited for the next one....more

I never thought I would ever say that mystery and murder are comforting for me but there’s something about coming back to this series that makes me feel at home. Whether it’s hearing Roarke’s silky Irish voice or listening to Eve complain about something girly, it’s always a treat to return to this world.
After Roarke and Eve attend a fancy dress party, they are on their way home when they encounter a woman wandering around the streets alone. She is disoriented, bloody and bruised. It takes Eve only seconds to determine that she was beaten and raped and Roarke requires no prompt to call it in. They soon discover that she may not be alone, that there might be someone else she was with who might be in trouble. Further investigation leads Eve and Roarke to the woman’s mansion where they find her husband’s dead body, all their safes robbed and something else far more devastating.
As Eve digs deeper, she is discovering more and more about this couple. Although I enjoy the banter between Eve and Peabody and the romance between her and Roarke, it’s the cases that make me come back each time. I love the way Robb approaches each story. She starts of with an inciting incident that not only creates intrigue, but there’s always various layers to it as well. For example, the victim in this case is a rich surgeon who is respected in his work but not very well-liked socially. You’ll find a lot of crime stories who tend to feature the victims as just that. They’re poor, sad souls who have been taken away so soon. But here the victim is an asshole, and I think this creates a far more interesting storyline than just serving justice.
There are no slow parts to this book. Every word is perfectly calibrated so that it furthers the story in some way. I’m still amazed that Robb is able to come up with storylines that haven’t been done before. If you’ve been thinking about trying this series, I highly suggest you pick up any one to try. These books are mysteries, therefore, each story stands well on its own. You’ll miss a bit of the personal relationships in the series, but it’s nothing to fret over. There’s not much development in those areas, especially with the latter books in the series. So again, if you haven’t read this series yet, you’re seriously missing out on some delicious and interesting mystery books out there....more
