Esra Weaver is an exo-geologist who signed up for an intergalactic mining mission which has gone horribly wrong. What follows has shades of Tomb Raider taking on Jurassic Park, with a bit of E.T. homesickness, and a lot Star Trek diplomacy, except much much smarter!
I loved Esra so much! She fights off ginormous flying insects, murderous creepy crawling vines, and dodges bloodthirsty dino-reptiles that inhabit the planet. (If I was ever stranded, I want her V.L. Holt designed astrosuit!) But, as strong-willed and resilient as she is, Esra would be just another link in the food chain if she didn’t find an ally. That’s where Naraxthel comes in. Tall, muscular, agile, courageous and possessing some pretty impressive tech himself, Naraxthel is a cool drink of water to poor castaway Esra. He’s a hunter who has been sent to the planet on a deadly mission and has taken an interest in the little intruder. But first, they need to communicate. I was captivated by their process of finding common ground and figuring out basic alien linguistics. It was reminiscent of Tolkien; thoroughly intelligent.
Predator Planet represents incredible world building. From the description of the flora and fauna, to the technology and language and culture, everything is fascinatingly detailed. There is so much to love about it! Vicky Holt has an incredible imagination. Read this and totally lose yourself in another world.
Book 1 is all about Esra and Naraxthel, but he’s got four fellow hunters sentenced to the same “mission”. Can’t wait! 5 “sister sun”☀️+☀️ Stars!

Its prologue is edgy, shocking, and profoundly captivating, setting the stage for the introduction of a truly strong and unflaggingly determined heroine, Averhilda Fatima Haskie. . . .She prefers “Avery”.
No Light takes place ten years after the events of The Werelock Evolution Trilogy. Fans of the Reinoso werelocks get to revisit the insanely gorgeous and ultra-powerful family now led by Milena Caro-Reinoso. Explosive emotion rumbles between all the old characters like thunder after lightning. Some pack members haven’t moved past their personal losses from the disastrous Reinoso-Salvatella meeting.
Milena’s werelock powers have grown immensely in the past decade and fuels her steadfast goal to hunt down the abomination known as The Rogue, a new super-werewolf prophesied to bring on the doom of the world. Milena and the Reinoso clan are about to encounter some unforeseen complications in their noble quest, including: the age of the alleged Rogue, its fiercely protective mother, and the ironic connection that Fate has laughingly bestowed upon said mother and one hot and handsome, centuries-old werelock who happens to be the panty-melting Alcaeus REINOSO!
Avery is a survivor. She’s fought abuse, fought death, and she’ll fight anything that threatens the life and safety of her frightfully-gifted and oddly-tormented child. She is tireless in her fight to keep The Rogue hidden from her hunters. Falling in love with one of her daughter’s hunters was not part of her plan.
I loved everything about Avery and Alcaeus as a couple, from the irony and the sassy repartee, to the way they see the perfection in each other’s imperfections. Avery is as stubbornly independent as Alcaeus is determined to be protective. These two are so much fun!
Her: “Look, I get it. You grew up in ancient times. I appreciate that you want to be chivalrous and protect me from the world. But I didn’t grow up in the seventeenth century. And I can’t be that damsel for you. Never been wired that way.”
Him: “My mate was the cutest little badass there ever was.”
You don’t need to read the preceding three books to understand the dynamics between all the characters since all is eventually revealed through Avery’s very perturbed and astounded perspective. Her internal monologues are a riot!
This story has everything: its own rich magical history, surprising twists, scorching romance, wacky humour - all revealed with smart dialogue and witty commentary. It has plot depth, amazing originality, and great execution. It fed my literary cravings like a Michelin 3 Star ten-course tasting menu and I loved every second of it!
(An ARC was received, but my sincerity and regard for this story is based solely on its content.)

She was a fatally wounded Allied spy who needed a second chance to live and he was a Maxwell demon-vampire who needed his mate to stave off the family curse. Over the years she has donated blood to him when he needed it, but they kept feelings out of their “mating for convenience.”
Leah has used her independence to further her undercover pursuits, but Jasper’s patience has run out. He needs his mate safely sequestered at the Maxwell ranch while he hunts his mortal enemies. Can Leah drag Jasper’s outdated but sexy butt into the 21st century? Will Jasper’s nemesis hit our hero where he is most vulnerable? How has Leah and Jasper abstained from vampire monkey sex for eight decades?
The Dark Protectors remains my favourite of Rebecca’s fictional worlds. This latest novella captures the fun and romance that I have come to crave from her while still keeping things fresh. It makes me want more of her sexy demon-vampires, which is good because the Maxwells are a large family!...more
Anya and Sav have become my new favourite dark romance couple. Book 2 launches into the fray right where Book 1 left off. There is undeniable chemistrAnya and Sav have become my new favourite dark romance couple. Book 2 launches into the fray right where Book 1 left off. There is undeniable chemistry between Saverio De Luca, de facto mafia underboss, and Anya Brennan, his pregnant captive. Theirs is a fake relationship that began when she witnessed a murder and she became Sav’s alibi. “Boyfriend” becomes fiancé, and when he takes her to attend a mafia wedding, she faces first hand all the danger and prejudice that his world brings to hers.
Despite all the reasons why a good girl like Anya should definitely not fall for a very, very bad boy like Saverio, Anya can’t help herself. Imagine, if your body is already mostly over the edge of the tallest water slide. Girl, those arm floaties aren’t going to save you now! Anya fights falling in love with Sav, but has already slid down the chute and is gaining speed!
For his part, Sav’s actions speak louder than words. It’s not what he says to you, it’s how he treats you, right? Well, Sav treats Anya like a queen, while telling her that everything is all for show. That scorching kiss? A good show. The un-secret orgasms? For show. Over the top protectiveness? Gotta show everyone who you belong to. Looking after your health? For the baby, you know, for show. Every time Anya feels that something is real, Sav keeps reminding her it’s fake.
Oh, Charmaine! You have done it again. You twist my insides around a cork circling the whirlpool. I can hardly breath at times with the intensity of the heartache. The only thing that keeps me clinging on like a castaway on the last life raft is the fact that you have never let me down with an HEA before. Well, almost. We won’t talk about that one time …
I have crowned Charmaine Pauls my Queen of Tortured Romance years ago; my first tortured heroine being Valentina Haynes and the last being Sabella Edwards. Anya and Sav’s story lives up to this. The words on these pages once again demonstrate a top-tier mastery of emotional language and imagery. Reading this story intensifies my appreciation for life because it amplifies feelings and conscience and empathy. Oh my god! Charmaine Pauls is to reading what MSG is to food!!! Words that add flavour to life....more

Now, he has forced her to lie for him, making her an accessory to his crime. Add that to her already insurmountable list of unsolvable problems with her home and family circumstances!
Saverio is a cold-blooded killer, the right hand to one of New York’s most powerful mafia bosses, a precarious top dog position that has him always watching his back. Does he have time to mess with the pretty red head whom his boss wants silenced? Not even a little bit. But not only does Sav keep Anya alive, he sets about solving her issues like a boy scout on a scavenger hunt!
This time around I kept my hands off my tissue box (but I’m keeping it close by just in case). Charmaine has given us a “he falls first”, ultra-protective, super-attentive anti-hero who only wants to take things to the hilt if his lady wants it so. Soon, Anya is living with Sav, his captive in all but chains. But familiarity breeds feelings. Charmaine is so talented with providing her characters with purpose and depth.
While Sav and Anya are surrounded by enough darkness to stifle the soul, between them there is light, a spark that keeps them warm like a determined little ember. Before Anya can get comfortable in the new domesticity she shares with Saverio, things may change yet again to shatter her fragile world.
I really enjoyed the first act of this three part story and can hardly wait to read the next!...more

The small Washington town of Genesis Valley has had more than its fair share of serial murders this past winter; enough to see FBI Special Agent In Charge Laurel Snow headquarter the Pacific Northwest Violent Crime Unit out of her hometown. Maybe Laurel and her boyfriend, Fish and Wildlife Captain Huck Rivers, can finally catch a break and focus on their new pregnancy?
Alas, it is not to be! New homicides are happening, each with a shadow of their past cases or even to our intrepid duo themselves. Who is messing with Laurel and Huck? There are plenty of suspects in play: Jason Abbott, who is yet to be tried as the Witch Creek Killer; Pastor Zeke Caine, who Laurel is certain is guilty of something, but has yet to prove it; and, Abigail Caine, Laurel’s brilliant narcissist half sister.
Laurel and Huck are a formidable investigative alliance. The PNWVC Unit is nevertheless greatly understaffed and growing smaller by the minute. It’s almost as if circumstances have conspired to weaken the team! Although Laurel can hold her own, Huck is the alpha protective type, and is hovering even closer now that he is about to become a father. I adore Laurel and Huck. They are such a great couple. Isolated but compatible, reserved but intuitive, deserving of one another’s loyal nature, and sizzling between the sheets. They make cops look so sexy!
For her part, Abigail’s unflinching but unrequited attempts to become close to Laurel would be tragic if not for her creepy, scary, over-the-top arrogance and lack of boundaries. There’s a dangerous dynamic between Laurel and Abigail … it’s so competitive and high stakes. Although Laurel and Huck’s relationship anchors the series, Abigail by herself is worth dipping one’s toes into the shark pool. The author’s development of this villain has reached delightfully diabolical heights and I lived for her each next appearance. With these three characters, Rebecca Zanetti has thriller, suspense, romance, and dark comedy well-covered. Bravo, Rebecca! This series is getting better and better!

Her family owns Aquarius Social, one of the four most powerful social media companies in the country. Alana spends her time shopping, partying, and encouraging her followers to “explode-star” and share her video emotes for Aquarius. She’s also grieving her older brother’s death, trying to dodge an arranged marriage that her father hopes will save the company, and trying (but failing) to convince herself that she is unaffected by being the object of Thorn Beathach’s obsession.
Thorn Beathach is the owner of Malice Media, the most powerful of the four social media companies that use crystal to secretly funnel human energy into magic. Each of the four exclusive families utilize this monopolized magic to benefit themselves in wealth and longevity. To describe Thorn? Reclusive, mysterious, uncompromising, dominating, vicious, murderous, and psychopathic are some words that come to mind.
Being kidnapped by Thorn should be so wrong for Alana, but she shockingly feels safer with him than anyone has a right to feel. Rebecca Zanetti should be known as “The Chemist” because she writes instant chemistry so well. Alana’s wit and altruism melts Thorn’s frigid heart. How appropriate, since he has also fallen under a curse that is slowly freezing him bit by bit until it kills him. I savoured every interaction between our beauty and her beast, from banter to kinky sex and every panty-wetting spank in between.
I truly love this Beauty and the Beast retelling. For some reason I picture Robert Pattinson’s The Batman as Thorn Beathach, except more bulked up. I think Alana would describe him as hot, hot, and hot, the freezing curse notwithstanding.
I have a harder time with the “human energy channeled through crystals” concept, but as Alana’s father himself states: “We spend hours upon hours disseminating misinformation about crystal energy and its restorative power. It has taken the four families centuries to convince the public that magic does not exist.” So, I guess my skepticism is proof that their diversion tactics have been working!
Treat this as a fairy tale (a dark and dirty fairy tale), not rocket science, and you should be fine!
I have read both the Beta and ARC versions of this book and enjoyed it even better with repeat reading.

If you consider yourself an organized reader, be sure to start with Book 1, Disorderly Conduct, and watch the full story arc unfold with Anna and the citizens of Timber City, Idaho.
But can each book stand alone? Absolutely! In my opinion, the mystery and comedic elements in each book can be enjoyed out of sequence à la Terentino. I drop everything to read Anna Albertini!
Habeas Corpus is Book 6 of the Anna Albertini Files so please continue reading only if you are ready for this review.
You have been warned!
Anna and her boyfriend Aiden are finally figuring out life as a couple. Having moved his team to Timber City, Aiden is now based out of the same town as Anna’s fledgling law practice. Aiden asked Anna to move in with him after her cabin exploded in the previous book, so waking up together is becoming a cozy new norm.
But is Anna’s danger magnet status contagious? Because local prosecutor Nick Basanelli gets shot by Cupid while looking at rings with Anna at Duke’s jewelry store. Thereafter, any time he tries to give his diamond to Anna’s sister Tessa, unforeseen obstacles arise. Stuff keeps coming at Nick. He’s not a bad guy, is he? Say it ain’t so, for my heart is set on him being the one for Tessa.
With murders, robberies, and missing weapons (yes, that too) to investigate, Anna would have to sit on her hands to keep out of trouble. Will she succeed? Knowing Rebecca Zanetti’s zany sense of humour, not a chance. Poor Aiden will just have to deal with it.
This is at least my sixtieth RAZ book so one might think I’ll have her figured out. Thank goodness no. Rebecca managed to surprise me again with this latest mystery. Another reason she is one of my favourite people. She’s funny, too. It bears repeating. Habeas Corpus is authentic to the franchise.

Erik Volk engages with Yago Yassi, Alpha of the Copper Pack, ostensibly to consider Yago's offer to transfer Copper Pack into Erik's control. But Erik is wired for both leadership and loyalty, and his loyalty lies with his brother, Seth Volk, and the Silver Pack. Will Erik lead the Coppers, or destroy them?
Luna McElhanney, is the only other member of Copper Pack who has original Alpha blood in her veins, so her mating with Erik would seal the deal in the tradition sense. But Luna isn't traditional. She wants to pursue her career as a scientist, researcher, and healer. Plus, the Copper Pack is keeping a library full of secrets from their prospective new Alpha. Luna's awkward adorableness and Erik's protective jellyroll personality combine to create delightful romantic alchemy. Every scene that Luna and Erik share together has either warmth for the heart or heat between the legs.
The mystery of who is harming the Copper Pack and forcing them to reach out in desperation, may seem simple or outrageous. The fun part will be letting you see for yourself. Rebecca Zanetti loves to twist things around.

I love, love, LOVED the romantic tension between Alina and Alexei. Her fear of the future mixed with the power of her lust. His drive to possess, intertwined with his drive to protect. Her need for his comfort, battling with her resentment of his control. His blinding desire salted with his plea for her to give them a chance. Oh, this couple!
Dark romance often highlights the ethical dilemma of whether the ends justifies the means. If our couple declares their mutual love and need in the end, it they are willing to sacrifice everything for one another, if they end up happily ever after, will that make what came before “okay?” I am completely invested in what comes next for Alina and Alexei. Per tradition, the cliffhanger for Beautiful Chains (Book 2) rivals Solo in carbonite!

Adrian Westfield is a lonely, reclusive genius who hopes a marriage of convenience will bolster his chances of retaining custody of his baby daughter. While out for a walk, Adrian and his massive fluffy dog, Leo, run into Jane Miller on her way to the job interview of her dreams. Adrian and Leo land the eccentric librarian in the mud, closing one door for her but opening another.
There’s what people do, which is often full of humour, and then there’s what people (and dogs) think, which in the case of Misha Bell is invariably hilarious! I loved Jane’s “Miss Miller” Victorian-styled quips and Leo’s sarcasm. Jane embodies a balance of nerdiness and vulnerability that makes me adore her. Adrian is surprisingly humble for a such a super smart billionaire. Keep your eyes peeled for some past character name dropping. This story is a must read for anyone who needs lots of irrepressible, belly chortling laughs!

Truth? After reading Hate Like Honey, I was so injured that I kinda, sorta told Charmaine that I hated her. "How are you going to mend things between Bella and Angelo?" I had asked. Well, as you will see, Bella and Angelo are now married and things have spiralled out of control and are ten times worse. Angelo, Angelo, Angelo. *shakes head* So misguided, mistrustful, and mishandled. I have to keep telling myself that he is only twenty-three and doesn't know better, but then I see Sabella and she's everything he isn't and more than he deserves. Communication is the key to a good marriage, kids. Honestly.
I will say one word now. One word to remind you of your cruelty. Pirate.
Charmaine, you are my Dark Romance Queen. No one has me following her blindly into the pitch black the way you do. No one. You punched me in the gut. But I enjoyed it.

An ex-military lawyer determined to clear her name and win her heart. Self-doubts, confounding clues, and second chances. This sounds like the blurb for an Anna Albertini book from earlier this year, but Deep Ops Book 6 is crisp, new, independent and tightly written.
Millie Frost is the Deep Ops gadget girl. She often helps Angus Force and his team solve problems, but she doesn't see herself as a key player. Hence, the self doubts. When she visits her hometown and wakes up in a pool of blood that belongs to her ex-boyfriend, she tries to figure things out without "bothering" the rest of the team.
Scott Terentson provides legal services to Deep Ops and even took a bullet for the team not long ago. His latest case has inadvertently landed Millie in some trouble with Homeland Security, but guilt isn't the only reason he wants to help her find the real murderer. He likes her. A lot. But he sees himself as too damaged to be with someone as sweet as Millie. Like I said, self doubts.
Frostbitten is so well conceived that I would consider it one of the best, if not The Best, that Rebecca Zanetti has written for this series. I felt hooked from the start, was pulled in by Millie's adorableness, admired all the tenacity, and was never bored for even a minute. The story and the delivery just flowed so smoothly. Yes, Millie and Scott try to take on too much on their own. I loved it when Angus gives them "heck" for it! This has the feel of a series that has matured and is comfortable between its covers. The well-developed characters are just one of the reasons I love Frostbitten. Brilliant!...more
