It's been awhile since I read a Suzanne Wright novel and I guess I was in the mood for some vintage wolf genre reading. I liked the concept and idea of the series, but maybe my taste has changed over the years?
I couldn't get into the world building and there were too many characters to be honest and I get that, there needs to be characters for content. I know you can read any series and any book at any time, but I felt like I was jumping into a series that was already written (even though this is book 1).
Overall, the storyline was fine, the FL was a little headstrong and not really anyone I would vibe with and the ML was the typical ML you would read in a PNR setting.
Maybe I'll go back to the series when I'm in this kind of mood. ...more

Finally, it’s a book without STEM and so I was pretty excited, because I happen to be a super fan of paranormal reads. I got the audio book and it started out fairly typical Ali Hazelwood fashion, she always likes to start with a flash forward. THEN rewind and we get the buildup. This part didn’t annoy me too bad, but I rather read it in order.
Anyhow, I really liked Misery (at least for the first 90% of the read, more on that later). Misery has many layers to her and I really enjoyed the narrator. The narrator acted well and I totally believed the narrator enhanced my listening experience. No one likes Misery and she knows it.
She’s a sold off Vampire bride to the were pack and even though it’s totally obvious what the misunderstanding is, I wouldn’t call it the focal point of the read. The ML, Lowe was overall a good ML in my opinion. He was a little rude, but the banter between him and Misery was enjoyable.
I loved the little girl Anna and I wished we had more of that. But also, like typical Ali Hazelwood fashion, there’s always someone pushing someone away right? Anyhow, I liked the first 90% of the read, but I felt like the ending was wrapped up a little too easily.
Everyone is talking about the smut of the book and honestly, TOTALLY hilarious and why not? I think it improved the book in my opinion. ...more
It’s been two years since I’ve read a book from The Four Horsemen series. This series isn’t to everyone’s taste, I see the mixed reviews, bu4.5 Stars
It’s been two years since I’ve read a book from The Four Horsemen series. This series isn’t to everyone’s taste, I see the mixed reviews, but lucky for me, I really like the books. I just had surgery and remember I purchasing the audio book for Famine last year. I needed to rest and so I decided to do nothing, but lay in bed and listen to Famine.
I’m really glad I listened to Famine instead of reading the book because I didn’t realized how descriptive the book is. There are pages and pages of descriptive writing which is really great when you are listening because you try to imagine what the author is telling you, but while you are reading, I think it can get wordy.
I found Famine very different from the previous two books. I really loved Pestilence and War especially when it came to the female leads. Ana is the kind of female lead I don’t like typically. She is a prostitute with a potty mouth. I like that she is strong and independent, but I’m not too keen on her forwardness. Luckily as I listened to her, the narrator really did a good job in portraying a likeable character and slowly Ana grew on me.
Famine is your typical ML. He’s a little harsher than Pestilence and War in my opinion. If you are looking for a fast pace spicy read, you will not get it like the two other books. This one is a slow burn and that’s okay. It would be a touch frustrating here and there, but I wasn’t looking to listen to smut so it didn’t bother me too much.
I like the dynamics between Famine and Ana. I found the bickering kind of funny and it created a good organic chemistry between the two. I thought the book was very long, but it gave you enough meat to really fall for the characters. I like how Famine hated humanity and his reason to it. I like that it wasn’t about a book of starving people, but the fact he had the ability to control plants (living things). That was very unique.
Overall, the book was good. I liked the characters and I liked the storyline, but I do like the other two previous books more.
OH and I LOVE the new covers, it has a vintage 90’s feel that is trending lately.

I didn’t like Rage and Ruin as much as I liked Storm and Fury, and maybe it’s because I felt a lot more tension between Trinity and Zane.
The relationship between Trinity and Zane is beyond frustrating and some reviewers will gobble this up, but for me, it left me very winded after reading.
I enjoyed the overall plot and side quest a lot more. I honestly was so fed up with the back and forth fighting between Trinity and Zane, I was okay with them not ever mentioning their feelings for each other.
I also didn’t like the fact, you wouldn’t know what would happen. Sometimes I wanted to scream at the author and ask, what will happen if Trinity and Zane if they get together? This should not have been the plot of the book (well, side plot).
I enjoyed learning new things about the Harbinger and like I said, I liked the quests Trinity would do, especially when she goes with Roth, they are totally hilarious. I didn’t like the over tension / pace of the book though.
I found the pacing to be really slow, but also with high tension. Throughout the read you are questioning who is the Harbinger and what will happen to Trinity and Zane if they got together. I didn’t like that kind of tension. I wished the author focused more on just taking me on the journey, than her continuing to remind me something bad is coming.
Overall, I will read the last book in the series because this one has a pretty interesting cliffy. I will not jump to it right away because I need to be sucked into a different world for a little bit. ...more

I’m pretty picky in my reading preferences and I have changed in what I found is enjoyable when I read. I haven’t read a Jennifer L Armentrout read in a LONG time and I’m so glad I picked up Storm and Fury.
I didn’t know what the series was going to be about. I saw the book at my local Barnes and Nobles and it had pretty good reviews on Goodreads, so I figured I couldn’t go wrong with it. Within the first chapter I realized this book would be good to read a chapter here and there. I didn’t really binge read the book until I got to the 50% mark since it’s fairly slow, but I kind of liked that.
I really liked the world building and it wasn’t too hard to following, since world building is usually something I struggle with when I dive into a new paranormal series.
I wouldn’t call this book super romantic but I liked the slow buildup between the main characters. I didn’t know where the story was going, but it lead me to an adventure.
I found the main lead, Trinity fairly okay. The whole blind thing got to me, at times she was really good, like jumping between buildings, but then she would fall when she tripped on branches. I think the author did their best to make it consistent, but I kind of just wanted her to be fully blind or not.
Her existence is completely a mystery and that was fun trying to figure out. I didn’t really understand her relationship with Misha, but that was a storyline. Her relationship between her and Zayne was a little forced at first, but it finally came organically. Overall, not a perfect story, but pretty good since I have been in a reading slump. ...more

I picked up It's a Wonderful Midlife Crisis because the audio was included in my subscription. The ratings for this novel was good and I'm turning 40, so this should be my jam.
I really love the narrator of this book and a good portion of my positive experience with the audio is because of the narrator's voice and acting ability. I will 100% look for Jessica Almasy narrations.
The first half of the read was fine. I loved that the FL was surrounding by ghost and she was so comical about it. I liked how she was trying to fix the ghost and superglue them together.
I was in the mood for a romance read since I haven't read a good romance book in awhile. No, I'm not talking about smut, just something where the main leads have good chemistry and it leading to something more. I don't really see the romance aspects of this book, sure she meets a hot guy (the grim riper) but I didn't feel like their relationship had any substance?
The whole story about the FL's former husband just seemed like a cop-out excuse and I was kind of over it when I heard that part.
Overall, I loved the narration of the book and the ghost aspects, but I wasn't too keen on the storytelling nor the romance. I will not be finishing out the series. ...more

Death of Darkness was an okay read. I think I would have enjoyed it more had I follow the series and read the books in order. I did feel like I was jumping into the middle of a plot and the last few books have been intense.
What can I say, It was free from the library and it passed the time.
This one is Seth’s story and I didn’t care too much for the romance between him and Leah. I didn’t see it and I didn’t get the chemistry. She’s a cool chick and he’s a cool dude, but two great characters doesn’t make a great couple.
Kirsten Potter is an awesome narrator and 100% made the book. This could have been a BORING book, but her tone and character transitions were excellent.
I wouldn’t rule the series out entirely, but just focus on the first book and then move in order from there. ...more

I wanted to start a new paranormal series and I saw this author trending on Amazon for some time now so why not. There are some hits and misses to this book.
First all, I think the book is a touch boring. I feel like there really wasn’t a plot or anything to grab me to anything really.
You don’t have to read the prequel to the series, it didn’t add any value to the book and I kind of regret reading it.
The book so far is cute and is 100% a YA now… I can’t say for sure as I go down the series. I’m okay with the innocent storyline and I was okay with the Cass and Aidan’s relationship. It was slow, but it matched to the beat of the book.
Overall, it was just a blah read. I can’t really tell you anything that stuck out as something worth mentioning. I will continue with the series, but I will take a book or two break. It took me about a week to read this one and that is 6 days too many for me to finish a book. ...more
It took a little to get into this series, but by book 3, I’m starting to go with the flow. I still have issues with the female narrator’s voice4 Stars
It took a little to get into this series, but by book 3, I’m starting to go with the flow. I still have issues with the female narrator’s voice being too deep. The author describes her voice as husky, but to me she sounds really old, but she can act well, so it didn’t hinder my experience as it has in the past few books. I guess you can say I am getting use to it.
I like that the series kept to one couple and even though it has been some time since I have read the last book, the author does a good job in recapping the series so I wasn’t confused.
I do think there are a lot of characters in the book and I don’t really care about Jared and Sam’s squad, but that is what the book is about so I need to get with it.
Jared and Sam have that light, no fuss kind of relationship that I like to read. Jared is SUPER protective of Sam in this one and Sam wants to do her own thing because she is strong and a woman. I found it a touch annoying, but not too much.
Overall, I like having the book in the background as I work and this series has more steam than the typical pnr series you see trending on amazon so yay for that. ...more

I really like to listen to this series. Its just easy and effortless on audio and it doesn’t hurt that the narrator has a super pleasant voice.
Charles is dealing with his enforcer issues. When he kills, the victim’s ghost lingers and it’s starting to get to him. I’m not sure if this is enough of a storyline for me because personally it’s a little weak however the author wrote it in a way that it didn’t take away from the story.
Anna is always on Charles side and they work together on their issues like every book. Their relationship is very tame and kind of boring, but it’s never frustrating so I rather have that.
The fey have a role in this book and I didn’t hate it, although that isn’t really my jam. Overall, it’s just a good series to have in the background and seeing the process of Anna and Charles relationship process with each book is nice to read. ...more

This goes to show, moods and tastes can change over time. I originally gave this book two stars, but I probably wanted a really steamy read, so I restarted the series in audio format because it’s easiest for me while I work.
The audio version is the BEST way to go for this series. I love the narrator and he kind of just sucks you into the series. It’s not the best shifter book I’ve read, but it’s nice to have in the background while I work.
The book isn’t really a romance, there’s no steam or tension but there’s a lot of politics. I originally found the politics annoying and boring, but it wasn’t so bad the second time around. The relationship because Charles and Anna is filled with the two of them trying to navigate the pack life and how to work together.
Overall, it was an okay read and better the second time around. ...more

I decided to reread this book for fun because well, I had the audio and so why not. I REALLY like the narrator in this book (he is male) and he really made the book for me. I think I enjoyed Cry Wolf a lot better via audio.
You really need to read the prequel before you start Cry Wolf or you won't understand anything, I am not sure why the author did that.
The series isn't for everyone. It's a little wordy, lengthy and descriptive and the romance is a slow burn on the back-burner, but it's okay to have it in the background as noise. ...more

I was really nervous starting back into this series. I really liked the first book, but it was so heavy I had to take a break. It’s been some time since I last read the book and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to follow along. Although there isn’t much recap, the pace is so fitting for the series that it wasn’t a problem at all in me picking up the story where I last left off.
Also the book is VERY fitting to what is happening with the pandemic now. Is it a little morbid, a little, but serious times calls for serious books every so often?
Fallon must go with her teacher to train for two years. Those two years fly by and I REALLY enjoyed her training with her teacher. It’s an adorable innocence storyline that is really great to leave the audio on in the background while you work.
This middle book lacks the romance aspect you get a little glimpse of in the first book, BUT there are so many POV’s, you really are just following the train of though of the author.
I did like how the author glossed over the gory bits. It’s hard times and people do some awful things.
Overall, it’s about Fallon and her training, her coming to be older and more of an adult than child. Then you have the POV of the other people that were featured in the first book.
I am excited where this book left off and I will probably read a few light books before I finish this series, but I really recommend this book to everyone. It’s as I said, very fitting to what is happening now. ...more

I went with older books and newer books but there’s something about jumping into a series and not being able to jive with it.
Even though the books are stand alone you get a lot of the secondary characters to get you into the series but I just find it all muddy.
The writing style is a little boring and I don’t get the feels I usually do on alpha male. The premise and concept of this book seemed good. She’s blind and 37, what could go wrong?

I’m not sure if the entire series is YA, but the first book is definitely YA, there’s nothing wrong with that, so if you are looking for a book for a tween, they can read this one. Other than the gore, it’s pretty tame.
Like what most reviews state, it’s a Hunger Games feel type of book with Vampires, so I was of course interested in the book.
When I started the book I realized this book is HIGHLY descriptive. I mean, my kindle told me it would take over 6 hours to read the book. That is a clear sign of what kind of writing style the author writes.
Honestly 30% of the book could have been edited out. There was WAY too much detail in some scenes and not enough character development in other scenes.
The author puts a lot of emphasis in the game itself, which is fine, but the game is played with 20 other girls. The hero isn’t really in the game, so you get a glimpse of interaction between the Heroine and Hero sprinkled here and there, which is okay, BUT it makes the chemistry or lack of chemistry between the Heroine and Hero non existent.
Selena and Varick’s friendship / “relationship” was mega forced and hard to believe. I was more interested in Selena’s relationship between her and the other girls to be honest.
Another thing about the book I didn’t like was the Debbie downer aspect. The villains seem to always have the upper hand it was very frustrating. Selena is pitted against 50 vampires and Varick can’t step out of line or he dies. I felt like where was the relief? It was too much tension for my taste.
With all that is said and done, I don’t think I will continue with the series. I’m not invested into the characters enough, the books are way too long and the writing is too descriptive. I wouldn’t be opposed to look at different series from the author, but not this one. ...more

I love Helen, she is adorable.
I love Arland’s love for Maud.
I think it was great to hear a story about two people who love each other, but trying to get over past issues. I totally get why Maud is hesitant in pursuing Arland, she has been through you know what. I love reading Arland pursing Maud because I always love the Hero chasing the Heroine.

I didn’t realize this would be the last book of the series and with that said, I felt like the pacing was a little off in the series. I felt like the author had real potential in taking the characters to the next level, but with the slow pace of the first two books and everything falling into place with the last book, it felt a little disappointing when I finished.
It was an okay read, I did read it at one go, but that doesn’t mean that it was entirely enjoyable.
I don’t like the “secret” storyline. It’s where one of the characters has a secret and you are just waiting for the ball to drop. I feel like this storyline is a cop-out and kind of typical. It didn’t help that throughout the book Basi kept on saying how much she needed to tell Kyros’ family about her betrayal. We GET IT. Stop thinking about it over and and over again.
I also didn’t agree with Basi’s choice in saving Tommy. I felt like the friendship between Basi and Tommy a little force. I understand Tommy is her best friend and she would do anything to save her, but to risk the ENTIRE Kyros family, that was a bit much.
I didn’t like Basi working by herself trying to save face. I felt like in the third book had this potential for her and Kyros to work together. There could have been some epic relationship building. The fact that many of Basi’s strategies failed, I didn’t appreciate the last strategy was still being executed by herself. She needed to learn a lesson in the end in my opinion.
I wanted to see Basi get pregnant and learn to mange Kyro’s family. I didn’t like that the entire series was about Basi and Kyro’s struggling relationship. A little too much angst for my taste and I understand that is not my cup of tea. A lot of people like that kind of storyline.
With that said, it was an interesting series to binge read, but I’m not sure I agree exactly with the author’s flow of writing. ...more

I’m up and down with Vampire Debt. Throughout the entire book you just wonder when Basi and Kyros are going to have sex or when the next blood exchange will happen.
This is a really slow-pace book. It’s for some and it’s not for others. When I read slow pace books the focus is more on the secondary story line and the romance is usually the back-burner. This book is all about the relationship. It’s exhausting and yet you can’t put the book down.
I will agree with some of the lower rated reviews, not much happens except for the last 20% of the book, but I still enjoyed the read. I did start to gloss over some of the detailed parts. I didn’t need to know the percentage of land ownership between each clan had. It was just added non-sense for me.
Vampire debt is about Basi and Kyros trying to work it out. She is frustrating and will not forgive him from knowing about who she was from the start. He’s still demanding and possessive and honestly Kyros is the saving grace of the book. I Love it when the hero chases after the Heroine.
I’m kind of sad the grandmother died without ever having a presence in the book, but that storyline does take a little more space and I didn’t mind that part. I will have to say, the parts where Kyros and Basi aren’t together is a little bit more in this book, so watch out for filler scenes.
I’m not sure if I will jump into the third book right away, only because that is the last book means I’m caught up and I’m not sure I can handle another book with little to no progress.

I was looking for a new pnr series to get into and I’m really glad I kept on going back to Blood Trial. The book is a little slow at first, there’s a lot of character building and it really worked for the book after reading everything.
The book is LONG so if you get the audio or you have a reading budget, you really get your money’s worth out of this one. I do believe some scenes could go faster, but it really made the relationship between Kyros and Basi organic.
This is a vampire book, even though you are reading 20% in and you are questioning if it is… but it is. So just hang in there.
Basi is the rich girl trying to find herself. We aren’t sure why she doesn’t want to be rich anymore, but she’s on her own and trying to make it.
I wasn’t keen on Basi at first. I found her personality a little force and a little too in your face for a character I was just recently introduced to. Once I got to know her a little more, I started to like her. You really just need to warm up to the book.
I really loved Kyros. He has the alpha-man personality I love reading in books and I think he really sold it for me for the book.
I liked the world building in this book. It’s about two clans fighting for the right to win. Everyone are cheese pieces and it was just different from other books.
