ChiavaWhere Hope Begins is such a heartwarming story filled with family, prayer, some cute little guys, and lots of hope (hence the title of course). Chiavaroli brings the story of Maggie, who seems like a woman after my own heart. She loves her step-sons as if they are her own, and I could see myself acting that very same way. When one of them becomes sick with diabetes, she is like in full-on mama bear mode. Again, I could see myself doing that too. Her commitment to those boys pulled on my heartstrings more than once as I read the pages of this beautifully written story.
The thing I appreciate most in this book is the attention to detail that Chiavaroli gives to diabetes and how it can affect people, especially young people. And the fact that she chose Type 1 was great because in my opinion it is the lesser understood of the two. I love it when books can educate us!!! And then add in a married couple that isn't in trouble, so to speak, but could definitely use some help in the communication and reconnecting department. I could easily connect with that aspect of marriage!
Overall Where Hope Begins is a touching story with lots of love, emotion (have some tissues nearby), and family. And while I don't want this series to end, I cannot wait for the next installment! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When we tThis is a wonderfully written debut historical novel. Miller brings to life a little known part of WWII, at least to me - saving the horses. When we think about WWII, or any war for that matter, we mostly think about people. I appreciate that she brings this to light because it's important for us to know. Animals are important to me, and horses? Well they have always had a special place in my heart.
Aside from showing the beauty and importance of these majestic animals, Miller also brings forth brave characters. Their journey is unlike anything I've read before, and I found myself hanging onto Miller's every word. Adia and Bret were brought together in an unlikely fashion, and yet they just worked. Mix in Ewan and you have the perfect trio. Their treacherous journey, sacrifices, and entire story was just so moving. So well put together.
WWII fiction fans, horse fans, historical fiction fans, and compelling fiction fans alike will enjoy their time in Miller's novel. I cannot wait to see what comes next from her. Her writing is to simply put it - poetic.

My goodness I enjoyed this story. And right from the beginning Gabhart gets you with a proposal that literally comes out of nowhere. I mean I was laughing, but then intrigued to see where it would go. Here's where it went - a beautiful song of love, faith and family. Not your traditional family, but one that I think is even better.
Gordon, Mira, and Ada June had such a story. I loved that Gabhart included Ada June's POV because it added a layer of depth not only to her character, but to the overall story. The three POV's were woven together perfectly, and at times brought tears to my eyes. And while I loved getting to know these three characters, it was the faith lessons that Gabhart poetically wrote that really spoke to my heart. Most important - leaning on the Lord. Following Him even if it's scary, somewhere new, and comes out of the blue. I always love her faith threads, but this one - it might just be my favorite.
Readers, if you're looking for characters to love, a faith thread that will speak to your heart, and a story that just might change your life, this one is for you! AI have loved lighthouses forever, so when I found out that would be an integral part of this story, by the amazing Amanda Cox, I was hooked already. As I started reading the story, uncovering the emotion, the story, the mystery, and the emotion, I was hooked even more. Cox has a knack not just for writing stories, but for putting so much thought into each and every word. Every page serves a purpose, and you cannot help but to fall in love with her beautiful artistry.
Between the Sound and Sea is a book that will sit with me for a long time. There's a reason Amanda Coz is an auto read author for me. She always takes me on this touching journey. A journey that I never want to see come to an end. I highly recommend readers to embark on Joey's journey. I think they'll find a few treasures along the way.

Honestly - her writing just gets better and better. With an intriguing plot, loveable characters, an exquisite faith thread, and a beautiful setting, you can't go wrong with this one. Add in some mystery, action, and banter and it's even better!
Peter and Lily take readers on such a journey. One about finding out Whom we belong, Who is in control, and Who we need to look to. Though I loved everything about this story, Politano's ability to point to Jesus was simply breathtaking. No matter where you are in your walk, I think this story is for you. No matter if you think you don't like historical fiction, this story is for you.

Between You and Us is such a beautiful, emotional read. If you are looking for a fluffy romance, or a humorous read, this is not for you and that's ok. It is for readers who want depth to the story. Emotion coming off the page. Parts that will have you gasping, sighing, crying, and just so connected to Leona as a wife and a mother. Goodness it will probably give you the chills.
The way that Broekhuis brought Leona's story to life is stunning. She handles topics like fertility issues and all that involves with such poise and grace. There is anger in the characters, and understandably so - Broekhuis doesn't glorify their behavior, simply shows their humanity. There is so much more, but honestly, you're better off reading it from the book and not my opinion. Marriage, fertility, motherhood, and the ultimate decision - it's a lot and I don't recommend trying to read it in one sitting. Read it slowly. Take breaks when you need to. It'll still be there when you're ready to pick it up again!
I highly recommend this beautifully written novel to those who are ready to read about tough topics, and emotional roller coasters. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own....more

Let me start by saying this is my favorite biblical fiction novel ever. I have read a lot, from some amazingly talented authors. But there's just something about Kaufman's writing that is different. And for a debut biblical fiction author - wow. I am in awe. Her writing is beautiful, poetic, and simply breathtaking. I have never read a biblical fiction novel this fast before. I simply couldn't pull myself away.
Now, while I understand this is a work of fiction, I have to say that Kaufman's creativity to fill in the missing pieces from what we read in the bible felt so realistic and so on point. I could see Martha having these feelings, these issues, everything. And while we'll never know this side of heaven, it had me grabbing my bible and relooking at all I could read about Martha and her journey. It had me weeping when I thought about how Lazurus died, but then Jesus brought him back to life. It had me pondering what it would have been like to have Jesus in my home, having not yet decided if He was truly the Messiah or not, and witnessing things He did. How my heart would have changed, and how I would have reacted to different circumstances. Truly, this book was so thought provoking, and yet I didn't want to take the moments to think until after I had reached the end because I was totally engrossed with how Kaufman presented it.
Then there was the sweet love story between Martha and a name I'll refrain from saying so you can read it for yourself. I never really thought about that happening for Martha, but it certainly could have. And it was so well written. I have to stop there because I want you to see for yourself.
Heather Kaufman has exceeded any expectation I had of reading this novel. Far surpassed in fact. Readers of the faith will enjoy seeing Martha's story from her perspective. Historical fiction fans will enjoy it as well, as Kaufman just brings this time period to life in a way I've never seen done before. I encourage everyone to read this story. It is my #1 read for this year, and I imagine it will not lost it's spot. It touched my heart. It had me yearning for more time with Jesus. And when I got to the end, I was in tears (partly because of the faith theme and partly because it was over). Do yourself a favor and read it. Request your library to get a copy. Let your friends and family borrow it when you're done. I promise it will have a big impact.

Not just the dialogue and the writing, but the articles, the letters, the scripts, everything honestly. It was purposefully included and added to the story. Dykes writes such beautiful stories, and Born of Gilded Mountains is no different. In it we find layered characters, difficulty and how to handle it, a little mystery, friendships and so much more.
Every time I read a book by Dykes, I know to take my time and savor it. Her stories are not to be rushed, and that's ok. They deserve us to spend days on end with them. They are that good guys. Born of Gilded Mountains will move you, inspire you, and give you all the emotions. I highly recommend adding this to your reading list. Reread it even. I know I will be.

Brunsvold pens a beautiful, poignant, faith filled novel that spoke straight to my heart, and if I'm honest - to my stomach. More on that later. There are so many layers to this story, in fact it's almost like we get a few stories in one.
While Nikki's character seemed a little, shall I say, immature at the beginning of the story, I had to remind myself of her age. I would have acted similar to that if I were her age, and that's what really enhances her character arc for me. I don't want to give away too much, but not only did Brunsvold do a work on this girl, the other characters did as well as the Lord. I so enjoyed reading the recipe book right along with her, each recipe not only making me long for my kitchen, it made me long for my bible. The truths tucked in the beginning of each recipe were inspirational, encouraging, and just what I needed. I have so many flags in this book that it almost matched the number of pages! These are lessons that will stay with me for years to come, and ones I will frequently look back at.
Then there's Uncle Wes. We only get a snippet of his back story, but if you really take your time in reading the story, you see why he's hesitant to love. He's such a strong, tender, wise character. And there is one scene - oh my stars I cannot tell you about it because **spoiler** but it totally knocked my socks off. Those of you who have read the story know exactly what I am talking about. What I appreciate about Wes was his insight into everything that was going on. His gentle guidance, and his way with words. He is the epitome of what a hero should be.
But it doesn't end there. Brunsvold saved her very best character as a secondary character. Aunt Emma not only provide nuggets of wisdom, she's spunky, funny, and everything I want to be at her age. She was a delightful addition to this story. I almost wish there was more of her, but then that would take away from the rest of the story.
Not only does Brunsvold give us a beautiful story, she also gives us amazing recipes. I found myself salivating with each one, and I can say pretty confidently that I will be trying to make some of them. This was such a brilliant idea, and honestly it inspires me to make a little book of my own for my future grandchildren.

Rosey Lee pens a heartwarming novel about the importance of family, forgiveness, overcoming obstacles, death, and so much more. Ruth, Naomi, Mary and Rosey Lee pens a heartwarming novel about the importance of family, forgiveness, overcoming obstacles, death, and so much more. Ruth, Naomi, Mary and Martha have been through so much, and I really appreciate how Lee portrays their relationships. They aren't perfect, wrapped in a bow, and that Hallmarky family that you just want to punch in the face. They argue, disagree on things, speak up at times and keep quiet at times. I thought it was a real and honest way to portray this family.
I will say that at times the story was a little slow for me. I took me a few chapters to begin to feel like I was invested in the characters. And a few times throughout I felt that perhaps there could have been scenes that could have been cut, or sped up a little bit. That being said, I did enjoy the journey that these ladies went on. They had a lot to overcome and I was impressed with how Lee showed their dynamic. It was a great women's fiction read.

This book. No, this series. Patch's best work. Seriously - she had be worried, crying, heart pounding, all the emotions guys. The creativity, the descriptions, the emotions, WOW. This book (well again, series) is not for the faint of heart. But if you are a suspense junkie, and love shows like Criminal Minds, then you're in for a treat.
The POV from the victim - yeah there's a big plot twist with that one. One I was not expecting at all. Wasn't even on my radar. And the other plot twist at the end!? Oh my lanta it was good. Patch is such an amazing writer. I mean I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. If my schedule wasn't so busy, I would have read it in one sitting. I wanted to read it in one sitting - but alas I couldn't. And honestly? That was ok because I got to enjoy the story longer. It is deliciously creepy. That's an understatement, but I am not sure how else to describe it.
Also..... I have to comment on Ty's back story. It was so interesting (you'll have to read it to know what I'm talking about). I don't remember reading another book that focused on a family like his. And it was fascinating to see how she weaved it into the story. Plus, I wanted Ty to see what a true relationship with the Lord looked like. I won't say whether he does or not, because spoilers. But I will say this.....there is a very beautiful and poetic parallel of Jesus laying down His life for us that completely knocked me off my feet. Full on tears here.
But back to the storyline. Lots of twists and turns, and moments where people have to make big decisions. Patch handled them all in a realistic way, nothing was so graphic I was running away from the book (but yes there are some things that may be hard for a sensitive reader to read), and I really just had fun, albeit suspenseful nail biting fun, reading this story. Highly recommend for suspense and thriller fans - just be sure you read the whole series!

Not only do you have compassion and Elaine Stock has a way of writing like none other. Her characters move readers throughout the pages of the novel. Not only do you have compassion and empathy for them, but you have respect, admiration, and awe. Edith is no exception to the rule. She shows bravery in a new light. She shows hope that can apply to us even today. No, we do not live anywhere near the tragedy that she did in this story, yet we have difficulties in our own lives, and Edith reminds us that we can and will get through it.
We also read about Vonni, who's story is just as impactful as Edith's. I can't imagine the depth of hurt and sorrow Vonni went through in this story (I don't want to include any spoilers, so you'll have to read it for yourself). But she shows great strength and courage, reminding readers that even when things are grim, even when it seems like you are alone, the truth is that you are not alone and you can keep going.
Both of these women provide valuable lessons to the reader, but what really makes this story a hit is Stock's words. Her ability to pull you into the time period, feeling a sense of belonging as you're reading, and hitting you with every single emotion the characters feel is uncanny. I thoroughly enjoy reading her stories for this very reason. Historical fiction fans who enjoy jumping into that time machine will love reading When We Disappeared. And if you haven't started the series yet, I encourage you to read the entire series. Each and every story will be sure to touch your heart.

It was so well writteI don't even know where to start with this review. I enjoyed every single moment of this story, even the parts that made me cry! It was so well written, so well put together. My favorite from Finkbeiner by far!
Let's start with Bertha. Oh how did my tomboy heart love her character. Her and I had so many things in common, one of them being baseball of course. When I was a kid, I played little league with the boys. In fact my dream was to be the first woman on the Atlanta Braves. Of course, that dream died once I got older and was told I couldn't be on the boys team anymore because there was a female equivalent - softball. I hated softball. Those who say it is the same, let me assure you that it is most certainly not. The ball is different. The field is different. The pitch is different. Need I go on? Anyways, I understood Bertha's love for the game and some of the picking on she got from her fellow ball players. I lived it. But what makes Bertha's character even better is her tenacity and strength. When even her very best friend seemed to have deserted her, she kept going. She didn't let the circumstances surrounding her family stop her from moving forward.
Then there's Flossie. My goodness I enjoyed her character so much. Her love for stories of course is something I can easily relate to. But the teasing in school - that hit me the most probably (Yep I was picked on a lot in school). She wasn't afraid to fight back and that's what I liked about her. She made me giggle, a lot. She just had this way about her that made her special. A spark if you will. And the epilogue!!! Well I can't really say anything about it, but it was perfect for Flossie's character.
Baseball aside, this is a story about family. What does a family do when it is accused of something so horrific that the entire community essentially shuns them? Do they cower? Do they move on? Do they still show their face? Finkbeiner brings up a topic and time period that we don't see much about in fiction today, but I find myself wanting more. She showcases so many different emotions in this family, something that I could see being in many families in a similar situation. But she doesn't diminish the different opinions and feelings. No, she shows readers how to bring out the best in each and come together in a beautiful and extraordinary way.
Then, as you draw near the end and you think everything is going to be pink roses - BAM. Finkbeiner hits you with a plot twist that you just don't see coming. Your heart aches. You almost have to put the book down for a moment so that you can process what you just read. I'm getting emotional just thinking about it. But as much as it was emotional, it was something that really enhanced the story. I can't say why or how, you'll need to read. But to see this family deal with that plot twist was just, well, encouraging and beautifully written.
Now if I had one nitty gritty little detail that I would critique, I would say that I really would have loved an epilogue that talked about the entire family, not just Flossie. Only because I wanted to know how they made out. But what was written about Flossie was just perfect. I sighed as I closed the book. This baseball loving gal will be rereading this novel several times in her life, I can tell. Yes it's that good!

There are novels that will touch your heart, and then there are novels that will absolutely shatter your world. This is such a book. The Long March Home is so much more that I anticipated. It is gut wrenching in spots, tender in spots, hopeful in spots, and simply a stunning read. It took my breath away. Yes, there were difficult moments as I was reading. Honestly – it’s a war novel, I expected it. But those who have a hard time reading about violence and it’s after effects may want to take that into consideration. I would say it’s highly graphic, but I have a pretty imaginative mind so it doesn’t take much in the description area for me to be able to imagine. Anyways…. that’s just a side note.
The bottom line is that if you enjoy history, if you enjoy stories set during and in the midst of a war, then this is the book for you. It almost has a memoir feel to it, which I rather enjoyed. I also really liked the two timelines that it went back and forth on. It made it so there was something to break up the roughness of the war, plus you really learned the backstory of the characters by “living” it.
There is a lot between the pages of this book – emotions, trials, blessings, and so much more. I think it would make a fantastic read for a book club – there are so many things you can discuss while reading through, and I wish I would have thought of messaging a friend to share my thoughts as I read. I cannot say enough good things about this story. Again, it’s not for everyone, so be sure to do your homework. But if this type of book is right up your alley – well then get your copy as soon as possible, grab your tissues, and get ready for a roller coaster of emotions. It is well worth it.

Grief comes in so many different forms, and I'm so thankful that Deese took the time to share that in The Words We Lost. Yes this story is ab4.5 stars
Grief comes in so many different forms, and I'm so thankful that Deese took the time to share that in The Words We Lost. Yes this story is about romance, about friendship, even about the bookish world, but more importantly it's about loss and how you deal with that loss. From the poetic journey that Ingrid went on, to the difficult journey Wendy went on, and every where in between. Deese puts so much emotion in the pages of this book that you cannot help but be touched by every single word.
I loved, loved, loved all the tender moments between Joel and Ingrid. As much as they each had a separate journey to go on, they also had a journey to embark on together, and let me tell you - it was beautifully written. I enjoyed each text message, each meeting, basically everything about them. Joel was so patient with Ingrid. And Ingrid? Well she needed a little push now and then lol.
But as much as I enjoyed their romance thread, the true hero of the story is the way Deese provokes the thoughts of readers. The way she handles the world of grief - so tenderly, poetically, and realistically. The way she reminds readers that closure comes in many different forms, and often times it is not what we imagine it would be and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The way she shows that we have hope, even when we have suffered a great loss.
The Words We Lost is an emotional, tender, thought provoking read that will encourage and inspire readers. I highly recommend! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own....more
After the Shadows is a moving historical novel full of history, mystery, secrets, second chances, and even a plot tw4.75 Stars!!! Is that a thing? LOL
After the Shadows is a moving historical novel full of history, mystery, secrets, second chances, and even a plot twist I didn’t totally see coming (only a little!). Cabot has crafted characters that seems to be stuck in their circumstances - Emily thinking she doesn’t deserve happiness and that all marriage is like the one she endured, and Craig who is having a hard time letting go of what happened to his wife. Here’s the thing - we all go through things in life. Things we don’t want the world to know about. But if you can find that one person to confide in (like Emily and Craig), it can totally change your life.
Cabot does bring some difficult issues up during the course of this book (mostly domestic violence), yet she doesn’t go into such detail that it causes you to put the book down. You get enough to get a glimpse of what Emily went through, which enhances her storyline and enables the reader to connect with her more. I thought it was done perfectly, and really acted as a reminder to me that it has been going on for years - many more then we imagine. And yet Emily provides such hope. Though she had put up this giant wall around her heart, throughout the story you see it start to lessen. You see her start to understand that not all people are like her husband was.
I enjoyed Craig’s character as well, and the realizations that he needed to come to. I can’t really talk about it because of spoilers, but the point was that we cannot blame ourselves for things that happen when they are truly outside of our control. Nor can we put up these “safe barriers” that we think will shield others from enduring the same pain. We have to keep on living and just take it day by day.
After the Shadows is full of life lessons, emotion, a sweet slow budding romance, and so much more. Historical fans will not only enjoy the storyline, but they will appreciate all the history that Cabot has provided on the pages. I cannot wait for the next book to release so we can read Louisa’s story! Highly recommend.

Robekah Gyger has done a beautiful job writing her debut novel, and I cannot wait to see what she brings to readers in the future! Her creativity, research, and biblical knowledge shines in her debut novel. And yes, she does take liberties with things – that’s the wonderful thing about biblical fiction. It’s fiction! It’s not meant to be fact, it’s meant to imagine the rest of the story that the bible doesn’t tell us. It’s meant to have us reaching for our bibles to find out what God says about the story. And Gyger does just that.
The way Gyger tells Rahab’s story was simply fascinating. Honestly, I had never given much thought to how Rahab ended up in the position that she did, but Gyger’s take on it made sense, and was very believable. And I appreciated the look into her thoughts throughout the story. They made me stop and really think about Rahab and what couldn’t have really been the reason behind her circumstances. And I did read her story in the bible afterwards to compare. The truth is, we don’t know a lot about her – and I appreciated the way Gyger brought her to life.
I also enjoyed reading Salmon’s chapters. It provided an interesting point of view of being an Israelite back in that time. Sure, we all know the story of the Battle of Jericho, but do we ever stop and think about the individual people involved in it, and what it was like for them? I know I don’t as often as I should, and Gyger really made them come alive. I appreciated that about her writing.
Biblical fiction fans will enjoy this debut novel by Rebekah Gyger. I’m excited to see how her writing grows in the future and what stories she’ll bring us next. She is a historical fiction boss, and this is only her second book. Her plot line is intriguing and keeps you reading into the late night hours. Her characters are all over the place in a good way. Some are dangerous and keep you guessing. Some are sincere, sweet, warm and inviting. And yet others make you second guess what you think of them throughout the entire book. Caudill doesn’t stop there. She adds plot twists at the perfect spots. She has sparks of romance sprinkled throughout, again at just the right moments. And her faith thread? Oh my goodness it was good. Probably my favorite out of my recent reads. I’m telling you – Caudill can write. And while this seems like a book that might be going in fifty different directions, I promise you it isn’t. Caudill brings every single aspect together flawlessly.
Andrew is such a wonderful hero. He’s got everything you want – faith, loyalty to the right people, strength, patience, and more. There were so many times I was on the edge of my seat wondering how he would handle situations, and he handled them with such grace and ease. He sacrificed himself in order to make the world a better place. SWOON. And the way he was with Lu? Oh boy. Patience doesn’t even begin to describe it. But in true Hosea fashion, he was willing to follow the Lord’s lead. Let me tell you – that in itself makes him swoony.
And then there’s Lu. Her character surprised me so many times during this story, all in good ways. She was so much more then people gave her credit for. The things she had to deal with, I can’t even imagine it. (Also – please make sure you read the very first page before diving into this book. Caudill gives some trigger warnings for those with reading sensitivities) And Caudill never makes it “come alive” on the pages so to speak. She handles each situation poetically, and only gives enough so the reader knows what is going on.
Caudill has really outdone herself with this novel. It surpassed my expectations, and then some. Her faith thread has touched me in ways I never imagined, and Lu’s story is going to stay with me for a very long time. I highly recommend not only this novel, but Counterfeit Love as well. Carve out some reading time, because you are going to need it. And get those sticky flags ready, because you are going to note a LOT of great quotes!

Oh what a fun read! Woodhouse does such an amazing job of keeping a reader on their toes with all the pieces of the puzzle to the things happening at Oh what a fun read! Woodhouse does such an amazing job of keeping a reader on their toes with all the pieces of the puzzle to the things happening at El Tovar. Plus, she weaves such a beautiful faith thread, perhaps one of my favorites It's so seamless, timely, and simply stunning.
Let's start with the mystery. There was a character that I just could not figure out. I didn't understand why he was there, how he fit into the story, but every time he was on the scene I wanted more. Honestly it was really irritating (in a good way) that I could not figure him out. And then BAM. I did not see what Woodhouse had coming, but it was brilliant. Sorry no spoilers, but I can tell you that looking back, now I see it. So look for those clues!
Ruth and Frank's love story was a slow one, and really kudos to Frank for waiting basically forever. Here's the thing - while it probably seems unrealistic that a man would wait as long as he did, I can see why he did. Ruth needed to come to terms with what happened to her, and her worth as a child of God. Her self esteem was so low, and there were multiple times while reading that I wanted to shake her. But then I thought, well I am probably like her in different ways myself so maybe I should learn from her! Her character growth didn't happen quite as quickly as I wanted it to, but sometimes that's life.
All in all, Woodhouse weaves such a wonderful story. Historic fans will be all over this edition of the Secrets of the Canyon series. Highly recommend! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own....more
This is my favorite Kate Breslin novel ever. I literally could not put it down and read it right before Christmas. I would have read it all in one sitThis is my favorite Kate Breslin novel ever. I literally could not put it down and read it right before Christmas. I would have read it all in one sitting if not for things we already had scheduled! It was soooooo good.
Let me start by talking about Natayla. I know she's a secondary character, but she really had an impact on me. First of all, I kept going back and forth and whether she was a good guy or a bad guy. Breslin did an amazing job of sprinkling little pieces of good and bad moments with her that I was always changing my mind. And then......the twist! For obvious reasons, I'm not going to get into that, but wow. I kind of suspected it and was also complete surprised, if that makes any sense at all. But basically, I love it when there is mystery with secondary characters. Especially when trying to guess which side they are on!
Marcus and Clare had such wonderful chemistry. What I liked was how that continued even when he couldn't remember her. It was such a great example of the power of love, and two people belonging together. They had good banter, but also some really sweet and tender moments. And Clare! She was such a strong heroine, even though at times it was super painful and difficult. There was a moment or two where I just wanted to smack her for her decisions (sorry you'll have to read to understand), but she eventually came around to understanding I was right lol.
Along with the mystery and romance, Breslin does such an amazing job historically. You can tell she does tons of research to make the book authentic. The way things were done, the speech, everything. You really feel as if you've jumped in 1918, into the hospital and the grand house that Marcus' family lives in. Honestly, I didn't want to leave.
And as a bonus, we get a little side romance for Marcus's sister Fanny. She is such a sweetheart, and I really enjoyed having those little moments in the last half of the book. It just made such a more complete story for lack of better words. Sigh. I am still thinking about these characters and I finished over a week ago!
I highly recommend putting this beautifully written historical fiction novel on your want list. It is one of my favorite reads of 2022! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own....more
