This is a historical fiction novel with some fantasy. I should note that it is the first historical fiction novel I have ever read. And I enjoyed it. The 18th or 19th century English backdrop was really interesting.
I also really loved the characters. There weren't really any characters that I didn't like (aside from the obvious evil-doers). When some of the characters died (a handful of them do, sadly), I actually grieved for them a little. Not a lot, because they would be weird and obsessive. But the characters were really well-written and likeable. The main character, Lord Alfred Fitzwilliam, is such an intriguing and likeable character.
The dialogue between characters and even the narration proved to be rather witty and intelligent, which I greatly appreciated.
As the plot thickened, action and suspense (and a little gore, I'm proud to say) surfaced. It wasn't cheesy at all like many would expect from a new author. But I found it genuinely interesting and well-developed. There were some twists that you wouldn't expect, and those were really awesome.
Needless to say, I really enjoyed this book. I cannot wait for Sean Gibson's next release!
(No, he did not bribe me or guilt me into writing such a glowing review. It was seriously that good, which is impressive for a literary debut.)

I made dumb decisions and started reading the events out of order, so I was a little disoriented at the start of this but came around soon enough. SloI made dumb decisions and started reading the events out of order, so I was a little disoriented at the start of this but came around soon enough. Slow start, but I was really tearing through it by the end. Luckily I have book 2 already, so I’ll start that sooner than later....more

It offers very interesting insight into what the lives of some sex workers are like. Isa Mazzei has a way with words perfectly paired with her interesting and rare life experiences. I recommend this book to anyone interested in cam/sex work who doesn't mind sexually graphic descriptions and pro-sex work ideologies.
I also absolutely recommend Cam, as Isa was the main writer of that horror movie....more
Tom Taylor is a god between this and Injustice. This is the absolute best piece of "zombie" literature I have ever read. And I do consider this to be Tom Taylor is a god between this and Injustice. This is the absolute best piece of "zombie" literature I have ever read. And I do consider this to be fine literature. There were times my jaw dropped and times I was almost teary-eyed.
Absolutely recommended. Just as good the second time around!...more

Superman as an arrogant ultra-strong, amazing alien to be looked up to who is motivated almost entirely by a sense of morality that isn't explained even partially, and who is a ladies' man almost to a fault. Batman as an illogical, arrogant vigilante who exists almost exclusively to be a foil for Superman. Wonder Woman as a five-second character who lusts after Superman with the fire of a thousand suns. Literally, that's her whole thing. It's so weird and offended me partly because it was such a long read to be this bad.
The dialogue was terrible. The country diction was extremely overdone and not remotely genuine. Lines were repeated, but not in a well-written way. Like he would repeat the same line twice in a row way too many times through the book (Ex. but not from the book: "Too late for it all. Too late for it all.") Art ABSOLUTELY SUCKED.
Overall, it started off around 2 stars and went downhill hard. ...more
Still hanging on to this series, but this was kind of a weird volume. Felt more like a filler volume than anything of real importance. Like some stuffStill hanging on to this series, but this was kind of a weird volume. Felt more like a filler volume than anything of real importance. Like some stuff going on with Wonder Woman and a little of her history in this universe, same with the Flash. But the final issue did make me want to go ahead and read the Ground Zero issues. Wasn't sure (still not entirely sure) where they fit in....more
