Overall rating for first 3 vols: 4.25
I remember when I first heard of Red River. It was the series everyone wanted in their collections but was hard to find and I can finally see what all the fuss was about. This is pretty much like a perfect romantasy series in manga format and is probably one of the OG isekai/time travel mangas. Yuri gets transported to the Hittite Empire in 14th century BC (modern-day Turkey) and has to adapt to new customs, religions, environments, and equipment. The world building that went into this manga was impressive and I'm super excited to see Yuri become this embodiment of a warrior goddess! Idk if we'll see too many deaths as this is a shoujo but I hope there is as I like it when authors put a bit of reality into their stories and ik almost anything could get you killed in 14th century BC....more

It was a nice addition to the video game and seems promising. I'm not sure how many POVs this series will be following but there's two so far. The first reminded me of Kara's POV so it was nothing new but the second POV was for a doctor android which is new. I assume he'll learn about empathy and sadness through his patients so I'm excited to see it. I wonder how detailed the series will get into how androids feel emotionally as I felt like that aspect was lacking in the game. Hopefully we'll see it through both MCs and other POVs as I wonder if the manga will follow the video game in starting a revolution for the "defected" androids....more

This is your run of the mill shoujo that features a forbidden romance between stepsiblings so I wasn't expecting much but this manga surprised me in the best way. I loved how much I could connect with the FML as she was a loner who hates conflict. I'm the same way so to see her branch out and start to empathize with her new step bro was a sign for good character growth in my opinion. And the ML, I'm not sure what happed to him in the past but I love how his character is drastically changing from being a troublemaker to being... well... less of a troublemaker. But he's a troublemaker who's learning to rely on his family thanks to the caring environment they provided for him. In the future vols. I'd love to see both characters interact more with the school setting as they start to branch out and understand the differences between sibling, friend, and romantic relationships....more

Cute intro to the story. The "evil sister" plot is cliche in this transmigration genre but I don't mind it to much and actually enjoyed the FML. Idk who the love interest is but my guess is leading heavily towards the 2nd prince... But ig we'll see.... UHHHHH... I don't have much to say on this book as its the same wash and repeat plotline but it was cute and kept me engaged enough to want to continue the series.... definitely for readers looking for a cutesy shoujo story....more

HI understand the MMC as being LGBTQ in society is hard and super confusing. However, I don't like his character at all and I think it's intentional. He's a gay teenager living in Japan which has more homophobia than the U.S. and is struggling to come to terms with how his sexuality will determine the outcome of how society and his relationships will treat him. In no way do I excuse his actions but I can see why he's reluctant on coming out.
I do feel disgusted by the added grooming elements... like why was that added? What purpose does it hold? To make us feel more pity for the MMC? Why? If anything it makes me dislike the author and the character even more. However, if its supposed to symbolize real life... I suppose I get it but not really though because why is a old man going after a high schooler? A pedo is in no way relatable, gay or not. it's just gross.
Then there's also the added element of the MMCs girlfriend (idrc to remember any character names because I didn't like the manga) as there's the added issue of women oversexualizing gay men and projecting fantasies onto them. I appreciate how to author comes across it because reading gay romances isn't a bad thing at all but when people are projecting those stereotypes onto real people, it demonizes them and creates a whole new issue within the LGBTQ community. I hope to see more of that in future volumes, if I even decide to pick those up but if I see it up on edelweiss.... than maybe.
Ughhhh, this was sooooo good! Idk if this would be classified as a romantasy or a fantasy romance, but it gives off romantasy vibes.

I've never read about Norse mythology, but now it's about to become my biggest obsession. Ughh everything was so good, and I think Jensen did a fantastic job foreshadowing Freya's backstory/origins!
And Freya's character? Girlboss! Well... kinda... in the beginning, she has her fate controlled by men, which essentially becomes the entire plot. Her possession of the goddess's blood is what starts a life changing prophecy, and all that... so when it starts off you can really see how the people in her life have forced her down and when she finally gets the chance to become a warrior it's due to the fact that another man wants her to fight his wars for him. In a way, this other prison gives her a taste of freedom, which leads her to finally being cognizant of her choices and how to become a leader, which I loved. Her character development and finally realizing what it means to love someone (not family love I mean love, love) was a great edition to the story.
Her connection to the goddess was also pretty intresting as it seems like being a vessel seems to be more of a curse to Freya than a blessing but I'm hoping as she learns more about the goddess and her powers that it can be used to her advantage.
Moving onto the fantasy elements, it was pretty much heavily based on Norse mythology so no talks of fae, zombies, or random magic which I loved. Jensen gave us a mythology magic system which gives off very much "i am a God and will do what I please whether it be kind or not." And you get this from the very beginning of the story as God's and goddesses are not your friends and use the characters to satisfy their own whims or for a vessel.
However, some parts were a bit predictable, but that's only because it seemed too good to be true, and it was lol. But that's a spoiler, so I won't get into that.
Also, I didn't like how Freya still seems to be playing into the whims of men... it seems like even towards the end of the book, she's still being controlled by their terms, but im sure the author will have her break away from that in the second book.
Now, onto other characters.... they were all bitches and I hate them. (They were great. I just hate their personalities, and they suck as people because Freya deserves better.)...more

This was the second Ali Hazelwood book I've read, and this was SO much better than The Love Hypothesis!
Maybe it's because I'm a fantasy girlie more than a contemporary romance one so this was a lot more engaging imo.
I also found the romance to be a lot better than the other book I read. Since this was an arranged marriage troupe and Fated mate situation I was expecting the romance to be instant but I'm glad that wasn't the case.
Both characters started out feeling indifferent towards one another and grew a friendship before falling in love and I love how the MC cared more about Misery's consent then about the "Fated mate pull." It was refreshing seeing him care that Miserys feelings were her own instead of obligation.
However, there were some things in this book that I found to be outrageous.
1. Misery's name.... like wtf is that name... who would be ok with being called that?
2. The supernatural blood. Now idk what kinda outlanish, twilight-thing Hazelwood was going for but never have I ever heard of colored blood... every time I read about it I was rolling my eyes because of how ridiculous it sounded. IT DOESNT EVEN ADD ANY SUPERNATURAL ELEMENTS SO LIKE... WHY?!?!
3. The ending. That beech was DRAGGING. Like why was it so long. I was gonna rate the book even lower simply because of that ending but I was having a good time up until the complete of the climax. Because listen, the ending added nothing and I could've done with out the endless smut ...more

I loved the little added element of the fairies and I wonder if in the future books it'll explain how the FMC can see the fairies since she wasn't supposed to be born with magic.
The romance isn't really there yet since it's the beginning of the series but I get the vibes that the ML is going to be a tsundere. Which is difficult because I REALLY hate that personality type in manga....more
