This is the third book in Coble's Rock Harbor series and I've enjoyed all of them. Coble skillfully weaves suspense, romance, and faith in her books. It pulls us into the exciting and, sometimes heartbreaking, lives of a canine search-and-rescue team. This story revolves around a secret operation in a cave on Michigan's Upper Penninsula, an operation that someone is willing to murder to disrupt. At the same time, the life of a member of the search team is in danger. The main character, Bree Nicholls must solve both mysteries before more lives are lost. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romantic suspense story. Note: although this book can be read as a stand-alone story, I recommend that the series is read in order for a richer sense of the characters and the setting....more

In spite of the risk to her career and to her life, April is determined to clear Jason's name and to expose the sheriff.

L'Engle creates a believable almost-sixteen girl, Vicky Austin, who, along with her family, struggles as she watches the deterioration of her grandfather from cancer.
In the midst of her struggle, she is pursued by three young men: Leo, a family friend who now seeks romance, Zachery, a troubled young man who sees Vickie as a person he can depend upon to bring normalcy into his life, and Adam, her brother's coworker at the marine-biology station, whose work with dolphins fascinates her.
When Adam introduces Vicky to the dolphins, he discovers she has a natural telepathic power that can help him with his experiments in dolphin communications.
As the summer passes, Vickie must deal with life, loss, love, and confusion about her feelings for the three young men in her life. She finds solace in her poetry but, when her worst fear becomes reality, she finds she needs the love of others to overcome her grief.
Madeleine L'Engle's story has the drama of vividly portrayed characters and events of the spiritual and moral dimensions of common human experiences.
I highly recommend this book to youth and adults, alike. ...more

The first story, The Chopin Manuscript, flows seamlessly into the second, The Copper Bracelet.
In The Chopin Manuscript, Harold Middleton finds a previously unknown score by Frédéric Chopin. He is unaware that the manuscript contains a dangerous secret hidden in Chopin's handwritten notes that threatens the lives of thousands of Americans. He reunites a group, the Volunteers, that once pursued war criminals, to protect the manuscript, to discover the secret, and to keep it out of the hands of those who would use it for their deadly plan.
In The Copper Bracelet, Harold Middleton and the Volunteers return to pursue a terrorist group that plots to destroy the tenuous peace between India and Pakistan and to throw the world into nuclear war. The group races to find a devious terrorist called the Scorpion and to stop the plot to destroy the world's governing and economic systems.
Each author stays true to their unique writing style as they create a seamless, action-packed story of suspense and intrigue. They introduce new characters and fill each chapter with unexpected twists and turns. Once you start this book, it's almost impossible to put down.
This is a secular book and there is a smattering of profanity and some violence. I highly recommend Watchlist to anyone who loves fast-paced, action-packed stories....more

The Crane family, devastated by infidelity, moves to an old house in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Soon, they learn that the house is free from time restrictions and people who lived there in the past and even in the future cross paths with the family. The Cranes slowly move from pain to healing to forgiveness when tragedy strikes - their young son is missing. The threads of healing and forgiveness run through this touching story.

How do we fight an enemy who desires to separate us from God? “Intentional Warfare, Winning the Daily Spiritual Battles,” seeks to answer these questions. Mary Scro’s goal is to alert believers to the enemy’s attacks and to guide them to become battle ready. She encourages the reader to be intentional about training for battle.
Scro uses the acronym W A R F A R E to outline the aspects of battle training and the weapons that enable believers to be victorious in their daily lives. This structure makes the principles she teaches easy to understand and to implement.
I enjoyed how Scro wove scripture and personal experience in a way that enabled me to relate to her struggles and to gain confidence in my ability to be victorious. Questions at the end of each chapter encouraged me to apply the lessons to daily life.
This book increased my understanding of spiritual warfare and better prepared me for the battles I face each day. I recommend it to believers who want to become more aware of the enemy’s tactics and better trained to win the day-to-day battles.

That is the questiTwo homicides have rocked the city of Houston. Are they the work of a serial killer, or is a copycat trying to get away with murder?
That is the question facing Special Agent Bethany Sanchez, who is eager to begin her assignment in violent crime but anxious about meeting her new partner. Special Agent Thatcher Graves once arrested her brother, and he has a reputation for being a maverick. Plus, their investigative styles couldn't be more opposite: he operates on instinct, she goes by the book.
When hot leads soon fizzle out, their differences threaten to leave them deadlocked. But an attempt on their lives turns up the heat, bringing them closer together, while new evidence suggests a shocking twist to the case.
As usual, Mills has written a fast-paced story. Deadlock wasn't as intense as the previous books in her FBI:Houston series. The story focused on the contentious relationship between Sanchez and Graves. Mills richly developed the two characters and how the blend of their two styles led to a more effective investigation.
Deadlock is a fun read. The plot interweaves the action with the conflict between Agents Sanchez and Graves. Mills skillfully develops a plot with twists and turns that leaves you guessing to the end. ...more

Jane Hampton Cook has written a sweeping, riveting tale across forbidding oceans and frozen tundra. Cook has crafted a spell-bounding history that's easy to understand and reads like a gripping novel. She tells the story through the narratives of John and Louisa's diaries and letters and paints an intimate picture of their struggles and victories. Banished to Russia because of his unpopular political views, John and Louisa's diplomatic work secured the future of the young United States.
If you love history, this book is a rare jewel. It is the most captivating historical book I've read. I grew to know and respect John and Louisa, their emotions and struggles with their situation. From John's determination as the ambassador to Russia to Louisa's sorrow at her separation from her sons and her confusion at the working of the Russian court, this is story of humanity in and among the dangers of politics. All history buffs will be caught up in it. ...more

His call conflicted with her own When Marcia Moston's husband cane home with a call to foreign missions, she was sure that God had the wrong, number. His call conflicted with her own dreams, demanded credentials she didn't have, and required courage she couldn't seem to find. She promised to follow where God led, but she never thought the road would lead to a Mayan village on a Guatemalan mountainside.
From the treacherous road trip to their new village home, to learning to navigate a new culture, to a stateside mission field in Vermont, Moston's journey reveals that God leads just as clearly as he did in biblical times. Her candid account tells a story of learning to trust and obey when faithfulness seems foolish.
Written with humor and insight, Call of the Coward is an engaging reminder that with our very real God in control, cowards become courageous and ordinary people find great purpose.
I love this book! It's written in a conversational style, almost like Marcia's sitting with you. It's an honest portrayal of her feelings and her faith as she grasps God's will and surrenders to it. It was fun to read and yet it challenged my faith. I think everyone would enjoy it. ...more

The inheritance of a decaying Gilded Age hotel on North Carolina’s Outer Banks may provide just the ray of hope she needs. But things at the Excelsior are more complicated than they seem. Whitney’s estranged stepfather is entrenched on the third floor, and the downstairs tenants are determined to save the historic building. Searching through years of stored family heirlooms may be Whitney’s only hope of quick cash, but will the discovery of an old necklace and a Depression-era love story change everything?
This is my favorite of Lisa Wingate's books. This story was steeped in history and I was drawn into Alice's world told through the old letters Whitney found in the Excelsior. Lisa developed Whitney as a rich character, dealing with past pain and present crises. She was torn between doing what would save her business or what was best to do for the people of Outer Banks and for her heritage. When I read the last page, I felt like I was saying goodbye to a friend.
If you like Lisa Wingate's books, you will love The Seakeeper's Daughters. If you are new to Lisa's books, I highly recommend this one. ...more
