I love a story involving a sexy, wealthy man with a grumpy disposition who lives in a big, gothic mansion complete with a spectacular library and rumors of beastly behavior surrounding them. Don't you? If so, this might just be the book for you.
P. Rayne did an awesome job of incorporating all the fairytale's signature elements, along with a little violence, family trauma, and a whole lot of delicious spice. Asher and Annabelle's romance was perfectly paced, entertaining, and hot af. I read it all in one sitting, and it did not disappoint!
The whole Midnight Manor series is going to be a blast, if this one is any indication. The next installment is a retelling of Rapunzel, and I can't wait! I assume that the bartender in town having the name Cinder is no coincidence either. Rest assured, I will be reading all of these books as they come out, and if you're a retelling fan, you should, too!...more

Fear Me, Love Me by Lilith Vincent is exactAre you in the mood for something quick, spicy, and absolutely fucking unhinged? If so, search no further! Fear Me, Love Me by Lilith Vincent is exactly what you're looking for! It was created with inspiration from the author's lifelong love of Jareth the Goblin King from the movie Labyrinth and an Instagram post featuring the cover model, Jord Liddell. The result is a crazy combination of weird and hot which I know a lot of dark romance fans will appreciate.
Tyrant terrifies everyone he comes into contact with, except Vivienne. Instead of the big bad wolf he is to most, he's more like her own personal teddy bear...if said bear gave her his fingers and cock to use as a pacifier. Nobody in Vivienne's life looks out for her or cares for her, so who can blame her for falling in love with the only person who does? Sure, he's a little psychotic, but we all have our faults, right?
When you first start reading this, you may feel like you've picked up the book in the middle of the story, but don't worry, the author fills you in on the missing details later. That being said, don't expect super in depth backstories, we're given just enough information on the characters to know who and what we're dealing with. Fear Me, Love Me is a fast paced, violent, twisted, depraved romance featuring a broken heroine and a powerful anti-hero that will end the world to protect, keep, and avenge the woman he's obsessed with/loves.

Duets always scare the hell out of me. I've been burned more times than I can count with an incredible story in book one only for it all to go to shit in the conclusion. When I decided to pick up the Luna duet, I knew I was taking a risk, but with Pepper Winters penning it, I had high hopes that I wouldn't end up regretting it,.....and I didn't. Cor Amare had all the passion of Lunamare with more heartbreak, but of a different nature than anything we experienced in its predecessor.
Everything picks up right at the cliff the author left us hanging on, and I appreciated heading right back into the action. It's an emotional start to an even more gut-wrenching journey. Don't get me wrong, we get to experience a lot of Nerida and Aslan's joy in this book. They are the true definition of soulmates, and there is never a second of their story where you can deny it. Unfortunately, fate catches up to the happy couple, a beautiful day that snowballs into their ultimate nightmare.
Witnessing Aslan and Nerida endure what they did in this book had me holding my heart, leaking out of my eyes, and clenching my stomach. It's not for the feint of heart. Both Aslan and Nerida go through hell in different ways, and their pain is excruciating even to observe second hand. Prepare yourself for a bumpy ride that you'll likely never forget.

As far as subgenre goes, it's dark romance with horror elements, and as promised, it has major Frakenstein vibes. It's not a retelling, but trust me, you will understand that description when you read it. I actually want to say a lot more on the subject, but I don't want to risk spoiling anything for anyone. Just know that this particular aspect of the story is my absolute favorite thing about it.
Sullen and Karia grew up together in the same secret society, Writhe, but their lives couldn't have been more different. Karia is spoiled with designer clothes, shoes, and whatever her heart desires while Sullen is kept in the dark and abused in the most horrific ways. Despite that, Karia has always been drawn to Sullen even though her friends view him as nothing more than a freak. Sullen reciprocates Karia's interest more than she knows, but his feelings are complicated and discouraged by his insane father.
My heart literally broke for Sullen the entire time I was reading this damn book. I don't know if I have ever felt worse for a member of the Unsainted world, and that's saying something. The things he was forced to endure his whole life are beyond cruel and just really fucking sad. He deserves a happy ending with the only person that's ever made him feel like something other than a monster.
K.V. Rose left us off on a cliffhanger with this one, and I can't wait to see what happens next. Above all else, I sincerely hope Sullen's dad gets his just deserts, and I hope Sullen is the one to give them to him. Fingers crossed, it's as brutal as what he dished out to the child he was supposed to love and care for.
Horror and dark romance readers and fans of all things strange and macabre, this one's for you!
Every time I get to read K.V. Rose's work, it feels kind of like Christmas. I'm so excited I can barely stand it, and what I get once I open it up is Every time I get to read K.V. Rose's work, it feels kind of like Christmas. I'm so excited I can barely stand it, and what I get once I open it up is even better than I expected. Nobody can write toxic relationships like this author can, and Ambition is a prime example of that.

Isadora and Von's novella is nothing short of dark, dysfunctional perfection. This "best friends that won't let themselves be more than that even though they literally own each other's soul" style tale has everything an angst whore/dark romance lover like myself could want. It's a twisted, gritty, gory, raw, emotionally torturous, good time!
Isadora and Von consistently rip each other's hearts out on a daily basis, and I lived. for. it. Von is absolutely obsessed with Isadora, and while Isadora cares deeply for Von, too, she's hyperfocused on her career and position in Writhe, and she won't let anything get in the way of that. As much as I want these two to be together no matter the cost, I respect Isadora's drive and ambition to have the life she wants. It's impossible not to.
Ambition is violent, hot, and painful. If you enjoy quick, dark, angsty reads that pack an emotional punch, you're going to love it. It's a must read for all K.V. Rose fans, but you don't technically have to have read any of her books to enjoy it.
Don't expect this story to be all tied up in a neat little bow at the end, because you'll be sorely disappointed. There's more to come from these characters, so look at this as an introduction and peek inside the lives of more characters and organizations in the Unsainted world. I promise, you'll enjoy every second of it.
Embers of Mercy is a satisfying conclusion to a fantastic, dark, dystopian trilogy I won't soon forget! From the first chapter of the first book, BrynEmbers of Mercy is a satisfying conclusion to a fantastic, dark, dystopian trilogy I won't soon forget! From the first chapter of the first book, Brynn Ford had me hooked! This twisted tale kept me equal parts intrigued and horrified through the entirety of the previous installments, and I couldn't wait to dive back into this Handmaid's Tale-esque world to find out how it all would end!
This book picked up right where it's predecessor left off with me wanting Mercy to burn the whole motherfucker to the ground, and without spoiling anything, let's just say, I wasn't disappointed! Mercy Madness is a phenomenal, inspiring character whose bravery and selflessness never falters even in the face of death. I challenge anyone to find something bad to say about this woman.
Mercy was already impressive af in Sparks of Madness, but she just kept getting better from there. She isn't one that just talks the talk. Mercy's always ready to put it all on the line, not just for those that she loves, but all the women and children in her community.
Arlo was on shaky ground with me in the beginning, but by the end, he more than made up for anything he did that made me want to murder him slowly. In fact, he had the most growth of any character in the entire series. My heart broke for him in a different way than it did for Mercy, but it broke nonetheless.
Embers of Mercy is a gut-wrenching, disturbing, bloody, infuriating, glorious dark romance that sadly, will make you think of our own society in regards to women's rights, and Mercy and Arlo are characters that you'll remember forever. Before I picked up the Ember Glen trilogy, I had never read anything from this author, and now, I'll never pass anything up from her again.
Tyson is out for revenge, and Laikin is going to pay with her body, mind, and soul. He has her on her knees, sporting a shock collar, and bleeding for him in less 24 hours. Their titillating tale of treachery and torment turned love isn't for the faint of heart.
While this story can be read as a standalone, Tyson makes multiple appearances in The Ritual and The Sinner. If you're interested in reading the aforementioned titles, it's best to do so in publishing order IMO. Though we may have learned tidbits about Tyson in previous books, we finally get a glimpse into his past and find out all the events that lead up to him giving up his high rank and power in the society.
The Sacrifice is full of lies, betrayal, murder, degradation, and all the kinky fucking sex your perverted little heart could hope for! Tyson is a possessive, OTT alpha that likes Lake best when she's restrained, gagged, and coming on his cock, so be prepared for A LOT of that. I was expecting a little exhibitionism to be thrown in somewhere based on Tyson's history, but that was not the case. He doesn't want anyone's eyes on Lake's body aside from his own, and despite his reasons for marrying her, he will literally kill anyone that lays a finger on Lake. He's extremely protective of her right from the start.
Lake is confused and upset to find out that Tyson hijacked her wedding to another man, not because she loved her husband to be, but because Tyson was engaged to her sister, Whitney. Whitney was murdered years ago when she and Tyson were together, and Lake suspects he had something to do with it. As a result, she would rather murder him than marry him, but as a daughter in the society, she has no control over her life or future.
Shantel Tessier brings the spice and suspense in this sinister story of pain, pleasure, sadism, and savagery! Tyson and Lake's love is intense, depraved, and slightly unhinged. Strap in tight, and prepare yourself for a dirty, unconventional romance with a trigger list in the double digits.

Are you ready to be shocked? This is my very first time reading a book by Natasha Knight. I know! I know! I have missed out on some amazing books, butAre you ready to be shocked? This is my very first time reading a book by Natasha Knight. I know! I know! I have missed out on some amazing books, but don’t worry, I won’t miss another one! Before I was even half way through Dishonorable, I was already cursing myself for my obvious lack of good decision making ability up until this point.
After Sophia and Lina Guardia’s parents died, they were taken in by their grandfather. Sophia always felt that while he was providing for them both, he clearly favored her sister. The day he tells Sophia that she has to marry Raphael Amado when she turns eighteen to repay one of his debts, it becomes pretty apparent that she is correct on her assumption. Raphael will stay married to her for three years until she is old enough to receive her inheritance. The inheritance will, of course, go to Raphael at that time, and she will be free to leave the marriage. When she protests, her grandfather implies that if she doesn’t go along with it, the burden will fall on her sister. Sophia loves Lina more than life, so she reluctantly accepts her fate.
Raphael was recently released from prison for the murder of his own father. Since this man will basically own her for the next three years, Sophia is more than a little nervous about her impending nuptials. Will it be a marriage in name only? What exactly does Raphael expect from her? Will he force her to have sex with him on their wedding night? What happens when you promise to love, honor, and obey the scariest man you have ever met?
As is so often the case, the characters were what really made this story for me. I especially appreciate when two love interests seem to be such opposites, but wind up complementing each other perfectly. Sophia is naïve, loyal, caring, and selfless, and that is exactly what makes her a perfect fit for our broken alpha hero. Raphael needs someone that will stand by him through his dark moments and not shy away from him when he is breaking down, someone that will withhold judgement and recognize the pain behind his anger, and someone that recognizes when he needs to be taken care of even when he resists it. Sophia does all that for him and more. Raphael has a dark side, but Sophia brings out a different part of him. The side that is sweet, loving, and protective. Now, don’t think that the relationship is only beneficial to him, because it’s not. Raphael makes Sophia feel wanted, special, and loved. He goes out of his way to do things that will make her happy and keep her safe. You can feel the raw, conflicting, and powerful emotions pouring out of Raphael and Sophia throughout the entirety of the story. It made it so easy to feel their connection, root for them, and believe in their love.
Truth be told, I expected Dishonorable to be a much darker story than what it actually is. Thankfully, it’s so good that I was able to get over that pretty quickly. The writing is spectacular, the story is gritty and intense, and the characters are complex. The sex scenes are delicious; however, I didn’t appreciate the altar sex. I know some people get off on that kind of thing, but I am not one of them. Regardless, I enjoyed the hell out of this story, and I’m hoping that we will get to see these characters again if Lina and Damon get their own book. Bottom line, if this sounds remotely intriguing to you, go ahead and give it a try. I don’t think you will be disappointed!

In Reparation of Sin, we see the immediate fall out from the events that happened at the end of Requiem of the Soul. We finally start to get more of a definite sense of who is responsible, but of course, the guilty aren't finished yet. Everything comes to a head in a heart-stopping cliffhanger that will leave you on the edge of your seat!
The emotions in this book are intense and powerful! It's like a rollercoaster of pain, passion, and psychosis! You will FEEL this book. That I can guarantee!
Both Santiago and Ivy's suffering is palpable. I wanted to fucking kill the people responsible for it, and sometimes, that included Santiago himself. It was hard to witness him torture Ivy time and time again for something she isn't even remotely responsible for.
Santiago succumbing to his own demons is almost as painful to watch. He feels more betrayed, broken, torn, and determined now than he ever was. He doesn't know what to believe, but he most often chooses the path that will leave him less vulnerable.
Between Santiago's unraveling and Ivy's helplessness, I just wanted to climb inside the pages and hug them both. There are scenes between them in this book that are incredibly raw, disturbing, and downright brutal with a whole kaleidoscope of torture on full display. Prepare yourself for heart aching, stomach clenching, emotion that clogs your throat and threatens your tear ducts.
Reparation of Sin is deliciously dark, gripping, steamy, violent, and full of suspense! Santiago and Ivy's relationship is twisted and toxic. There is so much hate between them that when the love slips through, they don't know how to handle it. Instead, they continue on on a merry-go-round of self-sabotage.
Before I conclude this review, I have to applaud the authors for how expertly they've crafted this story and these characters. This could have easily turned into a mediocre romance between a domineering, barely redeemable asshole and a weak af heroine whose body betrays her, but there are so many more layers to these two! I've thoroughly enjoyed pulling back each and every one, and I can't wait to see what this duo has in store for their grand finale.

I sincerely don't know where to begin with this review. The author has me feeling all kinds of strong emotions right now. I'm frustrated, angry, hurt, invested, intrigued, and aggravated. I finished this entire book in one sitting, and I would have went straight into the next book if it was available. I can't wait to see what happens next. That being said, I'm not currently a fan of the heroine or one of the heroes. A lot of the strong emotions I felt weren't good ones, and I don't enjoy one of the romantic connections yet.
Luckily for me, I'm not a reader that has to love everything about a book to enjoy it overall. I'm a wait and see kind of chick, especially when it comes to a first book in a series. I enjoy a story with significant character growth and relationships that develop and evolve over time. I don't want everything to be the same in the end as it was in the beginning. Because of that, I'm patiently waiting to see what the author has in store for us next, how she's going to change my mind on certain characters, and how she's going to sell me on their romance. I have faith that the majority of my opinions will be completely transformed by the time I finish reading the next installment in this series.
A character I hope I don't change my opinion on is Ridge. Being the slightly unhinged dark romance reader that I am, I'm a sucker for a weirdo antihero, and Rachel Leigh delivered on that big time with his character! Sure, he's violent, merciless, and creepy af at times, but he's also loyal to a fault, protective, caring, romantic, and sweet. IMHO, at this point in time, I don't think Riley deserves him! Call me crazy if you want, but those are my sincere feelings.
Despite the extremely small amount of time we spent getting to know Lev in this book, I already love him, too. How could I not when almost everything that came out of his mouth was exactly what I was thinking? I am Lev. He is me. That's all I'm going to say about that.
Dark romance and RH fans, this one's for you!

The story was a little different than I thought it would be based on the blurb, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. If you're a fan of this author's Chained Hearts Duets, you'll be happy to know some of the characters you already know and love make an appearance here.
Jake and Oriana meet when the latter's husband surprises her by auctioning off a date with Oriana for charity. Jake outbids everyone, and before the night is through, secures two dates for himself instead of one. If this sounds like a cheating book to you, don't worry, it's actually not like that at all. There aren't a ton of crazy sex club scenes in it either even though Jake is the owner of a few.
What you can expect is a story of two people unexpectedly (to them) falling hard and fast for one another. They both have walls up for different reasons, but it's fun to watch them crumble to the ground. There are some darker elements sprinkled throughout the book, but in my opinion, it's on the lighter end of the dark romance spectrum.
Overall, I had a good time! I do wish parts of the story were more fleshed out, and the ending wasn't rushed, because this easily could have been a 5 star read for me if that was the case.
