J'ai perdu mon papa cet été et j'ai du mal à remonter la pente. Dans ce roman, l'héroïne perd brutalement sa meilleure amie. Susie a été renversée par une voiture, alors qu'elle marchait tranquillement sur un trottoir. Pour Eve et son petit groupe de potes, la perte est traumatisante. Et au fil des chapitres, c'est tout un accompagnement auquel on assiste. Parfois, je n'avais qu'à fermer les yeux pour deviner, ressentir, comprendre. Évidemment j'ai ri et pleuré tout du long de ma lecture, avant d'en sortir sur une note apaisée et comblée. Eve va notamment entreprendre un périple jusqu'en Écosse et prendre du recul loin du gouffre qui l'attire. Parce qu'il y a un trop-plein d'émotions par instants contradictoires et qui pourraient brouiller certains souvenirs. Donc OUI ce choix de s'éloigner a du bon. Cette lecture, tout court, a du bon. Elle a eu sur moi un effet cathartique. Et ne vous y trompez pas, c'est truffé d'humour, de dialogues enjoués, de répliques cocasses. Les personnages sont très attachants, j'ai adoré Justin qui dégaine un flegme à toute épreuve, osant même l'humour noir propice à dédramatiser les situations pesantes. Bref. Ajoutez (Mika) une sorcière sans famille qui a peur de s'attacher pour ne pas souffrir d'être abandonnée à nouveau & (Jamie) un bibliothécaire aux sourcils froncés et au regard pénétrant qui veille sur son royaume avec l'instinct protecteur digne de Mufasa. Ces deux-là doivent s'apprivoiser pour le bien-être des trois demoiselles. Pas simple, non. Mais toute la maisonnée va retenir son souffle au gré de leurs babillages, de leurs chamailleries et de leurs errances dans la forêt.
Entendez alors la magie, les secrets de famille, visualisez le cocon, les amitiés naissantes, sentez les recettes, un peu de gin rose et beaucoup de thé aux vertus enivrantes, et vous plongez dans cet univers à part. Extravagant, doux et rêveur. Il m'en fallait peu pour succomber à cette mise en scène. Car l'ambiance est envoûtante, absolument bienfaisante. J'ai adoré y plonger. Puis prendre mon temps. Me réfugier dans le grenier de la maison. Sans envie d'en bouger.

Après avoir découvert le roman d’Emily Henry (Comme dans un roman d'été), Goodreads m’avait vivement recommandé Tessa Bailey. Quand j’ai appris que leAprès avoir découvert le roman d’Emily Henry (Comme dans un roman d'été), Goodreads m’avait vivement recommandé Tessa Bailey. Quand j’ai appris que le roman serait traduit et disponible chez L’Archipel, je n’ai pas hésité. Ô joie. J’ai adoré : les personnages, l’ambiance, Brendan, l’alchimie du couple, les déclarations dingues, l’émotion, la tendresse, le vent de folie, les étincelles, l’humour. Tout ça, tout ça. C’était si bon.
L’histoire débute de façon ordinaire. L’héroïne est une princesse des réseaux sociaux et mène une existence frivole à Los Angeles jusqu’au scandale de trop. Son beau-père décide de lui couper les vivres et l’expédie dans un village de pêcheurs près de Seattle. Sur place, Piper pourra mieux gérer son héritage paternel et apprendre à devenir plus responsable. Mais l’arrivée de notre californienne ne passe pas inaperçue. Surtout aux yeux du capitaine Taggart. D’humeur taciturne, l’homme aux manières bourrues est intimement effrayé par cette tornade blonde qui ne cesse de lui tourner la tête.
Et ça fait mouche ! Entre eux, ça pétille. C’est électrique. C’est vif, spontané. Ça franchit toutes les limites. La relation se construit doucement. L’un et l’autre résistent aux doutes, aux peurs, aux fantômes du passé. Mais l’idylle est forte. Le couple discute beaucoup et chasse rapidement les malentendus. On est vraiment dans une comédie romantique, qui fait du bien, sans sensualité débordante, même si le sex-appeal est bien réel. Oooh, le charme ténébreux du capitaine grincheux. J’ai complètement craqué. Piper aussi est une jeune femme incroyable. Bien au-delà de ses apparences superficielles. J’ai aimé qu’elle dévoile d’autres facettes, plus vulnérables et profondes. Son lien avec sa sœur Hannah. Sa fraîcheur. Ses ambitions.
L’ambiance à Westport donne également envie de tout plaquer pour adopter un nouveau style de vie - l’océan à perte de vue, le bar miteux, les larmes versées sur le quai, la communauté qui se serre les coudes, l’esprit familial à bord du bateau, cette communion d’esprit qui fait tout. C’est à l’opposé de l’existence pleine de paillettes de Piper, mais elle aussi va imposer son style et c’est étourdissant. N’hésitez pas, prenez votre ticket et changez d’air pendant les vacances. Ce roman est génial !

Elle a un mois pour terminer son roman graphique et vient s'isoler au bord de la mer dans sa maison de famille en accord avec son père très exigeant. Sur place, Liv rencontre Solal. Son voisin tellement sexy qui vient à son secours alors qu'elle simule une noyade mais qui s'emporte sitôt la supercherie découverte. Mystérieux et insaisissable, il prétend n'avoir pas le temps pour des enfantillages et prévient la demoiselle de ne plus l'approcher. Liv fait tout le contraire car elle n'a qu'une idée en tête : le conquérir. Au diable ses rebuffades. Elle le veut, dans sa vie. Dans son lit. Dans son cœur.
Si au départ la demoiselle se montre irréfléchie et cabocharde, elle va également révéler un vrai fond sensible et très touchant. Mais d'abord, elle suit son instinct et n'écoute que ses envies. Elle est obsédée par son voisin grincheux (qui se refuse à elle). Sauf qu'un lien s'est déjà créé entre eux, au grand dam de Solal, et ce lien ne va jamais cesser de se tisser envers et contre tous les obstacles ! De son côté, Solal est un homme brisé. Au fil des chapitres, on va également découvrir son histoire ... pfiou, un cauchemar ! D'où ses sautes d'humeur et son attitude, disons-le, horrible. Il campe désespérément sur ses positions et enchaîne les volte-face. Hmm. Un cas désespérant. Au final, Liv va servir d'électrochoc et c'est un moindre mal pour un (grand) bien.
J'ai franchement savouré ma lecture. C'était doux, tendre, craquant. Les personnages sont attachants. Pourtant, ils sont longs à la détente et traînent à se comprendre. À se faire confiance. À rendre les armes. (Surtout lui.) Mais c'est une romance slow burn, pleine de folie douce et de mélancolie, de drames et de larmes, de rires et de cadeaux. Du moins, c'était sans compter sur la folle furieuse du supermarché (qui lui reproche d'avoir dévalisé le rayon des cornichons). Louise est en fait une grande fan du groupe mais tombe de haut en réalisant que son idole est une personnalité imbuvable. Qu'importe. Elle ravale sa fierté et ne mâche pas ses mots. Contre toute attente, Nicolas est séduit par ce bout de femme qui le sort de sa torpeur. Il accepte d'ailleurs sans difficulté de la dépanner face à un ex fanfaron puis se surprend à la retrouver dans sa chocolaterie. Et de fil en aiguille, une tendre relation prend forme. Une relation teintée de complicité, de délicatesse et d'attirance. Ça ressemble fortement à une amitié amoureuse. Seulement, loin de fantasmer son rêve éveillé, Louise a conscience qu'une idylle est inenvisageable. Encore moins un avenir commun.
Je vais faire l'impasse sur le bref psychodrame qui survient peu avant la fin - ce serait trop beau d'espérer un schéma sans prise de tête superflue. En plus, c'est vain car le dénouement est sans surprise. Mise à part cette conclusion empressée et servie à la va-vite, la lecture m'a complètement emballée. C'était gourmand (chocolat à volonté), magique (décors enneigés à tire-larigot) et drôle (Emily Blaine excelle dans les dialogues). Même la touche romantique m'a enchantée ! Il est infiniment plus doux. Plus cocooning. Avec un soupçon de sensualité et davantage de petits gestes affectifs. On a de l'émotion, à profusion. Et une belle histoire de partage et d'éveil autour d'une solide brochette de personnages.
En tête, nous avons Ruthie Malone, fille de révérend, qui vit et travaille dans un lotissement pour retraités depuis toujours, à tel point qu'elle se fond dans le décor en s'habillant de vêtements fadasses et sans ambition de bouger. Sa rencontre avec Teddy va peu à peu la bousculer. Avec son physique de bad boy (cheveux longs et tatoué) il se faufile partout et surtout dans l'existence tranquille de Ruthie. Cet accro au fromage affiche une nonchalance parfois fâcheuse car il n'est jamais pris au sérieux alors qu'il est foncièrement attentif, bienveillant et très dévoué. Vous allez craquer pour lui ! Teddy Prescott a un cœur en or et une sexytude de malade.
Puis, nous avons Mélanie, sa collègue qui a décidé de tester sa Méthode pour rencontrer l'âme sœur. Sans compter les petites dames Parloni (Renata et Aggie) qui font tourner en bourrique leurs assistants (surtout les beaux motards sûrs de leur charme). Tous contribuent au bien-être de Ruthie et veillent sur son bonheur. Ils lui font aussi pousser des ailes et inspirer des envies de changement car notre héroïne de vingt-cinq ans doit retrouver sa confiance perdue et croquer la vie à pleines dents !

Callie Carpenter et Garrett Daniels étaient le couple vedette de leur lycée de Lakeside, ils avaient 17 ans et la vie devant eux - lui le quaterback sexy et elle la groupie follement éprise. Ils ont ensuite suivi leurs études dans des universités éloignées et ont laissé la distance avoir raison de leur relation. Depuis, Callie est devenue comédienne en Californie, Garrett est prof dans le New Jersey. Vingt ans plus tard, le destin va les réunir à nouveau et raviver la flamme (qu'on sait encore ardente). Youhou. Callie et Garrett se retrouvent dans le lycée de leur adolescence. L'attirance entre eux est toujours aussi forte. Mais leur relation est aussi plus mature et bouleversante. Un pari fou et insensé. Qu'à cela ne tienne, Nina plaque tout et s'installe dans un cottage proche d'une ferme où le propriétaire se montre grincheux et austère. Mais la jeune femme est plus motivée que jamais. Elle est pleine d'enthousiasme et d'innocence et n'écoute plus ses proches qui s'inquiètent à son sujet. Ce roman est la parfaite démonstration qu'on peut raconter une histoire niaiseuse et invraisemblable sans qu'on y trouve à redire. Oui, oui, j'étais complètement gaga à l'écoute de cette lecture et j'ai aimé ça. J'ai pris une dose de bonne humeur, de bonnes ondes positives, d'air frais revigorant et tout ça. C'était génial. L'ambiance aussi est formidable : les paysages d'Écosse, les autochtones et le folklore. Par ces temps de frustration, croyez-moi, ce bouquin est un remède efficace. Nina est un peu nunuche (la voix audio accentue ce défaut) et le dénouement un peu hâtif. Puis la vie a conduit l'un et l'autre vers des contrées lointaines. Léonie s'est installée à Paris pour devenir comédienne tandis que Enzo a poursuivi sa formation de maître de chai en partant dans le Bordelais. Aujourd'hui ils se retrouvent pour l'été car Léonie doit seconder sa sœur (enceinte) au Domaine des Manons où travaille désormais Enzo. La jeune femme ne cache pas sa déconvenue en apprenant cette nouvelle et réserve à son tortionnaire des retrouvailles explosives ! Ah ah. Ils ont tous leurs souvenirs entre ces murs, autour de cette place à l'abri des regards, entre les épicéas et les pruniers. Notre joyeuse bande d'octogénaires entre donc en résistance et met en place des opérations insensées.
Plus que leur ingéniosité à tenir tête contre le pouvoir, c'est surtout la solidarité du noyau qui vaut qu'on s'y arrête : un noyau dur en apparence car menacé de se fissurer à cause de vieilles frustrations et autres rancœurs du passé. Tous ont traversé des années de hauts et de bas liés aux aléas de la vie... c'est comme ça. On se rencontre, on fonde un foyer, on voit le petit quitter le nid, on fait des erreurs, on garde le silence et on laisse le temps faire son œuvre.
Mais il n'y a AUCUNE TRISTESSE dans cette histoire ! Juste de la tendresse. Virginie Grimaldi possède cette légèreté de ton qui fait du bien mais qui plante aussi sa petite graine. On se dit... tiens, c'est vrai. On ne peut pas lutter contre le temps qui passe mais on peut toujours enrichir chaque instant pour adoucir l'existence et son issue. Argh je n'ai pas envie d'être nostalgique car cette lecture m'a véritablement bercée et chouchoutée pendant que je picorais ces petits bouts. J'ai ainsi passé un moment délicieux... j'ai aimé les histoires des Octogéniaux au point d'avoir envie de danser en fermant les yeux... de fredonner des airs dépassés... de penser à ma famille et de faire le vide dans ma tête. Tiffy se sépare de son petit copain Justin et doit de toute urgence trouver une solution pour se loger. Leon est infirmier de nuit aux soins palliatifs et propose la colocation de son studio durant ses heures de boulot. Selon les termes du contrat, jamais Tiffy et Leon ne peuvent se croiser. Sauf que notre jeune femme exubérante est curieuse de connaître son “partenaire de couette” ! Elle va donc laisser des petits messages auxquels il va répondre laconiquement... mais le processus est enclenché. Un début de relation épistolaire s'amorce et va peu à peu souder ce couple improbable. Certes, ils n'ont a priori rien en commun : elle est vive et spontanée, collectionne les objets kitsch, s'éparpille et parle énormément ; lui veut sauver le monde et court après le temps, ne s'attarde jamais entre ces quatre murs et frôle l'infarctus en découvrant le pouf poire ou la lampe à lave qui sont ses trophées. Deux univers opposés qui entrent en collision pour (évidemment) fusionner tôt ou tard... on connaît la chanson et on aime ça. Entre Tiffy et Leon, par exemple, l'histoire est drôlement attachante et adorable ! Elle se réserve aussi le droit de prendre son temps, de jouer l'entremetteuse ou de faire semblant d'être la trouble-fête pour ne surtout rien précipiter. Car priorité à la complicité qui fait son nid doucement mais sûrement - un vrai régal ! Résultat, j'ai picoré ce roman par petites bouchées gourmandes mais savoureuses. J'ai adoré la spontanéité de Tiffy, sa vulnérabilité derrière ses grands sourires. Je suis tombé sous le charme de Leon, avec son cœur gros et son sens du scoutisme chevillé au corps. Très, très chouette lecture... qui fait du bien, qui donne le sourire et qui envoie de bonnes ondes !...more
