Serena wasn't annoying, which is important to me in these books. Her sister however was, but that was due to her issues, which is the whole point. Hugo was likeable. And the 12 years later was quite interesting. I will be happy to start reading the proper series. I have read the first book in a different series by this author and I rather like her writing, so I imagine I will like this series....more

Sadly I waited too long to review this one. And I even read another book since. This was my first dip back into The Hollows for so so so many years. I can’t recall why I stopped reading, it wasn’t because of any reason other than there were just other books that got ignored first. And I think I wanted to read them in physical form, but hadn’t gotten it or something like that.
Either way, it was an enjoyable dip back into the world of Rachel, Ivy, and Jenks (though Rachel was not in this one).
There was a time where I did feel confused, and wondered if I had missing pages, but I don’t think I did, and that could have just entirely been my own brain not functioning.
I will admit, it's been a very long time since I was last in the Parasol universe. It felt like a good idea to dip my toe back in with a novella. ActuI will admit, it's been a very long time since I was last in the Parasol universe. It felt like a good idea to dip my toe back in with a novella. Actually, that's all I have left of the main series. When I finally finish these, I will be going to the spin off series.
It was enjoyable to read, and it did tie in nicely with the final book if I remember correctly.
I just don't much care for Alexa's father, who was the main character in this one. To be honest, if I really remember correctly I've never been fond of her father, even though he wasn't a prominent character. I guess that makes me Team Supernatural instead of Team Kill Them All (or whatever the teams are.)...more

It was a highly amusing second epilogue. Though the narrator felt... weird for the part. It sounded more like the narrator for Simon R Green's Nightside novels (Marc Vietor, not the newer one).
But all in all, enjoyable and kept me entertained while knitting before picking up the kiddos after I finished work and after their school....more

A few little spoilers for books not yet read, which I found a wee bit frustrating as I didn't have much of a choice in listening to it as it was built into the very end of the audio file I had. Oh well, I mean I already knew at least one of the couples that was mentioned. ...more

I would gladly listen/read to the rest of the series.
Unfortunately I listened to it right before going on holiday, so now everything else about it has gone right out of my brain.

I don't know if it's my suspected ADHD brain, but I found this very difficult to read. Might have been the black and white, and just very chaotic art. But that is totally a me thing. Maybe I also just wasn't in the right mood.
Do I regret reading it? No.. Did I super enjoy it? Also no.

What can I say, once again these books are what they are. They are quick. They are repetitive. They are for a much younger audience than me, but I read them to my child and she enjoys them.

It was good. However, I had a lot of distractions going on, so I don't feel like I got the full enjoyment. I was amused though that I ended up listening to this immediately after Christmas.
I do love Paul McGann.

The hubby and I listened to this while we were prepping the house for some renovations, stopped it when the renovations started, and I threw it back on this morning while prepping for the final bit of the renovation all these months later.

I think my thought that I was thinking when listening to it is that it sounded like Sean Pertwee (or his Dad who was the Doctor Jon) but it was actually Peter Davidson, which amuses me even more.
The story was well done. The narration lovely. I'm not so familiar with that doctor, but what I have seen/heard I like.
