You just get many pages with the character trying to justify the vampires predatory behavior and a lot of exposition trying to clarify the confusing vampire world. After a hundred pages I didn't care anymore. If the story had come back in less ambitious ways to the initial plot scenario of the first part of the story, the main character could have somehow made things better and redeemed himself, but the story goes immediately to a huge war scenario where the first scenario is destroyed and nothing much matters anymore....more

One ofThis was entertaining and could be read in one summer day sitting. It's Bridget and the old fun crew, including Daniel who wasn't in the movie. One of the super funny lines was: "I was having a baby and Daniel was having a cliché." I'm in doubt which of the versions (book or movie) was my favorite. I'm ok with both versions and I'm also more than ok with the flaws all characters showed, including Mark. This made the story more real. ...more

The story only starts to go at a faster and more interesting pace after page 250, when the heroine finally starts to commit to her journey and Rhysand, the best character in this book, finally gets a more central role in the story. I'll be reading the next book in this series only to know what will happen to this likable antagonist. On my last note, I could guess the first riddle of Amaranth as soon as I read it so it was a bit unlogical that the heroine would take so long to answer it. Thankfully the other riddle she solved was a surprise.
On rereading this first book I liked it better, because then I could see the foreshadowing for the plot twists on ACOMAF and what wasn't so well fiting in this book gets better explained....more

Blue with the clairvoyant mother and her friends and the raven boys. That said I think that things moved at a much slower pace than most YA books I've read lately, not many answers were given at the end and the characters seem to be still at the beginning of their journey. That said, an interesting and original book, but one that seemed to be only the introduction of a series for me....more

I would have liked if it would have been less focused on the relationship details and more on the science fiction itself, or if the pace would have been a bit faster. I found the kind of relationship depicted interesting though, it is seldom that you read a story where the effects of one of the partners working too much is talked about, therefore the rating of three stars....more
