To read the first 10 pages due to tone. It was just tooooo different to most mythical adventure stories. Which was entirely the point. This is a light and fluffy D&D like romp, but used words like “yeet” and Nachos exist. But after my brain finally accepted the juxtaposition of modern slang/food stuffs with the medieval high fantasy setting, I buckled in for an enjoyable little romp.
Also I feel that some of my issues were that the writer hadn't found her flow yet, as it did smooth out.
I didn't dislike Cin. I didn't dislike Fallon. The side characters weren't bad at all.
Oddly the smexy times between Cin and Fallon felt… Forced. Mostly from Fallon's side. The whole dominant behaviour just felt forced. (But that could entirely be my own hangups due to the whole Neil Gaiman bdsm SA assault news coming out right now. Which has absolutely nothing to do with this author at all, I'm just saying that my feelings about that part of the story might have been clouded due to that.)
All in all I enjoyed it, and I will read the next one. ...more

Sadly I waited too long to review this one. And I even read another book since. This was my first dip back into The Hollows for so so so many years. I can’t recall why I stopped reading, it wasn’t because of any reason other than there were just other books that got ignored first. And I think I wanted to read them in physical form, but hadn’t gotten it or something like that.
Either way, it was an enjoyable dip back into the world of Rachel, Ivy, and Jenks (though Rachel was not in this one).
There was a time where I did feel confused, and wondered if I had missing pages, but I don’t think I did, and that could have just entirely been my own brain not functioning.
I will admit, it's been a very long time since I was last in the Parasol universe. It felt like a good idea to dip my toe back in with a novella. ActuI will admit, it's been a very long time since I was last in the Parasol universe. It felt like a good idea to dip my toe back in with a novella. Actually, that's all I have left of the main series. When I finally finish these, I will be going to the spin off series.
It was enjoyable to read, and it did tie in nicely with the final book if I remember correctly.
I just don't much care for Alexa's father, who was the main character in this one. To be honest, if I really remember correctly I've never been fond of her father, even though he wasn't a prominent character. I guess that makes me Team Supernatural instead of Team Kill Them All (or whatever the teams are.)...more
I feel like this was written by a screen writer who thought he would try his hand at writing a novel.

It flowed like a tv show, but I feel like this was written by a screen writer who thought he would try his hand at writing a novel.
And it didn't work.
It flowed like a tv show, but whereas sudden cut scenes work in television, in this it just felt extremely jerky.
I actually rolled my eyes at the whole Vlad the Impaler / Dracula very rushed part of it.
I don't actually feel like things were tied together at the end (unless all the mystical bits other than the cult witchblade goddess worshipers were in fact all Vlad.)
Whoops actually forgot hit post on this review. Just goes to show how much of an impression it put on me. I did have other thoughts regarding the plot etc, but they have escaped me now.
I'm being generous and giving it 3 stars because I love Witchblade even after all these years....more

Right off the bat thouMy first impression is that this is very wordy… prosey. But then that is exactly what reading an Andrzej Sapkowski book is like.
Right off the bat though, I wish I didn’t fear making sourdough starter. I love a good sourdough (like the rest of the world, I started to make one during lockdown, but I was pregnant, and I just couldn’t handle feeding it without wanting to vomit. I haven’t tried since.).
And I don’t even like kale, but the first actual recipe has me wanting to make it for my workday lunches. (The White Orchard Inn Groats with Bacon)… I even already have some Pearl Barley in my pantry.
Somehow I completely forgot that I was taking notes while reading through this, and I do mean reading.
If you hate those cooking blogs that have an entire backstory before you finally get to the recipe, do not read this book. I found it delightful, but I cannot believe how long it took me to read a cook book as I was only able to read one page at a time whilst doing other things. Normally I flick through a recipe book rather quickly all in one session. I really did actually like that _every single_ recipe had a page worth of story to go with it.
Well done. And actually a few recipes that I would happily try. ...more

I found 77/Drew to be offputtingly annoying with his…. Entire personality. Too aggressive. Too Angry for no good reason. Too.. frankly his masculinity was too fragile. Honestly if I ever met someone like that in real life, I would be so annoyed.
Whatshername…. (it’s been a few days since I read it)… her entire personality was that she was ‘old’. I don’t remember how old, but for the sake of all PNR/ER books, I’m going to assume she was minimum in her 30s, since that is when women in these books are over-the-hill. She might have *gasp* even been 40. But yup, her entire personality was that she was old.
The Hoppers/planet reminded me of bad Starship Troopers fanfiction.
Not at all sure if I will continue the series. ...more

I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get into this one due to the dialect, but I did and it was quite enjoyable! Maura is an interesting character. A little bit tooooo good at anything asked of her, but not annoyingly so and appropriate for story so it stayed away from feeling Mary Sue-ish.
Quy is loveable, if a little too much of his own problem.
Biskweet was adorable and as someone who loves Martins and other small long bodied furry animals I totally want one of my own. Maura using Biskweet as a pillow conjured up memories from my childhood where I would wake up in the middle of the night to find my pillow missing, but a small dog in it's place.
I can't recall at the typing of this if this became an abandoned series by our beloved author or not, but I certainly hope not as I found it quite enjoyable and want to play in the universe much more....more

Not only did I find myself interested in his story (though it did take me a little bit to get into it), I actually found myself rooting for him, AND sad about the way things were working.
It didn't feel like fan service. It didn't feel like anything was actually being shoehorned in. It felt natural. And I felt it fully enriched the existing story (ie Katniss's story). Nor did it contradict existing lore, or characters. So basically the complete opposite of the travesty that was a certain bigoted author's wizarding story with the prequel Fantastic Beasts.
I started reading this on a cruise that my husband gifted me for my big number birthday. I found myself looking forward to returning to my cabin and snuggling in with my book. It did take me a while, but that's because I've still got two young children and finding time to sit down and read a book that isn't for them is quite difficult. ...more

Star Wars books are always an absolute delight. The narration is top notch. The story is engaging. The sound effects enhance instead of distract.

I have to admit I was a little surprised about who was killed in this book. I'll hide my thoughts behind spoilers. (view spoiler)[Honestly I thought the other women were going to be rescued (or at least one of them) and she was going to get her own pair of Monkeys. And I was genuinely surprised that Mike was killed off, but I can also see why... It's a sad state of affairs that anyone not 100% not disabled will get killed off so that they don't slow down plot.
Also long term thought... I think Silo's wife is probably going to end up with Papa after they eventually rescue her. (hide spoiler)]...more

This was SO good. Honestly, I loved it. I loved seeing the original trilogy events from the eyes of not the original characters. So we actually got to see the perspective of everyone else. It was neat actually seeing Luke, Han, Leia, Mon Mothma, Grand Moff Tarkin, Lord Vader etc all from the eyes of other people.
It amused me that Thane wasn't too impressed with Luke.
(view spoiler)[OMG from a modern perspective, was the ship that Rey lived in/salvaged the ship at the end? How cool is that! (hide spoiler)]
