This works for a classroom setting, as well, due to it's cultural nuances. The title word/sound is derived from the Arabic word tunjara, which means cooking pot.
The main character is a little cooking pot who convinces its mama to let it go to the market unattended. Trouble ensues when the pot keeps things that others put inside. Little pot doesn't realize what she is doing is wrong. Mama is disappointed when she realizes that her little pot is stealing from other people. She insists that little pot must give back what it has taken. Little pot runs off to the market to see what else people might give. But the angry owners catch up, the pot gets a very unpleasant surprise.
Needless to say, Little Pot finally learns the lesson and sticks close to Mama and home until old enough to know the difference between right and wrong....more

Why? It is a book about a spork, but it's rife with simplistic metaphors for societal attitudes towards blended families. It's heavy handed and stereotypes everyone and everything. And then it's all better at the end because a baby loves the spork?
A heavy handed message ending with nonsensical ending that has no parallel in the real world.

Because it is from the child's perspective and not an omnipotent one, it doesn't share as much about the situation of poverty and homelessness that it might otherwise convey. It may come off as a little trite, to some adults, but children will enjoy the story, and will gain a little insight into building projects.

There are, in fact, a few words at the very beginning of the book..."My grandpa always said, 'Everyone's got a story....you jus' gotta find out what it is.'"
Although the story's primary protagonist is the flower man, there are multiple stories in this wordless picture book. The central message of the story is how we touch one another's lives, but there are many lives, so there are many stories....more
