A warning - Whether one loves this book or not solely depends on whether they like the main protagonist- Henna. For me she was very brave, open and so full of life. She was very different from other female protagonists in terms of her attitude and mannerisms. She was also immature, a little too reckless and melodramatic at times but that can be chalked up to her age. Still, she carried the weight of the whole book on her shoulders, which was a very bold move from the author. The energy and life that Henna brings gives wave to the story making the author’s choice of putting the spotlight on her totally pays off. Kudos to her for letting Henna become the main protagonist. Though Bodhi as her love interest plays the second half to their love story, it’s still Henna who very much runs the show. And it’s mainly her decisions together with cards played by fate then makes for the unconventional, surprising and unexpected routes this story takes. I liked Bodhi and could empathise with his situation and decisions he had to inevitably take, but he was certainly not my fav character. I found Hanna more relatable and likeable though she was a little too loud and melodramatic at times. My fav characters were Hannah’s mom, her stepfather and Bodhi’s dad. Berett (Bodhi’s dad plays a titular role in second half of the book) was a very enlightening character that brought real angst to the story leading to difficult choices. The entire portion was handled very delicately and gave more boost to Henna’s character. Despite it being an insta love of sorts I could totally see and root for Henna and Bodhi as a couple. They were good together despite the wrong timing and their individual flaws. Overall this story had a powerful impact on me. Right dose of angst, love, humour and life lessons. ...more

I would label it as tragically beautiful. So angst filled, deep and emotional. Based on the blurb, I knew what I was getting into and it did deliver on all those grounds and left me reeling, musing over the characters even after finishing the book To surmise, it's a second chance romance but it's so much more. It's about the unpredictability of life, sorrow, grief and the need to move on and the steps that need to be taken effectively 'live' again and not merely survive. This book explores that in such a realistic way, and as much as it hurts, some scenes so very touching, bringing out tears, it's also 'unputdownable'. The charm of this book lies with its writing. It's written so artistically, there is a magical touch to every scene, making it take flight and appear right in front of our eves. More than the characters and story, it's the storytelling that steals the show. It's my first book by the author and I am blow over by her writing skills. It's so lithe and fluid. The second reason for this book to stand out is the character of 'Adrian'. He was Nadia's husband who dies 30% into story. His presence is strongly felt throughout the book. He was such a devoted husband, whose love for Nadia had no visible bounds and the degree to which he knew her is so impressive. He is a very rounded, swoon-worthy and admirable character. The way he orchestrated everything prior to his death to ensure Nadia is well taken care of financially made me cry. Not sure if they were happy or sad tears but it was so very touching and heartfelt. And also arranging everything so meticulously for Nathan and Nadia to meet at the right time and giving them a chance at their very own love story is so selfless and wise. I absolutely loved Adrian's character. Nadia and Nathan were also easy to love and cheer. Their grieving stages and their simmering attraction for one another was portrayed realistically with a gentle touch through their time in the cabin. All in all they made for a good couple. This story is not about what happens but more on how it happens and what it takes to reach thag point. It's all about the sorrow and grief filled yet hopeful journey. 5 stars for this emotional read....more
I can't put in words just how much I loved, adored and enjoyed this book. Once I started, I couldn't stop. It This book is everything nice and Perfect
I can't put in words just how much I loved, adored and enjoyed this book. Once I started, I couldn't stop. It was that good. And I meant it - it was everything. The feels, the angst, the humor, the anticipation - it was a perfect concoction and I devoured it completely. Firstly, I was very eager to read Nate's book and I started loving the hero, but Gracelyn was a surprise package too. She was so funny, sarcastic and so easy to love. And then we also had Morgan, Gabe and Mr. Hunt to balance out the story. I loved Morgan (Nate's 10 year duughter who is wise beyond her age- she is the real star of this book. She is so adorable and her relationship with her dad is the best aspect of this book. This book touches on a lot of stuff, deals with many aspects and it does it so right. All of them from parenting, to dealing with sorrow, letting go, compromising, being selfless for the kids, growing up .....the list is endless. I especially loved how it quite humorously and maturely handles the age of the leads and how they go about their love life, offering a stark contrast to how the same would have shaped out if they were in their twenties. That's the real beauty of this book. It doesn't gloss over 'adulting' and set backs people 40+ face and the responsibility that hangs heavy on their shoulders. And yet, this book also shows the beauty of such a love and also proves thay depsite an unconventional and angst filled route, how it can still work out. For showing it so realistically and beautifully, it deserves 5 stars and more......more

This book reminded me as to why I love Kate Stewart as much as I do. It's splendid, superb and just soo romantic and heart breaking. Everything that I had hoped for in book 1 and even more was found in this book. Whatever complaints I had with book 1 was redeemed in this book and that too in such an extraordinary way, bringing fresh romance, and tying together all loose ends that it more than made up for what Flock lacked and made this overall a MUST READ ROMANTIC DUET.
And all because of the addition of one amazing, intriguing and unique character - Tobias. He made thus book 5 + stars worthy just by his presence and the drama/suspense he added to the story. My main grievance with book 1 was that the story and characters hadn't come together well, but with this book, all the pieces fit together perfectly, leading to a very interesting ensemble. The characters grew and boy, did they amaze me. Every one of them - Sean, Dominic, Tobias and especially Cecilia. After Tobias, it's Cecilia's inspiring growth that made this book a masterpiece. In the last book few of the character's choices grated on me, but in this book, I loved all of them and could completely understand their actions and the driving reason behind them, and the inevitable had to happen - Call it destiny or the tale of Star-Crossed lovers, but it had to happen and it did - so romantically, sexually, infused with such tragedy. I can't express just how beautifully tragic it was. I didn't just read it, I actually 'felt' and that's what makes this book stand-apart. And the leap of nearly 6 years, did wonders to Cecilia's character, making her grow to be so fierce and independent, yet she never stopped loving 'them' and that's what forms crux of the story. I absolutely loved how nothing was smooth, easy or straightforward and the barriers/obstacles were also resolved in a satisfactory way. That doesn't mean it was perfect on all grounds. I still had few concerns which weren't resolved completely, especially when it comes to Roman. But these small gaps/concerns are easily forgotten in the face of the tragic romance and THAT sexual chemistry. This book is not just a love story, it's about parenthood, brotherhood, trust and loyalty, a fight to bring some justice to this corrupt world and more importantly about forgiveness and true strength of love.

Having said that, as much as as I enjoyed it, I wouldn't call this the best book by the author. It was really good, but I wanted it to be so much more, so I was kind of disappointed that it didn't reach that level but nevertheless it was an enjoyable read. I loved the setup, the whole idea about first love and moving on, only to meet again under different circumstances. Still, somehow I feel this would have been better off as a two book series giving enough time and scenes to unravel Chloe's relation between Olive and Lance. I kind of felt it was too easy and fast for her to fall so deeply in love. I could connect with them but it wasn't enough. I wanted more chemistry and sparks. Though the love was present, it felt a little too forced and especially when it comes to Lance - too convenient. I could get Chloe for the most part but I can't say the same about Oliver and especially Lance. Oliver as the first love - sweet, hot and so very handsome was believable and though Lance was shown to be different from him - very rich, professional and in control, the book didn't get into the depth of their characters - they became secondary characters to Chloe who took the center the stage. Not that it's wrong or bad, but considering it's a love triangle with two male leads, glossing over their characteristics left me unsatisfied. All we know for sure is that these two are madly in love with her - but that's about it. I quite didn't understand what's so special about her and what made them 'connect'. Regarding Chloe - I wasn't a big fan of her. It's not like I dislike her or love her. I am very neutral about her. I get her dilemma but somehow it didn't gel well with me - I feel she should have done so much more especially in the beginning with Oliver. They let each other go very easily. Coming to the end, it made sense and felt RIGHT though again, I wasn't all too happy with it, given that it was a standalone, it made up for it. So overall I enjoyed it but I didn't love it as much as I hoped to....more

It was very emotional and filled with angst, that quite literally made me cry for the characters. The story as presented in the blurb pretty much sums up with it is about but there is so much more to it that can be experienced only by diving into the story. Despite knowing what is bound to happen, the story never meanders and neither does it lose its pace. It is filled with surprise, twists, a little humor and sass and so much pain but overall makes for a beautiful, tragic and hopeful read. The book's biggest strength comes from it's characters and the way it's been written. The writing style and the tone matches perfectly with the story. I especially loved the transition between present and the past. It happens in two places and it's been done so beautifully almost like I am watching a motion picture. The 'past' chapters are very apt and effective, showing how their love blossomed and how one night ruined everything. I especially loved all the 'time' references made my Thea. They resonates beautifully with the story and became unique to her character and love for Ramsay. All the characters are spot on, unique with a lot of depth to them. I couldn't dislike a single one of them. My favourite was Thea. I really admires her patience and loyalty towards Ramsay and her will to wait for him despite him asking her not to. It's not easy and it's not something anyone else in her place would have done! And yet she held onto to that love and promise they had made as kids without any doubts or second thoughts. I also loved how mature and sacrifical Ramsey was. What he did hurt and broke Thea but I understood his reasons for the same and I salute him for that. These two were perfect for each other and they were one of those 'meant to be together' couple. I loved them both! And yet another interesting character we have is - Nora (Ramsay's sister). She is also amazing and so very relevant to the plot. They all come together to make a tight-knit family that has to stay together no matter what. Overall I absolutely loved this story and would recommend it to all those who love angst filled, true love stories!! One of the best reads of the year for me....more

That's the first word that came to my mind on finishing this book. I didn't know what to expect from this book when I started with it, and I wanted this story to take me by surprise. It not only took be a pleasant surprise but it took me on a roller coaster ride with loads of highs and lows and broke me apart but by the end of it, it also managed to put me back together This book was EVERYTHING and honestly, I didn't find anything to complain about. It has all possible elements that makes a story complete and memorable and at the core of it was a couple that were just meany to be! No matter what. Connor and Ellie was that couple and I adored them sooo much. After reading this book, they have definitely gained a spot in my all time fav couple list. This story spans many years, starting with Ellie and Connor during their school days all the way to their adult life. Their individual struggles, wish to bond and understand one another and also their immature and hasty decisions form the story and feels very realistic. They are not perfect and neither are they bad or selfish, and it's not like I disliked either of them. But certain situations and the way they reacted to them make a world of difference and managed to tore them apart. But like I said, these two were meant to be, so they always found their way back to each other - it was fated to happen. But they also learned from their mistakes, vowed to change and never repeat again. The way their love story blossomed was so also very beautiful and something I could connect with, right from the start. Nothing felt forced and there was no drama for the sake of drama either. Everything fell into place so perfectly towards the end bringing in a lot of angst too. But even that added to the beauty of their love stories. Also a special mention to Ellie's family and especially her brother. He was so damn funny, smart and supportive at the same time! He was a joy to read about. Overall I loved this story and is definitely of the best books to come out this year. Hoping to read more from this author :)...more
This book was heartbreakingly real and so filled with angst, I loved it. It was a love triangle but different from the other books of the same trope. This book was heartbreakingly real and so filled with angst, I loved it. It was a love triangle but different from the other books of the same trope. It has its own unique flavor to it and so very 'unpredictable' and so many 'OMG I didn't see this happening' moments and that's what mainly stole the story for me and especially the three lead characters - Stevie Everett and Aiden. They were all flawed and never always right and yet despite their flaws, the author made me connect with and love them nevertheless. Let me start with Everett - he is a really broken guy and all he wants is an escape and a fresh start that he hopes to attain by touring with the band. But he will have to leave behind his one true love that - Stevie ( his best buddy Hendrix's sister) and that's a heartbreaking goodbye without any hopes for a future. But life is never that simple and easy is it? And the author proved it with there books where their paths keep interesting and he can't just let her go. She is all he sees, and feels and even writes about and those songs of his are so very beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time! But Everett is an addict with a very low self esteem and this makes him fuck up so many times and that's when Aiden comes into the picture. He is picture perfect and exactly the kind of person who could complete and be there for Stevie, everyone Everett decides to just walk away without any promises of ever returning. I was in verge of tears everytime Stevie found herself stuck between the two men in very sticky stituations indeed. She couldn't help love them both in such similar yet different ways. And Every time she had to make a choice between the two ..my heart literally took a fall. I could connect with Clover and every direction she took. Hear pain and even love was palpable and the strength she had to accept such a love and forgive is also something I really looked upto in her. She was the true star in this whole story. The only reason I am giving this 4 instead of 5 is because of Aiden's character and relation with Stevie that could have been explored more. He was a great character, no doubt in that, but I felt he wasn't given as much attention and scenes that were given to Everett and Stevie...more
This book is all about the feels and interwoven play of emotions. It's such a beautiful and incredible mix, that till the very end it holds our heart This book is all about the feels and interwoven play of emotions. It's such a beautiful and incredible mix, that till the very end it holds our heart hostage. This story was so complex and yet felt very smooth and simple when bring read. Unique and throat provocation executed in such a clever and intriguing way. Though the plot of the story is something unusual, it's the way it unfolds that makes it even more intriguing and almost gives it a thriller like vibe. That's what I love the most about Marni Mann's books. They are all romantic at the core and yet have this suspenseful atmosphere where we can't really predict what's going to happen and what has already transpired. It's like there are two parallel storyline usually in two different timeless that seamlessly integrates towards the end, also providing this we heartbreaking and angst filled climax where the truth is finally revealed. And it has worked so far for her every single book and for that she deserves a special kudos. This book had Jared and Billie as two main protagonists in the present timeline, who meet 'coincidentally' in a flight where they are seated next to each other and the happenings there stars a cute love story and in parallel we also have Andrew and Honey from an earlier timeline and we also see their romance brewing and slowly evolving through the years.and until almost the 70% mark, I was clueless on how the two stories tied together and when finally the trust was revealed, I was so heartbroken! It's such a tragic smart and beautiful touch that gives a whole new 'twist' to the story and also a very different perspective and how things played out. Truly marvelous, and so very romantic! Loved loved it! My one small teeny wineeny complain is that there was no showdown as such between the two main leads and a better, more rounded ending. Not that's it's absolutely necessary, but it could have made this even better....more
This was a good conclusion to the father-son duet and I am really impressed with the author, especially on how she chose to tackle such a taboo story This was a good conclusion to the father-son duet and I am really impressed with the author, especially on how she chose to tackle such a taboo story in a very realistic manner. I had my complaints with the first book - with regards to the pacing but this book improvised in the pacing but where earlier I had liked all characters, Holland got on my nerves on quite a few occasions. I loved Maguire even more in this book. I loved everything about him - about how patient, understanding, sweet and stubborn he was. His character growth this book was phenomenal and I was crushing hard on him the entire time and that's precisely why I was so miffed with Holland for the most part. I get her heistancy and fear, I really do BUT she kept giving mixed signals to this MAN who who was ready to move the sky and Earth for her and Evey time she made some progress and took few steps forward, she would walk a mile backward, believing that the universe was conspiring against her. For the taboo love SHE was giving into, she can't really blame the universe and make it a reason to keep him at bay. I really believed Maguire deserved someone better. Holland was just too confusing, irritating and snarky for me to like in this book. The story was also entertaining. Though I had a string hunch on how it would end I was really curious to see how and when it would lead to that point and I wasn't left disappointed on those grounds. A lot happens over the span of this book with new characters with quite a lot of potential being introduced and there is also the constant push and pull (mainly from Holland) between the two that though a little repetitive at parts, doesn't get tiring as ever scene between the two has something new to offer - be it then falling more in love or giving to their sexual desires or Holland lashing out at him or just breaking apart. I also loved the whole family-friends Dynamics with Elsie, Ned, Teagan, Jase and even Christine brings some new surprises with her. And the climax worked for this book despite being a little too convenient and contrived. But then again, they do say that when it comes to true love, universe does pull some strings afterall and this was the best example for the same. Overall, I would go with 4 stars....more

CD Reiss is a new author for me, but the blurb and cover was intriguing enough for me to go in blind and give it a fair shot. This book was refreshingly - 'different' for me. The writing style as well as the way in which the story unfolds was new and novel. Initially it took me little time to get used to it, and some transition between the scenes seemed jarring, but it was definitely not a showstopper. I loved how the story alternated between past and present evolving at a leisurely place but still keeping up the suspense.
This book was infused with lot of elements and it clearly worked in its favour - a beautiful, heart-warming package of tragedy, helplessness, fear, freedom, hope and second chances. And the book names completely aligns with the underlying story and the message that the author is trying to convey. And what was truly captivating about this book was the music. Music references , and it being the symbol of their love, truly elevated this story and made their love story all the more real and heart-touching. I loved how the writer was able to infuse music in the expression of their feelings. That was true spotlight of this book for me.
As far as the characters are concerned - I have mixed feelings. I obviously dislike Peter, finding absolutely no redeeming qualities in him. Regarding Gabriel and Carrie, I like them as a couple. Complimenting each other and having great chemistry, but as individuals - not so much, especially Carrie. I could empathize with her, but I didn't seem to really love her. She has guts, and I get what she seeks, and why she takes certain steps, but I wish she were - more bolder, and firm, perhaps? She got herself played into some nasty and 'dark' situations, but if she were to have stood up for herself and her beliefs right from the start, a lot of hardships could have been avoided. And I wasn't a big fan of her initial cynical attitude either. Gabriel was far more likable, and a nice, charming, simple, creative hero, but then again, I didn't really fall in love with him, though I do appreciate his determination and unbending attitude. Overall, I can describe this story as a modern-day spin on Romeo-Juliet with people rather families with power and money taking over the role of 'divider' between the two. And I also liked how the suspense (though not too heavy) was interlaced with the story, making it all the more interesting.

Spellbinding, amazing and truly intriguing in every sense of the word. I was mind-blow and couldn't get enough of it. Truly brilliant! Marni Mann has nailed it this time and it's as perfect as it can get. Where do I begin? I don't want to give away anything it the plot. It's so good and well drafted and intricately layered that it has to be dived into blond. Only then can this story be so enthralling. Reading the blurb, I had quite a few guesses as to what the story would be about but believed it would have strong romantic roots. I was right about the romance part of it, but tell story part...wow there was no way I would have seen it coming from the start. That's the brilliance of her writing. The way she had structured the story - The before after and the three different narratives that she has used - first person POV for Jesse and her husband, Emery and this person POV for Charolette (Emery's assistant) made perfect sense! I was totally lost in the beginning unable to figure out how everything adds up, but the way so seamlessly and beautifully it ties up at the end left me speechless! I loved how much planning and thought the author has put in planning the chapters and unraveling everything in a slow yet suspenseful pace. Hats off the to execution as well. It never felt dry, slow or boring. there was always something haooen either in the Before or After that added more to the story, removing the haze and providing a much clearer picture. Initially I thought I had most of it figured out. (Like I could guess the plot for 'When ashes fall') but I was right and wrong at the same time and that there is the beauty of the story as well as the writing. It's not at all predictable and though there are not twists at every turn, the climax had be jaw dropped open and I was struggling for answers. Not all parts were surprising, as we get one reveal sometime post the 50% mark and that pretty much sets the tone of the book but the how and when part of it were the true show-stealers. Though I had made kind of weird guess earlier, the author had smartly added a red herring to defect our train of thoughts that clearly works (t least in my case). The best part was the ending thought answered the questions, it paved way for some questions and also discussions that the author has herself mentioned/addressed post the acknowledgement session. And those questions really makes us think, questioning the very nature of the characters, their ultimate motives and how right and wrong they were. And what works - there so no definite answers for the same. We never learn the characters perspectives for the same. It works beautifully for this book. In one word - It's Perfect and one of the best books of 2019. Loved it!!

All the feels that thI didn't think I would cry but much to my own surprise, tear drops trickled down my cheeks when I closed this book on my Kindle. All the feels that this book evoked was just too much...kudos to the author for making me feel so strongly!! Her writing is so powerful! So sharp and focus like a pointed arrow thrown right at a person's heart! There is no escape from it. One should just let go and embrace the agony that comes with this book! In pain lies beauty and love and this book stands as the best example for that. Coming to the actual review - I am not going to be disclosing the actual study because it's better to go along the journey the author takes us, blindfolded and completely at her mercy. That's the best way to actually 'live' this book. The writing style the author has adopted fits perfectly for this book. The lines are short, sharp and to the point, that make pain that comes with them all the more profound! And even way she has chosen to narrate the story - alternate chapters of past, present and multiple POV is befitting for the settings chosen. And also there is uniqueness in Alex's (female protagonist) who works first as a paramedic and then as a dispatcher. Same holds for Declan who owns a private airline and is a pilot himself. It's refreshing to read about their progression! Though the storytelling that the author has employed is rather unique, the first few chapters clue us in on what has happened. This is a real Love story and not a thriller where one is scratching their heads trying to figure out what the hell is happening but the approach chosen by the author has a lot of resemblance to a psychological thriller. The way the chapters transition (done very beautifully at times - feels like a motion picture), the foreboding atmosphere of mystery and suspense around the big 'secret' of the past, makes it seem more like a thriller. In fact, when I read the first few chapters, I was wondering if this is something sort of a romantic suspense?! But the more I read, the more affirmed I was about my opinion on how the situation actually us. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out but I don't think author was going for building suspense or writing a thriller. It was all building towards a heart-breaking, gut-wrenching climax that we will all see coming and even try to prep for it, but it will break us nonetheless and this pain was something I actually cherished and felt deep!!! Ahhh----it was sooo beautifully written and the way everything fell into place towards the end was perfection! I loved all the characters a lot - especially Rose - Alex's friend. Her loyalty and love for Alex is what defines the friendship. Declan and Smith both were heart-throb boyfriend material and I could see what they saw in Alex to fall soo deeply in love with her. And the time and place the significance of the title of the book is revelaed is one of the most painful moments in the book!! I gave up trying to hold back my sob then. In so many ways, I can totally see this book as a motion picture! It's so beautiful and touching!! I couldn't get enough!! I will go with 4.5 stars for this tragic yet hopeful tale....more

The best way to describe it would be - A slow burn romance mixed with a dosage of crazSuch a beautiful, splendid and heart-warming read this one was. The best way to describe it would be - A slow burn romance mixed with a dosage of craziness and certain taboo elements. Before I get to the actual review- I have to say this: This book made feel a lot of 'de javu moments". There was this uncanny resemblance to Thomas and Layla (from unrequited- one of my all time fav books) in terms of overall gist of the story, taboo nature, the main protagonists, their relation dynamics, the story pacing and even certain scenes!! In so many ways it felt like a rehash of unrequited with different characters and in a different setting. THAT will be always be my top fav by the author but this was no less!! It was agonizingly beautiful in everything - the story, writing as well as the characters. Okay so coming to the actual review : This book has a very strong, complex and heavy storyline dealing with mental illness - suicide. Despite that it never took a dark tone and though it conveyed a lot about the illness, its nature and the treatment (if any), it never felt too gritty and painful to read. There was a nice hopeful and romantic feel to it but again nothing was sugar coated but was handled with finesse and balance with right proportions of angst, love and sex. The tone and pacing were top notch. Absolutely no complaints there. The story by itself offered quite a few taboo elements and that's what made it all the more enticing. The taboo love affair between a psychiatrist and his depressed patient. I think the author has a penchant for writing taboo stories - In case of Unrequited it was a student and a teacher ;) anyway, moving on, the settings of a psychiatric facility was also very intriguing. I haven't read other books that went into so much details about how actually they function and the daily routines of all the patients admitted there. It was very realistic, and created a very good understanding of the overall functioning and even the treatments offered. I loved the whole dynamics between Simmon and Willow. They form an amazing super hot and perfect couple. They both have their own set of flaws but complete each other so flawlessly!! More than liking them individually, I loved them together as a couple. They just clicked. Most of the chapters are from willow, so I could totally get her perspective on everything. Initially I has a problem with truly empathizing and liking her character. She used to lie and it seemed like she was in denial about he down illness but that haze was cleared when Simon walked into her life and she finally opened up to him about everything. Simon actually gave me a different lens to view her in and then I started to really admire and like her. By the end of the book she had completely grown on me Simon is perfect match for Willow but as a protagonist, I had several issues with him. That might be because I got very less chapters from his POV and most of his secrets are not revealed up until the end. There was a mystery, aura and also cockiness surrounding him, but I never got to actually look into the depths of his character. Sometimes he got on my nerves and at times I expected him to do more, react, respond, admit his feelings but he took his own sweet time and though I don't blame him per se, I wish he were more stronger and open (like he expected of his patients) The sex scenes were scorching hot and I had a really fun time imagining it in my head!! In this aspect, Saffron never disappoints. She always nails the sex scenes, adding her own creative touch to each and evey one of them . The drama quotient was kind of low and towards the end, the story became a lot predictable (maybe that's why I deducted one star?)but it didn't steal the joy while reading. I loved every single page and chapter and read it with same interest and enthusiasm. Last but not the least -This book had some amazing dialogues that were really very inspiring and motivating!! I have soooo many highlights of such lines. This book is not just romance, I felt it more like a life lesson. It teaches us to always fight against all odds, not for anyone or anything but for ourselves. A sweet love story with a powerful moral lesson - Four magically healing stars!!!!

I know that this review should primarily be focusing on the story and the characters but I had to talk about her writing skills. A big shout-out to her for writing so smoothly and flawlessly!! There are a lot of authors I love and adore, every one of them specializing in one thing or the other and when it comes to pure writing - it has to be Pam Godwin. Her writing flows so smoothly- top notch descriptions packing with vivid vocabulary evoking multitude of emotions. I really salute her rich writing. It's something that will always continue to impress and also inspire me!! Her writing not just tells the story but lets us to actually 'feel' and 'live' the story. I will never get tired of reading and re-reading her books -this one being no exception. So yeah from a writing perspective - 100 stars for this book!!! Coming now to the actual review - This story is a typical love triangle and hence without a doubt something I truly loved and enjoyed reading. Cole is back and lot of secrets are revealed (majority of them are still kept in dark-opening another bag of unanswered questions) and there is a huge showdown between the three characters right in the beginning of the book - leading to some very nice dialogues, actions and emotional turmoil. A classic showdown with just the right amount of drama and angst setting the pace and tone for the rest of the book. I loved how different Cole and Trace were in their attitudes, behavior and how they carried out a conversation, and yet how similar they were in how passionately and deeply they loved Danni. It was pure joy to read these three characters interacting with each other and coming to terms with the situation/reality they are stuck in. It was also entertaining and though it's a very emotional read there were few moments that genuinely cracked me up. Writing a believable and relatable love triangle without making the readers dislike at least one of the characters (without outright cheating) is very difficult but Pam Godwin successfully managed to pull it off with ease with her writing style as as well as the plot-line without leading to any barring holes in the plot. Danni loves them both- There is no doubt in that. They love her too much and both are typical Alpha men to even consider idea of sharing her but yet they give their consent when she suggests to date them both until she makes her mind about whom she wishes to choose.
This is not a menage of any sort but the chemistry and dynamics between the three of them kept me on my toes, soaking up the words and cheering for all of them for the most part. After a certain point - Things did go a little haywire thanks to Danni's actions and though I don't necessarily blame her for what she did and why - I wish she were honest with Trace and had also given him a similar chance. I don't get why she chose to hide it from him. I get she didn't want to bring sex in the equation but since the damage was already done - she might as well as let him (Trace) exploit the time with her as well. Hmm..not blaming her, but expected a little more from Danni in this book. Trace was being his usual cool, controlled and manipulative self and I continued to love him like I did in the previous book but Cole was a surprise element! I did like him based on how much I got of him in the first book but he did steal my heart and show in this book!! I loved his whole possessiveness and the undying love for Dani and just how much he needed her and the extent to which he could and was ready to go for her - stubborn as ever without ever breaking down and giving up. The sex between Cole and Danni was SMOKING HOT!! One of the best sex scenes ever. The way they have sex also reflects their personalities and the intensity of their 'love' for her. And that's what makes their chemistry - be it Danni and Cole or Danni and Trace truly stand out!!
As far as the pacing is concerned - It was good. Never boring and though there was not too much suspense and drama as I had hoped for- it didn't spoil the reading experience. I had a fair guess on how things would unfold and it did go along the same path - so there were no surprises as such. But the ending was not that satisfying and felt too rushed and jarring. It was too in the face and felt like it was thrown just to pump up the drama quotient and to leave it at another cliffhanger, which honestly wasn't necessary to build up the final arc. Her being indecisive and yet a step closer in making the final choice would have been good enough but the author didn't choose that route. Instead she dug up some stuff from the past and tried to blame 'their' past for the choice that Danni makes without putting those two in any negative light. Again, it's a smart way of storytelling but also a tad bit too convenient. The entire book is again from Danni's POV so we know only how much she knows. And these two never tell her the complete truth so the story and their past -with the whole justification for their actions are shouldered by this big confidential work that they do that Danni and the readers are not aware of. This way, we aren't given a detailed account of what is happening and why -and if it even completely makes sense without any loopholes -and we are just left to assume certain things and take the author's words for granted without trying to dig deep. I really hope she gives a proper explanation and more clarity in the next book . If Danni is actually stuck in their mess and is in too deep-she and us have every right to learn the complete truth, right?? Anyway, except the ending (last two-three chapters), the book was thoroughly engaging and fun to read without any over-the-top drama. I can't wait to start with final book in the Trilogy. Diving in right now. 4-4.5 HOT and Sizzling Stars...more
My first thought even as I read the book and finished it is - It is so aptly named!! More than a romance or tragic love story or forbidden attraction-My first thought even as I read the book and finished it is - It is so aptly named!! More than a romance or tragic love story or forbidden attraction- this is a story about GUILT - Vivianne's guilt to be particular(at least for the most part of it). This story was a definitely a breath of fresh air - something very different, unique and unconventional. I really didn't expect for it to progress or END that way BUT the author never promised anything or deceived us into believing it would turn out to be in a way in what we probably presumed at the beginning. I really have mixed feelings about this one and considering that it's the debut book by the author, it totally deserves 5 stars. Not that it doens't come with its own set of flaws ( or that it is perfect), but it's such a bold story so beautifully told that, even if I didn't good happy and good vibes/feelings about how the story ended ( since I am not used to such kind of stories of endings), I can't blame the author or the characters for their actions and somehow can forgiven them all and wish for their best. No book ( in a very long time) has made me feel so conflicting and confused on how to react and feel but this is a good thing, right? The characters, story and the book overall kept me on my toes and put me in such deep thoughts about life, love and guilt in general!! It's very deep in that sense and totally refreshing and matured. This is story about Vivienne and how she copes with her sadness post the sudden death of her husband Abbott. She has great support system in the form of Cassie- her best friend. She also has her 4 year daughter Tillie to take care of but she isn't really over the death of her husband who has been her first true love. But then she meets her niece - Reid (who's 18) when he comes to their lake house to help with summer camp. He reminds her a lot of Abbott especially in looks and she receives herself to believe that he is actually Abbott (at times) - especially with her depression and the pills that she takes, it becomes a lot easy. I won't say more than this as it will become a spoiler. But that's when guilt comes into the picture - her physical attraction towards Reid puts her in a REALLY deep well of guilt and everytime she finds joy in smallest things of life she feels guilty of it because as per her - without Abbot she has no right enjoying such moments. Again, not something I agree with but for Vivienne it's like her ultimate reality and there is no running from it. The point is -this whole story is setup in the theme of guilt and the author has brought out that element very beautifully. Initially I felt there were a lot of quite unnecessary flashbacks of her time with Abbott - But after I reached a certain stage in the book, I completely understood why and then it made complete sense. Abbott seemed like a really really great guy. I wish he hasn't died:( Some scenes kind of dragged and we're very sad ( especially the monologues) but then again given the position Vivienne was in, it was necessary. Did I like Vivienne? Not actually. I understood why she did whatever she did, buying couldn't bring myself to like her. She was so much in grief that I didn't see the other face of her at all. I loved Cassie though. She is amazing character and an even amazing friend!!! Vivienne is truly lucky to have her as a friend. I loved Tillie. She is so sweet!! I also like Ried. As a 18 year old, his character was written well and feelings he started to develop for Vivienne also made sense -sort of The last 20% was a CRAZY ride?! Expect the unexpected. IT will totally blown you away. But after finishing the book, it's better to give few minutes to let the ending sink and then draw the complete picture. It seems unfair and too tragic, but in its own it makes sense too. Not every story has hea and not everyone can find love again and getting over death and moving on might be impossible for some. This story is the best example for that. For its concept and bold attempt- 5 stars....more
Finally another taboo treat from K. Webster!! After the whole controversy surrounding The Wild ( which I devoured and loved, BTW), I was worried aboutFinally another taboo treat from K. Webster!! After the whole controversy surrounding The Wild ( which I devoured and loved, BTW), I was worried about not being able to get hands on such taboo treats from her, but I was truly very happy when she pulled through and gave us Hale. Wild was all about father-daughter incest in the wilderness while Hale is a brother-sister incest story in the city of Minnesota. I don't want to go about comparing the two, but there are few points that I wish to highlight. Wild was actually wild with lot of dark, crazy and even non-consensual sex in it, but though Hale is also an unconventional taboo incest story, it is not that DARK and though complicated, it has a sweeter and lighter tone to it and for the kind of relation portrayed here, it totally works. This story is about Rylie and Hudson. The tragedy of losing their parents is what really marks the beginning of their relation - comforting touches having a subtle yet girl sexual edge to thems and do it begins BUT the truth is - Rylie would have already had feelings for her brother since years - this she describes to be her sickness wherein Hale develops such feelings only when he starts to console his sister and being there for her in her times of grief. But once Hale starts to reciprocate her advances and starts to feel similarly, she sumns it up as he caught her sickness too. Though it's a nice way of logically seeing such a relationship, I wish there was more digging into Rule's head that made her develop such feelings for her brother in the first place. I am not saying it's absolutely necessary ( her feelings are palpable and believable) but it's been mentioned in the book that she had diagnosed with bipolar and repression, so more clarity on whether her actual illness had anything to do with fostering such feelings towards her brother would bring about more clarity. I loved Hudson's internal struggle between doing the right thing ( what the society and law states) and just letting himself free to fall for and fuck his sister. These emotions bring so conflicting, really tore the guy apart and my heart completely broke for him. I felt sad and sorry for Rylie too. After the loss of her parents, her brother was her only hope and her only only, so her reaching out to him and urging him to take set out on this path with her was also understandable. I also loved how K Webster has woven this heart-breaking, twisted, complicated and yet beautiful love story. Despite being brother and sister, I hapily rooted for them as a couple! I totally loved them together. There chemistry was scorching HOT and those srx scenes were just AmmmmmaZZZZinggggggg. Even towards the end, there was quite a bit of drama but despite everything, it all tied up well and felt realistic! There were quite a few side characters but I didn't really connect much with them and though thet did server their purpose, I couldn't pass a clear judgement on any of them. But nevertheless over an interesting, different and sweet read!!!...more

It was a pleasure to read it from start to end.And that ending was just soo heartbreaking!! I had to finsih it with such a heavy heart BUT the best part is I got the ARC for the second part of the duet, so that was a HUGE consolation for my crying heart. Can't wait to dive into that, but I wanted to review this book prior to that, without letting the second book change my opinion of the first. This story was just so sweet and painful at the same time. When I first started, I kind of expected it go along the usual Rockstar storylines with the paparazzi, media and stardom creating a wedge between our lead characters. But I was so glad that it took a different and more unconventional route with quite a few surprising elements but never going over the top with anything. Julie has established herself as a writer with a unique writing flare. But this particular book has a different touch to it, especially with the writing style and tone, setting it apart from her other books. I loved how the story unfolds as Felicity recollects her past and that's how the story, mainly set in Nashville begins. The way the whole city has been described, imbibed with country music, I feel like booking a ticket to there and just breathing in that place!! Beautiful descriptions, setup, and even more beautiful story. It has this simplicity element in it, which is interwoven with love and kind of an innocence and passion to follow ones dreams. The love story between Felicity and Ryder flows seamlessly, and had me glued to the pages. I loved both Felicity and Ryder. Their love was tangible and their connect was music. The way Julie used music to toe these two souls together is really fascinating. The songs are so amaaaaziing!!! I loved faded as well as the song that he writes for her. Ryder is truly an amazing character. I understood the decisions he took and hats off to his guts. His decisions weren't easy, and yet he always stood by what he wanted no matter how difficult it was compared to the easier alternative. I really felt for Felicity and the kind of agony that she has to go through her whole life. And that's the aspect that bothered me a little, making me give this 4.5 stars. I never got a clear picture about Felicity's past. There were lot of hints and it was told and not shown, making it less effective in a sense. If it were shown as a flashback, it would have painted a better picture and also that storyline was left hanging towards and wasn't mentioned again owing to the new turn her life took. That's made me want to dig deeper and learn more, but an explanation wasn't offered in this book. But nonetheless, this book was an amazing read and I really hope that the second book provides more clarity and answers regarding her past....more
