I liked this book. I enjoyed it. I read it in one sitting. I got caught in the story.
But sometimes this just isn't quite enough. The characters were okay (well, a bit more than okay), the plot was interesting, but I just don't feel like giving this more than 3.5 stars. It may deserve them, but not in my opinion. I'll still read the next volume because I FUCKING LOVE HOW "QUEEN OF ATTOLIA" SOUNDS....more

My biggest question is: how are there so many gay men in this country/kingdom/empire/whatever the shit this is? Like, for real. Is every fucking slave gay? There were close to no women in this novel, did I miss something? Are women extinct?
Aaanyway. I didn't enjoy this book at all. The characters do not seem real and the plot is quite boring, and thus I'm not sure if I'm going to continue this series or not. I guess I'll give the second volume a try, but I'm almost sure it would be just as bad average as this one....more

I had big hopes for this book, thinking that it would be an amazing steampunk novel with a badass protagonist. It seems now that I was wrong. The writing style requires some editing and the characters aren't well built. Sophronia is annoying and her name is difficult to remember (First World Problems). All these made me give up on this series, and I'm probably not going to continue reading it.
"In the beginning there was nothing. And then there was everything."
This is a cute read. That's it. Cute and cheesy.

I saw the plot twist coming, and I wasn't surprised because it was the only plot twist that could've made this book a generic YA contemporary novel, and Everything, Everythingscreams generic YA contemporary novel. I had some high hopes regarding Madeline and Olly's relationship, but it turned out to be typical and dull. Also, Maddie's absolutely horrible at making choices.
Overall, I enjoyed it, but except for the rare disease that made this book partially unique, there's nothing original about it.

Lots of information thrown at the reader, but little to no consistency. Safi or whatever her name was sucks ass. The other girl was ok but she didn't have any storyline to work with. I kept getting the feeling that this was a sequel, maybe it would have been a better book if that was the case.

I didn't have high hopes for this one, so it's not as disappointing as it could've been. The writing style is dull, the plot is dull and the main character is dull. The superior-entities-almost-gods-everyone-else-lives-in-slums repeats itself in this book, which wouldn't have been disappointing, had the book been better than it is.
I did feel some Sanderson vibes here and there, but, once again, it was not enough. Not for my expectations. Plainly, this is a YA novel with a solid story but not so solid characters, a novel you're probably going to love if you haven't read any other Sanderson books. Otherwise, it feels like a major disappointment. I don't have the slightest interest in reading the next volume in English, I'll probably just wait for it to be translated in Romanian....more

"Elias." She whispers my name, one word full of wanting. I pull back. Her eyes, blue as smoke a second ago, darken to a stormy violet. Loving you is the worst thing that's ever happened to me. She said those words to me weeks ago. Witnessing the devastation in her now and knowing that, yet again, I'm the cause makes me hate myself. "I'm going to let go of you," I say. "If you try to take me down, so be it. But before I do, I want to say something, because we both know I'm not long for this world, and I'd hate myself if I never told you." Confusion flashes across her face, and I barrel on before she starts asking questions. "I miss you." I hope she hears what I'm truly saying. I love you. I'm sorry. I wish I could fix it. "I'll always miss you. Even when I'm a ghost."
Fuck you, Elias, for picking Laia over Helene over and over again. Fuck you, Laia, for being a useless bitch. Bless you, Helene, for sacrificing yourself even when no one deserves it, even when you lost everything. I hope you'll prevail in the end. I hope you'll get everything you want in the end. I hope you'll be happy in the end.
Things I liked about this book? Helene. Marcus (surprisingly). Helene. The Commandant. Helene. The plot, kinda. Helene.
Things I hated about this book? Nearly everything else.
Things that bothered me? Laia. Choke to death already.
