A lot of things were left unexplained, and by the time I reached the last page, I was still confused. What did Elodie do? Did Jack manage to resolve his issues? Who ended up with the diamond? I was also hoping for a hint of happiness in what turned out to be a rather sad story....more

It felt like there was just too much stuff in there that didn't really need to be, and the writing was kinda heavy-going in every scene. But hey, despite all that, I'm still pumped to see where the series goes from here. It had all the stuff I love: adventure, those characters who are grumpy but also kinda sweet, a magical world, a hero who's a bit shady, some slow-burn romance, and loads of suspense. And the best part? It's all about the journey, you know? Like, the classic trope of a group going on a quest. That's the stuff I'm all about! I absolutely live for this type of fun thing!...more

What stood out to me was how the apartment itself becomes a character, filled with secrets and stories waiting to be uncovered. It's clear that Lucy Foley put solid thought into creating a complex mystery that unfolds in a satisfying way.
My only hesitation in giving it a full five stars is that at times, the plot felt a bit too contrived, and certain character actions seemed a tad convenient. However, these are minor issues that didn't significantly impact my overall enjoyment of the novel....more

"Master of Crows" by Grace Draven is a fantasy novel that delves into a world of magic, power struggles, and forbidden love. While the story presents several captivating elements, certain aspects left me with conflicting emotions.
The male lead, Silhara, is a character shrouded in complexity and darkness, wielding considerable magical power. His troubled history undoubtedly adds layers to the narrative. However, I found myself struggling to connect with his actions and attitude, especially in his interactions with the female main character (FMC). That didn't sit well with me, consistently grating on my nerves. I couldn't identify any redeeming traits to balance his flaws.
Conversely, the FMC lacked the distinctive qualities that often make protagonists memorable. Her character felt somewhat underexplored, preventing me from fully engaging with her journey throughout the book. If the author had invested more effort into unearthing the depths of both central characters, the reading experience could have been far more enjoyable.
The pacing of the story alternated between moments of action and calm, creating a textured rhythm. However, this variation occasionally disrupted the overall flow of the narrative.
Despite these shortcomings, "Master of Crows" sets the stage for a potentially captivating tale. Encountering a protagonist who doesn't fit the conventional standards of beauty, coupled with a hero battling financial hardships and earning every bit through sheer effort, provided a refreshing shift from the usual narrative. And there were some funny moments that really made me laugh at 3 a.m. The side characters are well placed in the story; even the pet had a different contribution to the whole book, which I really liked. More so, the tension between the characters, particularly the slow-burning romance, adds an interesting layer of complexity to the plot.
All in all, it was a decent read. Although there were moments of enjoyment, the major important parts of the book failed to make a significant impression on me. As a result, I'm currently unsure about going any further with this series....more

Pure gems, which have been thoroughly polished before being released to the world. It definitely had uniqueness that got me hooked, reeling' in emotions, mysteries, and some serious soul-searching.
The narrative follows June Farrow on a journey that transcends the boundaries of the ordinary. Through all the ups and downs, June is a character that i was rooting for, empathizing with, and ultimately falling in love with. Her struggles, triumphs, and growth throughout the story are portrayed with such authenticity that it's impossible not to become emotionally invested in her fate.
AUTHOR's world-building skills are on point.. The scenes are so vividly described that I felt like I was right there with the characters, exploring bustling streets and serene landscapes.
The plot? Wild! Mixes up time-travel theme, mystery, and self-discovery like a boss. The pacing is just right, keeping me on my toes with deep thoughts, and twists I never see coming.
The supporting cast of characters? They did wonderful job to make the story more strong. Each character contributes to the richness of the narrative, and I felt a genuine connection to their relationships with June.
To be honest, I haven't read any of the author's other books, so I had no idea what the experience would be like with this one. I am glad that Adrienne Young did not disappoint me at all. A well-told story with a touch of magic is exactly what I was looking for....more

However, the author couldn't maintain that momentum, and the book didn't live up to its full potential. Ultimately, it left me with mixed feelings.
The story of this novel definitely had a unique and refreshing plot. What I enjoyed the most was how the author skillfully blended supernatural elements with a sweet love story. The slightly eerie atmosphere even reminded me of The Addams Family. In that aspect, these elements were the only things that kept me interested and motivated to keep reading.
My main issue with this book is that the author's writing style didn't connect with me. It felt like there were too many unnecessary words for a book of its length. There were lots of extra details that didn't really add to the story. And for the most part, the FMC was talking extensively without actually conveying much substance. Even though the ending was okay, it seemed like the author was trying too hard to make certain parts happen, that made it less enjoyable overall.
ANYWAY, I liked the author's refreshing imaginative thinking. I'll have to see what other books she has written. ...more

While I wouldn't say that "By a Thread" by Lucy Score completely swept me off my feet, I did find it to be a comedic read with a few standout moments.
One of the strongest aspects of the book was the main characters quick-witted humor, which added a fun and lighthearted tone to the story.
Although there were a couple of things that didn't quite click for me, such as the way that the 39-year-old and 44-year-old characters acted somewhat immaturely at times, I don't know—maybe the writer simply made a little mistake with the ages of the characters, but either way, it didn't detract too much from my enjoyment.
Overall, I had a great time reading this funny book....more

Mariana by Susanna Kearsley is an intriguing blend of historical romance and contemporary mystery. Although the book has some redeeming qualities, it Mariana by Susanna Kearsley is an intriguing blend of historical romance and contemporary mystery. Although the book has some redeeming qualities, it fails to fully satisfy in several aspects, leaving a sense of unfulfilled potential.
Firstly, the writing style is engaging and fluid, making it easy to immerse oneself in the story. Kearsley has a talent for vivid descriptions that transport readers to different time periods, creating a sense of nostalgia and enchantment. The way she weaves together the past and the present is commendable, creating a rich tapestry of interconnected lives. The characters, particularly the protagonist's journey of self-discovery and the exploration of her connection to the past is intriguing and keeps me invested. The historical backdrop of the rebellion adds an interesting layer to the narrative, shedding light on a lesser-known period of history.
However, the pacing of the story felt uneven at times. While the past segments were filled with suspense and intrigue, the present-day plotline occasionally dragged. Additionally, the romantic aspect of the story felt underdeveloped. The potential for a captivating love story was present, but it never fully blossomed. The romance felt rushed and lacked depth, leaving me somewhat unsatisfied.
Another aspect that could have been improved is the resolution of certain plot threads. Some storylines felt unresolved or were wrapped up too neatly, leaving me with a sense of dissatisfaction. It would have been gratifying to see certain characters' arcs fully explored and tied up in a more satisfying manner.
In general, I found this book quite enjoyable, particularly because I have a fondness for the reincarnation trope. However, I had higher expectations, hoping it would measure up to the author's previous work, "The Rose Garden," which captivated me a few years ago. Sad to say, the pacing issues, underdeveloped romance, and unsatisfying resolutions prevent this one from reaching its full potential. So after careful consideration, I have decided to give it a moderate rating of 3 stars....more

When I tried to read it a few months ago, a few humiliation scenes in the first chapter gave me a bad impression of the entire book, so I didn't continue further that time. But now, after giving it a second chance with much needed patience, I kind of find the story very entertaining. To be honest, I was shocked by how well written the funny parts were. The two main characters had so many layers of levity and humor, mostly how they unfolded their true selves. I loved the pair. Anyway, this compelling story also features a lot of good things to enjoy.
✅A second chance at love, ✅Trope-enemies-to-lovers ✅An emotionally broken yet feisty heroine ✅Single-mum ✅Caring-sweet-hero ✅Great banter ✅Hot-steamy scenes with one-bed-trope ✅Kind of a forbidden love story (our heroine fell in love with her sister's fiance's younger brother). ✅Very romantic with a small amount of angst and a lot of drama
So yes, it was a fun read. I am very much glad I took another chance with this one. But still, why didn't this book get a 5 star rating from me!?
Because the scornfully mentally abusive scenes were extremely bad, which I also had very difficulty digesting. Truthfully, it literally made my blood boil! In fact, some parts of the book were quite unbelievable too. Especially at the end of the book, the way the bad characters are suddenly portrayed as good without any depth was really confusing. I don't think self-absorbed people suddenly change in this way over night....more

While the story had its merits, I found it difficult to overlook the issues I had with this central character.
To be honest, from the moment I was introduced to the MMC, I found it hard to connect with or root for him. In fact, my dislike for him was strong enough to make me stop reading after a few chapters of the same book last year. So I did not finish it that time. And during this second attempt, I somehow found myself hating his flat, shallow personality even more. While it's not uncommon for books to feature flawed characters, it's essential for me to have some redeeming qualities or character development that can make me empathize or sympathize with them. Unfortunately, this was lacking in this particular character.
I acknowledge that personal preferences play a significant role in one's enjoyment of a book, and my negative reaction to the male main character might not be shared by all readers. It's possible that some readers may find his character and the dynamics within the story more appealing than I did.
ANYWAY, I'm glad I decided to give the book another chance because it allowed me to discover the talent of a writer I had never read before. Lauren Asher's writing style showed promise, and there were moments of engaging storytelling that kept me turning the pages. Besides, there were plenty of entertaining scenes with witty dialogue, some of which even made me laugh out loud a few times.
So, overall, my experience with the book wasn't as bad as I initially thought. I actually had quite a fun time, and now I'm interested in checking out other books by the same author. For readers who can look past character flaws to appreciate the broader narrative, this book might still be worth exploring....more

A few months ago, I picked up this book with great enthusiasm as the summary had piqued my interest. However, I found myself unable to progress beyond the third chapter and eventually decided to not finish the book. At the time, I attributed my lack of motivation to fatigue or a poor mood. However, upon attempting to read the book for the second time, I finally understood why it failed to resonate with me initially.
As I progressed through the book, I began to notice the style of writing becoming increasingly monotonous and wearisome. Furthermore, I found that the author had not invested sufficient effort in fleshing out the personality of the primary female character, leaving her with a weak characterization. The incessant and vexing inner thoughts of this character proved too much to bear, and my patience wore thin. Additionally, the story's foundation failed to meet my expectations, lacking the depth and insight I had anticipated based on the synopsis. This laborious journey proved to be too much for me to bear, and I was ultimately forced to abandon the book.
I was seriously considering giving the book a 1.5-star rating, but there were a few quite meaningful lines that I liked. which is why, in the end, it got a two-star rating....more
