I ended up liking Jenny much more than I was expecting. I didn’t really feel one way or another about her previous ti this book, so I’m glad I liked her.
I also liked that it’s one of the zombie dragons that falls for her. I would really like to hear more of their stories.
I’m taking a break on this series since I’ve got one book left and I have no desire to read a romance where Azar is the hero. I’m just not sure a slave owner and murder can be redeemed enough for me....more

I liked the idea of the “Pa3.5 rounded up for bringing more inclusivity to the series and not skipping over the issues with the rift for another book.
I liked the idea of the “Panty Program”, this could almost be its own series, or a spin off series.
I would like an older heroine. They’re all late teens or early twenties and it just seems odd that in the seven years in the After they’d all be that age. Also what age are the dragons/drakoni?
I liked the uniqueness of how Rachel stumbled upon Jurik. Wish they would have revisited that. The slumbering lazy dragon totally should have been played into more as well.
I’m not looking forward to Azar’s book so I’m sad to see this series end. I can only hope Ruby is inspired to write more in this series or universe down the line. ...more

There was all this build up of some issues between the two MCs (Teva who is a female drakoni and Gabe, a human who had a blood transfusion with Liam's blood), but it just never went anywhere and they were suddenly past all of it. I couldn't fully understand why they were pulling apart from one another and what was truly the issue. It seemed to be fixed with sex, which was also something that was an issue for them, so it seemed an odd way to "fix" everything. It was also very heartbreaking for Teva to find her brother and him not to even care.
I really wanted this to be a strong book like the first 3-4 but it seems that Ruby lost the muse for this series part way through which, of course is disappointing since I really love the world building and post apocalyptic setting.
Also like 2 books ago there was talk of some unforeseen "bad thing" that was coming to earth and then nothing about it for 2 books.

This was much longer than the other books by this author that I've read, and I enjoyed that. It allowed something to be a little deeper, more back story for our heroine and the world she lives in.
The story was enjoyable and we can see through the heroine the dilemma of being with "the enemy". It's realistic that it would be something hard for a person in that situation to wrap their mind around. Other beings sent to earth with no understanding of why on either of their parts leading to a post apocalyptical earth with the majority of the population wiped out. But we do get a few glimpses into the dragons/drakoni and we see that the destruction was not what they would have chosen either.
I was surprised to see about 90% of the book was told from Claudia's POV. It was odd that it wasn't more 50/50 between our hero and heroine. It would have made more sense to either write it entirely in first person from Claudia's or written in third person. I hope this is not a new trend by this author. It didn't really give us much insight into Kael. Other than they were mates and he's protect, her, care for her, etc. I never felt like he fell in love with her. This is where either having more of his POV or the book be in third person would have come in handy....more

Debated rating it 3 and rounding up or 4 and rounding down. I didn’t I didn’t dislike any if the main characters. It just took me awhile to read so I had a hard time focusing on the story. That doesn’t mean it was bad, I just wasn’t constantly craving it. It had also been awhile since I read the first three books in this series so I couldn’t recall some details I think would have helped me feel more into the story.
I am glad she finally started to let her walls down (literally and figuratively), but I would have liked more of that sooner.
Really disappointed that after the prologue there is no real mention of Dale’s parents. They know what she is when she comes into her powers. How long has she been at The Academy? Are her parents still alive? Does she see them on holidays or have weekly dinner with them?
I know JG says some of her series don’t sell as well so she doesn’t write them as frequently or often not at all, I feel like this must be one of those series and she’s so times just phoning it in which is really disappointing for those of us who love her less read series. :( ...more

This is the second book in the Prison series, and this series is just not coining it for me. The books are too long without enough cohesiveness. With the BDB books the reader is drawn in and can picture each character, the settings, the feel of surroundings, these books, not so much. All of the prison stuff is so discombobulated too. The being “running” keeps being killed but everyone is still locked up, sort of. Some can come and go.

I felt this book had a better resolution to the heroine ending up living a completely different life. She gets to “get her shit” from her old life etc., but Lenore who was worried about who her mom would spend Christmas with had no mention in the first book about her life prior to become the Sacrifice after she decides to stay.

I read this for a Dark Erotic group read. It was neither. Not even close.
This was written with a high YA feel to it. If the talk of sex was removed it would be 100% a YA Hunger Games wanna be type book with more sarcasm and humor. It seems that book just could not really figure out what it wanted to be. But in no way was it a romance or "reverse harem" (if that's even a good term to use for a ménage with multiple men and one women). The guys are awful, I wanted more of the focus on the main female since we see the whole book through her POV. I needed her to focus less on the guys that don't care about her.
Quite a few inconsistencies as well. Right at the beginning the main character states she doesn't know what she is, even if she is female or not but everything else in the story points to her knowing and acting as one. Just very odd to point that out right in the beginning when literally mentioned every other page throughout the book.
I don't think I'll be continuing the series. ...more

Darcy Coates knows how to make her books flow and keep the reader reading. I read about the last 2/3 tonight and finished it easily.
A few thing I didn’t like; the main one, especially as a romance reader, was the “I’m in love” so quickly. They hardly had any interactions and on his part it seemed mainly physical. It wasn’t really a believable romance but since this is a horror novel I didn’t knock it down much for that. Also if felt a little under developed. The characters weren’t deep enough. Plus way too much time in Sophie’s head with her thoughts.
I will most likely read the second book in this series while I wait for the next book in the Grave Keeper series....more

It was good but nothing going bump in the night like the blurb on the back makes you think. The spirits don’t whisper, she actually can’t hear them at all. They’re also not out to get her.
I enjoyed the ghost whisperer/medium aspect and am glad it’s a series (too bad the next book is so far away though). I’m looking forward to more but I’m glad I’ll know what they’re like going into them and not expecting them to be something they’re not.

I don’t read horror very often and didn’t feel this one was too scary though I had to read something lighter after it each evening before going to sleep but I’m sure it’s nothing for hardcore horror readers.
It’s touted as a apocalyptic novel, and I suppose it is, but it seems more like a things-that-go-bump-in-night novel.
It had three “horror” sub-genres to it: 1) Flowers In The Attic messed up family sh!t (I think this areas could have used more development) 2) Things that go bump in the night, this was the strongest aspect of the story 3) Apocalyptic level world catastrophe (some but again needed more)
I am looking forward to the next book in this series and seeing where it goes.

I’m not sure why it was listed as part of the Goode Girls/Victorian Rebels. It mentioned a marriage between two characters from those series but it’s not related to this story and could have been completely left out. Not to mentioned this book takes place 11 years after the death of said husband and that is ten years after the heroine’s tryst with him so that would have made her 5?! and that’s not what happens so a bit odd that. ...more
