This was a wonderful conclusion to the trilogy. There was so much going on in terms of drama, action, and relationships that I couldn't look away. It was almost as if I was continuously looking at a car crash and it just kept getting crazier.
Now is this book good? I would say so but it's definitely not for the intellectuals. But is it entertaining? HELL FUCKING YES. I couldn't get enough of it.
Neil's relationship with the team has grown so much since the start of the book and I feel like a proud mother seeing her kids finally getting along... It was so heartwarming to read about and I was so happy for him, especially when him and Andrew finally got past their trauma and could reconsider their relationship into being something more than "nothing." Their enemies to lovers relationship was so good because of the slow burn and I loved how slow Nora made it because of how traumatized the two were. They became friends and learned how to trust each other and knew not to push each other. The way CONSENT was expressed through their relationship was probably the best thing I've ever read. I could cry thinking about it because i loved it so much.
And I know that this is a bit off topic but I wanted to talk about Neil's mother in at least one of my reviews... I honestly don't know how to feel about her. I felt like she could've done a better job at raising Neil and used her connections with the mafia family in the UK. But considering she was trying so hard to keep Neil away from it I can see why she never used it. She could've been a better mom but at the end of the day she was a scared, paranoid, and cornered woman so I feel empathy towards her. I lowkey wish we got more flashbacks so I could try and understand her character more but.... oh well...
Overall this series was one of the best non-fantasy series I've ever read and I don't think I'll ever see anything like this again. I'll be keeping this series close to my heart....more

This was better than the first one as it had a lot more plot and drama going on. I also loved how the author went more in depth into the characters backgrounds of the team as I felt like in the first book the main focus was Kevin, Andrew, and Neil... It was still the same case in this book but I was happy to learn more about Renee, Alison, Nicky, and Matt. ------------------- Honestly idk what else I can really add to this review. There was so much going on in this book and I could not put it down. It was like an addiction. This book wasn't perfect by any means as there were times where the content felt repetitive or redundant but Neil's ambition for the game and him learning how to make friends and actually consider them family was so fun to read.
Not to mention the way how every member dealt with trauma. It felt so raw at times and there were points in where I could connect with the characters feelings in depression and anger. Drugs, not so much as I didn't care for that but what I really loved was how much the team fought for each other. They were a group of discarded kids but they looked out for one another in their own fucked up way.
(view spoiler)[I was also super happy when Andrew was finally coming off his drugs. I don't know why doctors rely on it so much instead of trying other methods because there's absolutely no reason why a growing teen needs to be hooked up on so much prescribed medication to deal with his "episodes" when those were clearly a cry for help. Andrew's backstory was so heartbreaking and made his attitude understandable. The people who were supposed to protect him hurt him instead and soon nobody cared about him so his only solution was to stop caring.... His budding relationship with Neil and rekindling brotherhood with Nicky and Aaron give me high hopes that group will get a happy ending... maybe not 100% happy but definitely an ending that's better than where they were before. If Haikyuu was an actual book and had fucked up adults it would be this book. I saw this book floating around booktok and decided to give it a go as the audiobook came up on Libby. I'm glad I gave it a go as this book was more entertaining than I gave it credit for. The cover made it seem like this was going to be a boring sports book but no. It was a book that had found family, mafia drama, secrets, drugs, and mental illness. It also has LGBTQ elements but there wasn't really any romance in the first book as the main character, Neil was spending the entire book trying to trust his teammates (FOR A GOOD REASON.)
Neil was probably the mot interesting part of the book as his background is very dark and mysterious. Being the only son of a mafia lord and on the run meant he was always so secretive. Seeing how he delt with everyday life was highkey sad as he has fear ingrained in him and his ability to connect with people beaten out of him. In future books I wonder how the author will deal with his background as it seems like that's going to be the main conflict of the story. NOT TO MENTION HIS TEAMMATE ALSO HAS TIES TO THE YAKUZA LMAOOOO bro cant catch a break ONG.
Andrew was another interesting character. Dude is on some hardcore perscsribed drugs and even with those drugs he seems like a very destructive person. I don't know what to make of him as I don't see how he doesn't care to play Exy but then is protective over the team captain... I'm sure the author will do into depth about the relationship later but whatever.
As for the romance.... there's practically 0... Nil.... ZILCH.... nada.... Idk how I was able to read a book with 0 romance but I did with the promise of it's coming in future books.... Haikyuu trained me for this lololol... As for my predictions... I have none as I'm really not sure what Neil's sexuality is... He seemed straight at first (view spoiler)[ but considering his mom BEAT the feelings out of him.... I'm really not too sure... he also didn't react to Nicky's kiss so he could be asexual or... pan? I assume he'll end up with Andrew or Kevin as that's who the author is focusing on but we don't really get to see what Neil is thinking when it comes to his sexuality... (hide spoiler)]
Overall I enjoyed it and it had a lot of drama to keep me engaged so I may even start the second book soon....more

I was expecting it to be a bit darker since I've heard it was a dark romance but I'm not mad about it... Both characters were amazing and I really liked how Sloane and Rowan interacted with each other. The banter was something I never thought I needed till reading it and the audiobook was absolute topppp tierrrrr audiobook. This is a book where I would definitely recommend the audiobook over the physical one.
Going back to the characters, I like how their trauma didn't defy them. we see Sloane suffer from it a bit in the beginning as she seems to be overly dependent on her friend Lark, but I loved how much she grew during her friendship and eventual romance with Rowan. As for Rowan, it seems like he was already pretty well developed from the beginning, but there was once lapse on where he got super violent.... I kinda wish we got more of that throughout the story as I know overcoming abuse and trying to control emotions like anger is a challenge. But I loved him anyway, and I assume why he was more stable was because unlike Sloane, Rowan had the support of his brothers... also, he was like Dexter by putting those negative emotions into killing people ig lol.
I really enjoyed this book and I'm glad my friend recommended it to me.. I can't wait to start the sequel!!
Edit: After really sitting on it, imma lower my rating to 4.5 because idk what it is, but there was something that really nagged me when it came to this book... it was a bit draggy and times, and the more I sit on it, the more I let it fester so..... now...
