Yes, it's Book #4 in the lineup; that should've said something about me landing smack-dab in the middle of an ongoing series, right? But I have started books further down the line in some series, and generally, don't find them too hard to follow.... This one gave me some trouble figuring out Who's Who? and then What's What? in this world and all that has happened to it so far.
As a result, it also took me a while to 'get' the character of Lauren. Frankly, she didn't impress me at first, because hello? she is hesitating between two men. While the circumstances are understandable, I wanted to waffle a lot less....and this thus led the story to pick up way into the chapters. I dunno why I didn't give up on this already, but something kept me reading and this, in turn, allowed me to take in this rather nice and sweet story about reunited lovers.
Didn't rock my world, but it was a pretty nice story to tuck down with. Got a feeling this would be even more enjoyable if one read the whole series beforehand and got to this one in the order it appears in the lineup, though.

After Midwife to Destiny, she takes us once more into the world I liked to dub 'Grey's Anatomy...in Africa.' Her writing is smooth and flows flawlessly, enrapturing you into her tale and the world of her hospital and the midwife and medical man.
I had been waiting for this story ever since meeting the characters in Ora's story, and Ms. Prah does not disappoint - in fact, she delivers even more in this tale. I loved the banter and interactions between the heroine and the hero. Though I did feel bad for Adam sometimes because of Esi's sharp tongue, and that woman doesn't pull back her punches! To see her fall for the real man Adam is underneath the veneer of the playboy was a joy to witness.
Definitely recommended!

I'll admit I found Sabrina from Boss Likes Curves a little too brash; it was hard to really like her especially at first, but the other heroines make up for this. Audrey is the kind of girl you'd want as a BFF right away, and her fashion savvy is refreshing, as is the bird's eye view of London Ms. Reed paints in this book. Eliza was another darling, though slightly ditzy, but with a good heart. The heroes - well, let's just say you could read these books just for the heroes *grin*
A good trilogy. Bit on the hot side, but the reads don't scrimp of characterization and conflict just for the sake of pushing heat throughout.

It was very humdrum, low-key paced, the romance wasn't over the top, no drama...but it was engaging nonetheless. I guess it could be the 'bubble' of lockdown, presented here without the horror of the pandemic and more along a nostalgic lens? Not many will agree this is what it was like for them - the horror was real for too many! - but with hindsight, reading this in 2024 when the world has settled back into normal (and not just the 'new normal' being pandered all along circa 2020), it's a nostalgic throwback to 'that' time and what it was like, little vignettes like loo paper being gone, the dearth of flour and yeast, Zoom calls, social distancing. I think this would be a very good book for anyone, say in another 10 or so years or more, who wants to know what 'it' was like during the pandemic - this is the book I'd point them to if they want an idea how country life was without veering straight into the horror that was Covid-19 generally in the world. The romance itself, it wasn't spectacular, but I wanted to see how these two would end up together. Gemma had her issues, and seeing her come into herself, accept 'her' truth along the way, it was endearing even though I wanted to throw the book (or one of her cushions!) at her for being so daft sometimes. Mabel the dog was always a highlight! In short, very nostalgic read - get it more for the country-life pandemic feel than for the romance, though....more

Delphie can be grating at times, and if I weren't so involved as to the countdown (what happens if she doesn't kiss Jonah before ten days are out???), I might've given up on this one. So glad I stayed. This story took turns and spins I didn't see coming, and it kept me on my toes. The characters are all quirky in their own way, adorable at times, and seeing the relationships form and build and then seeing them last was delightful. It's a short span of time, but so much is happening, yet it didn't feel rushed or impossible at all. (view spoiler)[My only peeve (and why this isn't getting five stars) is what happens towards the end of the book. It dragged a bit for me, kinda lost steam a little, which was a little anti-climactic after the exhilarating pacing I'd gotten used to throughout. (hide spoiler)] Still, it's a beautiful story that just allows you to disconnect and go for a fun spin with Delphie as her world opens up in ways she never could've imagined, and there was magic in there, I'm sure....more
