Voyager is my #1 favorite of all the Star Treks & although I know a lot about the show, actors, & characters through years of following it all, there was still so many new tidbits here -- especially about the special effects and the way the actors got along on set & how they approached playing each of their characters. Highly recommend this for any Voyager fan, it's so good!

They think trauma is a toy to keep handing down forever. But the fact that someone hurt you and tied you up in knots, doesn’t give you the right to do it to anybody else.”
I CRIED. New favorite in the series I think, but definitely not one of the more "stand alone" ones. I love where this series is going, love the way we're getting to see new worlds that have so much depth and life to them, LOVED learning about Seraphina's world and hope we get to see it as well as the Trenches explored more in future books. We definitely haven't visited water-related worlds enough!
Loved the lessons & bits about trauma here, in terms of both surviving & inflicting it. I feel like there was some foreshadowing here about stuff going on at Eleanor's school, so I'm wondering where that's going to go, but overall loved how this wrapped up so much!!

This feels like an episode of BLACK MIRROR! I loved the body horror, the slow build up of dread, the details about how much the main character cares for her parents and all they’ve had to deal with after coming to the US to provide her with a better life (I cried). It’s already being made into a TV adaptation by Constance Wu & the people behind YELLOWJACKETS, and I can’t freaking wait to watch. Super highly recommend!

I love the world & inclusivity here, and wish there were 10 more books in this line to gobble up. Nova & Tam are ADORABLE, I love them both a lot and love the magical stuff they got up to here. Despite being very cute and sweet, parts of this were creepy as well! ...more

I asked some friends for "bad mom" book recommendations to ~deal with my own trauma via fiction~ (lol), and among the titles given to me was this one. I'd read Sarah Gailey's UPRIGHT WOMEN WANTED earlier this year and really enjoyed it, despite the fact that it's not at all in my typical genre wheelhouse, so I was really excited to check this horror-y title out - horror definitely is my typical genre, & THE BOOK IS PINK!!
I went into this knowing nothing beyond that the mom "sort of sucked", and I think that's the best way to do it honestly. The lack of knowledge kept me on the edge of my seat, unable to gain solid footing, flipping the pages trying to fully flesh out a story being delivered to me in deliciously -and agonizingly - slow little bits.
The atmosphere here feels very southern gothic - dark and spooky for sure, but with a cloyingly sweetness not unlike lemonade on a humid summer day. I loved the way the house was described, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the relationship between Vera and her father - however unorthodox it or he may have been.
The full ending reveal GOT ME! I won't say too much about it because I don't want to spoil it, but I really loved how wild and intense things got, and how the story developed. It was weird and gross and fun and I just loved it, so good.
This has definitely solidified the author as a must-buy from me moving forward -- I don't even care what the genre is, because they've shown that they're able to handle whatever they do perfectly. I already have THE ECHO WIFE on my shelf, waiting to be read soon!...more

I especially love when stories are focused on women friendships, especially toxic or tragic ones - and this collection has so much of all that, omg. This was like HEAVEN to read, which is possible strange since the collection is so dark.
There's a little something for everyone here, too - body horror, cosmic horror, ghosts, possession. Each story started off in a way that had me immediately hooked, and I ended up finishing the entire collection in like 2 sittings 'cause I was so impressed with each story and couldn't wait for the next one.
Another thing I loved was that none of these stories were ones you'd expect - each one had me on my toes, not knowing where they'd go or what would happen as I read. Being able to nail that sort of tension without giving anything away until the author wants to takes skill.
Overall such a great collection, def gonna be one I recommend from here on out!
I have no idea what happened in this, but it broke my entire goddamn heart. I know the poetry style here isn't for everyone, but I've always been a fan & I feel like Rupi Kaur has improved with each book's release in both her writing and her cute illustrations - lots of themes of growth, and so good.
Also really important comments on lots of other stuff, obv - the ones on productivity stood out so much to me. Living a creative life that you've opted to monetize in certain ways is fucking exhausting, and this book captured the difficult parts of it so well, plus with some notes on how worthy we are as people even when we're not producing content/art.

Gwendolyn Kiste is one of my most highly rated auto-buy authors; I've read 3 or 4 other books by her so far, and will keep grabbing every new one she writes because I've never given any of them less than 5 stars.
The Invention of Ghosts is a story about friendship and sadness; it's about not fitting in until you do, and then doing everything you can not to slip back from that safe place you've found. There are themes of healing and longing, and it's incredible that the author packs so many different things into such a short number of pages. I love stories about friendships, especially between girls, and this one was so well done - the vibes, the atmosphere, the writing, all of it beautiful. Highly recommend....more

It's so cool seeing the things that stand out to the author on each page, and seeing the way they arrange and form the words to create a cohesive whole that has its own meaning & message. I honestly can't get enough, and will be buying & reading every single collection - or book - she puts out moving forward. Don't miss this one!!...more
