I have always been interested in geology and this book is about how the Florida Keys came to be.
Not only does it talk about the Keys themselves but also the surrounding reefs and what is happening to them. It starts off with the Pleistocene era and that topography that shapes the coral reefs, the weather that helped and now the rise in the sea level due to global warming.
It is a very technical book and at times hard to read but it does have good pictures and maps to help the reader....more

I wanted to learn more about the Everglades and the Florida Keys and this book had a lot of the answers to what was there to see in the Keys and the Everglades.
It broke it down into parts and even gave a brief history of how the area was formed. There were a couple of sections on the Everglades north and south of the park, and then the ark itself. The Keys were broken in the the upper, middle and lower keys, with Key West and the Dry Tortugas National Park, a chapter by itself.

This is not just for the hiker, but for the hunter, fisherman, and outdoor enthusiast as well. It speaks of the danger of the big corporations destroying what we have gained through the years, by presidents who saved lands for future generations and those who destroy what was done just to please those corporations (such as the mining and oil industry) wanting to make the big buck, the almaighty dollar.
For those that have been to Yellowstone Park or the Grand Canyon, would you want to see a nasty hole in the ground or an unsightly oil well to mar the beauty? It's all up to us to save what we have....more

I have hiked through a lot of the National Parks and grasslands, and have seen the beauty of it all. I am for keeping our lands that way and not let the oil companies and others ruin it all.
Mark Kenyon gives a lot of history about how a lot of the lands came to be. Interspersed throughout the book, are Mark's stories about his hiking, fishing and hunting. And yes there is politics throughout the book also--those that were for keeping the public lands and those that were and are against it.
If you are one that loves the outdoors in any form (hiking, fishing, hunting and ATVs), read this book. It will open your eyes to what is going on. ...more

The dead body belongs to a pet clothing tycoon and rumors have been flying that the fabric that he used causes dogs and cats to break out with itching.
Is that the reason why he was killed? Or is there something else, considering he left very little in his will to his family. And what about Holly and Holmes? (the two grandmas have something up their sleeves there).
