This one was good but not as good as the last one which I think was the best so far... or maybe the third one was. Hmmm now I can’t remember. They move so fast and start and stop so abruptly it’s like they’re all one book so I never remember which is which. I don’t know if that’s good or bad. As always there was a lot of action and this one was fast paced. More info is revealed but so are more questions. I’m like an addict I need more. This series is so insanely dark and unnerving at times. I love it. I never know what to expect or how intensely gory some of the scenes will be. There are funny and tender moments too but it’s the stark violence that hits you hard. Once I start reading I can’t tear myself away. There are so many different things going on. The storyline is so much more complicated than I could have imagined when starting this series and the characters have all come such a long way. They’re each so well developed and have so much more substance. I need the next book bad. Talk about needing a sequel stat!!!...more

First of all the audio production was done horribly. Not the narrator herself. She was actually ok other than a few characters to whom she gave very shrill voices but the actual production of the audiobook itself was not well done. It sounded tinny and echoey. It was like the narrator was reading it from the other side of a tunnel. In the beginning I kept thinking that it was my headphones or the download but than I realized it was just really poorly produced. Aside from that the concept here was intriguing if not a bit confusing at first. The story kept me engaged for the most part but overall I felt like nothing much happened. And all the unnecessary romance and unrequited love with everyone falling all over Cat was just frustrating when it came down to it. The worst thing about this entire book was the ending. Reason being that there was no ending. There wasn’t even a cliffhanger. The book just stopped. As much as my curiosity is piqued to know how things play out I don’t think I’ll be rushing into the next book if there is any chance that the audio is as bad as this was or if there is even a chance of not getting any solid conclusions. ...more

That’s why I’m reading it on kindle now. As soon as I finish one book I need to start the next one ASAP. The whole concept is so unique and the books are so fast moving. This isn’t your sweet under the sea fantasy book. It’s dark, gritty and even gory at times but it’s so good. The characters are so well thought out and I’ve gotten to know them all so well. Now that I’ve finished book 3 I’ll have to attempt to pace myself with book 4 because it doesn’t look like the next one will be out for a bit. That’s going to be torture!...more

KiThis was a pretty entertaining sci-fi space opera. The plot had me hooked right away since Teach was a down and out hero brought back to his glory. Kind of like Han Solo. It was action packed though there were a few lulls. I liked the different aliens and the characters were likable. I usually reach for more fantasy focused books so sci-fi space stuff isn’t really my thing but there was a lot of action and along with the humor inserted in all the right places this was a fun experience. I’m a huge Sarah Noffke fan and though I enjoyed this collaboration it’s not my favorite of her work.

I figured This was a totally engrossing mystery right from the start. Told from alternating POVs of several characters it had me constantly guessing. I figured out what happened before the end but it was a twist I hadn’t first expected. The secret club at the school reminded me a bit of the book S.T.A.G.S. by M. A. Bennett which was a really twisted bit that tied into the overall mystery. Overall this was a fast paced, totally engaging book....more

Even though not much went on action wise while Mare was kept a prisoner there was a lot of mind fuckery going on. There was always some sort of manipulation at work. The tension was always there. And once the action finally got started after Mare was freed it was not only non stop but also one surprise blow after another. I’m both excited and apprehensive to see what happens in War Storm. I’m a big supporter of team Mare & Cal. However at times she can be a whiny, irrational, bitch and he can be an indecisive, fool who doesn’t speak his mind. This often causes a rift between them and tension around them. Let’s see how things roll in the next installment. Right now I’m super hyped!...more

It’s a great way to get into the series if you haven’t started it yet. Ivy Granger is a supernatural detective along with her partner Jinx. They get called on for all sorts of wild cases. This one in particular was pretty interesting. I don’t want to give anything away but the end result was definitely not what I was expecting. The narrator definitely fit Ivy’s character and worked well for the book. Overall I really enjoyed this short story. I can’t wait to get into this series!

Dark funny, but totally laugh out loud ridiculous I don’t know what it is about these books but I freakin love them! They’re just so goddamned funny. Dark funny, but totally laugh out loud ridiculous funny. I can’t get enough of Denton, Paolo, Millie and V. Maybe it’s because I’ve been listening to the audiobooks but I’m pretty sure I’d be laughing even if I was just reading these books in print. The author happens to also be the narrator which is usually not a good thing but this guy is phenomenal! The delivery of the things he says is just perfect. I listened to this whole book in a day! That’s a rarity for me. I’m a devoted listener but usually I break it up. I just couldn’t though. Now what am I going to do knowing that there is nothing after this book. No more Denton! No more Pao!!! Pao needs his own spin off series! He’s such an awesome character. But what would he be without Denton. This can’t be the end. I need more. And Millie! That girl is a freakin rockstar! The things that come out of her mouth are just too much. This series just can’t be over. I’m so sad right now. I may never laugh again without the snark of Denton or the incorrect usage of words by Paolo or the surprising low key talents of Millie. I’m dying. I feel like my deathdate has come!...more

I even loved the characters. What killed me was the way it was written. The plot is a good one but the writing is just all over the place. Conversations were hard to follow as were POVs. I often had no idea who was supposed to be speaking. Characters would be switching from talking to mind messaging which is fine but mid convo it would also switch person so I would have no idea who was involved in what was being said. Also the editing on this book was horrendous. It’s just unfathomable to me how an author and editor can let a book be released into the world with so many obvious errors. Grammatical, spelling, whatever, you name it, this book had it. There were even times when the names of characters were switched up. Nowadays it’s not difficult to get someone to proofread a book. Sometimes I think it’s just pure laziness. All that aside. I loved the story. The whole concept was totally enchanting. The wide array of marine shapeshifters each falling into a different rung of the social hierarchy was genius. The descriptions of each type were perfect and the actual way they shift is quite unique. However there are quite a lot of them and keeping them all straight can be tough. As is the same with the amount of specific characters all of whom had such depth to them and thorough back stories. The plot to capture an escaped slave by current slaves immediately piqued my interest as did the sense of morality among them. Regardless of my long rant about issues with the writing itself I truly enjoyed reading this book. It was fast paced and full of intrigue and excitement. I’ve been itching to start the second in the series since I finished the first. It’s even one of the few books of which I’ve read the teaser for the next one....more
