I rated the first one, There's Cake in My Future, 5 stars as well. The primary reason for my review is essentially for not only the plot line of the book but for the authors witty banter between the characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it! I have to admit, I was a little underwhelmed with the beginning of this book and then as I progressed it shifted to outstanding. The beginning was a little slow with the main character, Mel, going through somewhat of a slump and a mild depression. As she started to make decisions and follow her heart the book really took shape and became a five star read. I really enjoyed the message in the book as well... that life can be monotonous and seem old after a while and that dreams and paths are subject to change. Don't be stuck in a rut but do something that makes you happy even if it isn't what you originally had planned or THINK you should do! Proof in point is when Mel's best friend tells her at one point, when she realizes what big change she wants to make that will make her happy, that he would "like having someone around who is excited to go to the dry cleaner's." That quote alone shows that Mel finds herself and has made her life new again, that her journey to self discovery had led her to happiness. This was a fun book and I look forward to reading other books by this author. Side note: Now I really want to visit Hawaii!!! :P ...more

I loved how how the author developed the characters and I LOVED the main character's reserved, thoughtful, and yet witty no-nonsense way of looking at things and responses to those things that she realized were no longer (if ever?) making her happy (such as her life, her husband, etc.). This was such a fun book to read. I love how the author also switched between both her point of view and her husband's. I also loved the relationships that Les had and how they also developed. It was a satisfying book to read (the entire book, not just parts!) and I stayed up way to late reading it on a few nights and sneaked a few moments in my day to read a little snippet here and there. It was also one of those books that I thought about while I was between my reading time (I only usually get to read before bed). Such a great book and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a well thought out, fun, and easy read. Did I mention it was fun? :) ...more

I have to say that this series improves with each book. This book is just plain fun! It starts out where the last book leaves off with Freya in Salem during the beginning of the witch trials and I have to say I enjoyed both her perspective and that of those in present time trying to figure out how to get her back. I think that this was possibly the best book since the characters had been well developed and it was all about story and adventure. The beginning starts out at a slower pace and then the last half of the book it got hard to put down as the plot accelerated into a fun adventure. I was a little surprised how it ended (which I like) and I also like how everything was pretty much tied up by the end. The other thing I liked was that it was left open enough to perhaps welcome a continuation of the story. Please Ms. de la Cruz??? hee hee Note: The tv show is fun. The books are better! :)...more

It is a fast read because it is a PAGE TURNER and is hard to put down! The writing went back and forth between the two main characters and each chapter left me wanting for more (which is why I stayed up WAY too late reading it). This book was so creative and the storyline was very believable for a magical fantasy. The main character (the begrudging fairy "godsmother" Ash) was hilarious in his reluctance to accept his assignment as the first male fairy godmother. I also loved the gradual growth of Ash as he accepted what he was and how he saw himself. Self image was an issue for both him and his "assignment" (to whom he was supposed to grant 3 wishes to); him with his "coolness" and "stud" factor at risk, her with her recent scarring due to a traumatic car accident. As a young adult novel, it made it a really dimensional read with the dual character growth and lots of character development . All in all, this book ROCKED and I love how it left us with a teaser that implies there may be more books to come!!! Please let there be books to come!!! :) ...more
