This book is beautifully tragic witThis book had all feels and it was beautiful, starting from the cover, to the story and especially the characters. This book is beautifully tragic with high angst levels and yet so hopeful, delivering a sweet message. This story starts with Gaze and Pixie as kids in adjacent apartments talking to one another from their windows. This defines their fairytale friendship/love and paves way to a story that transcends years. These two define true friendship, loyalty and through their actions, heroics and sacrifices explain what it means to truly stand by and always be there for the other. The story evolves like a movie, detailing their innocent friendship in the hot summer days and how their despite their hardships these two find true solace and comfort in each other. It was written in a such a easy and descriptive way that I could picture everything, making it all the more relatable. As the story progresses, it takes a dark turn and many things are implied rather than shown which works for the benifit of the story. I wouldn't say it was glosses over but the way one chapter ends opens up horrific situations in our imagination, which causes even more of an impact. The best part of this book was hands down and undoubtedly Pixie. She is so awesome on all grounds, so brave, strong, bold, loyal, smart, understanding, practical and so very thoughtful. She is very different from other heroines I have read about and this strength of hers is what truly makes this story shine. I salute her and wish everyone learns from her. My only small complain with this book is that it seems very smooth and convenient in the latter half. Their happiness is well deserving but more struggle and fights would have created more spark, but nevertheless it made a very and enjoyable read. Special mention for Austin for being such a supportive characters and such an Irresistible swag. Overall 5 stars!!...more

Contrary to what I had expected from the title and the blurb, there was nothing 'taboo' and controversial about this book and that kind of worked for this book and to an extent it didn't. I wouldn't call the title completely deceitful or misleading but it's not what one would expect from a book titled 'The Affair'. It does have some elements of an affair but it's more like in the past (Elle's grandmother's story) and the way it influences Elle's life and her decisions in the present is what forms the crux of the story. There are loads of parallels between Elle's grandmother's story that she finds in her journal to her own life post the divorce be with her husband and her closeness with her husband's brother - Sawyer. As a reader, here Is where I wish the story had taken a more forbidden route by showing the affair even in the present. That would have made it all the more exciting to read. Coming to how the actual story plays out - it's more like a second chance romance - trusting people, letting them in and most importantly - learning to change and adapt. Despite being a simple second change love story drawing inspirations from the past, what works best for the story is the way the aforementioned elements are brought out in the story in a very natural way. 'Change' especially has been highlighted in so many ways - her antique store and what she sell there, all the way to how she sees and treats her family (mother and brother in particular). To add on, the author has also added lot of family ties, problems and some surprising elements towards the end. For the most part, they work and contributes for a very meaningful and 'complete' family and is not even boring for the most part. But what it lacks is the tension and love between Elle and Sawyer. There is love sans the associated tension, struggle, anticipation and pain of seperation, it feels lacking overall. And I also I didn't like how Elle took some decisions that left Sawyer hanging for the most and that too for no fault of his. But overall it was read that I enjoyed and left a smile on my face. I would go with 4 stars....more
Woooooow. Lily White did it again! She is one of those are authors who outshines herself with every new book she releases, taking the bar even higher Woooooow. Lily White did it again! She is one of those are authors who outshines herself with every new book she releases, taking the bar even higher and continuing to deliver with same quality. This book is no exception. What a crazy ride from start to finish. The terms- crazy, deal and phrase - expect the unex suits her books the best! When I reach a stage where I believed things can't gets worse for our protagonists, she adds a scene that takes the darkness factor a notch higher and there is no coming down from it. This story is of Noah and Ensley and it's not just story - it's their live's tragedy from which they manged to grow beautiful garden - The garden of discontent that grew from the ground where all their dark, torturous secrets lay buried. It's a befitting tittle for a beautiful yet tragic love story. I won't go into the details of the story, but I did see a lot of parallels between this story and 'Five'. Of course the way the love story developed and the circumstances surround Ensley were different from that of Five but in a twisted way it lead to similar tragedies and both the female leads went down the same path. Though overall I liked Five better than this, it doesn't mean it lacked the charm or darkness or even novelty for that matter. It has tons of that and even more... The story switches between present and past and though earlier I was more curious about things would unfold in the present, my attention shifted more towards the tragic yet unexpected twists in the past. The present comparitivley didn't have as many surprise elements as that of the past and all the meetings in the present seemed inconsequential without adding anything new into the mix. But they did lend a hand in getting Noah and Ensley close again in the present. Their chemistry is explosive and painful to say the very least and yet there got together so perfectly. The sheer love and dedication these two had for one another brought tears to my eyes. Coming to the past, it was so tragic and dark that it was almost scary. Tammy - Ensley's mom putting her through so much torment is unbearable. It's so ugly yet it's this realistic and unfiltered take on things that makes this book standout from the rest and shine. As much as I empathized with Ensley, it was Noah that won my heart right from the start and held on to it till the very end. I loved them as a couple. No doubt about it. This story though tries to play with the whole whodidit trope, I think it can be enjoyed more just as Ensley-Noah love story. Though the mystery element did make it all the more fun, it resolved a little too easily towards the end for my liking. Again, there were quite a few contrivances to ensure the story ended on the note it did. It was far more convincing in five than in this book, but overall it doesn't take away the interest or fun from the story. The last part could have been better but the epilogue and the way it was written made up for it. I would go with 5 stars for this spine chilling read....more

It was very emotional and filled with angst, that quite literally made me cry for the characters. The story as presented in the blurb pretty much sums up with it is about but there is so much more to it that can be experienced only by diving into the story. Despite knowing what is bound to happen, the story never meanders and neither does it lose its pace. It is filled with surprise, twists, a little humor and sass and so much pain but overall makes for a beautiful, tragic and hopeful read. The book's biggest strength comes from it's characters and the way it's been written. The writing style and the tone matches perfectly with the story. I especially loved the transition between present and the past. It happens in two places and it's been done so beautifully almost like I am watching a motion picture. The 'past' chapters are very apt and effective, showing how their love blossomed and how one night ruined everything. I especially loved all the 'time' references made my Thea. They resonates beautifully with the story and became unique to her character and love for Ramsay. All the characters are spot on, unique with a lot of depth to them. I couldn't dislike a single one of them. My favourite was Thea. I really admires her patience and loyalty towards Ramsay and her will to wait for him despite him asking her not to. It's not easy and it's not something anyone else in her place would have done! And yet she held onto to that love and promise they had made as kids without any doubts or second thoughts. I also loved how mature and sacrifical Ramsey was. What he did hurt and broke Thea but I understood his reasons for the same and I salute him for that. These two were perfect for each other and they were one of those 'meant to be together' couple. I loved them both! And yet another interesting character we have is - Nora (Ramsay's sister). She is also amazing and so very relevant to the plot. They all come together to make a tight-knit family that has to stay together no matter what. Overall I absolutely loved this story and would recommend it to all those who love angst filled, true love stories!! One of the best reads of the year for me....more

This book was my first read from the author and I was new to the series, I didn't know what to expect, so I went in blind (though I was really enticed by the blurb) and what a surprise this book turned out to be. It blew my mind and the entire ride was so joyful and craazzzy (in a funny and oh my god, that's so hot). The story stars right of the bat in the very first chapter and the same pace is maintained throughout. It was a quick and sassy read with loads of LOL and sarcasm moments that suited perfectly fine with both the male leads. The story follows along the same lines as the blurb, but the way it unfolds is super hot. Though we know what's bound to happen, the dialog exchange between Leo and Kora melts both heart and panties. It's witty, playful and sexy at the same time, just like the star of this book - Leo. What a guy he is - All man who plays and talks dirty but is a true gentleman who respects and stands for his woman when she needs it. A perfect combination of Alpha and guy next door. As most parts of the book were told from his POV, I got a very insight of his internal musings and I was completely blown over by his antics and charm. I also liked how beautifully Kora (always Mrs Robbinson for him) complimented him. She was his opposite and yet when together, their chemistry sparked firecrackers. And I also liked how it was not just about lust and sexual chemistry. Their love, despite being taboo was true, palpable and something that I could easily connect with. I root for them right from the start. Also, I must add that I loved Finn and Slater. The trio stole my heart and I can't wait to read more about Finn and Slater. It'll be next to impossible to choose one amongst the three. Overall 4.5 taboo stars . ...more
This was an enjoyable read and I especially loved Violet's character, and the whole 'love arc' between her and Graham - the way their love story startThis was an enjoyable read and I especially loved Violet's character, and the whole 'love arc' between her and Graham - the way their love story started when she was merely sixteen, how obsessed she was with him and how an innocent kiss ruined everything for them. The story started out unique and the mess the characters got into - especially considering that Brian (Graham's son) was also in lover with her, that she wasn't even aware of, add nice and enjoyable complications to the already sticky situation, which clearly worked for the story. And also the sex scenes were extremely hot and unqiue and took their chemistry to an all never level, which was again thoroughly enjoyable. But is this the best book I have read by the author? Not actually. Not because this book is lacking but it is almost very similar to medicine man, Bad boy blues and even Unrequited love to an extent. They all follow the same pattern and considering I read Unrequited Love first, it's the one I loved the most and the other books that followed (with exception of God's and monsters) felt like different versions of the same story. They are all really romantic and super hot love stories but they all follow the same pattern - especially medicine man, bad boy blues and now dreams of eighteen where their is taboo elements of sorts, and either of two protagonists have some issues (rooting from their past) and the climax of all of the stores are very similar and it's on very predictable lines. Also to add on, even the 'voice' and 'tone' of the female protagonists are very similar (especially Willow and Violet). And again, this doesn't mean, it's not good but just that I want to read something a little different and more 'complex' perhaps with a totally unique storyline( something like God's and Mosnters - it was totally out of the box and that's what made is some awesome ). Saffron is a gifted author and I love her seamless and smooth writing. It's one of my favorites and though versatility is not a must for a writer, I do wish she gives us something unique next time. Keeping my fingers crossed and looking forward to her next books! More on this book - Graham was character I could relate to towards the end and though I do understand his hesitancy and reservations, I am so glad that he was there for her in every way she required and he was so damn HOT and adorable at the same time. I also loved Brian's character and wish to see more of him in another book - hopeful with him as the protagonist?! I also loved the whole lollipop and Rose garden references. It gelled with with the story. And as a couple Mr. Edwards and Violet were awesome and just perfect for one another....more

She had done a phenomenal job with this book and I am so glad that the Carnage author is finally back with a blast writing for the genre that I personally feel suits her the most - rockstar romance. Carnage was the book that introduced me to the lives of the Rockstars and what a book that was! Guess it has been 4+ years since I last read it and it still sits as the one of my fav angst book ever!!! Though I don't want to compare this book to that, there are quite a lot of commonalities and Carnage characters are referenced every now and then. The deep dive it takes into lives of Rockstars is the best part of this book. It shows all the Rockstars - Max (in this case) in a different light altogether and downside to fame and money, highlighting on the kind of life they live, the image they are obliged to maintain in public and how the 'Paps' ruin their lives. Though I have read a lot of books about Rockstars, at least in the recent past, no book comes close to depicting their lives to such perfection as this one does. So definitely full points for that. Coming to the actual story. This is a taboo romance but not THAT taboo (the kind I am used to reading) but more like forbidden in the eyes of the media and it works for the settings and storyline chosen. But then again there is a lot of buildup and it takes a lot of time for the actual love story to start. I suppose till 25-30% Billie (the female protagonist) is not even introduced. The first few chapters are nice in setting up Max's storyline and introducing his character but then again was it absolute essential? I don't think so. If the same story were to be recapped as a part of a conversation, I would still empathize with Max and Love him. I felt more like this was Max's story rather than being Max and Billie's love story. Billie was more like an important character in Max's life whom he happened to fall in love with rather than the actual female lead with her own character arc. I did like Billie and I get why Max loved and her and they even made for a good couple but their love was more like the insta love and Attraction (when they first meet after many years during which she has actually grown up) and though it kind of worked for this book given the past that they have shared, if done a little differently and actually giving more time and scenes for their love to evolve could have made it even better. The pace was a little slow but after Billie showed up it quickened a little and after Whiteney's re-entry the shit hits the fan and everything becomes interesting. I hated Whiteney's character but it was her presence that brought about some well needed drama and tense moments in the book. In typical Lesley's style, there were quite a bit of WTF moments and twists the ends that kept me hooked to the book. I loved the whole bond between Max and Layla and also Layla and Billie. They made a cute and sweet family and Max was an adorable dad to Layla. I also loved the whole extended family and friends (band) and the interaction between all the characters is awesome and super fun to read !! I also love how they are always stand by each other and like a true family help each other out in every sticky situation. Those moments really stand out in this book and there are plenty. Overall I would go with 4.5 stars and can't want to the read the next book that the author has teased us about in the epilogue:)...more
This was a good conclusion to the father-son duet and I am really impressed with the author, especially on how she chose to tackle such a taboo story This was a good conclusion to the father-son duet and I am really impressed with the author, especially on how she chose to tackle such a taboo story in a very realistic manner. I had my complaints with the first book - with regards to the pacing but this book improvised in the pacing but where earlier I had liked all characters, Holland got on my nerves on quite a few occasions. I loved Maguire even more in this book. I loved everything about him - about how patient, understanding, sweet and stubborn he was. His character growth this book was phenomenal and I was crushing hard on him the entire time and that's precisely why I was so miffed with Holland for the most part. I get her heistancy and fear, I really do BUT she kept giving mixed signals to this MAN who who was ready to move the sky and Earth for her and Evey time she made some progress and took few steps forward, she would walk a mile backward, believing that the universe was conspiring against her. For the taboo love SHE was giving into, she can't really blame the universe and make it a reason to keep him at bay. I really believed Maguire deserved someone better. Holland was just too confusing, irritating and snarky for me to like in this book. The story was also entertaining. Though I had a string hunch on how it would end I was really curious to see how and when it would lead to that point and I wasn't left disappointed on those grounds. A lot happens over the span of this book with new characters with quite a lot of potential being introduced and there is also the constant push and pull (mainly from Holland) between the two that though a little repetitive at parts, doesn't get tiring as ever scene between the two has something new to offer - be it then falling more in love or giving to their sexual desires or Holland lashing out at him or just breaking apart. I also loved the whole family-friends Dynamics with Elsie, Ned, Teagan, Jase and even Christine brings some new surprises with her. And the climax worked for this book despite being a little too convenient and contrived. But then again, they do say that when it comes to true love, universe does pull some strings afterall and this was the best example for the same. Overall, I would go with 4 stars....more

It was a crazy read from start to finish with mThis was a superb read and it delivered everything I sought and expected when I started with the book. It was a crazy read from start to finish with many twists and turns that had my head spinning, making it one of the most sinfully delicious book of the year. There is a lot I wish to say but considering I have to keep this review spoiler free, I'll keep it short and won't address the protagonists with their names directly. Set in DC, against a political background, this book offers a very good insight into life of politicians and what goes on behind the closed doors. Such a setting actually serves the plot and gives one of the protagonists (Let's call her A for now) reasons for her to go down 'THAT' dark and sinister route. On the other hand we have our other protagonist (Let's call her B) who is of high morals and principles, hard working but in desperate need of money owing to her tuition fee and her family situation. So when A seeks help of B to do her deed in return of money, the actual game begins. I will admit that I saw the major twist coming but if definitely didn't take the fun of reading it. Initially I thought that it would either of the two routes, and though it did take one of them, I was surprise rather shocked with few of the events that transpired towards the end. And the beauty of this book doesn't vest only upon the story or the shocking twists but with the characters and their motivations. A and B totally steal the show, and it's rewarding to read chapters from their alternate POVs and actually look in their minds. We can actually see their downward spiral and what pushes them to go to such extremes. Both of the characters start off as being gentle, nice and strong but victims of circumstances beyond their control. Then as the story progresses, we see a huge SHIFT as both the characters slip into the dark confines of their own minds and do stuff there is no turn away from. This book doesn't bother with establishing a good and bad character, and that's where it strikes gold. It shows both the characters as flawed, yet strong and bold, the one who wouldn't hesitate to strike back when they are threatened. I didn't love either of them, neither could I hate either of them especially after THAT ending. My only problem that stopped me from giving me 5 stars is the ending. I don't have issues with WHAT happened but more on what followed after that. All the loop holes were tied together but then what? I'm not sure if it's purposefully left open as there is definitely more story to tell, maybe there is a sequel in plans? If there is, then this undoubtedly deserves 5 stars, if not, I would prefer a much cleaner ending. Going with 4.5 stars. ...more

This was certainly not a bad book but there no 'novelty' factor to it and it was straightforward and smooth? It was too predictable that took away bits of the reading fun and there was lack of some serious drama. The content and the story had a lot of potential and if the author had wished she could definitely have pressed more buttons and crossed the limits more maybe and upped the stakes? But the lack of that somehow made the book fall flat.
I get that this book is solely focused on Gabby and how she gets out of the abusive relationship with her husband and fights for herself, but it lacked depth and tense moments. It was a book dedicated solely to her growth as a character and her freedom towards independence.Marcel just helped her through it and very conveniently became her love interest and with him by her side to always protect her, everything fell into place a little too smooth for my liking. Somehow I felt that there was a lack of romance too. There were plenty of well written sex scenes between the two but did it really contribute towards their love story and romance? No..it seems forced, like they were added just to make it feel like a love story. And I had a very big problem with Kyle's character. I mean, he was given a back story so he wasn't completely one dimensional but it was just left hanging and also felt forced to the plot. Kyle barely posed a threat and was reduced to being an 'asshole' who keeps throwing idle threats without ever backing his own words. I still don't understand if he ever loved Gabby in his own obsessive psychotic way or he was just being an abusive husband. His character was least explored and disposed off rather easily. Rest of the story...just happens. Slow and steady as she picks up her life again. There were some moments that are nice but nothing particularly stands out. And the whole Marcel's 'secret' was also unnecessary as it didn't contribute whatsoever to the story and so is Lucy's character. I can see growth in Gabby but what about Marcel? He might have not needed character growth but some form of change would have been nice to witness but that was also absent. Over all it was a nice closure to their story but having had high expectations I really felt let down with this sequel....more

It's just..... mind-blowing, chilling and extremely Dark thriller! Lily White strikes again and that too HOW?!!!! It's been a day since I read the book and I was hoping that a day Gap would be enough for me to calm down enough to write a sensible review without getting too excited and hyper...But was I wrong?! This book took me on such a crazy ride that my mind is still reeling over it and I can't get it out of my head no matter how hard I try. It's that crazily ADDICTIVE.
Coming to the actual review - This book is yet another perfect example for the genre - Romantic Suspense. It's a thriller rooted in love and a perfect retreat for readers seeking a suspenseful story interlaced with romance. At the Crux of it, it's a love story but in a totally fucked up and extremely dark settings. And as a cherry at the top - It's so fucked up that, it can easily fit into the psychological thriller genre as well. This book has everything a reader can desire - unique, unexplored storyline, mystery (finding the murderer), loads of super DARK elements, totally fucked up yet enticing characters (Especially Rainey), super Hot Sex, a sweet yet crazy love story and not to forget the numerous twists and turns that keeps one at the edge of the seat unable to keep their kindle down to even take a small pee break?! I don't usually binge read books, preferring to take my own sweet time for it soak in and living it for at least 3-4 days. BUt this book was an exception. It was so gripping that I couldn't stop flipping pages and time just flew and I realized that I had finished it in mere two sittings. This story is a interview of sorts (here it's between a psychologist- Justin and a victim who miraculously survived the homicide- Rainey) where in Rainey recollects her past leading up to the homicide and Justin studies the case to give his report on whether Rainey is a possible suspect. The tone and style is very similar to her previous book - The Wishing Well (In that it was Vincent being interviewing and he was one of my most fav character and that book was my most fav read of 2018). Here the prime focus is mainly on Rainey and the entire story revolves around her. She is a very compelling and convoluted character. Very hard to like (I literally wanted to slam some sense into her) but a very interesting and mesmerizing character to read about. She is something else all together. There is no other way to describe her and Lily White has done an excellent job in bringing her to life. There are plenty of other characters like the Connor brothers who can generalized as bad (it's calling it lightly - they are sexual beasts with no moral sense whatsoever and also rapists and drug dealers) except for Rowan. He is the youngest of the Connor brothers who falls truly in love with Rainey. He was obviously my fav character and my heart broke for him. I won't go deeper into the story but all I can say is it takes the Dark to a totally new level. Though there was nothing too gory and non-consensual per say, some of the scenes were just so fucked up. I have read tons of dark books but none of them comes close to the some scenes depicted here and how easily, readily and nonchalantly Rainey takes part in the. Ahhh...it was frustratingly enjoyable? (if that even makes sense). The writing too was incredible!!! Suspense filled and yet so deep, beautiful and meaningful! Kudos to her writing. It was exemplary. It was very hard to figure out how the story would end and there were quite a few red herrings as well but I can proudly say that I had a strong hunch about what was happening and I was right for the most part. But the ending still took me by complete shock and my heart cried! It was agonizingly appropriate for this story. But then again, though all the pieces fell together towards the end, it wasn't seamless as I hopes for it to be. Similar to how Wishing Well ended, even this story did have a few loose threads and more clarity could have made it better. Its not to say it wasn't good or unrealistic. It was set up such that narrative would make sense and though it played out beautifully, I still felt some pieces needed a better closure and even timings towards the end was a little confusing. But it doesn't take away the fun from the story at all...just small things that can be overseen considering how the exceptionally good the story and overall book is. I would go with 4.85 explosive dynamite stars for this....more
This was my first sci-fi and very a good one too. I usually stick to adult contemporary/New adult romance and don't prefer venturing into Sci-fi/superThis was my first sci-fi and very a good one too. I usually stick to adult contemporary/New adult romance and don't prefer venturing into Sci-fi/supernatural stories, but this was an exception and that's all thanks to K Webster. I'm a huge fan of the author and can read anything she writes and me reading this book is the prime example of that. And it doesn't disappoint. I dived into it with an open mind and loved every moment of this unusual, well-planned and thoroughly executed take of two lovers of different species. The elements of love, loyalty, freedom and companionship are explored beautifully in this tale and adds new depth and layers to this taboo romance. As this is my first book in the genre, I didn't have any other book to compare it against but that's not to say it was not good! Like any other book of the authors that I have read, it felt complete and 'real' without too much of drama. Breccan is the commander of the troop and the main protagonist in this book. Aria is the human female who is 'found' by the mortals and taken to their planet. This is their 'story' and the ending gives a good closure to them. Coming to the positives: 1) I loved the depth and backstory given to each of the 10 'aliens'. Though Breccan is the main lead, even his other comrades roles are explored and each of them are given a unique trait that sets them apart from the rest. We are teased about them enough to make us curious and also excited to read the other book in the series that deals with them as protagonists. 2) Despite being a taboo sci-fi sort of read, this book is grounded in earthly emotions and values that readers can connect with and it is this sense of love and freedom that ultimately triumphs. 3) The love that blossoms between Aria and Breccan is shown very tenderly and in a romantic yet belkevan settings. They were so different from one another and yet their 'love, hope and trust' spoke for them. The way they communicate and make each other understand their needs is truly a delight to read. I especially loved Breccan and his earnest love for Aria and it even leads to some light humerous moments that adds a new, rich flavor to the book. 4) I also loved the amount of detail given to the alien race, their planet and their history! It's complex alright but nothing that goes above our heads. They have come up with a very intriguing tale. The settings of the new planet, their evolved technologies, languages and even their body descriptions are top notch and paints a vivid yet detailed picture. This is a must for sci-fi/supernatural books and the authors have really outdone themselves in this area. Not to be nitpicky, but I did find two areas that could have been better? 1) Their was an estranged race and the verge of extinction - hence their need story reproduce. The build-up for this was good but somewhere amidst the budding love story, the gravity of their situation felt a little lost rather ignored maybe? Though it was told that they had lost all hope, I never felt that urgency and tension in the air. Especially towards the end, it was a very smooth sailing. I was not a big fan of Aria either. On many occasions she compared her condition back home (lack of freedom and hope) to the kind of life these aliens were living and somehow it didn't leave a good taste in my mouth. I mean, I get she has seen bad times but that can't be compared to a whole race getting extinct.and even towards the end, she throws a big tantrum and make a big issue of something that could have been handled differently and more maturely. Somehow trying to show Aria being a leader and seeking freedom of her people undermined the bigger problem at hand. I don't condemn her for action but that tantrum was uncalled for. I really appreciate Breccan's patience for dealing with her. 2) Secondly, I felt the bigger picture of lacking - the whole fight for survival and the consequences of their actions and what awaits them in the future - future of the whole planet and what lies outside ..were missing? There weren't any dots connecting any of them and no clues left for readers to figure out what had happened ( how did Aria even end up in a shuttle from space?.is she on Earth? How far are the two plants? Will anyone find her? Or somehow earthlings responsible for the destruction of the other planet?) or what can happen in the future? Rather than focusing solely on the love story, if the authors had equally focus on expanding their world and providing answers for these pressing questions, it would have been better and BIGGER! That would have truly kept me at the edge of my seats. I can just hope that next books can give readers more clarity and convincing answers. Overall, I enjoyed reading it and would definitely read other installments in this series. I would consider this as a good start for this genre!! 4-4.5 stars....more
This was a mixed bag for me. So far I have loved every one of Shanora Williams book and I especially love the way she liked taboo romance with lot of This was a mixed bag for me. So far I have loved every one of Shanora Williams book and I especially love the way she liked taboo romance with lot of feels and angst but she this time around I wasn't all that happy and satisfied by the book. This by no means is a bad book but it didn't live up to my expectations and it's courtesy of the ending rather the cliffhanger. Up until that point it was really good though it has it's minor flaws with the pacing but the ending really just put me off and left me disappointed. It's hard for me to do this review without giving away spoilers, but I will try. The overall plot is interesting and is a spin on the taboo/cheating romance and that works. Gabby is a likeable character who is clearly not happy in her marriage and is trying her hardest to shrug it off as nothing and it's just the move to a new city and house. And also that her husband is always on business trips and is hardly home for a stretch. Fair enough reasons - bottom line she is not happy, feels she married too soon to a guy elder to her and her life not how she expected it to be. This is completely fine. People falling out of love and seeking something for themselves. Though not right by a moral standard (depending on how you seek a distraction and the approach you take), it's still acceptable and also understandable. We have Marcel on the other hand, with a tragic past, too scared to love anyone cause of the fear that he will end up losing them but also someone who is graviated towards someone he can't have - in this instance - a young, clearly unhappy, attractive married woman. He is the landscape architect she hires to work on her backyard and that's how they meet. Interesting setting, banters with and simmering attraction. For majority of the book, it's a slow burn romance with palpable sexual interest and underlining romance from both of them. We also have Kyle - Gabby's husband who by no means is a good husband. Someone who doesn't see his wife as his equal and treats her more like his property but for the most part doesn't come off as an asshole or a bad person. And there are certain instances that suggests he is actually trying to hard to appease has wife though he is clearly not the one she wants anyone. I found it a little jarring that her family and friend also didn't seem to have a good opinion about him thought no such extreme behavior was shown for me to have a similar opinion on him and Gabby herself kept saying that she loves him and that's also why she married him without any second thoughts. But still I don't despise her for getting attracted to another man and cheating on Kyle as she slowly but surely started to fall for Marcel. Marcel also seemed to genuinely like Gabby and had reson (based on see interaction with Kyle and more of a genetic opinion of such people) to believe that he is not right for her and she shouldn't be with him. Not clear black and white case and even with every chracacter showing shades of grey, I still liked it. In fact, such flawed nature of the characters together with the taboo story is precisely was what I loved about it. Affair is wrong, and can't be justified and yet shows it shows flawed human nature and also gives readers tase of forbidden love and I really enjoyed it. I believed Marcel was good with Gabby and they made a nice pair. Even the writing was very smooth and there were a lot of smoky hot sex scenes that worked perfectly for these two. But the ending (though not that surprising, but I kept hoping it wouldn't take this route) left a really bad taste in my mouth. It felt like the author was trying to justify bye actions of her own characters (maybe with a fear that readers will dislike them others) and tried to pain everything in true black and white colours, clearly painting one as an antagonist. That changes EVERYTHING and makes me question Gabby's every decision and slap some sense into her?! This was so not necessary and without this element, the story would remain one of my favorites! I mean even her brother's and her dad's story which were talked about and also had cheating instances seemed much more interesting and realistic to me. But this ending let me down in Soo many ways!! I would still read the second book for Marcel's sake...but this could have been so much better. 3.5 stars....more

The best way to describe it would be - A slow burn romance mixed with a dosage of craziness and certain taboo elements. Before I get to the actual review- I have to say this: This book made feel a lot of 'de javu moments". There was this uncanny resemblance to Thomas and Layla (from unrequited- one of my all time fav books) in terms of overall gist of the story, taboo nature, the main protagonists, their relation dynamics, the story pacing and even certain scenes!! In so many ways it felt like a rehash of unrequited with different characters and in a different setting. THAT will be always be my top fav by the author but this was no less!! It was agonizingly beautiful in everything - the story, writing as well as the characters. Okay so coming to the actual review : This book has a very strong, complex and heavy storyline dealing with mental illness - suicide. Despite that it never took a dark tone and though it conveyed a lot about the illness, its nature and the treatment (if any), it never felt too gritty and painful to read. There was a nice hopeful and romantic feel to it but again nothing was sugar coated but was handled with finesse and balance with right proportions of angst, love and sex. The tone and pacing were top notch. Absolutely no complaints there. The story by itself offered quite a few taboo elements and that's what made it all the more enticing. The taboo love affair between a psychiatrist and his depressed patient. I think the author has a penchant for writing taboo stories - In case of Unrequited it was a student and a teacher ;) anyway, moving on, the settings of a psychiatric facility was also very intriguing. I haven't read other books that went into so much details about how actually they function and the daily routines of all the patients admitted there. It was very realistic, and created a very good understanding of the overall functioning and even the treatments offered. I loved the whole dynamics between Simmon and Willow. They form an amazing super hot and perfect couple. They both have their own set of flaws but complete each other so flawlessly!! More than liking them individually, I loved them together as a couple. They just clicked. Most of the chapters are from willow, so I could totally get her perspective on everything. Initially I has a problem with truly empathizing and liking her character. She used to lie and it seemed like she was in denial about he down illness but that haze was cleared when Simon walked into her life and she finally opened up to him about everything. Simon actually gave me a different lens to view her in and then I started to really admire and like her. By the end of the book she had completely grown on me Simon is perfect match for Willow but as a protagonist, I had several issues with him. That might be because I got very less chapters from his POV and most of his secrets are not revealed up until the end. There was a mystery, aura and also cockiness surrounding him, but I never got to actually look into the depths of his character. Sometimes he got on my nerves and at times I expected him to do more, react, respond, admit his feelings but he took his own sweet time and though I don't blame him per se, I wish he were more stronger and open (like he expected of his patients) The sex scenes were scorching hot and I had a really fun time imagining it in my head!! In this aspect, Saffron never disappoints. She always nails the sex scenes, adding her own creative touch to each and evey one of them . The drama quotient was kind of low and towards the end, the story became a lot predictable (maybe that's why I deducted one star?)but it didn't steal the joy while reading. I loved every single page and chapter and read it with same interest and enthusiasm. Last but not the least -This book had some amazing dialogues that were really very inspiring and motivating!! I have soooo many highlights of such lines. This book is not just romance, I felt it more like a life lesson. It teaches us to always fight against all odds, not for anyone or anything but for ourselves. A sweet love story with a powerful moral lesson - Four magically healing stars!!!!

I will write this book review in a slightly unqiue fashion by dividing into categories: 1) My initial reaction as I finished it- I was happy. There was a wide smile on my face and I started envisioning how my own future down the lane would be. It left me with pleasant feelings and also 'hope' to grab a guy like Sam :p He definitely comes in the list of top Book boyfriends but more on that later ;) 2) The second book as compared to the first - If I had to compare the two, then this definitely bags the award. Not that the first book was bad but this was definitely much clear and neat with a proper storyline and good pacing. The first was pretty messy with me having a hard time figuring out who the nice guy is and where the story was headed. This had good, solid storyline and the execution was also flawless for the most part and very satisfactory. I didn't have any complaints as such and it melted my heart at certain places 3) Writing - Beautiful. It flowed so elegantly without being too flowery or sophisticated. it had the right amounts of action, monologue and descriptions. I particularly loved Sam's POV. It was heart-warming and funny at the same. I loved reading this book and the writing/tone was just perfect without being over-the-top. Faith Andrews retains her spot as of my favourite 'writers' 4) Plotline/story- It was solid with a clear start, middle and end. It's not necessary for every book to follow such a framework but it worked perfectly for this book. The pacing was also good with right amount of romance, action and drama. It had bits or everything. The best part was- It was kept very realistic. The author has chances to make it action packed and more thrilling but that would take away the realistic nature in which everything unfolded. So yeah for me, this worked fine. And there is uniqueness and emotional appeal to simplicity as well and this book had that!! I could connect with everyone without them having to do something extreme to gain my hatred or love. And yet it proved to be a very cute and heart touching love story. 5) Characters- I Looovvvvveeeeedddd Sam. I stared to like him in the last book especially when I could read his POV but he just blew me over with the book. He is a perfect friend/lover/son/ everything!! I really wish to have someone like Sam in my life, at least like a friend. He is such a sweetheart and whatever he does for London is so selfless?!! In love with this guy!! London was level-headed and smart in this book. I didn't like her too much in the first book, but this book she did manage to win over me. I could understand her actions and her fears but she never acted hastily. She keeps her emotions in check without giving into her extreme emotions. For that alone I think she deserves Sam Henry was in the real sense a limelight hacker. He stole the show for sure and gave a pretty good completion to Sam in everything he said and did:p Ella's pretty lucky to have found him!! I really think the author used his character to strengthen the story very well. He wasn't wasted and ended up being a reader's fab character Hunter gets to play an important role but I don't want to give too much away about his character. He had his reasons for leaving London but overall it doesn't make that much of a sense. He could have chosen a different path and acted more wisely. His return brings a lot of drama that was essential for this book to progress so in that sense his actions are understandable but still his character didn't gel that well with me. Same holds true for Memphis. he was a lost cause for most part of the book. Allie was a nice addition and I am glad that as London's friend she got a good role to play. Verdict: As sweet and cute this book was, I still felt something was missing--some more fun or decisive? Sam always chose London but I wanted London to do something and choose SAM over something or anyone else. That would prove her love for him. For this book I will go with 4.5 stars and for series as a whole - 4 stars.( I still don't get the whole deal with Bryce. I think he had the potential to be an ace player but was wasted)...more

I know that this review should primarily be focusing on the story and the characters but I had to talk about her writing skills. A big shout-out to her for writing so smoothly and flawlessly!! There are a lot of authors I love and adore, every one of them specializing in one thing or the other and when it comes to pure writing - it has to be Pam Godwin. Her writing flows so smoothly- top notch descriptions packing with vivid vocabulary evoking multitude of emotions. I really salute her rich writing. It's something that will always continue to impress and also inspire me!! Her writing not just tells the story but lets us to actually 'feel' and 'live' the story. I will never get tired of reading and re-reading her books -this one being no exception. So yeah from a writing perspective - 100 stars for this book!!! Coming now to the actual review - This story is a typical love triangle and hence without a doubt something I truly loved and enjoyed reading. Cole is back and lot of secrets are revealed (majority of them are still kept in dark-opening another bag of unanswered questions) and there is a huge showdown between the three characters right in the beginning of the book - leading to some very nice dialogues, actions and emotional turmoil. A classic showdown with just the right amount of drama and angst setting the pace and tone for the rest of the book. I loved how different Cole and Trace were in their attitudes, behavior and how they carried out a conversation, and yet how similar they were in how passionately and deeply they loved Danni. It was pure joy to read these three characters interacting with each other and coming to terms with the situation/reality they are stuck in. It was also entertaining and though it's a very emotional read there were few moments that genuinely cracked me up. Writing a believable and relatable love triangle without making the readers dislike at least one of the characters (without outright cheating) is very difficult but Pam Godwin successfully managed to pull it off with ease with her writing style as as well as the plot-line without leading to any barring holes in the plot. Danni loves them both- There is no doubt in that. They love her too much and both are typical Alpha men to even consider idea of sharing her but yet they give their consent when she suggests to date them both until she makes her mind about whom she wishes to choose.
This is not a menage of any sort but the chemistry and dynamics between the three of them kept me on my toes, soaking up the words and cheering for all of them for the most part. After a certain point - Things did go a little haywire thanks to Danni's actions and though I don't necessarily blame her for what she did and why - I wish she were honest with Trace and had also given him a similar chance. I don't get why she chose to hide it from him. I get she didn't want to bring sex in the equation but since the damage was already done - she might as well as let him (Trace) exploit the time with her as well. Hmm..not blaming her, but expected a little more from Danni in this book. Trace was being his usual cool, controlled and manipulative self and I continued to love him like I did in the previous book but Cole was a surprise element! I did like him based on how much I got of him in the first book but he did steal my heart and show in this book!! I loved his whole possessiveness and the undying love for Dani and just how much he needed her and the extent to which he could and was ready to go for her - stubborn as ever without ever breaking down and giving up. The sex between Cole and Danni was SMOKING HOT!! One of the best sex scenes ever. The way they have sex also reflects their personalities and the intensity of their 'love' for her. And that's what makes their chemistry - be it Danni and Cole or Danni and Trace truly stand out!!
As far as the pacing is concerned - It was good. Never boring and though there was not too much suspense and drama as I had hoped for- it didn't spoil the reading experience. I had a fair guess on how things would unfold and it did go along the same path - so there were no surprises as such. But the ending was not that satisfying and felt too rushed and jarring. It was too in the face and felt like it was thrown just to pump up the drama quotient and to leave it at another cliffhanger, which honestly wasn't necessary to build up the final arc. Her being indecisive and yet a step closer in making the final choice would have been good enough but the author didn't choose that route. Instead she dug up some stuff from the past and tried to blame 'their' past for the choice that Danni makes without putting those two in any negative light. Again, it's a smart way of storytelling but also a tad bit too convenient. The entire book is again from Danni's POV so we know only how much she knows. And these two never tell her the complete truth so the story and their past -with the whole justification for their actions are shouldered by this big confidential work that they do that Danni and the readers are not aware of. This way, we aren't given a detailed account of what is happening and why -and if it even completely makes sense without any loopholes -and we are just left to assume certain things and take the author's words for granted without trying to dig deep. I really hope she gives a proper explanation and more clarity in the next book . If Danni is actually stuck in their mess and is in too deep-she and us have every right to learn the complete truth, right?? Anyway, except the ending (last two-three chapters), the book was thoroughly engaging and fun to read without any over-the-top drama. I can't wait to start with final book in the Trilogy. Diving in right now. 4-4.5 HOT and Sizzling Stars...more

Despite its small flaws and pacThis is the sequel to the Bittersweet Surrender and follows the story of Charlotte and Will from the first book ended. Despite its small flaws and pacing issues, I really enjoyed the first book and it had also ended on a shocking note, so I was really excited and looked forward to reading the sequel.
This is an interesting continuation to the story and has POV' chapters from both Will and Charlotte. The first book centered mostly on Charlotte and we understood her dilemmas and feelings perfectly, but this is mostly centered on Will and their relationship as a whole, giving the much desired complete picture.
Like the title suggests- This book deals with addiction- Will's to be more precise. The way I interpret it- it's a word play signifying his addictive love for Charlotte as well as his addiction to alcohol. This was not touched in the book and hence this news came as a surprise, but it fits with the overall story. In fact, one of the issues I had with the first book was that Will's backstory was not addressed at all, and somehow, I felt a chunk was missing in it. That problem is completely solved with this book that touches upon not just his addictions, but his upbringing as well as his relationship with his family and jealousy towards his brother. Those parts, especially interactions with his rather dysfunctional family was handled very well.
Coming to the plot and pacing of the whole book- I have mixed feelings. At pats it was really good, especially how Matt was handled, the proofs that he had gathered and the whole Board that Will and Charlotte were answerable to. These were dire situations and was handled with care, and maturity without dragging it or taking it too casually. It felt very professional and believable. Nothing was sugarcoated as such. I also loved how this impacted their relation and how they were able to fight for each-other even in the muddy-waters. But again, having said that, some scenes really didn't have too much to offer to the overall plot and in fact, it slowed the pace considerably. A lot of such scenes can be trimmed or shortened making the book shorter, without impacting the overall plot.
The sex scenes were written extremely well. I really believe the author really outshines herself with every such intimate scene and kudos to her for achieving that BUT, so many were really not necessary. There was a sex scene almost every one or two chapters. At times it's distracting and hampers the overall reading experience.
Jumping onto the characters - Both of them got on my nerves on quite a few scenes. Will, to an extent I can understand. He is scared to reveal about his addiction to her because her abusive dad had similar issues and he is scared of her reactions. Point taken. But what's with Charlotte's childishness and insecurities? Will has done everything possible for her - He was ready to leave his practice without any complaints for her sake, and ever ready to marry her, but she had so much insecurities! She was not ready to listen to him, despite telling him repeatedly as to how much he loves her. Throwing a tantrum every single time and getting pissed is clearly not the solution, but she did for most part of the book and it got on nerves. So as a character, she is not my favourite, but I suppose this was required to give the couple lessons to learn and grow from. So for the book, it works - kind of, but I wish she were more sensible and matured.
As a conclusion, I would say that I enjoyed reading it, though it did bore me at parts. Writing was really good and I loved how realistic it was - Even as it touched upon many sensitive issues.

K Webster writes taboo amazingly well - She adds her own touch to it making it beautiful and filthy yet at the same. She totally outdid herself with this book!! Her sex scenes were dirty, HOT and mind-blowing!! The kind that merely reading and imagining could dampen my panties:D It was really soooooooo HOT and Creative- I am fanning myself!! Kudos to K Webster for writing those sec scenes so amazingly well. Having said that, I did feel the story was rushed and too short..maybe? I haven't read the other stories in the Taboo Treats, so maybe they are all like that?? Not sure. The story flowed smoothly but little too smoothly for my liking. There were no 'drama' and even upside downs for that matter. Everything fell into place seamlessly and I was waiting the whole time for something BIG to happen. Even the ending seemed king of anti-climactic. Characters could have been flushed more - especially that of River's. That would have made her instant attraction towards her coach ( Everett) more palpable. Her backstory definitely had a lot of potential. That could have been dug deeper. But I did love the chemistry between Everett and River even when they weren't having sex. Their banter was very entertaining!! Overall this was a enjoyable short read:)...more

I liked it in parts and didn't in some parts. The parts I liked, I liked a lot and the ones I didn't were crucial for the story structure so I'll go with neutral 3 stars. Spoilers follow!! This book kick starts where the epilogue of the first book ends. We learn about Clair's pregnancy and then there is a year back where Journey is born ( It is a very nice name) Clair is confinement to a house with Trent and the true mastermind behind the whole plan - Tina( Clay's mom). This revelation which is supposed to be a big shocker fell flat for me. It almost fell like the author did it just to pull the rug off our feet. Just for the sake of some twist and shock. I am really curious to know if right from the start this was planned or it was a decision that she took when she started with this book. James ( Turner's dad) was more of a monsterr than a villain and it seemed to right to kill him in the first book but that obviously left a void for a new villain and since Trent was already showing redeeming qualities, it didn't seem right to give him that Honor, so entered Clair's mom. She was never portrayed as evil in the first book- more like someone behind money, but in this book- she is eevn worse than James?! ( If that's even possible). So for me, her inclusion and intention didn't quite add up. This is my take on the story - but Tina"s character was too elastic and pure evil. I still don't get why she hates her daughter as much as she does. Is that even humany possible for a 'mother'?! It started out with a promising story which actually had me biting my nails in anticipation but the way it progressed- though it was unpredictable it didn't live upto to the hype. Everything fell into place too smoothly for a HEA but there were so many questions left answered and loopholes that overall treatment despite any over dramatization fell flat and lacked luster. I wish there were more drama and suspense. Till the last page I was waiting for it, but nothing happened except what was supposed to? It really let me down in that aspect..leaving me so many what ifs..And also what happened to the great plans of Clair?! It wasn't mentioned what it was in the first place - except that she planned on using Turned. But despite that she acted pretty dumb, letting her emotions take over especially in times of danger. What I did like - Clair. In this book she was someone I could emphatize with and root for. I liked her determination and will to fight.I also liked how after she is reduced, she takes her time to get over her trauma and how delicately those scenes are handled. I also liked chapters from Turner's POV. The author has tried hard to make us sympathize with him and I did, so that's why for me, the ending was satisfactory. I liked Journey's adding into the story and the whole family - especially TURNER. He is the best example for an ideal husband. I loved everything about him. I also had a problem with the pacing- mainly because of the number of flashbacks. one or two would be enough but there were too many with her and Turner which didn't add much to the plot except show us just how idea a couple they used to ( that was pretty much established in the first book). So adding it just for the sake of sex scenes seemed unnecessary. Overall - Not great but not bad either....more

Another fantastic start to 2018. Even without knowing if the book belongs to Julie Johnson, if I pick up her book, two pages in and I would be damn sure that it's her book. She has this unique funny, sarcastic, introspective writing style that so far, I haven't found in any another author. It's like Julie's signature writing style and it always stands out no matter which book it is. It's the same even with this book. I loved the whole lot of comparisons and the inside thoughts of Violet. It adds the necessary humorous in this otherwise angst filled survival story. I loved her whole idea behind this book which was inspired by a story within her other book. Writing this book was a masterstroke!! As a writer, I know this is quite a difficult book to write and involves a lot of reaserching to get the facts the right and the whole scenario realistic without making the whole survival in a deserted island too simple or too difficult. On this grounds, Julie has done an excellent job. Certain scenes were so difficult to read, my hands were literally shaking, which again shows the justice she has done to the whole scene. Not so surprisingly, I loved the lead characters and even Ian. Ian is a sweetheart and a fun guy. I especially loved his 'leg' jokes. Coming to Violet, she is a typical Julie Johnson type of heroine - sassy, strong, smart and Beck is our brooding hero. A man with few words. Over the course of the book, I loved their banter, the way love developed between the two and how they finally actually 'get together'. Beautiful timing and description. I wish there was more conversation between the two, but given the circumstances, and their feelings, this also worked out quite well. I only wish the ending was more..I don't know.. fulfilling? complete? elaborate? It ended on a nice note, but I still felt something was missing. There is the slow burn, there is romance, there is a nice story, good character development, but still that ending satisfaction was missing. That might be because she is giving it a sequel..she has left it at such a point.. I hope that's true. I can't wait for more of Beck and Violet....more
