I again felt a good connection between the H and h. Their meet cute was very different from what we’ve seen in this series. I also loved that the H wasn’t exactly nobility and was a merchant. Something I don’t think/feel I see enough if in HR. The only other shop owner I can think of is Lisa Kleypas’ Marrying Winterbourne. (Which in my opinion was the best in that series.)
The banter between Tarquin and Lily was fun as well. She was never afraid to stand up to him or of him. They were never intimidated by each other, but found the other more fascinating.
When it got to the sex scenes there were slight hints at D/s (very slight, that if you were not overly familiar with it you wouldn’t pick it up). And I found it so sexy. We very often see these dominate men always directing and ordering the scene around, but here we had Lily in charge and being worshiped while he’s literally at her feet/kneel multiple time. She tells him what to do. He calls her his Queen. I’m here for all of that of Scott would write a few more heroes like this.
I was sort of weirded out by the name of another character, Clementia, it was just too close to Dementia.
I am intrigued to go into the next book now that we’ve had a small glimpse at some things that Logan has maybe been up to, the past two years or so while away from his family. ...more

There is not a "right" way to be a sub so telling people there is, especially those not in the community it really harms those wanting to explore it. Also I'm tired of the "women can't be friends" troupe. Why did the author think it was a good idea to "other" anyone who wasn't white? Fetishizing native Americans, scared of black people, etc. just yuck! ...more

This has elements of BDSM and Master/slave dynamics, and though they (the characters) don’t call it BDSM I wanted to see a little more consent from the heroine. I’m not sure I liked the Master/slave dynamic since she’d been a sex slave (seems like concubine would have been a good term for her) since she was a teen. I think it would have been nice to see the consensual D/s relationship with her “title” for lack of a better word being something other than “slave”.
I would really like to have seen much more of her background and how being a slave since she was 6 and taken away from her mom affected her. How did she process the sex training? How did she process being used for sex or forced to seduce someone against her wants/will?
I did read this out of order since this book came recommended. I would be open to reading more in this series as well as the sequel series. It was quick and sexy.

Nora & Degash
I loved seeing their story through a story time to their daughters. I was happy the “spanking” Nora liked in book 3 (I think) was bright back into this story. Not all kink requires an unrealistic Dom/sub relationship in romance novels. I felt this came off as very realistic. My only issue was we didn’t get more of the kinky sexy times once they found what worked for them. It was sexy, steamy, spicy then BOOM! we’re back in their hut for story time with Anna & Elsa.
Probably one of my favorites in the series even if it wasn’t the deepest. ...more

Unmistakable undertones of The Handmaid's Tale, it wished they weren't so blatant. I went into this book with high hopes, I LOVED Blackwood and have been wanting another Celia Aaron book that could live up to it.
Unfortunately there was so much going on that I felt like nothing was flushed out very well in the short span of this book, or novella since it really is very short. We have:(view spoiler)[ cult, hostage(s), murder mystery, microchip that works as BC and GPS (like what?!), on going rape by the spinners, cult as a front for drug trafficking, absentee dad, druggie mom, abusive dad, sexually abusive stepdad, anti-hero, abusive hero, LGBT romance in hiding, escape plot, non-con/dub-con between the anti-H and h, pseudo BDSM, devil worship (WTF), sibling dynamics. (hide spoiler)]
The heroine isn't sure she can truly trust her "Protector" but she also fears when he's not around. He's not a good man and he's not good to hear. The Protectors in general are not at all what their title implies. There is also a huge age difference between the heroine and the anti-hero. The heroine is also written like someone much older than her 21 years. This is often an issue with New Adult the genre. She should be finishing up college (she does mention she attends) not here where she is, so it all seems a bit off. There was also a bit of a continuity issues with the anti-hero's age. The age difference between he and his brother puts him at about 35 but towards the beginning of the book it implied he was 30 so there is that issue as well.
Some more editing would have really helped this book and the author try to decide what points she really wanted to focus on instead of trying to fit 20 different plot points in as well as working out the continuity issues that occasionally crept up. Not to mentioned, it's the first book in the trilogy but it's so short the author should have just written one full length book, charged full price for it, and made it more cohesive and it would have probably been better over all than a story in three parts.
If you'd not read it don't. Stick with Blackwood, it's far superior and flushed out and well rounded with no cliffhanger or anti-heroes who don't know what they want. ...more

It's the first in a series that I happened to got one of the books for free so I went ahead and bought the others so I could read them in order. But this book had so many issues I ended up skimming the last half of it.
I know this book is 10 yrs old and BDSM has become much more popular but still to imply any kind of D/s relationship isn’t “real” or a sub isn’t a “real sub” because it’s not the relationship you’re (the hero, if you can call him that) looking for is way off and very off if one knows anything about the BDSM community. The heroine wants to explore BDSM and D/s this book paints a really poor picture of BDSM along with anything "kinky". Giving it a “She can’t possibly know what she wants from sex, she’s just a woman” vibe along with “women don’t go looking for kinky sex until a man shows it to them”.
It continues to have a very condescending and negative towards women, BDSM, subs along with the LGBTQ community throughout.
I'm not sure what this book/author hoped to accomplish other than painting a picture of an abusive and manipulative relationship along with showing exactly what BDSM is NOT.
BDSM should involve safe, sane, and consensual acts (sexual or otherwise) this book is not that and shouldn't be viewed as a reflection of it. ...more

This made it feel/seems as if the author had made error or had continuity issues until something was explained more than half of the book later.
I was pulled in from the get go and didn't want to put this book down even though real life had other plans. It's told in alternating POVs from all four main charters which I wasn't sure I would like but I didn't mind and loved being able to see the story from all of them and not just from one perspective. So many times in first person story telling in erotica/erotic romance we just get the story from the female and often don't know truly what our hero(s) are thinking or feeling. I know recently I've a barrage of these and more often than not have not enjoyed the heroes. But this time around I loved all three of the guys.
Though this arrangement between the 4 of them was entered into (aside from the initial scene) consensually as a game of sorts where they (the guys) would all take turns with Chella I liked that the game actually had rules to it. It wasn't just a free for all f**k fest, very intriguing. There were a few points early on that it seems like a little bit of it was more head games than I was expecting based on the agreement and I'm not a huge fan of manipulation/degradation but it really wasn't. It was more everyone finding their place/stride.
I do like how it ended, I know a few people felt it was rushed but I don't think so it was that rush. I wouldn't have minded more of course because I was loving it. But it had it's big revelation (or 2) and it ended. There was a slight cliffhanger but only for a lead up to the next book not for the ending of this book....more
